An active crop canopy reflectance sensor could be used to increase N-use efficiency in maize (Zea mays L.), if temporal and spatial variability in soil N availability and plant demand are adequately accounted for with an in-season N application. Our objective was to evaluate the success of using an active canopy sensor for developing maize N recommendations. This study was conducted in 21 farmers’ fields from 2007 to 2009, representing the maize production regions of east central and southeastern Pennsylvania, USA. Four blocks at each site included seven sidedress N rates (0–280 kg N ha−1) and one at-planting N rate of 280 kg N ha−1. Canopy reflectance in the 590 nm and 880 nm wavelengths, soil samples, chlorophyll meter (SPAD) measurements and above-ground biomass were collected at the 6th–7th-leaf growth stage (V6–V7). Relative amber normalized difference vegetative index (ANDVIrelative) and relative SPAD (SPADrelative) were determined based on the relative measurements from the zero sidedress treatment to the 280 kg N ha−1 at-planting treatment. Observations from the current study were compared to relationships between economic optimum N rate (EONR) and ANDVIrelative, presidedress NO3 test (PSNT), or SPADrelative that were developed from a previous study. These comparisons were based on an absolute mean difference (AMD) between observed EONR and the previously determined predicted relationships. The AMD for the relationship between EONR and ANDVIrelative in the current study was 46 kg N ha−1. Neither the PSNT (AMD = 66 kg N ha−1) nor the SPADrelative (AMD = 72 kg N ha−1) provided as good an indicator of EONR. When using all the observations from the two studies for the relationships between EONR and the various measurements, ANDVIrelative (R2 = 0.65) provided a better estimate of EONR than PSNT (R2 = 0.49) or SPADrelative (not significant). Crop reflectance captured similar information as the PSNT and SPADrelative, as reflected in strong relationships (R2 > 0.60) among these variables. Crop canopy reflectance using an active sensor (i.e. ANDVIrelative) provided as good or better an indicator of EONR than PSNT or SPADrelative, and provides an opportunity to easily adjust in-season N applications spatially.  相似文献

Application time of nitrogen (N) fertilizer can significantly influence the yield and quality of potato tubers. The objective of this experiment was to assess the effects of N application time on dry matter accumulation in foliage and tubers, as well as on marketable tuber ratio, dry matter concentration, and specific gravity of the Chinese cultivar KX 13. The four treatments were as follows: all the 150 kg?N?ha?1 applied at planting (T1); 100 kg N ha?1 applied at planting and 50 kg N ha?1 applied 1 week before tuber initiation (20 days after emergence, DAE) (T2); 100 kg N ha?1 applied at planting and 50 kg N ha?1 applied 1 week before tuber bulking stage (35 DAE) (T3); and 100 kg?N?ha?1 applied at emergence and 50 kg N ha?1 applied 1 week before tuber bulking stage (35 DAE) (T4). For all treatments, 90 kg P2O5 ha?1 ((NH4)2HPO4) and 150 kg K2O ha?1 (K2SO4) were applied at planting. Thirty tons per hectare of marketable tuber yield was achieved with T3, while 23 t ha?1 marketable yield was achieved by applying all 150 kg N ha?1 at planting (T1). Relative to treatment T1, T3 also significantly increased harvest index (HI) from 0.76 to 0.86 and marketable tuber ratio from 64.8% to 79.2%. Applying N at planting in conjunction with dressing at 20 DAE (T2) gave a high marketable tuber ratio (74%) and HI (0.86), but the lower total tuber yield led to a lower marketable tuber yield. Without N application at planting (T4), N dressing did not increase the yield and HI. Treatments with N dressing had no significant effect on specific gravity or dry matter concentration of tubers.  相似文献

