Four Holstein and four Brahman x Hereford heifers about 8 mo of age were used in a study to determine whether breed influences the effects of ambient temperature on concentrations' of prolactin in serum. Two heifers of each breed were stanchioned in each of two environmental chambers at 21 C for 7 d, after which chamber temperatures were changed to 7 or 31 C during 6 h. After 5 d at 7, 21 or 31 C, heifers were injected with 60 micrograms thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH). A switch-back design was used and each heifer was exposed to all treatments. Concentrations of prolactin in serum of heifers during exposure to 7, 21 or 31 C for 5 d were related to ambient temperature (9.0, 20.9 and 29.5 ng/ml, respectively; P less than .001), but the response was not influenced by breed. Heifers of both breeds responded similarly to treatment with TRH, and prolactin in serum increased (P less than .001) within 5 min from 7.0 +/- 3.2 to 45.7 +/- 8.2 ng/ml in heifers at 7 C, from 13.1 +/- 1.6 to 97.2 +/- 9.6 ng/ml in heifers at 21 C and from 18.2 +/- 3.5 to 96.2 +/- 11.3 ng/ml in heifers at 31 C. We conclude that concentrations of prolactin in serum of heifers are positively associated with ambient temperature and that the effects of temperature on basal and TRH-stimulated concentrations of prolactin do not differ significantly between Holstein and Brahman x Hereford heifers. Thus, differences in tolerance to heat were not related to differences in prolactin secretion.  相似文献

Four steers fitted with a ruminal cannula and chronic indwelling catheters in the mesenteric artery, mesenteric vein, hepatic portal vein, hepatic vein, and the right ruminal vein were used to study the absorption and metabolism of VFA from bicarbonate buffers incubated in the temporarily emptied and washed reticulorumen. Portal and hepatic vein blood flows were determined by infusion of p-aminohippurate into the mesenteric vein, and portal VFA fluxes were calibrated by infusion of isovalerate into the ruminal vein. The steers were subjected to four experimental treatments in a Latin square design with four periods within 1 d. The treatments were Control (bicarbonate buffer) and VFA buffers containing 4, 12, or 36 mmol butyrate/kg of buffer, respectively. The acetate content of the buffers was decreased with increasing butyrate to balance the acidity. The butyrate absorption from the rumen was 39, 111, and 300 +/- 4 mmol/h for the three VFA buffers, respectively. The ruminal absorption rates of propionate (260 +/- 12 mmol/h), isobutyrate (11.4 +/- 0.7 mmol/h), and valerate (17.3 +/- 0.7 mmol/h) were not affected by VFA buffers. The portal recovery of butyrate and valerate absorbed from the rumen increased (P < 0.01) with increasing butyrate absorption and reached 52 to 54 +/- 4% with the greatest butyrate absorption. The liver responded to the increased butyrate absorption with a decreasing fractional extraction of propionate and butyrate, and with the greatest butyrate absorption, the splanchnic flux was 22 +/- 1% and 18 +/- 1% of the absorbed propionate and butyrate, respectively. The increased propionate and butyrate release to peripheral tissues was followed by increased (P < 0.05) arterial concentrations of propionate (0.08 +/- 0.01 mmol/kg) and butyrate (0.07 +/- 0.01 mmol/kg). Arterial insulin concentration increased (P = 0.01) with incubation of VFA buffers compared with Control and was numerically greatest with the greatest level of butyrate absorption. We conclude that the capacity to metabolize butyrate by the ruminal epithelium and liver is limited. If butyrate absorption exceeds the metabolic capacity, it affects rumen epithelial and hepatic nutrient metabolism and affects the nutrient supply of peripheral tissues.