The effects of long-term hyperglycaemia (5 months), through feeding high levels of dietary carbohydrates, on the non-specific immunity parameters of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), was assessed. Fish were fed one of three diets composed of a basal diet containing ≈ 14% digestible carbohydrate which was progressively diluted with gelatinized potato starch in the following ratios of basal diet to supplemental carbohydrate (gelatinized potato starch): 65:00, 65:20, 65:35. The three diets were pair-fed based on the feed intake of the fish fed the diet containing the highest level of starch (65:35) and representing 100% intake. The other diets were then fed at different levels in a manner that allowed all the groups of fish in the same block to receive the same amount of the basal diet [e.g. the basal diet (undiluted, 65:00) was fed at 65% of the dietary intake of the 65:35 diet]. Blood glucose concentrations and relative liver-to-body size increased with increased dietary carbohydrate intake. Feeding supplemental carbohydrates resulted in a small increase in weight gain of the fish at both supplemental levels. Pronephros tissue lysozyme activity and pronephros macrophage superoxide production were not affected by the dietary treatments. The results suggest the presence of advanced glycosylation end-products in muscle tissue collagen, but were not significantly different between treatments. No substantial effect of long-term feeding of a high carbohydrate diet on the non-specific immunity of rainbow trout was observed. However, the results suggest that dietary carbohydrates may have a slight stimulatory effect on phagocytosis at low–moderate levels.  相似文献

The influence of dietary fat level and whole‐body adiposity on voluntary energy intake of juvenile rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum) was examined using self‐feeders. Groups of lean fish [crude fat (CF) = 7%] and fat fish (CF = 11%), pretreated with a commercial diet with or without supplemental pollock oil, were self‐fed one of three fat level diets (CF = 8%, 13.5% and 19%) for 48 days at 17 °C. Final body weight (BW) and total digestible energy (DE) intake (kJ per fish) were positively affected by the initial BW. Relative to the initial BW, however, fat fish consumed less DE than lean fish. Although the effect of dietary fat level was not significant, percentage weight gain and daily DE intake per BW (kJ kg?1 BW day?1) of fat fish were significantly lower than those of lean fish (ancova with initial BW as a covariate, P < 0.05). Energy digestibility, feed efficiency and protein retention were improved with the dietary fat level; however, there was no difference resulting from body fat level. The whole‐body fat levels at the end of the experiment increased with the dietary fat level. Between groups self‐fed the same diet, fat levels of the initially fat fish were still higher than those of the lean fish. The results of the present medium‐term study suggest that rainbow trout adjust DE intake from diets with fat levels ranging from 8% to 19%. Although body fat level affects neither energy digestibility nor protein utilization, a high body fat level may reduce DE intake and consequently depress growth.  相似文献

Groups of rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) from five different families and five inbred groups were fed four diets similar in protein and energy content but differing in the percentage of metabolizable energy present as carbohydrate. The percentage of metabolizable energy from carbohydrate was 15, 26, 37 and 49%, respectively.Significant differences between fish families were found for growth, condition factor, chemical composition of the fish, relative liver wight, liver colour, digestibility of energy and N-free extracts, dressing percentage amount of intestinal fat and flesh colour.Interaction between diet and family was significant for relative liver weight and liver colour. There was no interaction between diet and family for growth, indicating that the prospects for selectively breeding a strain of rainbow trout specifically better able to utilize carbohydrate are not promising.Growth rate and condition factor increased with decreasing carbohydrate level in diet. The fish fed high levels of carbohydrate had less dry matter, fat and ash in the body, and higher percentage carbohydrate in the liver. They also had higher relative liver weights and more discoloured livers. The fish fed high levels of carbohydrate had significantly better apparent digestibility of energy and protein. There were no significant differences in mortality rate between the groups, and veterinary examination did not reveal any pathological differences in the fish fed different feeding regimes.  相似文献

Rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) with an initial average weight of 1.8 g were fed eight experimental diets with 26 and 35% protein and varying amounts of lipid for 112 days. All experimental diets contained 10% fish meal (the only source of animal protein), as compared to a control diet with 35% fish meal. The energy content of the diet was the most important factor in determining growth rate. The percentage of dietary lipid was the dominant factor in determining the body composition of rainbow trout. Increased amounts of dietary lipid resulted in fish with increased amounts of whole-body fat and reduced amounts of whole-body protein and moisture. Body composition was more closely a function of nutritional history than of fish size. Protein retention and energy retention were negatively associated with the percentage of digestible protein in the diet. Mortality rates did not differ significantly among the groups tested; the general health of all fish examined was good.  相似文献