Three methods of rice cultivation were compared in a field experiment at New Delhi, India during 2012 for their water use and changes in nutrient availability of soil. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design with conventional transplanting (CT), system of rice intensification (SRI), and aerobic rice (AR) cultivation technologies. Five doses of nitrogen included 100 % (120 kg N ha?1), 125, and 150 % recommended dose of N(RDN) through urea, 75 % of RDN through urea (90 kg N ha?1) + 25 % of RDN (30 kg ha?1) through farm yard manure (FYM), and 100 % of RDN through FYM. Results revealed that status of available N in soil under rice at 45 and 90 days after sowing (DAS) was significantly higher in CT and SRI compared to AR method. Application of the highest dose of nitrogen through urea resulted in the highest availability of N (188.9, 174.2, and 135.2 kg ha?1 for 45 and 90 DAS and at harvest stage, respectively). The soil under AR recorded significantly low availability of phosphorus and iron. However, availability of K in soil was not affected significantly under adopted production techniques and nitrogen management. The recorded irrigation water productivity was maximum in AR cultivation (9.16 kg ha mm?1) followed by SRI (7.02 kg ha mm?1) with irrigation water saving of 54 and 36 %, respectively compared to CT.  相似文献

The effect of nitrogen (N) fertilization on the dry‐matter (DM) yield and nutritional value of sorghum (Sorghum sp., cv. Jumbo) and black oat (Avena strigosa cv., IPR 61) was investigated in the context of forage and livestock production in southern Brazil. Sorghum was cultivated with 0, 37·5, 75, 150, 225, 300 and 375 kg N ha?1 during the summer crop seasons of 2010/11 and 2011/12. Black oat received 0, 40, 80, 120, 160, 200 and 240 kg N ha?1 in the winter of 2011. According to the adjusted polynomial regression, sorghum DM yield increased in response to N up to 288 (12·9 t ha?1) and 264 kg ha?1 (5·6 t ha?1) in 2010/11 and 2011/12 respectively. Crude protein (CP) content of sorghum was highest at 349 and 328 kg N ha?1, but in vitro dry‐matter digestibility (IVDMD) was highest at 212–207 kg N ha?1 in 2010/11 and 2011/12 respectively. Sorghum neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and acid detergent fibre (ADF) were not affected by N fertilization. In black oat, the maximum DM yield (6·0 t ha?1) was obtained with 187 kg N ha?1; the IVDMD, NDF and ADF were not affected by N fertilization, but the CP content increased up to 220 kg N ha?1. It is concluded that these forage species can improve the year‐to‐year amount and quality of forage produced but high rates of N fertilizer are required to achieve high yields. Fertilizer N rates of 210–280 kg N ha?1 in sorghum and 180 kg N ha?1 in black oat in the crop rotation provide the greatest responses in DM yield consistent with good nutritional quality for livestock production.  相似文献

Soil and water pollution caused by organic waste is a concern for livestock-breeding areas. Nitrogen balance in a paddy-field water-purifying system in which cattle feces were applied was studied for 4 years to assess the suitability of the system for a subtropical area, Japan. Three successive harvestings using ratoon of forage rice following one rice transplanting were conducted with chemical fertilizer and high and low rates of cattle-feces application. Nitrogen load was 81.3–495.0 kg N ha?1 year?1, while nitrogen uptake was highly dependent on the yield of the first harvesting. Annual variation of forage rice yields was large, ranging from 15.5 to 26.8 Mg ha?1 owing to fluctuation in the yield at second and later harvestings. On average, nitrogen was lost by leaching at a rate of 2.3–3.4 kg N ha?1 year?1. The nitrogen content in soil at a depth of 0–5 cm increased up to 12.2 kg N ha?1 over the 4-year period compared with that before the field experiment. However, continuous application of cattle feces could slightly increase the nitrogen content in soil at a depth greater than 35 cm. Our results showed the ability of flooded forage rice to remove nitrogen at up to 320.1 kg ha?1 year?1 for a field to which cattle feces were applied. Further investigation is needed to produce a high and stable yield at second harvesting each year, to prevent the accumulation of soil nitrogen, and to assess gaseous nitrogen loss.  相似文献

