Thirty-six adult ewes rearing single male lambs were randomly allocated to three paddocks (n = 12) grazing permanent Pyrenean pastures in spring (0.5 ha/lot). Treatments were rationed grazing (Rat-Gr) in which lambs remained indoors and ewes grazed during 8 h/day (08:00–16:00 h) and were supplemented 0.5 kg/day of barley meal; continuously grazing ewes rearing non-supplemented lambs (Gr) and continuously grazing ewes rearing supplemented lambs in creep feeders at pasture (Gr + S). Grazing behaviour was registered at weekly intervals by direct observation during the outdoor time in Rat-Gr and from dawn to dusk in Gr and Gr + S.

Sward height of Rat-Gr became higher than the rest (P < 0.05), resulting in a greater dry matter and a lower crude protein content of this pasture (P < 0.05). Ewe live-weight, body condition score and lumbar fat thickness were similar across treatments (P > 0.05), while milk yield was higher in Gr + S (P < 0.05). Lambs from Rat-Gr and Gr + S presented a higher average daily gain than Gr treatment (P < 0.05). Grazing behaviour records showed that all treatments spent grazing similar percentages of daylight time at pasture (average 52%; P > 0.05). Ewes biting rate was greater in Gr (P < 0.05) and it was higher after noon in all treatments (P < 0.001). Gr and Gr + S showed an extended peak of grazing (min/h) in the evening. Lambs followed the grazing pattern of dams since 3 weeks old. It was concluded that in contrast with the traditional indoor system of managing production of light lambs both spring continuous grazing systems allowed producing Ternasco lambs (18–24 kg LW, younger than 90 days old). Lambs supplemented suckling their mothers and grazing until slaughter showed similar performance to those obtained in indoor system. Dietary supplementation of lambs at pasture did not impair ewes milk yield and grazing time but reduced their biting rate and the offspring grazing time.  相似文献

The influence of a dietary supplementation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) during the first and the second phase of lactation on dry matter (DM) intake, organic matter digestibility, milk yield and quality and haematological profile was evaluated in buffalo cows. Lactating buffaloes (n = 190), 118.7 days in milk (DIM), were randomly divided into Group C (control, n = 95) and Group T (fed diet supplemented with 98 billion CFU of S. cerevisiae, n = 95). Eight buffaloes for each group (Groups T1 and C1), 85.4 DIM, were used to study the in vivo digestibility and the haematological profile. No differences were found for DM intake (16.5 kg·day− 1) and haematological profile. The SC supplementation increased milk yield (7.9 ± 0.2 vs. 7.4 ± 0.2; P < 0.01) but did not affect milk fat and protein. SC supplementation increased OM digestibility, mainly, in the first phase of lactation (< 135 days), thus allowing a higher energy availability for milk yield and reduced fat mobilization.  相似文献

The impacts of using a modified farrowing pen (MOD) on the performance of sows and their litters and on ambient air quality over a hot and a cool season were evaluated. Primiparous Yorkshire × Landrace sows farrowed either during the months of February and March (thermoneutralily, TN) or June and July (heat-stress, HS). Temperatures within each season were controlled to 21 and 29 °C, respectively, for TN and HS. Animals from each group were assigned to a standard farrowing crate (STD; TN, n = 17; HS, n = 16) or a MOD pen (TN, n = 19; HS, n = 19). The MOD pen consisted of a STD crate with a 1.5 × 1.6-m comfort zone in the back, equipped with rubber floor mats, a feeder and a nipple waterer. Litter size was standardized to 10 or 11. No creep feed was provided and piglets were weighed weekly. Sows were weighed on days 2 and 22. Feed intake of sows was monitored daily, a milk sample was obtained on day 21 for compositional analyses and jugular blood samples were collected on days 2 and 21 to measure prolactin, IGF-I and urea. Sows consumed less feed (3.4 vs. 4.7 ± 0.1 kg/day, P < 0.001) in a hot than in a cool season and, at 29 °C, sows in MOD pens consumed more feed (3.9 vs. 3.0 ± 0.2 kg/day, P < 0.01) than sows in STD pens. Sow lactation weight loss was greater (− 26.4 vs. − 19.1 ± 1.9 kg, P < 0.05) for sows in STD than MOD pens in a hot season. The reduction in prolactin concentrations from days 2 to 22 of lactation tended to be greater (P = 0.08) in a hot season for sows in STD pens. Concentrations of urea and IGF-I increased as lactation advanced (P < 0.01) and IGF-I was lower for HS compared to TN sows on both days (P < 0.01), whereas urea was greater for HS sows on day 2 only (P < 0.01). Milk DM was less in a hot than in a cool season (P < 0.01). Average piglet weight gain was reduced in a hot compared to a cool season during the second week of lactation (P < 0.05) and this reduction was less in MOD than STD pens during the third week of lactation (P < 0.01). During a hot season, even though not significant, average weight gain of piglets from days 2 to 21 of lactation was reduced by 6.0% in MOD pens compared to 9.7% in STD pens.  相似文献

