External lipoma is a benign subcutaneous and submucosal tumour and usually is of little clinical concern. Occasionally, the lipoma may invade muscles, the infiltrating lipoma. Complete surgical excision is mandatory because of the infiltrative nature and potentially high incidence of recurrence after inadequate surgery. In order to assess the extension of the tumour accurately, computed tomographic examination is indicated.  相似文献

The clinical and pathologic findings related to an infiltrative facial lipoma in a 5-month-old female Holstein Friesian calf are reported. The tumor was congenital, increased in size with time, and deformed the left side of the face and cranial bones. The clinical condition of the calf was good; the only detectable abnormalities were poor weight gain and decreased motility of the left upper lip. Clinical and radiologic data indicated the mass was not removable. Muscle and lymph node invasion by tumor tissue were detected histologically. Infiltrative lipoma is a rare variety of lipoma that has been reported in dogs, cats, horses, and humans. Although its cytologic characteristics are those of a benign tumor, in this patient the invasiveness of the neoplasm was associated with poor prognosis.  相似文献

Hepatic myelolipomas in a cat   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A 16-year-old spayed domestic cat was determined to have hepatic myelolipoma. Treatment consisted of incomplete surgical removal. Despite some tumor tissue remaining, the cat did well for 2 years, then died of an undiagnosed illness. Myelolipomas are tumors of extramedullary hematopoietic tissue, and have been reported uncommonly in cats. On the basis of the clinical course in people, myelolipomas were assumed to be benign in cats. The extended survival after incomplete surgical excision of the tumor in our cat supports this assumption.  相似文献

The surgical approach for excision of caudal thigh intermuscular lipomas (IML) in dogs is described with relevant anatomy and short-term outcomes reported. Medical records were reviewed to identify dogs that underwent IML excision between 2015 to 2019. Signalment, location of the lipoma, pre-operative diagnostic tests, histopathology results, use of a closed-suction drain, and follow-up information including drain and suture removal were recorded. Mean age of patients in this study was 8.7 years. Multiple breeds were affected and there was no predilection for either left or right hind limb. Pre-operative diagnostic tests included fine-needle aspirate, radiography, peripheral ultrasonography, and/or computed tomography scan. In 45% (5/11) of the cases, a closed suction drain was placed. All masses removed were deemed grossly consistent with a lipoma by the attending clinician and 5 were confirmed by histopathology. No complications were noted in any case. Removal of caudal thigh IML requires careful identification of and dissection around the sciatic nerve, which is easily achieved with appropriate knowledge of the relevant anatomy and surgical approach.  相似文献

Malignant neuroendocrine carcinoma of the skin (Merkel cell tumor) was diagnosed in an 18-year-old spayed female Maine Coon Cat. The diagnosis was made on the basis of morphologic and electron microscopic findings. The cat was euthanatized 321 days after surgical excision of the tumor. The tumor's malignancy contrasted with the benign nature of Merkel cell tumors reported in dogs and was consistent with the malignancy of Merkel cell tumors reported in humans.  相似文献

The prevalence and treatment of 255 eyelid tumors in 200 dogs was related to breed, age, sex, location, and tumor type. Treatment methods included cryosurgery and surgical excision. The mean age of all dogs with eyelid tumors was 9.6 years (+/- 0.2 SEM). Beagles, Siberian Huskies, and English Setters had a higher risk of tumor development, whereas the mixed-breed dogs had a lower risk. Sebaceous tarsal gland adenomas, benign melanomas, and papillomas were observed most often (88%). Malignant tumors (melanoma, adenocarcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, mast cell tumor, squamous cell carcinoma, hemangiosarcoma, and myoblastoma) comprised 8.2% of the tumors. Tumor recurrence rates between dogs treated with cryosurgery and those treated surgically were not significantly different (15.1% and 10.5%, respectively). The mean recurrence time after cryosurgery was 7.4 months (+/- 1.9 SEM), whereas it was 28.3 months (+/- 7.2 SEM) after surgical excision. Using either treatment, the long-term side effects were similar. The overall cosmetic appearance was observed to be better with cryosurgery.  相似文献

This report describes the identification and surgical removal of a lipoma from the extensor tendon sheaths of a horse. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report of a lipoma of the extensor tendon sheaths of a horse. Ultrasonographic evaluation was crucial to patient management, providing information regarding the soft tissue mass characteristics, tumor margins and synovial involvement prior to surgical exploration. Surgical removal was performed and was curative.  相似文献

The recommended treatment for soft tissue sarcomas (STS) and mast cell tumors (MCT) is complete surgical removal, provided that the tumor is amenable to surgical excision. The objective of this study was to evaluate possible risk factors for incomplete surgical excision of skin and subcutaneous STS and MCT in 100 dogs treated with wide excision with curative intent. Decreased body weight was a risk factor (P = 0.03, odd's ratio = 0.96) as well as increased tumor size (1.4% increase in risk of incomplete excision per cm(2); P = 0.02). Gender, age, breed, location, grade, tumor type, re-excision, and level of surgeon's training (P = 0.0711) were not significant. Veterinary surgery residents were at increased risk of incompleteness of excision compared with ACVS surgeons and ACVS surgeons with additional training in surgical oncology.  相似文献