SUMMARY: Macronutrient self-selection patterns in rainbow trout and common carp, which were maintained in groups, were examined when both water temperature and duration of light phase gradually decreased. Three semipurified macronutrient diets composed mainly of protein (casein and gelatin; crude protein (CP) = 65%), fat (pollock oil and soybean oil; crude fat (CF) = 38%), or digestible carbohydrate (dextrin and gelatinized starch; crude starch (CS) = 57%) were offered to five groups of trout (20 fish/group, 51 g/fish) and carp (15 fish/group, 36 g/fish) using three self-feeders. A standard diet (ST) containing the three macronutrients at an appropriate ratio (CP = 47%, CF = 14%, CS = 25%) was also offered to three groups each by a single self-feeder. After an initial 3 weeks of experiencing a long photoperiod (14 h light : 10 h dark cycle) and high water temperature (trout, 17°C; carp, 25°C), the light phase and temperature were gradually decreased in the following 3 weeks to 10 h light : 14 h dark, and 8°C for trout and 13°C for carp, and feeding was continued for a further 3 weeks under low temperature and short photoperiod conditions. Growth and protein utilization parameters between the ST diet self-fed groups and macronutrient diet self-selection groups were not different ( P > 0.05) for both trout and carp. Trout preferred the high-protein diet (HP) to the high-fat and the high-carbohydrate diets ( P < 0.05) regardless of the changes in water temperature and photoperiod. Carp also preferred the HP diet ( P < 0.01) under the high temperature and long photoperiod conditions; however, this preference gradually disappeared with lower temperatures and shorter photoperiods. These results suggest that the most appropriate macronutrient ratios in carp diets change with environmental conditions.  相似文献

Triplicate groups of rainbow trout with initial weight 361 g were fed either a fish meal based control diet or diets containing 9, 18 or 27% bacterial protein meal (BPM) or 9% of an autolysate (AU) of the BPM. No significant treatment effects were found on specific growth rates (SGR), feed intake, feed efficiency ratio (FER), or retention of nitrogen, amino acids or energy. The apparent digestibility coefficients (ADC) of nitrogen, energy and most indispensable amino acids decreased when BPM was included in the diet. The ADC of lipid, sum of amino acids, arginine, lysine, threonine and most of the dispensable amino acids were reduced at 27% BPM inclusion compared to the control, 9% and 18% BPM diets. None of the ADC estimated was different in the 9% AU diet compared to the 9% BPM diet. The loss of nitrogen and energy in faeces per kg gain increased as the dietary BPM or AU levels increased, and the energy used for activity and maintenance was higher in fish fed the 27% BPM diet than in fish fed the other diets (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in the urea concentrations in plasma, liver and muscle, whereas the uric acid level in plasma was elevated in trout fed the 27% BPM diet. Histological evaluation of tissue from the stomach, pyloric caeca, mid-intestine and distal intestine did not reveal any diet-related morphological changes. In conclusion, no significant differences in growth and feed efficiency were found in the rainbow trout fed diets containing up to 27% BPM, and the AU did not increase fish performance compared to the BPM. Based on the data from this study, at levels up to 27% dietary inclusion, BPM is a good replacement for fish meal in diets for rainbow trout.  相似文献

High levels of protein in fish feeds result in higher costs and nitrogen waste. Therefore, studies focused on protein substitution by alternative energy sources are necessary. Here we examine whether the protein:carbohydrate ratio in extruded diets affects protein-turnover parameters and the main tissue components in brown trout. Juvenile fish were adapted to two extruded diets: one higher in protein and lower in carbohydrate, C: 45/28 and the other higher in carbohydrate and lower in protein, HC: 37/40. Gross energy was 19 MJ kg−1 DM in both diets. Protein and lipid digestibility were high and similar in both groups (≈90%), whereas total and carbohydrate digestibility and digestible energy were lower in the HC-fed group than in the C-fed group. Consequently, when fish were adapted to the diets, plasma levels of glucose and insulin differed between diets. HC-group presented higher plasma glucose levels and lower plasma insulin levels than C-group. Protein synthesis rates in white muscle, liver and whole body did not differ significantly between diets. In contrast, protein accretion rate of white muscle and whole body were significantly lower in the HC group, indicating an increase of protein degradation in these tissues and a decrease of synthesis retention efficiency. In spite of the daily protein intake of HC group was lower than C-group, the anabolic stimulation efficiency was increased by 34% in HC group. Protein and lipid contents in white muscle and liver were stable throughout the experiment. No hepatomegalia or increased fat deposition was observed in fish fed HC. Differences in specific growth rates (C: 0.88%; HC: 0.77%) were associated more with the lower protein consumption rate and the lower level of digestible energy in fish fed HC than with the higher dietary carbohydrate content of the diet.  相似文献