The variation in milk acetone concentration between cows and the resumption of ovarian activity was determined in 68 Holstein–Friesian cows grazing pasture. Cows calved in two groups approximately three weeks apart and were assessed over the first 60 d of lactation.

The largest coefficient of variation (152%) for milk acetone concentration between cows was found in the first week of lactation. This variability in milk acetone concentration was largely explained by a consistent cyclic pattern, in relation to the day of the study, with regular peaks at 21–26 d intervals. These peaks were synchronised between cows, and cows in the second group synchronised with cows in the first group.

Milk acetone peaks greater than 0.4 mmol/L were associated with a significant drop in milk yield, possibly due to energy deprivation around this time. In this respect, liveweight change over the first 60 d of lactation was significantly negatively correlated (r = − 0.29, p < 0.05) with the mean milk acetone concentration taken over the same period. However, there was no significant relationship (p > 0.05) between mean or maximal milk acetone concentration and the resumption of ovarian activity for the cows that resumed ovarian activity in the first 9-weeks post-partum.

The results of this study suggest that the use of milk acetone as a practical indicator of energy balance is limited due to its variability over time. Milk acetone concentration may be useful in experimental situations or when regular milk samples can be obtained in the field, such as in-line analysis. There is a need to undertake more research to elucidate the implications of the cyclic pattern of acetone concentration in milk on reproductive performance.  相似文献

The low nutrient intake shortly after weaning is a major cause of post-weaning problems. Feed intake after weaning is strongly related to feed intake during lactation. Feed intake during lactation, however, varies considerably between litters. We hypothesised that prenatal and postnatal exposure to certain flavours would increase the intake of feed containing the same flavours pre- and postweaning. Multiparous sows did (n = 17) or did not (n = 14) receive 50 g garlic granulate/powder and 25 g aniseed as daily additive to their diet during the last month of gestation and during lactation. From day 14 of lactation, litters were submitted to intermittent suckling: 12 h separation form the sow each day. During lactation, all litters had 40 g garlic and 20 g aniseed per kg added to their creep feed. After weaning, half of the litters had no additive in their diet. Piglets were weaned at 4 weeks (13 litters) or at 6 weeks (18 litters). At 6 weeks of lactation, litters of which the dam received the flavour in her diet, had a higher feed intake (309 ± 43 vs 233 ± 35 g/p/d) than litters of dams without the flavour, although the difference was not significant. Sow diet had no effect on postweaning feed intake, but postweaning piglet diet did. Late (week 6) weaned litters receiving the flavoured feed had a higher feed intake from 3 to 10 days after weaning (833 ± 38 vs 687 ± 58 g/p/d). Weight gain during the first 10 days after weaning was not affected by sow or pig diets. Feed intake and weight gain shortly after weaning were strongly related to feed intake during lactation (overall R = 0.64, P < 0.05 and R = 0.77, P < 0.05). We conclude that early experience with flavours increases later acceptance and improves adaptation to post weaning conditions.  相似文献

