It is clear that although the clinical history, pathologic lesions, and endogenous stage life cycle of I. suis are well understood, the epidemiology of this parasite is not understood or is misunderstood. Consequently, treatment of individual piglets and prophylactic use of coccidiostats in sows have not been consistently rewarding. The best control at present is achieved through use of extensive sanitation, particularly steam cleaning. The incidence of clinical coccidiosis in piglets continues to be a major component (approximately 20 per cent) in the differential etiology of scours in baby pigs.  相似文献

Eighteen (3.9%) ovarian hemangiomas were diagnosed in a survey of reproductive disorders in 460 sows from two to eight years of age during a three-year study. Ovarian hemangiomas only were observed in sows aged over 30 months, and no such neoplasms were found in 42 gilts. The incidence of ovarian hemangioma was highest at five to eight years of age. Of the 18 sows with ovarian hemangioma, one was purebred and 17 were crossbred pigs; of these, twelve had farrowed 12 to 15 litters, four had farrowed six to 11 litters and two had farrowed three litters. All 18 sows with ovarian hemangioma had one or more clinical signs related to reproductive disorders including small litter size, agalactia, fertilization failure, fetal death, silent estrus, anestrus, abortion, and stillbirth. The pathological features of the neoplasms in sows were similar to those described previously in swine and in man. Spontaneous ovarian hemangioma might provide a model for investigation of the etiology and pathogenesis of ovarian hemangioma in man.  相似文献

Two possible causes of violative sulfonamide residues in swine were studied. To determine if sulfamethazine accumulated in the tissues of swine when the drug was administered in feed, the rates of plasma drug disappearance following a single oral dose and continuous feeding of the drug were compared. The rate of plasma drug disappearance was not significantly different (α= 0.05) when the two methods of drug dosing were compared. When feed containing 2 μg sulfamethazine/gm was fed to swine during a 7—day period preceding slaughter, the animal's liver contained violative residues. Violative concentrations of sulfamethazine were detected in the livers, kidneys, and skeletal muscle of swine which consumed feed containing 8 μg sulfamethazine/gm.  相似文献