On a Flemish sandy loam soil, cut and grazed swards were compared at different levels of mineral nitrogen (N) fertilization. Economically optimal N fertilization rates were 400 (or more) and 200 kg N ha?1 yr?1 on cut and grazed swards respectively. Considering the amounts of residual soil nitrate‐N in autumn, these N rates also met the current Flemish legal provisions, i.e. no more than 90 kg ha?1 nitrate‐N present in the 0–90 cm soil layer, measured between 1 October and 15 November. The N use efficiency was considerably higher in cut grassland systems than in grazed systems, even when the animal component of a cut and conservation system was included. The results indicate that, for cut grasslands, two N application rates should be considered: intensively managed grasslands with high amounts of N (400 kg ha?1 yr?1 or more) or extensively managed grasslands with white clover and no more than 100 kg N ha?1 yr?1.  相似文献

The widely adopted alternate wetting and drying (AWD) irrigation for rice production is increasingly needed to quantify the different water outflows and nitrogen leaching losses. We investigated the effects of AWD on percolation, water productivity, nitrogen leaching losses, and nitrogen productivity through in situ experiments. Results show that AWD reduced irrigation water without a significant impact on grain yields and increased the mean water productivity by 16.9 % compared with continuously flood irrigation (CFI). The mean nitrogen productivity of 135 kg ha?1 N level was 22.2 % higher than that of 180 kg ha?1 N level, although grain yields substantially increased because of nitrogen fertilization application. The percolation was also reduced by 15.3 % in 2007 and 8.3 % in 2008 compared to CFI. However, the cumulative percolation of the first 5 days after irrigation in AWD plots is significantly larger than that in CFI plots. The NH4 +–N and TN leaching losses of AWD and CFI had no significant variations while the NO3 ?–N leaching losses were increased caused by AWD. The total NH4 +–N, NO3 ?–N, and TN leaching losses of AWD in the first 3 days after irrigation were higher than that of contemporaneous CFI. The results indicate that the bypass or preferential flow and strengthened nitrification–denitrification nitrogen transformation processes because of alternate wetting and drying potentially decrease the water saving effectiveness and increase the NO3 ?–N loading to the groundwater.  相似文献

New cultivars ‘Alpine Russet’, ‘Dakota Trailblazer’ and ‘Ivory Crisp’ have lower tuber reducing sugars and acrylamide-forming potential. Adoption of new cultivars by growers requires information about their responses to agronomic factors such as nitrogen (N) fertilizer. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of N rate on yield and quality of new cultivars relative to conventional cultivars ‘Russet Burbank’ and ‘Snowden’. The experiment was conducted over two years as a randomized complete block design replicated four times with five N rates and five cultivars. The new cultivars had comparable or higher marketable yields, and a higher percentage of large tubers (greater than170 g) than the standard cultivars. Total and marketable yields responded quadratically to N and optimized at 231 kg ha?1 in 2011 and 319 kg ha?1 in 2012 for all cultivars. ‘Dakota Trailblazer’ had high hollow heart incidence (greater than 10% at N rates above 125 kg ha?1), and excessively high specific gravity, making it undesirable for processing but with potential to be a parent in a breeding program. ‘Alpine Russet’ and ‘Ivory Crisp’ had specific gravity suitable for commercial processing, and low hollow heart incidence at all N rates. Critical petiole nitrate-N concentrations 50 and 70 days after planting for all cultivars were greater in 2012 than in 2011, suggesting that interpretation of critical values can be affected by growing conditions.  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted during rainy seasons of 2009 and 2010 at New Delhi, India to study the influence of varieties and integrated nitrogen management (INM) on methane (CH4) emission and water productivity under flooded transplanted (FT) and aerobic rice (AR) cultivation. The treatments included two rice (‘PB 1’ and ‘PB 1121’) varieties and eight INM practices including N control, recommended dose of N through urea, different combinations of urea with farmyard manure (FYM), green manure (GM), biofertilizer (BF) and vermicompost (VC). The results showed 91.6–92.5 % lower cumulative CH4 emission in AR compared to FT rice. In aerobic conditions, highest cumulative CH4 emission (6.9–7.0 kg ha?1) was recorded with the application of 100 % N by organic sources (FYM+GM+BF+VC). Global warming potential (GWP) was significantly lower in aerobic rice (105.0–107.5 kg CO2 ha?1) compared to FT rice (1242.5–1447.5 kg CO2 ha?1). Significantly higher amount of water was used in FT rice than aerobic rice by both the rice varieties, and a water saving between 59.5 and 63 % were recorded. Under aerobic conditions, both rice varieties had a water productivity of 8.50–14.69 kg ha?1, whereas in FT rice, it was 3.81–6.00 kg ha?1. In FT rice, a quantity of 1529.2–1725.2 mm water and in aerobic rice 929.2–1225.2 mm water was used to produce one kg rice. Thus, there was a saving of 28.4–39.6 % total water in both the rice varieties under AR cultivation.  相似文献