The primary aim of the present study was to establish whether the treatment with a GnRH agonist on Day 5 after AI may result in the formation of an accessory corpus luteum, greater progesterone secretion, and the increased likelihood of pregnancy success in buffaloes. The study was conducted during a period of increasing daylight length when progesterone secretion is suppressed and embryonic mortality is relatively high in buffaloes. In Experiment 1, treatment with a GnRH agonist (buserelin, 12 μg) on Day 5 after AI induced acute increases in circulating concentrations of LH, FSH and oestradiol-17β. Pregnant buffaloes (n = 14) at Day 40 following AI showed an increase (P < 0.01) in milk whey progesterone concentration between Day 5 (310 ± 55 pg/ml) and Day 15 (424 ± 50 pg/ml). The non-pregnant buffaloes (n = 7) showed a decrease (P < 0.01) in progesterone level from Day 5 (410 ± 87 pg/ml) to Day 15 (188 ± 30 pg/ml) following AI. In Experiment 2, the treatment with buserelin (12 μg) on Day 5 after AI induced ovulation in 62% of the buffaloes (31/50) and these buffaloes showed a progressive increase in milk whey progesterone concentration on Day 10, 15 and 20 of pregnancy. Buffaloes that did not ovulate, recorded a relatively constant milk whey progesterone level from Day 10 to Day 20 following AI. Milk whey progesterone concentrations increased after the administration of the GnRH agonist in 97% of the pregnant buffaloes and 68% of the non-pregnant buffaloes. The diameter of the largest follicle in buffaloes that ovulated (ovulated n = 31) (8.9 ± 0.04 mm; range 4.2 – 13.0 mm) did not differ significantly from the diameter of the largest follicle in buffaloes that did not ovulate (not ovulate n = 19) (8.7 ± 0.04 mm; range: 4.0 – 12.0 mm). The latter observation suggested that notional ovulatory size follicles in buffaloes are heterogeneous with respect to stage of follicle maturation and capacity to respond to plasma LH. The present study showed that treatment with a GnRH agonist on Day 5 following AI provides a strategy to increase progesterone secretion and the likelihood of pregnancy in buffaloes mated during periods of increasing daylight length.  相似文献

A grazing experiment, conducted for 90 days compared the effect of polyethylene glycol (PEG) supplementation on postpartum reproductive traits and productivity of suckling goats grazing Acacia cyanophylla Lindl. A total of 54 native adult goats (34.4 ± 5.49 kg) were randomly allocated, 24 h after kidding, to 2 treatment groups balanced for age and the number of reared kids. Goats in both treatment groups designed C and PEG grazed in acacia for approximately 5 h every day and received each on daily basis 0.3 and 0.4 kg of hay and concentrate respectively. In addition, goats in treatment PEG were initially supplemented with 10 g/day of PEG and this supplement was then increased to 20 g /goat/day over the last 60 days of the trial. Goats receiving PEG tended (P > 0.05) to spend more time browsing acacia than those in treatment C. There were no treatment effects on live weight change of the goats, growth of their kids until 90 days of age or composition of their milk in terms of fat, protein and urea contents. Similar proportions of 74.1 and 77.8% of goats resumed postpartum ovulation with a mean ovulation rate of 1.50 ± 0.61 and 1.67 ± 0.47 (P > 0.05) in respectively the PEG and C treatments. PEG supplementation was associated with an increase (P < 0.05) in ovulation rate at the second postpartum ovulation occurring approximately 27 days after the application of the nutritional treatments (1.76 ± 0.60 versus 1.25 ± 0.45); 9 of the 13 goats ovulating in the PEG treatment were bearing more than one corpus lutuem in comparison to only 3 out of 12 females in the C group (P < 0.05). The likely increased availability of proteins in the PEG receiving goats could explain their higher ovulation rate.  相似文献

Routine examination of milk was performed on five herds of lactating goats in northern Italy as part of a milk quality-monitoring program in the year 2000. As part of the study, aseptic samples of foremilk were collected monthly from both half udders during the entire lactation for 305 goats, resulting in a total of 4571 samples. The samples were tested with cytological and bacteriological analyses to evaluate the relationship between mammary infections and somatic-cell count (SCC; Fossomatic (TM) method). Prevalence of intramammary infection (IMI) was 40.2% (n = 1837) of all udder-half samples examined. The most-prevalent mastitis agents were coagulase-negative Staphylococci (CNS), 80% (n = 1474 udder-half samples); within this group, Staphylococcus epidermidis was the most-prevalent species (38%). Other prevalence were Staphylococcus aureus 6% (n = 112 udder-half samples) and environmental pathogens 14% of infected udder-half samples (n = 251) with a diverse mixture of species, none of which had a frequency of >4%. Enterococcus faecalis was the most-frequently isolated among this group. Neither Salmonella spp. nor Listeria monocytogenes were detected. The risk (sample level) of infection differed across herds, parities, and stage of lactation according to results from logistic multiple regression. Infection was more common among goats in third and fourth parities and during the later stages of lactation. Of the 2734 samples from uninfected udder halves, the mean log2 SCC was 3.9 cell/ml; of the 1837 bacteriological positive samples, the mean log2 SCC was 5.6 cell/ml. According to results from a linear mixed model, concentrations of somatic cells tended to increase with increasing age and days in milk and with the presence of bacteria. Infection with S. aureus was associated with the highest SCS.  相似文献