The utilization of dietary protein in rainbow trout was investigated by determining the nitrogen balance. The fish were fed on three experimental diets containing different ratios of protein and carbohydrate (74% protein/9% carbohydrate; 58%/26%; 32%/53%). Nitrogen retention was determined by measuring the nitrogen intake and nitrogen losses of the fish. In this paper we report upon nitrogen excretion, nitrogen retention, gross protein efficiency and also feed conversion. Nitrogen excretion increased with increasing protein and decreasing carbohydrate content in the diet. Similarly, nitrogen retention increased when the fish were fed a diet richer in protein. Gross protein efficiency was highest (and nearly the same) with the two diets containing higher levels of protein, while the diet low in protein but rich in carbohydrate tended to cause poorer protein efficiency. Feed conversion was also highest with the two diets with higher protein levels but lower with the diet poorest in protein. The results obtained from the study of different fish groups each fed one diet were nearly identical to results of one fish group fed different diets.  相似文献

Macronutrient selection and responses to dietary protein dilution were investigated in 95-g sharpsnout seabream, an omnivorous fish species of interest for Mediterranean aquaculture. Five groups of 18 sharpsnout seabream were distributed among circular 450-l tanks and allowed to self-feed from 3 feeders each of which distributed feeds composed of different pairs of macronutrients: PC (75% protein, 25% carbohydrate), PF (75% protein, 25% fat) or FC (50% fat, 50% digestible carbohydrate). Regardless of self-feeders position, the fish composed a diet containing 63% protein, 19% fat and 18% carbohydrate. When the protein-containing diets (PC and PF) were diluted 50% with cellulose, the fish increased their food intake to compensate for the energy dilution (170 kJ/kg BW/day vs. 168 kJ/kg BW/day after dilution), and dietary composition (63% protein, 16% fat and 21% carbohydrate) did not change significantly. These results demonstrate that sharpsnout seabream can select from incomplete diets to compose a balanced diet, and the fish are also able to compensate for a dietary dilution to regulate both energy intake and the relative proportions of macronutrients.  相似文献

Isonitrogenous rations containing various levels of digestible carbohydrate were fed to groups of trout for 8 weeks. Two levels (15 or 30%) and two sources (glucose or starch) of carbohydrates were used. A given amount of a 30% glucose diet was distributed in either 2, 4 or 6 meals/day, to determine the effect of meal frequency.Growth, feed efficiency and body composition of the different groups were compared. Glycaemia levels, as influenced by the different dietary treatments, were measured immediately and 6 h after a given meal. The 30% glucose diet promoted the best weight gain, feed conversion and protein efficiency. Groups fed the 15% glucose diet gave values between those of the 30% glucose and the 30% starch-fed groups. The additional energy retained in groups fed the highest glucose level (30%) did not modify carcass composition but increased fat deposits in the viscera and glycogen in the liver. Plasma glucose levels indicated that the regulation of glycaemia is effective within a 24-h period, even after a daily intake of 550 mg glucose/100 g body weight. Increasing the number of meals had no discernible effect, the efficiency of the 30% glucose diet being the same in the various groups. It is concluded that, under certain experimental conditions, trout can tolerate up to 30% glucose in the diet and can use it for energy needs.  相似文献

Groups of rainbow trout fingerlings from ten different families were sampled after 12 and 24 weeks feeding on each of three diets which were similar in protein and energy content but had different percentages of metabolizable energy present as carbohydrate: 17, 25 and 38%. Fish fed different diets had the same dressed carcass weights, expressed as percentage of body weight, but fish fed higher carbohydrate diets had heavier livers and a higher percentage of discoloured livers. Chemical analyses of fish bodies showed lower fat and energy but higher protein and ash content for those fed higher carbohydrate diets. Livers contained more fat and carbohydrate but the same dry matter, and faeces showed less dry matter, more protein and the same energy content in fish with higher dietary carbohydrate. Utilization of dietary energy and protein was poorer in fish fed high levels of carbohydrate, but health of all fish appeared good. Little variation between different fish families, and no interaction between fish family and diet was found for any of the above parameters, indicating that prospects for change through selective breeding are poor.  相似文献