The effect of controlled irrigation and drainage on N leaching losses from paddy fields was investigated by controlling root zone soil water content and water table depth using a lysimeter equipped with an automatic water table control system. Three treatments that combined irrigation and drainage managements were implemented: controlled irrigation (CI) + controlled water table depth 1 (CWT1), CI + controlled water table depth 2 (CWT2), and flooding irrigation (FI) + actual field water table depth (FWT). Controlled irrigation and drainage had significant environmental effects on the reduction of NH4 +–N and NO3 ?–N leaching losses from paddy fields by decreasing water leakage. The NH4 +–N leaching losses from CI + CWT1 and CI + CWT2 were 3.68 and 4.45 kg ha?1, respectively, which significantly reduced by 59.2 and 50.7 % compared with FI + FWT (9.02 kg ha?1). The NO3 ?–N leaching losses from CI + CWT1 and CI + CWT2 were 0.88 and 0.43 kg ha?1 with a significant reduction of 45.2 and 73.2 %, respectively, compared with FI + FWT (1.61 kg ha?1). The application of CI + CWT1 can be a pollution-controlled water management method of reducing N leaching losses from paddy fields.  相似文献

Tropical highland conditions in Mwea Kenya, ensure the high radiation and the large day–night temperature differences. Such conditions are generally believed to promote rice growth and yield, but the current grain yield is lower than the expectation. In the current standard N fertilizer practice in Mwea, 75 kg nitrogen (N) ha?1 is applied in three splits at fixed timing. The effects of increases in N fertilizer amount (125, 175, and 225 kg N ha?1) on rice growth and yield were evaluated to test the hypothesis that unachieved high rice grain yield in Mwea is due to insufficient amount of N fertilizer. Two popular lowland varieties in Mwea (Basmati 370 and BW196) and two varieties reported as high yielding in other countries (Takanari and IR72) were used. Shoot dry weight (DW) increased with increases in the amount of N fertilizer applied in three splits at fixed timing, irrespective of variety. It reached approximately 20 t ha?1 under increased N conditions (>75 kg N ha?1) in several cases, indicating that high biomass production could be achieved by increasing N application rate. However, the increased biomass did not increase grain yield, due to decreased grain filling under high N conditions in all varieties. Thus, N amounts above 75 kg ha?1 were ineffective for increasing grain yields in Mwea, where N fertilizer was applied in three splits at fixed timing. Increasing influence of low temperature under high N conditions may be one of the reasons for the decreased grain filling in Mwea.  相似文献

Sugarcane is a crop of great economic, social, and environmental relevance in Brazil. The country is the largest sugar producer and the second largest bioethanol producer in the world. The goal of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of a sugarcane inoculant composed of five diazotrophic bacterial strains, as well as nitrogen fertilization of two sugarcane varieties. Two experiments were carried out on two varieties using an experimental design composed of complete randomized blocks in a factorial of two varieties and three treatments with four replicates. The treatments can be described as: inoculation with the consortium of five diazotrophic strains, or N fertilization with 120 kg ha?1, and one control treatment. The following parameters were then evaluated: stem yield, accumulation of total dry matter, nitrogen content, quality of the sugarcane juice, and 15N natural abundance on flag-leaves. Inoculation and N fertilization on the Sapucaia plantation promoted increases of stem yield equivalent to 22.3 and 26.5 Mg ha?1 in the RB867515 variety, in comparison to the control, respectively. Inoculation and N fertilizer used for the Coruripe plantation increased stem yield of 38.0 and 42.4 Mg ha?1, respectively, with the RB867515 variety, while RB72454 showed increases of 16.7 and 37.5 Mg ha?1, both compared to the control. Biological nitrogen fixation was not affected by the treatments, however, both treatments increased the total recoverable sugar yield. Benefits from inoculation appeared to promote plant growth due to the plant–bacteria interaction.  相似文献