Two experiments were undertaken to examine the direct and residual responses of late lactation (mean of 232 days calved) autumn calving dairy cows (Experiment 1), and late lactation (mean of 240 days calved) spring calving dairy cows (Experiment 2), to once-daily milking. Experiments 1 and 2 involved 50 and 44 Holstein–Friesian dairy cows respectively. In each of the two experiments, cows were milked either once daily (ODM) or twice daily (TDM), during the late lactation period (mean of 79 and 66 days in Experiments 1 and 2 respectively). Cows in Experiment 1 were managed within a grazing system, and were offered 3.0 kg of concentrate/day, while cows in Experiment 2 were housed, and offered grass silage supplemented with 6.0 kg concentrate/day. Forty-one cows from Experiment 1, and 32 cows from Experiment 2, completed the first eight weeks of the subsequent lactation on a twice-daily milking regime. Food intakes were not measured in Experiment 1, while treatment had no significant effect on dry matter intake in Experiment 2 (P > 0.05). In each of Experiments 1 and 2, total milk output was increased with twice-daily milking (P ≤ 0.05), while milk fat (P ≤ 0.01) and protein (P < 0.001) concentrations increased with once-daily milking. Somatic cell counts were higher with animals milked once daily in Experiment 1 (P < 0.001), while not being significantly affected by milking frequency in Experiment 2 (P > 0.05). Milking frequency had no significant effect on cow live weight or on cow condition score at the point of drying off in either Experiment (P > 0.05). Milking time per cow during morning milking was unaffected by treatment in either experiment, while total daily milking time per cow (morning and evening combined) was significantly longer with the TDM treatment (P < 0.001). In Experiment 1, milk flow rates during the morning milking were higher with animals on the ODM treatment, compared to those on TDM treatment (P < 0.001), while being unaffected by treatment in Experiment 2 (P > 0.05). Neither daily milk yield, milk fat content, milk protein content, or somatic cell count during the subsequent lactation, were affected by previous lactation milking frequency in either of Experiments 1 or 2 (P > 0.05).  相似文献

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of contrasting spring grazing dates (GD) and stocking rate (SR) on sward characteristics, grass dry matter intake and milk production performance of autumn calving dairy cows during the spring period. Two swards were created by grazing in March (early grazing; E) or by delaying first grazing until mid-April (late grazing; L). Two stocking rates, high (H; 5.5) and medium (M; 4.5) were applied across each sward. Forty eight autumn calving Holstein cows (160 ± 35 days in milk) were assigned to one of four (n = 12) different grazing treatments. The experiment began on April 17th and finished after 2 grazing rotations on June 20th. Later spring grazing significantly increased herbage mass (kg DM/ha) above ground level (+ 933, P < 0.05) and > 50 mm (+ 738, P < 0.05). Compressed sward height (+ 22.1 mm, P < 0.05), extended tiller height (+ 73 mm, P < 0.001) and pseudostem height (+ 35 mm, P < 0.001) were also significantly higher for later grazed swards. In the grazing horizon (> 80 mm— extended tiller height), later grazed swards had significantly lower leaf proportion (− 0.09, P < 0.05) and higher dead material (+ 0.05, P < 0.001). Daily herbage allowance (> 50 mm) was on average 12.7, 15.9, 18.2 and 21.9 kg DM/cow for EH, EM, LH and LM, respectively. Daily leaf allowance (> 80 mm) was 10.1, 12.3, 13.3 and 14.5 kg DM/cow for EH, EM, LH and LM, respectively. The EM (16.2 kg DM/cow), LH (+ 0.1 kg) and LM (0.8 kg) treatments all had similar grass DM intake, however there was evidence of an interaction (P < 0.10) between GD and SR, this was due to the low grass DM intake of the EH (13.9 kg DM/cow) treatment. When expressed as UFL (Fill unit) intake the EM treatment recorded the highest value. There was a significant interaction between GD and SR (P < 0.01) for milk, protein yield, 4% fat corrected milk yield (P < 0.05) and protein concentration (P < 0.001). Cows grazing the EM treatment produced 23.9 kg of milk, 876 and 685 g of fat and protein yield. The difference in milk production (cow/day) between EM and EH treatments was + 3.6 kg milk, + 98 g fat and + 107 g protein. The production yield difference between LM and LH treatments was + 1.1 kg milk, + 27 g fat and + 29 g protein in favour of the LM treatment (23.9 kg of milk, 877 and 687 g fat and protein yield). Herbage quality and morphological characteristics are clearly improved with early spring grazing as herbage mass is reduced on subsequent rotations. Swards grazed in early spring allow higher grass utilisation and high milk production performance when grazed at a medium stocking rate. Improved milk production from herbage can be achieved provided herbage mass and allowance are maintained at levels where herbage quality decreases are minimised.  相似文献