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to measure the effect of level of feed intake on net amino acid absorption by portal-drained viscera of six beef heifers with catheters in a mesenteric vein, portal vein and iliac artery (Exp. 1) and to evaluate intrajugular infusion of insulin or glucose on amino acid uptake by hind half of four beef steers with catheters in posterior aorta and vena cava (Exp. 2). Experiment 1 was a replicated 3 X 3 Latin square design. Treatments were calculated intakes of 84, 157 or 225 kcal metabolizable energy (ME)/kg.75 live weight. Treatments in Exp. 2 were control (no infusion), insulin infusion (1.4 IU/min for 90 min) and glucose infusion (2.5 mmol/min for 90 min) in that order. Mean live weight of animals +/- SE was 295 +/- 4 kg (Exp. 1) and 345 +/- 15 kg (Exp. 2). The diet used in both experiments was pelleted, 85% concentrate (2.9 Mcal ME/kg dry matter). Blood flow (BF) was measured by dilution of a primed, continuous infusion of para-aminohippuric acid into the mesenteric vein (Exp. 1) or the posterior aorta (Exp. 2). Net uptake or absorption was the product of BF times portal-arterial (Exp. 1) or arteriovenous (Exp. 2) differences in amino acid concentrations in blood. Increased feed intake caused linear (P less than .05) increases in net absorption of several amino acids, including lysine, methionine, leucine and valine (Exp. 1). Variation among twin beef cattle in maintenance energy requirements   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The genetic variation in energy expenditures of cattle at fasting (FHP) and maintenance (MEm) was determined by using 12 pairs of monozygous twins at 20 mo of age. The pairs were of two breed types, eight Angus x Hereford (three steers, five heifers) and four Barzona x Hereford (three steers, one heifer). The heifers were 132 +/- 13 d pregnant at the time of measurement. The pairs were fed at 1.15 x maintenance energy requirements for a minimum of 30 d prior to heat production (HP) measurements in dual indirect respiration calorimetry chambers. The diet fed was cracked corn:alfalfa hay (45:55) with a determined ME of 2.47 +/- .02 Mcal/kg DM. This diet was fed individually for 7 d prior to and during two consecutive 22-h HP measurements. The animals then were fasted for 2 d and fasting heat production measurements (FHP) were made on d 3 and 4 of the fast. Metabolizable energy required for MEm was calculated iteratively by assuming a semi-log relationship between HP and metabolizable energy intake. There were no differences (P greater than .10) in measured energy expenditures due to different breed type. The FHP and efficiency of ME use for MEm (Km) were similar between sexes, although heifers had lower (P less than .025) MEm than steers. Twin pair effects were detected for FHP (P less than .005) and MEm (P less than .05) but not for Km. Broad sense heritability estimates were calculated as the intraclass correlation between members of monozygous twin pairs. Two experiments were conducted to study the effect of the amount and nature of fiber and carbohydrates on nutrient and VFA absorption. Five Large White pigs in each crossover experiment were accustomed to a semisynthetic 14% protein diet containing 6 (LC) or 16% (HC) pure cellulose (Exp. 1) or 22% alfalfa meal (6.3% cellulose, HA) and 22% lactose and 6% pure cellulose (HL; Exp. 2). Each animal was then fitted with catheters in the portal vein and carotid artery and with a flow probe around the portal vein. Eight days after surgery, the absorption of reducing sugars (RS) and amino-N was studied for 12 h and that of VFA for 24 h after intake of a single 800-g meal. The alternate diet was then given for 7 to 10 d and a second series of samplings was performed within the same conditions. In the first experiment, added dietary cellulose decreased efficiency of absorption of RS (LC: 90.4 +/- 7.0%; HC: 81.6 +/- 3.6%) and amino-N (LC: 95.3 +/- 9.1%; HC: 70.3 +/- 2.8%; P less than .05). Daily absorption (24 h) of VFA tended to be larger when the cellulose level rose (LC: 1,184 +/- 85 mmol; HC: 1,429 +/- 216 mmol, NS) and increased (P less than .05) with the length of adaptation (21 to 28 d) to the diet, regardless of cellulose level. In the second experiment, after intake of the alfalfa diet, absorption of RS was high (97.8%), whereas absorption of amino-N (74.3%) and VFA (880 +/- 87 mmol/24 h) were low. Intake of lactose reduced absorption of RS (85.2%), did not alter absorption of N (75.9%) and increased absorption of VFA (1,181 +/- 218 mmol/24 h). Thus, the energy efficiency of the diet was lowered (P less than .05) when cellulose was added to the diet but not when alfalfa meal or lactose were added.  相似文献