Deep placement of urea supergranules in wetland rice (Oryza sativa L.) or correct urea band application enables to protect nitrogen (N) from various loss mechanisms, but recovering of fertilizer N by plants depends upon geometric and agronomic factors. The objective of this study was to characterize the diffusion of ammoniacal N from the two urea sources, point or line application, in a typical paddy soil. A model of ammonia diffusion was developed for the two geometries. The relation between the N application rate and the transplanting geometry was studied in two fields using probes attached to urea supergranule of different mass (2 and 4 g). The transplanting pattern was adapted for obtaining 58 or 116 kg N ha?1 in the 4 g application. The ammoniacal nitrogen concentration was compared to the diffusion model prediction. The values of the diffusion coefficient were found to be 1.160 and 1.107 cm2 d?1. Ammonia disappearance below 10 mmol L?1 did not follow the same kinetics in the two treatments corresponding to 4 g application. Relative to the 2 g treatment, root ammonia uptake in the 4 g treatment was delayed and slowed in the classical geometry of 20 cm × 20 cm (116 kg N ha?1) when it was mainly delayed in the geometry provided with 58 kg N ha?1. This manipulation of the source–sink relationship enables to foresee possibilities for the development of new fertilizers adapted to wetland rice cultivation.  相似文献

To study the radiation utilization efficiency, latent heat flux, and simulate growth of rice during post-flood period in eastern coast of India, on-farm trial was conducted with three water regimes in main plots (W 1 = continuous flooding of 5 cm, W 2 = irrigation after 2 days of water disappearance, and W 3 = irrigation after 5 days of water disappearance) and five nitrogen levels in subplots (N 1 = 0 kg N ha?1, N 2 = 60 kg N ha?1, N 3 = 90 kg N ha?1, N 4 = 120 kg N ha?1, and N 5 = 150 kg N ha?1) on a rice cultivar, ‘Lalat’. Average maximum radiation utilization efficiency (RUE) in terms of above ground dry biomass of 2.09 (±0.05), 2.10 (±0.02), and 1.9 (±0.08) g MJ?1 were computed under W 1, W 2, and W 3, respectively. Nitrogen increased the RUE significantly, mean RUE values were computed as 1.60 (±0.07), 1.78 (±0.02), 2.060 (±0.08), 2.30 (±0.07), and 2.34 (±0.08) g MJ?1 when the crop was grown with 0, 60, 90, 120, and 150 kg ha?1 nitrogen, respectively. Midday average latent heat flux (on clear days) varied from 7.4 to 14.9 and 8 to 13.6 MJ m?2 day?1 under W 2 and W 3 treatments, respectively, at different growth stages of the crop in different seasons. The DSSAT 4.5 model was used to simulate phenology, growth, and yield which predicted fairly well under higher dose of nitrogen (90 kg and above), but the model performance was found to be poor under low-nitrogen dose.  相似文献

