Bacopa monnieri is an outstanding nervine tonic used for raising the mental performance. It helps in concentration, comprehension, recall and alertness, Brahmi is particularly beneficial as it aids in categorizing information in brain and its subsequent expression. Bacopa is also called as a natural antioxidant which may give details its neuroprotective role seen in the memory centers of the brain. Epilepsy is neuronal disorder characterized by learning, cognitive and memory impairments. The present review summarizes information concerning botany, chemistry and beneficial effect of Bacopa monnieri on epilepsy associated behavioral deficits.  相似文献

The aim of the present study is to investigate the protective effect of bilberry extract on liver damage in restraint stressed mice. A remarkable increase in alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels was observed in stressed mice. Treatment with bilberry extract restored ALT and ROS to normal levels, and enhanced mitochondrial complex II activity that was lowered in restraint stressed mice. The mitochondrial electron transfer chain (ETC)-related gene expression was measured by RT-PCR, and a significant up-regulation of complex II mRNA was observed for SDHA, B, C and D mRNA in bilberry extract-treated group compared with that in stressed group. Bilberry extract administration also profoundly elevated the Na+-K+-ATPase activity and mitochondria membrane potential (?Ψm), which was reduced in the stressed group. Bilberry extract exhibited protective effect by scavenging free radicals and attenuating mitochondrial dysfunction in the liver of restraint stressed mice. It may be used as a promising therapeutic agent in preventing and delaying the life-related disease.  相似文献

The 50% ethanol extract of the whole plant of Solanum nigrum was tested in vitro for its cytoprotection against gentamicin-induced toxicity on Vero cells. Cytotoxicity was significantly inhibited as assessed by the Trypan blue exclusion assay and mitochondrial dehydrogenase activity (MTT) assay. The test extract also exhibited significant hydroxyl radical scavenging potential, thus suggesting its probable mechanism of cytoprotection.  相似文献

卫矛尺蠖和菜粉蝶幼虫取食涂有芫花乙醇粗提物的叶子后,1~2d内即可使消化酶及谷胱甘肽酶活力指数显著上升,此后回落到对照或显著低于对照水平.电镜观察表明,24h后,中肠细胞粗糙内质网上的蛋白体数量增加,着色加深,显示这些部位的功能更趋活跃;48h后,细胞内线粒体内嵴开始模糊,体积肿大;72h后,部分线粒体成为空壳.以上事实为中毒昆虫的生理变化提供了亚细胞水平的依据.  相似文献

菜粉蝶(Pieris rapae)幼虫取食芫花粗提物24h后,中肠淀粉酶、蛋白酶、酯酶、转化酶的活力增强,其中肠组织中淀粉酶及肠腔中蛋白酶活力增强的程度达显著水平;粗提物使海藻糖酶活力下降,差异达显著水平。石蜡切片表明,芫花引起细胞核向肠腔内侧移动,围食膜逐渐消失,肠壁细胞中的空泡显著增多、增大,肠组织结构变得没有层次性。电镜观察表明,芫花粗提物处理24h后,引起细胞内粗糙内质网上的核糖体数量明显增多,线粒体内嵴开始模糊、肿胀。因而认为,粗提物刺激组织超量分泌消化酶,加之抑食作用使取食量减少,导致体重减轻,体能逐渐衰竭而死亡。  相似文献

Extracts from Pycnanthus angolensis stem bark, and fruits and seeds of Sphenocentrum jollyanum, when tested in vitro, showed potent anthelmintic activity on the earthworm, Eudrilus eugeniae. Methanolic extract of P. angolensis was more active than its chloroform extract (P<0.001), while fruit ethanolic extract of S. jollyanum was also more potent than the seed extract. When compared with other worms, S. jollyanum fruit extract showed the greatest activity on wireworms when tested at 80 mg/ml.  相似文献