Suckling pigs were separated from their dam for 24 h on day 21 (1 × 24 h fasting, n = 10) or day 21 and 24 (2 × 24 h fasting, n = 10). Pigs in the control group (n = 10) were not fasted before weaning. All pigs were weaned on day 28 postpartum. Feed intake during the first 4 days post-weaning was higher (P < 0.05) for pigs exposed to 1 × 24 h fasting compared with controls. Water consumption was not affected by fasting prior to weaning. The difference in post-weaning feed uptake was not reflected in any clinical traits, intestinal morphology, or activity of digestive enzymes (maltase, dipeptidylpeptidase IV, aminopeptidases A and N; P > 0.15). In conclusion, a short period of fasting prior to weaning can increase post-weaning feed uptake, although this had no clinical impact under the present experimental conditions.  相似文献

A total of 356 early lactation multiparous Holstein cows were used in a randomized complete block design to determine the effects of feeding extruded linseed on milk production and composition, and reproductive performance. Forty of these cows were randomly selected to study the effects of extruded linseed on milk fatty acid (FA) profile, individual feed intake and prostaglandin secretion. Cows were fed a 40:60 forage to concentrate ratio diet (17.9% CP, 27.7% NDF and 6.0% EE) ad libitum that was similar in composition between treatments except for the protein supplements that differed and were control (CTR: 4.9% extruded soybean) and linseed (LIN: 5.5% extruded linseed). Individual DM intake measured at 40 (23.0 kg/d) and 90 (24.2 kg/d) days in milk, and milk yield (45.0 kg/d) were not affected by treatment, but the lower (P < 0.05) milk fat percentage in cows fed LIN (2.65%) compared with CTR (2.86%) resulted in lower (P < 0.05) 4.0% fat-corrected milk yield for cows fed LIN (35.4 kg/d) compared with CTR (37.7 kg/d). Milk protein content was higher (P < 0.05) in LIN (3.04%) than in CTR (3.00%). The concentration of saturated FA was lower (P < 0.05) in milk fat from LIN (56.2%) compared with CTR (60.2%). Monounsaturated FA (35.7 vs. 32.7%) and polyunsaturated FA (8.0 vs. 6.9%) were higher in LIN (P < 0.05) than in CTR. Supplementation with LIN also increased (P < 0.05) the proportion of vaccenic acid (2.21 vs. 1.55%), total conjugated linoleic acid (0.91 vs. 0.72%) and n-3 FA (1.21 vs. 0.54%) in milk compared with CTR. Plasma concentrations of prostaglandin metabolite were numerically lower in LIN (106 pg/ml) compared with CTR (120 pg/ml) (P = 0.16) but reproductive performance was similar between treatments. In summary, extruded linseed reduced milk fat percentage and 4.0% fat-corrected milk yield and increased milk protein percentage and the content of healthy FA in milk without modifying DM intake, milk yield and reproductive performance.  相似文献