Application of biochar to soils is hypothesized to increase crop yield. Crop productivity impacts of biochar application in southeastern cropping systems consisting of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.), corn (Zea mays L.), and cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) produced under varying rates of irrigation have not been addressed. This research incorporated biochar at two different rates into a long-term irrigation and cropping systems study to compare yield and quality response of peanut, corn, and cotton. Biochar was incorporated into soil once at the beginning of the 4-year project at rates of 22.4 and 44.8 Mg ha?1. Peanut, corn, and cotton were produced under three sprinkler irrigation levels (100%, 66%, and 33%), shallow surface drip irrigation (100%), and a nonirrigated control. Crop input management followed best management practices. Sprinkler irrigation was scheduled by Irrigator Pro for Peanuts, Corn, and Cotton at the 100% level and the 66% and 33% levels were applied at the same time as the 100% level. Significant year, irrigation, and year × irrigation effects for corn, cotton, and peanut yield resulted (p < 0.001). No differences resulted for biochar in corn (p = 0.930) or cotton (p = 0.678). Peanut yield showed a significant response to biochar comparing the 44.8 Mg ha?1 rate to the untreated control in nonirrigated production at the p = 0.05 level and in the 33% irrigated treatment at the p = 0.10 level. No negative effects resulted from biochar opening opportunities for biochar application in southeastern U.S. cropping systems for purposes related to carbon sequestration without compromising productivity of producers and related agricultural sectors.  相似文献

Grassland and its management is central to the productivity of and nitrogen (N) losses from dairy farms in north‐west Europe. Botanical composition, production and N surplus of grassland were assessed during five consecutive years. The experiment consisted of all combinations of five defoliation systems: cutting‐only (CO), rotational grazing (GO), grazing + one (MSI) or two silage cuts (MSII) and simulated grazing (SG). Four mineral N fertilization rates (0–300 kg N ha?1 year?1) and two slurry levels (0 and 20 m3 slurry ha?1 year?1) were applied. Fertilizer N was more efficient in producing net energy (NEL) in grazing‐dominated, low white clover systems (GO and MSI systems: 70 and 88 MJ NEL kg?1 N) than in white clover‐rich systems (MSII, CO and SG systems: ≤60 MJ NEL kg?1 N). While sward productivity in system MSI was similar to that in system GO, system MSII benefited from increased N2 fixation at low N rates. There were small differences in NEL concentrations of the herbage between defoliation systems. Crude protein concentration of the herbage increased with increasing N supply from fertilizer, excreta and N2 fixation. N surpluses (?63 to +369 kg N ha?1 year?1) increased with increasing grazing intensity and increasing N fertilization rate. The average response in N surplus applied was 0·81, 0·59, 0·40, 0·33 and 0·24 kg N ha?1 in systems GO, MSI, MSII, CO and SG respectively.  相似文献

In 1988 and 1989, swards of grass (G0), while clover (C0) and grass/white clover (GC0) receiving no N fertilizer, and a grass sward supplied with 420 kg N ha?1 (G420), were grazed by non-lactating sheep to maintain a sward surface height of 6 cm. Herbage organic matter (OM) intakes averaged between 1200 and 1700 g OM ewe?1 d?1. For treatments G0, C0, GC0 and G420 respectively, the ewes' live weight gain was 102, 112, 100 and 110 g d?1 and changes in body condition scores were +0·28, +0·52, +0·36 and +0·44 units season?1. However, the effect of treatment was not significant for either variable. There were similar levels of output of faecal N ewe?1 but significantly more urinary N ewe?1 was excreted on treatments C0 and G420, where the concentrations of N in herbage laminae were also higher. For example, in 1989, total daily N excreted was 39·7, 64·4, 44·0 and 63·3 g N ewe?1 for G0, C0, GC0 and G420 respectively. Taking into account the mean daily stocking rates, which were 19·4, 26·6, 27·2 and 36·5 ewe ha?1, the total faeces and urine returns over the season were 161, 358, 249 and 484 kg N ha?1 for each treatment respectively. The herbage OM intakes ewes?1 d?1 measured in September and October were similar for C0 and G420, and so the intake of herbage OM ha?1 d?1 was related to stocking rate, i. e. the estimated herbage intake ha?1 over the growing season for the white clover monoculture was 73% of that for N-fertilized grass. Excretal nitrogen returns to the pasture from grazed mono-cultures of clover were high, and similar to those from a grass sward receiving 420 kg fertilizer N ha?1. Consequently potential losses of N to the environment are high under these management systems.  相似文献