Cutaneous hemangiosarcoma (HSA) has been infrequently reported in dogs and cats. Medical records of 18 cats diagnosed with cutaneous HSA were reviewed. Age at the time of diagnosis, breed, sex, tumor location, tumor size, treatment type, survival time, disease-free interval, and cause of death were evaluated. Aggressive surgical excision of the tumor was attempted in 10 cats. A complete surgical excision was achieved in five of the 10 cats. Median survival times were statistically longer in cats that underwent surgery versus cats that did not. Cats with cutaneous HSA treated with aggressive surgical excision of their tumors may have a good long-term prognosis.  相似文献

Objective  To describe feline periocular cutaneous mast cell tumor (CMCT) clinical features, rates of local tumor recurrence and metastases, and cat survival time following surgical excision.
Animals studied  Thirty-three cats with periocular CMCTs.
Procedures  Medical records of cats diagnosed with periocular CMCTs were reviewed; cats were included if CMCTs were surgically excised and the diagnosis confirmed by histopathology. The appearance, size, location and histopathology findings of CMCTs were recorded. Rates of local recurrence, metastasis, and survival time following surgical excision were collected when available.
Results  All periocular CMCTs were restricted to the eyelids. In addition to surgical excision, three cats were treated with adjunctive therapy (strontium-90 irradiation or cryotherapy) intraoperatively. Local tumor control was achieved in 22/23 cats with a minimum follow-up of 30 days (median follow-up time of 711 days); one cat developed disseminated CMCTs but no local recurrence. Cats with periocular CMCTs had a median survival time of 945 days. Metastatic disease involving peripheral lymph nodes or abdominal viscera was not detected in any cat at any time during the study. All periocular CMCTs were classified as low-grade based on histopathology, and complete excision was achieved in approximately 50% of cases.
Conclusions  Surgical excision of periocular CMCTs in cats is an effective treatment option with rare local recurrence and metastases, even following incomplete surgical excision.  相似文献

Twenty two dogs with an infiltrative lipoma had computed tomographic (CT) images acquired to evaluate the extent of local disease. Ten dogs had undergone at least one cytoreductive surgical procedure (range = 1-3; median = 2) prior to imaging. Twenty dogs had measurable disease on CT images; 2 dogs had diffuse disease at a previous surgical site that could not be measured. Tumor volume (n = 20) ranged from 20 to 5,632 cm3 (median = 345 cm3; mean = 996 cm3). None of the dogs had evidence of bone involvement on the CT images; 2 of the 22 dogs had tumors that did not come into direct contact with osseous structures. All dogs with measurable disease had evidence of a fat opacity mass with variable degrees of muscle infiltration. Eleven of 22 dogs were given intravenous contrast medium prior to image acquisition and there was not evidence of enhancement of the infiltrative lipoma in any dog. Based on CT images, tumors were classified as well-defined in 9 dogs, moderately well-defined in 4, not well-defined in 3 and a mix of well-defined and not well-defined in 6 dogs. Tumors tended to be less well-defined in regions where the infiltrative lipoma interdigitated with normal body fat. It appears CT imaging allows adequate discrimination of tumor with the caveat that differentiation of normal fat from infiltrative lipoma can be problematic.  相似文献

An aged mongrel dog was admitted for hemimandibulectomy as treatment for a mandibular mass that had been diagnosed as osteosarcoma. The fibro-osseous mass that surrounded the first molar tooth and replaced alveolar and cortical bone was reclassified as ossifying fibroma on the basis of anatomic location and histologic features. The tumor was composed of isomorphic fusiform cells with few mitotic figures. Tumoral stroma contained trabeculae of woven bone that were bordered by a single layer of osteoblasts. Excision was deemed complete with no evidence of extension or metastasis by computed tomography of the skull or thoracic and abdominal radiography. The dog was reportedly healthy 6 months after initial presentation. Though far less common than osteosarcoma as a primary canine bone tumor, ossifying fibroma should be included in the differential diagnosis for fibro-osseous proliferations, especially those of the jaw. Although benign, en bloc excision may be necessary for surgical cure.  相似文献

Medical records for 92 cats with a vaccine associated sarcoma receiving preoperative irradiation, with or without chemotherapy, between December 1985 and September 1998 were reviewed. The purposes were to quantify response to treatment and to attempt identification of factors associated with favorable response. Variables evaluated for a relationship to outcome included signalment, tumor location, presence of gross vs. microscopic tumor, radiation field size, irradiation technique, type of surgical procedure, completeness of excision, and chemotherapy (none, carboplatin alone, and others). Time to first event was calculated for the first day of treatment until local tumor recurrence or metastasis, or the date of euthanasia or death. Median time to first event for all 92 cats was 584 days. Only completeness of surgical excision was related to the time to first event. Median time to first event in cats having complete surgical excision was 986 days compared to 292 days for cats with incomplete excision (P = 0.004). Cats requiring bone removal to effect tumor removal had earlier failure than cats having other types of surgery. There was not a significant relationship between administration of chemotherapy or chemotherapy type and time to first event although outcome in cats receiving carboplatin was better than all other treatment groups. Carboplatin addition to preoperative irradiation appears worthy of further study. Preoperative irradiation is an effective treatment for cats with vaccine associated sarcoma, especially if complete excision can be accomplished following irradiation.  相似文献