The effect of bile extract on microbial gas formation and composition, production of volatile fatty acids (VFA) and methane and on reductive acetogenesis was studied in vitro. As substrates cellulose and potato starch in combination with graded levels of bile extract concentrations (0; 333; 666; 1333 mg/l) were incubated with a faecal suspension from pigs as microbial inoculum according to procedures of a modified “Hohenheim gas formation test” (HFT). Bile extract concentration of 1333 mg/l in the in vitro system reduced total gas production from cellulose significantly (p < 0.05) compared to incubation without bile extract. After 24 h of incubation, bile extract concentration of 1333 mg/l lead to a decrease in methane production from cellulose (p < 0.05) in comparison to incubation without bile extract. Increasing levels of bile extract reduced total production of VFA (p < 0.05) from cellulose. Furthermore, bile extract concentration of 1333 mg/l increased molar percentage of propionate from cellulose and starch after 24 h of incubation (p < 0.05). Bile extract concentration of 333 mg/l increased molar percentage of propionate from cellulose after 48 h of incubation (p < 0.05). The results may contribute to explain the differences in gas and methane production between the rumen and the hindgut of monogastric animals.  相似文献

Forty multiparous cows (599 kg ± 18 kg BW) were fed with a basal diet (19.6% CP, 35% RUP, and 1.7 Mcal kg− 1 NEl) with alfalfa, corn silage and concentrate (49% forage: 52% concentrate). After calving, cows were randomly assigned to the treatments, which consisted in four levels of ruminally protected methionine (RPM): 0, 8, 16 and 24 g d− 1 of Mepron®M85 (Degussa Co.). Experiment was conducted for 120 days with measurements of milk production, composition, body weight, body condition score and DM intake every 15 days (3 consecutive days) starting on day 5 postpartum. Data were analyzed with the repeated measures model (four treatments in 8 periods through lactation). No treatment effects were detected on DM intake (20.38 ± 2.51 kg d− 1), body weight (599.78 ± 19.78 kg), body condition score (2.51 ± 0.19 units) and milk fat. However, milk production and protein yield were increased with addition of RPM (P < 0.01). Milk production responded quadratically to methionine level. Holstein cows with a mean production of 35 kg d− 1 milk require addition of ruminally protected methionine (16 g d−1) to improve milk production.  相似文献

Effect of floor cooling on performance of lactating sows during summer   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Forty Landrace × Large White lactating sows were used to evaluate the effects of cooling of the floor when maintained under high temperature conditions during summer on their productive and reproductive performance. The sows were allocated in a completely randomized design with two treatments with 20 replicates according to parity number and body weight, with each animal being considered an experimental unit. The treatments consisted of cooling of the floor under the sow with water circulation at about 17 °C and no cooling. The resulting temperatures of the floor were 27.6 and 35.8 °C for the cooled and the control treatments, respectively. The sows from both treatments were exposed to average maximum and minimum environmental temperatures of 26.9 and 20.8 °C, respectively. Sows maintained on a cooled floor had a higher feed intake (6.47 vs. 5.61 kg/day; P < 0.01). Despite this higher intake, sows maintained on a cooled floor had higher body weight and body protein losses during the lactation period (P < 0.01) in connection with a higher milk yield and subsequent growth of the litter (2280 vs. 1798 g/day; P < 0.01). There was an effect of treatment on rectal temperature, surface temperatures and respiratory rate (P < 0.01) with lower values in sows submitted to floor cooling. It is concluded that floor cooling under the lactating sow improves its productive and reproductive performance, as well as the performance of its litter.  相似文献