The effects of different levels of N fertilization (no N, 40 kg N and 80 kg N ha?1 year?1), P fertilization (no P, 21 kg P ha?1 year?1 and 21 kg P plus 53 kg K ha?1 year?1) and stocking rates (0·52 large stock units (LSU) ha?1, 0·78 LSU ha?1 and 1·56 LSU ha?1) on the chemical composition and in vitro dry matter digestibility of the herbage and the liveweight gains of steers were determined in the western variant of the Bankenveld in South Africa. The average daily liveweight gains (ADLGs) of the steers increased with increasing level of N fertilization. Fertilization with P had a positive effect on ADLG only when 53 kg of K was applied with 21 kg of P ha?1. Higher stocking rates reduced ADLGs. The liveweight gains ha?1 increased as the rates of N and P fertilization increased. The medium stocking rate (0·78 LSU ha?1) gave a higher liveweight gain ha?1 than the lowest stocking rate (0·52 LSU ha?1), but the highest stocking rate (1·56 LSU ha?1) reduced liveweight gain ha?1. In general, in terms of chemical components, a higher nutritive value of the veld herbage resulted from N fertilization. The higher crude protein (CP) content of the herbage, resulting from higher stocking rates, should be seen against the background of lower liveweight gains ha?1 at the highest stocking rate. On pasture with similar contents of CP and acid detergent fibre (ADF), higher ADLG of steers was found as a result of P and K fertilization, especially for herbage with a lower CP and a higher ADF content, implying better utilization of the nutrients in such herbage with P and K fertilization, although P was also supplemented through a lick.  相似文献

Two field experiments were conducted at Teagasc, Moorepark, Ireland, to determine the effect of sowing date and nitrogen application on the dry‐matter (DM) yield and crude protein (CP) content of forage rape and stubble turnips. The first experiment consisted of three sowing dates (1 August, 15 August and 31 August) with four rates of fertilizer N (0, 40, 80 and 120 kg N ha?1) on forage rape DM yields. The second experiment consisted of three sowing dates (1 August, 15 August and 31 August) with four rates of fertilizer N (0, 40, 80 and 120 kg N ha?1) over two soil sites (fertile or nitrogen depleted) on forage rape and stubble turnip DM yields. A delay in sowing from 1 to 31 August characterized a 74·5% decrease in forage rape DM yield, while stubble turnip DM yield decreased by 55·5%. Forage rape DM yields increased positively up to 120 kg N ha?1 at the first two sowing dates over both sites. In contrast, stubble turnips showed less response beyond 40 kg N ha?1 on site 1 in the first two sowing dates, while DM yield increased positively up to 120 kg N ha?1 on the less fertile site. The results indicate that the optimal sowing time for forage rape and a stubble turnip in Ireland was early August.  相似文献

Drought stress which often occurs during early growth stage is one constraint in sugarcane production. In this study, the response of sugarcane to drought and nitrogen application for physiological and agronomical characteristics was investigated. Two water regimes (well-watered and drought stress from 60 to 120 day after transplanting) and four nitrogen levels (0, 4.4, 8.8 and 13.2 g pot?1 equivalent to 0, 90, 180 and 270 kg ha?1, respectively) were assigned in a Split-plot design with three replications. The results showed that photosynthetic responses to light intensity and intercellular CO2 concentrations of sugarcane were different between fertilized and non-fertilized treatments. Photosynthetic rates of 180 and 270 N treatments, normally, were significantly higher than that of 90 N, but not significant at drought conditions. Photosynthetic rates of 0 N treatment were the lowest under both conditions. Higher nitrogen application supported higher photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, and chlorophyll content because of higher nitrogen concentration accumulated into the leaf. Drought significantly reduced the potential photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, SPAD, leaf area, and biomass production. Higher nitrogen applications with larger root system could support higher photosynthetic activities to accumulate more dry mass. Strong positive coefficient between photosynthetic and biomass nitrogen use efficiency and drought tolerance index may suggest that higher nitrogen use efficiency could help plants have higher ability to tolerate drought stress.  相似文献