The cecal gas (GP) and methane (CH4) production and cecal fermentation kinetics when corn grain (CG) was replaced with prickly cactus (PC) in a horse’s diet at different levels of Salix babylonica (SB) extract was investigated. Three total mixed rations where CG was replaced with PC at three levels (/kg): 0 g (Control), 75 g (PC75) or 150 g (PC150) were prepared and SB extract added at four levels: 0, 0.6, 1.2 and 1.8 mL/g dry matter (DM) of substrates. No ration type × SB extract dose interaction was observed (P > 0.05) for GP kinetics and CH4 production. Increasing the level of PC in the ration quadratically increased (P < 0.01) the asymptotic GP and decreased (P < 0.01) the rate and lag time of GP. Increasing the level of PC in the ration, increased GP values (P < 0.05). Increasing the level of SB extract linearly decreased (P = 0.001) the lag time of GP of all diets without affecting the asymptotic GP or the rate of GP. Ration type and SB level had no effect (P > 0.05) on CH4 production; however, at 36 h of incubation, SB extract decreased CH4 production. The rations PC75 and PC150 increased cecal pH compared with the control ration. The PC150 ration had the highest (P < 0.05) DM degradability, short chain fatty acids production, and gas yield after 24 h of incubation, with no effect (P > 0.05) of SB inclusion on all investigated fermentation kinetic parameters. It is concluded that increasing the level of PC in the diet of horse and replacing CG up to 60%, increased GP and improved cecal fermentation kinetics without affecting CH4 production. Inclusion of S. babylonica extract in the tested rations had weak effects on fermentation kinetics although it decreased the lag time of GP.  相似文献

The present study is designed to investigate the effect of methanolic extract of outer scales and edible portions of Allium cepa bulb on ischemia and reperfusion-induced cerebral injury. Global cerebral ischemia was induced by bilateral carotid artery occlusion for 10 min followed by reperfusion for 24 h. Pretreatment with methanolic extract of outer scales (100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg) and edible portions (100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg) of A. cepa bulb markedly reduced cerebral infarct size and attenuated impairment in short-term memory and motor coordination. The protective effect of methanolic extract of outer scales and edible portions of A. cepa bulb was accompanied by a marked decrease in mitochondrial TBARS.  相似文献

Methanolic extract of Butea monosperma flowers (MEBM) was studied for anti-inflammatory activity against carrageenin induced paw edema and cotton pellet granuloma in albino rats. In carrageenin induced paw edema, MEBM at oral doses of 600 mg/kg and 800 mg/kg, dose-dependently inhibited the paw edema. In cotton pellet induced granuloma, MEBM at the same doses was found to significantly inhibit granuloma tissue formation, including significant reduction in levels of serum lysosomal enzymes (SGOT, SGPT and ALP) and lipid peroxides as compared to control.  相似文献

The effects of brewing time on dry weight content and alpha-glucosidase inhibitory active component released from mulberry (Morus alba) tea were studied. Different tea products showed significant differences in inhibitory activity against both sucrase and maltase. The most effective enzyme inhibition was observed when 3 to 5 min brewing time was applied in tea preparation. In a Caco-2 cell culture experiment the tea reduced the liberated glucose contents in both apical and basal sides of the cell monolayers. It can be concluded that hot water extract of mulberry leaves does have inhibitory effect against alpha-glucosidases, sucrase and maltase enzymes, and has a potential to be consumed as antidiabetic herb tea.  相似文献

The effect of the methanol extract from aerial parts of Bupleurum fruticescens on the release of eicosanoids and hydrolytic enzymes was determined on in vitro cell systems. The extract had a significant effect on 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) activity, inhibiting both LTB4 and 5(S)-HETE production with IC50 values of 112 microg/ml and 95 microg/ml, respectively. At concentrations of 200 microg/ml, the extract also inhibited cyclooxygenase-1 (90%) and elastase activities (54%). The 12-LOX activity in intact platelets was not affected; a fact, which suggests that phospholipase A2 (PLA2) activity, is not modified by the extract.  相似文献