Thirty-seven Holstein and seven crossbred female calves (16.1 ± 4.60 days, and an initial BW of 36.5 ± 3.19) were used to study the effects of conventional (CF) vs enhanced-growth feeding programs (EF) on performance, plasma amino acid (AA) concentrations, and rumen microbial development. After 1 week of adaptation to milk replacer (MR), the CF calves received 4 l/day of MR at 12.5% DM throughout the preweaning period, and the EF calves were offered MR at 18% DM: 6 l/day from 1 to 6 days, 8 l/day from 7 to 26 days, and 4 l/day from 27 days to weaning day (38 days). Calf starter and water were offered ad libitum throughout the study (87 days). Calves fed EF were heavier (P < 0.05) than CF calves at the end of the study (111.7 vs 102.6 ± 1.72 kg, respectively). Until the 27 days, average daily gain (ADG) was greater (P < 0.001) for EF than for CF calves (1.00 vs 0.49 ± 0.061 kg/day, respectively), but it was lower (P < 0.001) from days 27 to 45 of the study (0.32 vs 0.71 ± 0.061 kg/day, respectively), coinciding with the days around weaning. Starter intake was greater (P < 0.001) for CF than for EF calves during the first 45 days of the study (0.60 vs 0.27 ± 0.061 kg/day, respectively) but similar afterwards. As a consequence, EF treatment may have delayed rumen function as suggested by total daily purine derivatives urinary excretion (49.52 vs 33.27 ± 3.095 mmol/day, in CF and EF calves, respectively). Linear regression analyses showed a positive relationship between plasma Trp and Phe concentrations and ADG, and a negative relationship between these two AA and plasma urea concentrations, suggesting that Trp and Phe could be limiting growth in calves fed conventional feeding programs.  相似文献

Insulin is a key hormone of the intermediary metabolism and its early secretion after a meal has a major role in the overall organism glucose sensitivity. Pre absorptive insulin secretion (PAIS) includes a cephalic phase (implicating oro-pharyngeal receptors) and an intestinal phase (implicating gastric and duodenal receptors). Entero-pancreatic (EP) neurons, which originate from the antral and the proximal duodenal intrinsic nervous systems, form varicosities in pancreatic ganglia and islets and may account for the intestinal phase of PAIS. To test this hypothesis, post prandial portal insulin and arterial glucose concentrations were compared in (i) intact pigs (IEP), (ii) pigs with gastric canula, (IEP + GC) and (iii) pigs with gastric canula and surgically interrupted EP neurons (XEP + GC) (n = 8). EP neurons section was achieved by sectioning the connective attachments between the pancreas and the proximal duodenum and the antrum. The test meal (800 ml of glucose 5%) was ingested voluntarily (IEP), or directly introduced into the stomach (IEP + GC, XEP + GC), to discriminate between the cephalic and the intestinal phases of PAIS. PAIS was significantly decreased in IEP + GC compared to IEP (AUC = 59 ± 21.2 vs 18 ± 6.6 μUI/ml/5 min for IEP vs IEP + GC, p = 0.04). PAIS was further nullified in XEP + GC (AUC = − 2 ± 8.1 μUI/ml/5 min). Glycemia was not modified in IEP, IEP + GC or XEP + GC. We conclude that EP neurons are responsible for the intestinal phase of PAIS since it disappeared in XEP + GC.  相似文献

Photoperiod, or the daily sequence of light and dark, has dramatic effects on many physiological systems across animal species. Light patterns alter melatonin secretion profiles and, subsequently, the release profiles and circulating concentrations of several hormones that influence a variety of physiological responses. Although the impact of photoperiod on reproductive processes is perhaps the most common example, it is often the seasonal aspects of ovulation and anestrus that are considered. However, in cattle, the final phase of reproduction, that is, lactation, is significantly influenced by photoperiod. In contrast to short days (SDPP; 8 h light:16 h dark), exposure to long days (LDPP) of 16 to 18 h of light and 6 to 8 h of darkness increases milk yield 2 to 3 kg/d, regardless of the stage of lactation. There is evidence that this LDPP effect is due to increased circulating IGF-I, independent of any effect on GH concentrations. Cows that are housed under SDPP during the dry period have increased mammary growth and produce 3 to 4 kg/d more milk in the subsequent lactation compared with cows on LDPP when dry. While cows are on SDPP, circulating prolactin (PRL) diminishes but expression of PRL receptor increases in mammary, liver, and immune cells. Moreover, PRL signaling pathways within those tissues are affected by photoperiod. Further, replacement of PRL to cows on SDPP partially reverses the effects of SDPP on production in the next lactation. Thus, effects on dry cows are mediated through a PRL-dependent pathway. Before maturity, LDPP improve mammary parenchymal accumulation and lean body growth, which lead to greater yields in the first lactation. The accumulated evidence supports the concept that photoperiod manipulation can be harnessed to improve the efficiency of production across the life cycle of the dairy cow.  相似文献