Six ruminally and eight bifistulated (ruminal and esophageal) Hereford x Angus heifers were used to determine effects of pregnancy and early lactation on forage intake and utilization under grazing conditions. Three ruminally and three bifistulated heifers were bred (pregnant/lactating; P/L; average calving date was February 11, 1989); remaining heifers served as controls (C). The experiment consisted of three periods (P1 = average of 55 d before parturition; P2 = average of 12 d before parturition; P3 = average of 26 d after parturition). All heifers grazed the same 24-ha Flint Hills range pasture. Dehydrated alfalfa pellets were supplemented at .5% BW/heifer daily prepartum and at .8% BW/heifer daily postpartum. Treatment x period interactions were noted (P less than .10) for forage OM intake, ruminal capacity, indigestible ADF (IADF) fill, and grazing time but not for OM digestibility or IADF passage rate (P greater than .10). In P1 and P3, P/L heifers had greater (P less than .10) forage OM intake than C heifers, whereas no differences were noted (P greater than .10) in P2. Pregnant/lactating heifers spent less time (P less than .10) grazing than did controls in P2 and more time (P less than .10) than controls in P3. Ruminal IADF fill and ruminal capacity, as measured by water fill, tended (P = .14 and .16, respectively) to differ between the two groups in P2. Digestibility of OM was unaffected (P greater than .10) by physiological status, whereas IADF passage rate was greater (P less than .10) in P/L heifers. Only minor differences were noted for the chemical composition of diets selected by the two groups. Ruminal fermentation patterns shifted only slightly; the largest effects were in P3, when P/L heifers had greater (P less than .10) propionate and less (P less than .10) acetate (mol/100 mol) than C heifers. In summary, during the period just before parturition, differences in forage OM intake between P/L and C heifers disappeared, and ruminal fill and capacity tended to be lower for P/L heifers. Intake was 16% greater for P/L than for C heifers during the early postpartum period. Organic matter digestibility was not influenced by physiological status, even though IADF passage rates were greater for P/L heifers.  相似文献

Regulation of pulsatile LH secretion by ovarian steroids in the heifer   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Two experiments were conducted to evaluate relationships among luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol-17 beta (E2) and progesterone secretion during the preovulatory period in the heifer after prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2 alpha)-induced regression of the corpus luteum. A second objective was to elucidate the effects of E2 in regulating LH secretion. In Exp. 1, LH, E2 and progesterone concentrations were determined in serial samples collected during the preovulatory period after PGF2 alpha-induced luteal regression in five Red Angus X Hereford heifers. Progesterone declined to 1 ng/ml by 12 h after the second injection of PGF2 alpha. Frequency of LH pulses increased linearly (P less than .01), whereas no change in amplitude of LH pulses was detected before the preovulatory LH surge. This resulted in a linear increase (P less than .01) in mean LH concentrations. Estradiol also increased in a linear manner (P less than .01), and the rise in E2 was parallel to the increase in mean LH concentrations. In Exp. 2, 12 Angus X Hereford heifers were ovariectomized and administered either 13.5- or 27-cm silastic implants containing E2 at ovariectomy. Four heifers served as nonimplanted controls. Thirty-one days after ovariectomy all heifers were bled at 12-min intervals for 6 h. Frequency of LH pulses declined linearly (P less than .03) while mean LH (P less than .09) and pulse amplitude (P less than .01) increased linearly as E2 dose increased. The effects of superovulatory treatment (FSH-P vs human menopausal gonadotropin, HMG) and of route of administration (i.m. vs. i.v.) of prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2 alpha) on hormonal profiles were determined in 32 Angus x Hereford heifers. Heifers were superstimulated with either FSH-P (total of 26 mg) or HMG (total of 1,050 IU) beginning on d 9 to 12 of an estrous cycle and PGF2 alpha (40 mg) was administered at 60 and 72 h after the beginning of superovulatory treatments. Heifers were artificially inseminated three times at 12-h intervals beginning 48 h after PGF2 alpha treatment. Blood serum samples were collected immediately before treatments began, at 12-h intervals during the first 60 h, each 4 h during the next 96 h, and each 12 h until day of embryo collection. Concentrations of LH and FSH were not affected by hormone treatments, route of PGF2 alpha injection, or interactions between them. Estradiol-17 beta (E2-17 beta) levels were higher (P less than .05) in HMG- than in FSH-P-treated heifers 60 h after gonadotropin treatment. Peak concentration of E2-17 beta occurred earlier (P less than .05) in HMG- than in FSH-P-treated heifers and earlier in heifers injected with PGF2 alpha i.m. than in those injected i.v. Progesterone concentrations were not influenced by treatment or route of PGF2 alpha administration, but were affected (P less than .01) by the interactions between treatment and route of PGF2 alpha administration. The purpose of these studies was to investigate the pattern and timing of preovulatory endocrine events, estrus and ovulation in Brahman X Hereford (F1) heifers synchronized with norgestomet and estradiol valerate. In Exp. 1, 66 nulliparous and 191 primiparous Brahman X Hereford (F1) heifers were used to estimate the interval from norgestomet implant removal to onset of estrus. The mean interval from implant removal to onset of estrus was 29.8 +/- .5 h, with 80.9% exhibiting estrus within 48 h. Endocrine and reproductive characteristics were examined in detail during Exp. 2 with 37 primiparous heifers. Continuous observation for estrus, 6-h or 2-h blood sampling and ovarian palpation per rectum were employed. All animals were artificially inseminated 48 h after implant removal. Mean interval from implant removal to onset of estrus and to onset of the luteinizing hormone (LH) surge were closely related (r = .91; P less than .0001). Mean intervals from implant removal to ovulation, onset of estrus to ovulation and onset of LH surge to ovulation were 59.1 +/- 2.5 h, 23.3 +/- 1.4 h and 23.1 +/- 1.6 h, respectively. Approximately 73% of heifers exhibited estrus within 54 h after implant removal (optimal timing); conception rate was 59.3% in this subgroup. Conception rate of heifers that did not exhibit estrus within 54 h after implant removal or exhibited an LH surge later than 12 h after estrus (delayed timing) was 10%. Assessment of plasma estradiol-17 beta concentrations suggested that retarded selection and(or) maturation of the preovulatory follicle following implant removal delayed estrus and lowered conception in up to 28% of females timed-inseminated at 48 h.  相似文献

Four Holstein steers (mean body weight, 211 +/- 20 kg) were utilized in a Latin-square design with a 2 X 2 factorial arrangement of treatments to investigate the effects of monensin (0 or 220 mg/d) and sodium propionate (0 or 450 g/d) on net nutrient flux. Steers were surgically prepared with hepatic portal and mesenteric venous catheters and an elevated carotid artery, after which they were adjusted to their basal diet (85% concentrate) and initial treatment over 19 d. Samples of arterial and portal venous blood were taken hourly over 3 h for the final 3 d of each 2-wk period. Portal blood flow was determined by primed continuous infusion of para-aminohippurate. No changes were seen in dry matter intake, portal blood flow, or net portal flux of any of the volatile fatty acids with the exception of butyrate flux, which decreased with monensin addition. Addition of monensin decreased net portal flux of ammonia, decreased recycling of urea, and tended to increase the net portal flux of glucose. Addition of sodium propionate increased the net portal flux of glucose and decreased the net portal flux of alpha-amino-N. These results are interpreted to suggest that changes in the products of ruminal fermentation may not be exactly translated into the products appearing in the portal circulation, and more information is needed to describe these relationships.  相似文献