Two cases of myxoma and one case of melanocytoma of enormous size in three aged cows are described. The conditions had a clinically benign course, and there was no physical evidence of metastasis in the regional lymph nodes. All cases were cured by surgical excision.  相似文献

A retrospective study was performed on 31 dogs with completely excised, grade II, cutaneous mast cell tumors in order to determine recurrence rates and sites. Distant tumor recurrence developed in 22% of dogs, and local tumor recurrence developed in 11% of dogs; however, the vast majority of these animals were incompletely staged initially. Complete surgical excision of grade II mast cell tumors was associated with effective local control in 89% of these dogs. Therefore, adjuvant radiation therapy might not be indicated in the majority of dogs with complete surgical excision.  相似文献

Wide Local Excision of Acanthomatous Epulides in the Dog   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Twenty-five dogs bearing acanthomatous epulides of the oral cavity underwent tumor resection by wide local excision. The surgical procedures included rostral mandibulectomy, removal of the mandibular body, premaxillectomy, and partial maxillectomy. Postoperative complications were rare, and local recurrence was not encountered in any dogs over periods of 1 to 6 1/2 years (median, 22 months). The authors conclude from the high incidence of local recurrence after simple excision through the tumor margins and the potential for malignant transformation after irradiation that wide surgical resection is the technique of choice for the management of acanthomatous epulis.  相似文献

The prognosis for canine cutaneous mast cell tumor (CCMT) is thought to be correlated with histopathological grading. However, the wide variety of histopathologic types of grade II is one of the most troublesome and difficult points for prognosis. The objective of this study is to determine the prognostic value of surgical margin, ki-67 and cyclin D1 protein expression in grade II tumor. Surgically resected specimens of solitary grade II CCMT from 48 dogs with follow-up periods over 360 days (median was 1080 days) were used in this study. The expression of cyclin D1 and ki-67 proteins was determined by morphometrically using slides stained immunocytochemically, and the correlations among the results, survival rate, and recurrence and/or metastasis rate of each dog were analyzed statistically. The recurrence and/or metastasis and mortality rate in the incomplete surgical excision group within 30 months postoperatively were higher than that of the complete surgical excision group. In the incomplete surgical excision group, dogs with low positive staining of ki-67 had a significantly better survival, but the recurrence and metastasis rate and ki-67 positivity failed to show a significant correlation. Only a small number of cases showed cyclin D1-positive tumor cells, but most of them had a poor outcome with a high recurrence rate. In grade II CCMT, incomplete excision induced a relatively high metastasis rate and poor prognosis. Ki-67 positivity is a marker for the estimation of overall survival in incomplete surgical excision cases. Cyclin D1 positivity was low and may not have a prognostic role.  相似文献

Ten animals (8 dogs and 2 cats) with distal rectal lesions were treated by surgically resecting the affected segment of the rectum by the rectal pull-through technique. There were four malignant tumors, three benign tumors, two inflammatory lesions, and one malignant tumor that extended histologically to the margins of a previous surgical excision. Postoperative complications were tenesmus (7 animals), fecal incontinence (4 animals), rectal bleeding (4 animals), and abscess formation (1 animal). Dehiscence and stricture were not observed. The four animals with malignant tumors survived less than 12 months after surgery. One of the four animals still living has persistent fecal incontinence. The rectal pull-through technique is described and illustrated.  相似文献

A 7-year-old Selle français gelding was presented for a recurrent conjunctival tumour on the left eye. A previous histologic analysis revealed a conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma. As it was the third recurrence after surgical excision in a 1½-year period, we decided to perform interstitial radiotherapy combined with the surgical excision. Two Iridium-192 pins were implanted in the subcutaneous fascia of the lower eyelid over the tumor site and were removed 3 days later. No postoperative adverse reactions were observed. Twelve months postoperatively, there were no signs of local recurrence. Surgical excision combined with Iridium-192 therapy appeared to be an effective treatment in this case.  相似文献

Basal cell tumors are rare benign tumors in horses. Over a 15-year period, 6 horses were diagnosed with basal cell tumors. The tumors were well-circumscribed. freely moveable, firm, raised papules, nodules, or masses that ranged from 0.6 to 5 cm in diameter. Five of the 6 tumors were ulcerated. Based on gross appearance, the tumors were diagnosed as sarcoids, and 1 was diagnosed as a melanoma. The range of age of affected horses was 6-26 years. The tumors were identified clinically 1 week to 3 years before excision. In 4 horses for which information was available, complete surgical excision was curative with no recurrence 4 months to 2 years after removal.  相似文献