This study focused on the effects on subsequent reproductive traits of females and development of the current litter as a result of different contact between the rabbit doe and its progeny when a temporary doe–litter separation was used for biostimulation. Immediately after parturition and adjusting to eight young per litter, multiparous Pannon White rabbit does (n = 400) were divided into five groups based on parity, doe condition, and weight of litter and the kits. Rabbits in the control group (C) nursed freely up to weaning at 35 days of age. In the group following local farm practice (F) using a metal-plate for separation, females nursed once a day (8 am to 9 am) for the first 14 days of lactation and freely afterwards. In three biostimulation groups, there was a change from free to once a day nursing before insemination (i.e. controlled nursing at 8, 9 and 10 days) provided with a wire-mesh separation (BW: permits visual, olfactory, and acoustic contact); using a metal-plate for separation (BM: no visual but possible olfactory, acoustic and vibration contact); or with taking the litter with the nest-tray 5 m away from the doe's cage (BN: there is no contact at all) and returning to free nursing just after AI (at 11 days in the morning) up to weaning. The type of separation exerted a significant influence on oestrus and subsequent kindling of does. Comparing C, F, BW, BM and BN groups, sexual receptivity (30.4, 45.4, 24.0, 25.6, 43.0%, respectively; P < 0.05), fertility (74.4, 84.2, 80.8, 80.3, 89.5%; P < 0.05) and kindling rates (71.1, 85.5, 76.9, 77.3, 88.2%, respectively; P < 0.05) improved in F and BN groups. The total number of kits born (10.0, 10.3, 10.5, 10.4, 9.55, respectively; P = 0.392) and kits born alive per litter (9.25, 9.65, 9.59, 9.83, 9.03, respectively; P = 0.607) were not affected, but newborn kit weight was numerically less in the BW group (69.7, 67.5, 65.5, 67.6, 67.3 g, respectively; P = 0.166). Growth rates of current progeny up to weaning were higher and identical in C and BM but less in F and BN groups (27.5, 25.6, 27.1, 27.3, 26.7 g/day, respectively; P = 0.001). However, the total weight of 70-day-old rabbits per doe did not differ significantly (17.51, 17.53, 17.54, 16.81, 15.81 kg, respectively; P = 0.271). On the whole, the production of the F, BM and BN groups was superior to that of the control and BW groups since subsequent kindling results improved without a significant reduction in slaughter rabbits per doe from current litters.  相似文献

This experiment was designed to examine changes in milk fatty acids during fish oil-induced milk fat depression (MFD) and to test the theory that these changes are related to milk fat fluidity. The experiment was divided into three periods: 1) Baseline: all cows (n = 12) received a high fiber diet without fish oil (FO) for 12 days; 2) Treatment: 4 cows/group received the following treatments for 21 days: a) Low fiber diet without FO (LF), b) High fiber diet + FO (HF + FO) and c) Low fiber diet + FO (LF + FO); 3) Post-treatment: cows returned to the baseline diet and were monitored for 12 days. FO was included at 1.6% DM and HF and LF diets had 40 and 26% NDF, respectively. Milk fat content and yield were unchanged by the LF diet, but were reduced by FO diets at both dietary fiber levels and recovered in the post-treatment period. FO diets caused a pronounced reduction in stearic and oleic acid concentrations in milk fat and an equally pronounced increase in trans-18:1 fatty acid concentrations. Milk fat mean melting point (MMP) was correlated with MFD (r = 0.73) and with milk oleic acid concentration (r = − 0.92). The ratio of oleic:stearic in milk fat increased gradually and consistently in response to FO. Trans-C18:1 isomers with double bounds at carbon ≤ 10 increased with greater MFD and those with double bonds at carbon ≥ 11 decreased with greater MFD. Trans-9 cis-11 CLA explained more than 80% of MFD and was strongly correlated with trans-10 C18:1. Maintenance of MMP below 39–40 °C suggests that the mammary gland was able to secrete only milk fat with adequate fluidity and that MFD could be an adaptation mechanism to prevent secretion of milk with higher MMP.  相似文献