This study examined the effect of reduced water oxygen levels on the utilization efficiencies of energy and protein from a diet fed to rainbow trout. An experimental diet was fed at one of the four ration levels with an additional starved treatment also included in each oxygenation regime. Oxygen levels in each oxygenation regime varied with ration level, but averaged 9.3 ± 0.36 mg L−1 for the normal regime and 5.7 ± 1.4 mg L−1 for the hypoxia regime. Significant differences were observed in the apparent satietal feed intake levels in each oxygenation regime, but not at any of the pair-fed restricted levels. No significant effects of oxygenation regime were observed on the utilization of either energy or protein by the fish. Efficiency of protein use varied depending on the protein intake level, but was not significantly affected by oxygenation regime. This study demonstrates that a reduction in the oxygen levels of the water does not affect the utilization efficiency of dietary digestible protein and energy in rainbow trout, but does result in a downregulation of feed intake when the fish is fed to apparent satietal levels.  相似文献

The present study evaluated the nutritional value of sesame oil cake (SOC) in rainbow trout fry (initial body weight of 1.42 g) in a growth trial performed for 45 feeding days at 15 ± 1 °C. A series of five isonitrogenous (380 g digestible protein kg?1 dry matter (DM)) and isoenergetic (18.1 MJ digestible energy kg?1 DM) diets were formulated in which the digestible SOC protein progressively replaced 0%, 13%, 26%, 39% and 52% of the digestible protein of a high quality fish meal (D0‐D52). Growth rate of fry significantly improved in fish fed SOC diets compared to the fishmeal control diet (D0) whatever the SOC inclusion level. This positive effect on growth was mainly related to a marked improvement of voluntary feed intake. The decrease of feed efficiency observed with increasing SOC was entirely explained by the reduction of DM and energy digestibilities with SOC incorporation. Nitrogen retention efficiency (nitrogen gain/nitrogen intake) was high (40–41%) and significantly reduced only in fish fed D52 (37%). Our results suggest that SOC can be a suitable protein source for a carnivorous fish and replace at least half of the fishmeal protein (without amino acid supplementation) without growth reduction in rainbow trout fry.  相似文献

The digestibility of three experimental diets of casein—gelatin basis with varying levels of carbohydrate and protein content was studied after feeding to rainbow trout. An attempt was made to estimate true protein digestibility by an indirect method, which is based on the relationship between nitrogen intake and fecal nitrogen excretion. Both apparent and true protein digestibility were high and exceeded 97% in all diets. In all cases true digestibility was slightly increased compared with apparent protein digestibility. Digestibility of the whole diet decreased significantly with increasing carbohydrate and decreasing protein level in the diet.  相似文献

A study was conducted to determine growth, body composition and heat increment (HI) of rainbow trout reared on isonitrogenous high digestible carbohydrate (HC) and high fat (HL) diets at 15°C. Trout reared on the HC diet had a significantly lower final body weight and carcass lipid content and a significantly higher feed:gain ratio and carcass protein content than trout reared on the HL diet after 12 weeks on the test diets. The lower carcass lipid composition indicates that trout do not readily convert dietary carbohydrates into fat. HI of trout reared on the HC diet was significantly higher than that of fish reared on the HL diet. Considering the poor utilization of dietary carbohydrates as an energy source and the apparently low conversion of dietary glucose into fat, the cause of the higher HI associated with the HC diet is not completely understood. However, it is possible the elimination of excess dietary glucose is an energy dependent process resulting in an increased heat production which would partly account for the increased HI. Furthermore, if the HC diet is a low net energy diet, then the metabolism and utilization of dietary and tissue proteins (amino acids) for energy by the trout may also be partly responsible for the increased HI of the trout reared on the HC diet.