Cordia dichotoma f. (Boraginaceae) is a small deciduous tree from India. The bark of was used in the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) and colic pain traditionally hence present work was undertaken to identify the phytoconstituent responsible for this activity. Apigenin is isolated by column chromatography from methanol fraction of crude methanol extract of C. dichotoma bark. Structure of apigenin is established by various spectroscopic studies. Apigenin (5 mg/kg, p.o.) showed significant healing and reduction in inflammatory enzymes when screened for UC. It can be concluded that apigenin from C. dichotoma bark may be responsible for the treatment of UC.  相似文献

DNA methylation is widespread in plants and associated with plant development and defense mechanisms. However, the relationship between DNA methylation and plant secondary metabolism has rarely been reported. Here, when birch suspension cells were treated with 5-azacytidine(5-azaC), which blocks DNA methylation, triterpenoid accumulation was significantly promoted and antioxidant and defense enzymatic activity changed.For studying triterpenoid accumulation, 0.1 m M aza C was optimal. A qRT-PCR assay revealed increased expression of genes encoding key triterpenoid biosynthetic enzymes.Evaluation of methylation polymorphisms at CCGG sites showed that the methylation level was lower in cells treated with 5-azaC. These results demonstrated that 5-aza C treatment led to an increase in the production of triterpenoids in cell cultures through a mechanism that involved in DNA methylation, which resulted in the induction of genes encoding the key enzymes. The study providesevidence of a relationship between DNA methylation and regulation of secondary metabolism.  相似文献

为给底部渗灌应用于育苗生产提供理论依据,以薄壳山核桃1年生容器实生苗为试材,研究了底部渗灌对不同生长时期的幼苗根系活力及保护酶类的影响。结果表明,底部渗灌显著促进了生长初期薄壳山核桃容器苗根系TTC还原强度,达到362.83μg/(g·h),显著高于上方喷灌苗木根系还原强度,且生长中后期也能保持较高水平的根系活力;底部渗灌处理后,苗木根系MDA含量及SOD、POD和CAT保护酶活性变化趋势与上方喷灌苗木一样,均表现出先上升后下降的趋势,说明底部渗灌对生长初期苗木根系有一定的胁迫,苗木通过提高根系中保护酶的活性减轻伤害,不断适应根系环境。  相似文献

在单因素试验的基础上,通过Box-Benhnken组合设计和响应曲面分析法优化复合酶法提取山茱萸多糖的工艺条件。响应面分析结果表明,由纤维素酶2.0%、果胶酶2.0%、中性蛋白酶1.5%组成的复合酶,在浸提时间69min,浸提温度50℃,pH值3.8时,酶法提取山茱萸多糖的得率最高,山茱萸多糖实际最大提取得率为5.54%。  相似文献

Clitoria ternatea roots methanol extract when given by oral route to rats was found to inhibit both the rat paw oedema caused by carrageenin and vascular permeability induced by acetic acid in rats. Moreover, the extract exhibited a significant inhibition in yeast-induced pyrexia in rats. In the acetic acid-induced writhing response, the extract markedly reduced the number of writhings at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg (p.o.) in mice.  相似文献

Fractions rich in flavonoids obtained from the fruits of Punica granatum extract, orally administered to rats at dose of 10 mg kg(-1) day(-1), showed potential antiperoxidative effect. Concentrations of malondialdehyde, hydroperoxides and conjugated dienes were significantly decreased in liver while the activities of the enzymes catalase, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase showed significant elevation. 以扦插生根困难的邓恩桉和易生根的尾巨桉无性系U9为研究对象,分别从受试材料中酚酸类物质及相关酶活性进行了研究。结果表明:邓恩桉和U9插条提取液酸度及主要酸类物质的种类相近,而邓恩桉插条提取液中酚类物质含量及过氧化物酶(POD)活性明显偏高,吲哚乙酸氧化酶(IAAO)和多酚氧化酶(PPO)活性偏低。通过GC-MS分析,U9提取液中同时存在具有抑制和促进作用的酚类物质,而邓恩桉提取液中仅存在具有抑制作用的一元酚。初步认为,酸类物质对邓恩桉插条生根的抑制作用不明显,而酚类物质中的一元酚对邓恩桉插条生根可能具有一定的抑制作用,且IAAO、POD及PPO活性对邓恩桉插穗生根影响较大。  相似文献