This study examined the utilization efficiencies of three diets when fed to rainbow trout in a 28‐day growth study. Each of the diets was fed at one of three ration levels, and an additional starved treatment was also included. The diets differed by an increasing concentration of lupin (Lupinus angustifolius cv. Myallie) kernel meal (MKM) inclusion. Two lupin kernel meal inclusion levels of 15% (MKM15%) and 30% (MKM30%) were studied. The diets were formulated to equivalent digestible protein and energy specifications based upon the predetermined digestibility values for each of the ingredients used. There were no significant differences in digestible protein level among the diets. However, a significantly higher level of digestible energy of both MKM diets was measured, as well as a significantly higher level of digestible phosphorus in the MKM30% diet. No significant differences between the diets were observed with respect the utilization of dietary digestible energy. Over the full data range, the energy utilization efficiency was described by the linear equation of; y = 0.747x ? 26.174, R2 = 0.985. Efficiency of protein utilization over lower digestible protein intake levels was also linear (y = 0.599x ? 0.142, R2 = 0.905), but over the full range was better described by a nonlinear function. The comparison of the three diets in this study shows that the dietary inclusion of lupin kernel had no significant effect on the gain of either protein or lipid energy relative to protein or lipid energy intake, respectively. Protein energy use efficiency constants varied depending on the feed intake level, but were not significantly affected by diet type. The efficiency of use of lipid energy for lipid energy retention was also not affected by diet type. The findings of this study demonstrate that the inclusion of lupin kernel meal, at up to 30% of the diet, does not affect the ability of rainbow trout to utilize the dietary digestible protein and energy of diet in which it is included.  相似文献

A feeding trial was conducted with juvenile rainbow trout (15–16 g initial weight) to assess the effects of including single‐cell protein (SCP) produced from Methylobacterium extorquens in trout feeds. Three isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were produced: a control diet and two experimental diets containing 5% or 10% bacterial protein meal replacing soybean meal. Triplicate tanks, each containing 35 fish, were fed each diet to apparent satiation in a constant‐temperature (15°C), flow‐through tank system for 12 weeks. No statistically significant differences in final fish weight or other fish growth parameters were observed. Similarly, feed efficiency parameters showed no significant differences among groups. Nutrient retention indices (protein, fat, energy) were relatively high and similar among fish in each dietary treatment group, as were whole body proximate compositions. Fish survival was high, with a small but statistically significant increase for the 10% SCP diet. Overall, results demonstrate that SCP from M. extorquens is a safe and effective alternative protein for rainbow trout diets at the low inclusion levels tested. Slightly lower weight gain in fish fed the 10% SCP diet was largely due to lower feed intake, suggesting that adding palatability‐enhancing ingredients to feeds may allow higher levels of M. extorquens SCP to be used without compromising fish growth.  相似文献

Abstract. In temperate regions of North America, the culture of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), in ponds is constrained to the period mid-November to early April by water temperature. Feeding practice may influence production time. The effects of three feeding practices on growth and body composition of rainbow trout raised in ponds during a 142-day winter growth period were investigated. Feeding practices were (1) hand-feeding to satiation, (2) feeding according to a fish size/water temperature chart, and (3) feeding by demand feeder.
Fish fed to satiation consumed 66% more diet than fish fed according to a feeding chart and 163% more than fish fed by demand feeders. Fish fed to satiation had significantly higher (P < 0·05) weight gain, harvest weight, specific growth rate, and protein gain with no significant increase (P > 0·05) in percentage body fat or feed conversion ratio (FCR) compared to the other two treatments. Survival percentage did not differ significantly (P > 0·05) between treatments. These data indicate that by using satiation feeding, marketable size rainbow trout can be produced in temperate region ponds without increases in percentage body fat or FCR.  相似文献

This study compared the effect of increasing dietary inclusion of soybean, narrow‐leaf lupin or yellow lupin kernel meals when fed to rainbow trout. Each meal was formulated into a test diet to create a series of inclusion levels of 0, 100, 200, 300 and 400 g kg?1. Each diet was formulated to the same digestible protein and energy specifications. The diets were fed to apparent satiety to 30.0 ± 0.71 g rainbow trout for 28 days. After this period, fish in the reference (0 g kg?1) treatment attained a weight of 93.2 g. Growth of the fish among the treatments was observed to be improved by the addition of either variety of lupin meal. In contrast, growth of fish fed the soybean meal was equivalent to that of the 0 g kg?1 fish meal reference, but was poorer at the 400 g kg?1 inclusion level. Feed intake with the lupin meals was marginally improved with lupin inclusion, but at the higher soybean meal inclusions, feed intake was reduced relative to the fish meal reference diet. The inclusion of the different grains also had significant effects on the physical properties of the pellets.  相似文献