Five Large White pigs of 62.2 +/- 1.4 kg mean body weight were fitted with permanent catheters in the portal vein and carotid artery and with an electromagnetic flow probe around the portal vein to study the absorption of volatile fatty acids (VFA) by measuring the concentration of these metabolites in hourly blood samples, and by determining the portal blood flow rate for a period of 12 h after intake of a single 800-g meal (6% crude fiber) preceded by 12 or 24 h of fasting. The portal concentration of VFA mixture always highly exceeded the arterial concentration. The arterial concentrations of propionic, butyric, valeric and isovaleric acids were nearly null, accounting for an almost complete uptake of these VFA by the liver. Acetic acid also was taken up, but to a lesser extent. Total VFA absorption during 12 h was 64% higher (P less than .05) after 12 h (1,160 +/- 100 mmol/12 h) than after 24 h of preprandial fasting (740 +/- 83 mmol/12 h). It increased after the meal (P less than .05) from 82.3 +/- 7.8 mmol/h between the first and fourth hour to 107.8 +/- 7.5 mmol/h between the fifth and tenth hour when the preprandial fasting lasted 12 h; a nonsignificant increase also was found when fasting prior to the meal lasted 24 h. The composition of the VFA mixture was not modified by the length of preprandial fasting. The objective of this study was to determine primiparous heifer performance following three different heifer development strategies that were the result of timed nutrient limitation. Two hundred eighty-two spring-born MARC III heifers were weaned at 203+/-1 d of age and 205+/-1 kg BW. The experiment was conducted on two calf crops with 120 heifers born in 1996 and 162 heifers born in 1997. Treatments consisted of different quantities of the same diet being offered for a 205-d period. Heifers in the HIGH treatment were offered 263 kcal ME/(BWkg)0.75 daily. Heifers in the MEDIUM treatment were offered 238 kcal ME/(BWkg)0.75 daily. Heifers in the LOW-HIGH treatment were offered 157 kcal ME/(BWkg)0.75 daily the first 83 d and 277 kcal ME/(BWkg)0.75 daily for the remainder of the 205 d. Treatments differed in total ME intake (P < 0.001); heifers on the HIGH treatment consumed 3,072+/-59 Mcal/heifer, those on the MEDIUM treatment consumed 2,854+/-21 Mcal/heifer, and those on the LOW-HIGH treatment consumed 2,652+/-19 Mcal/ heifer. At the beginning of breeding, heifers on the HIGH treatment were taller at the hips (P = 0.01) and weighed more (P < 0.001) than heifers in the other two treatments. The percentage of heifers that calved expressed as a fraction of the cows exposed did not differ among treatments (89.7%; P = 0.83). The age of heifer at parturition (P = 0.74) and the time from first bull exposure to calving (P = 0.38) did not differ among treatments. Birth weight of calves (P = 0.80) and the calves' weaning weight (P = 0.60) did not differ among the treatments. Calf survival rate on the LOW-HIGH treatment (73%) was lower than that on the moderate treatment (89%; P = 0.007) but did not differ from that on the HIGH treatment (81%; P = 0.26). The second-calf pregnancy rate (92.8%) for cows with a nursing calf at the start of breeding did not differ between treatments (P = 0.83). These findings suggest that as long as heifers are growing and meet a minimal BW before mating, patterns of growth may be altered in the post-weaning period without a decrease in the ability of the heifer to conceive or a decrease in calf growth potential. However, limit-feeding heifers may decrease first-calf survival. These alterations in postweaning gain through monitoring the amount of feed offered can be used to optimize feed resources.  相似文献

旨在采用消化试验研究后备母牛日粮植物源磷进食量与磷表观消化率的关系。试验选用体况良好、体重一致的西杂后备母牛[西门塔尔牛(♂)×中国黄牛(♀)]24头,随机分为6组,即试验1组、2组、3组、4组、5组和6组,每组4头,分别定量(3.50kg/d)饲喂6种不同磷水平的精料日粮,粗料(青贮)自由采食。使用麸皮调节日粮精料磷水平,各试验组精料磷水平分别为0.36%、0.40%、0.42%、0.46%、0.50%和0.54%;总试验期为30d,预饲期20d后进入正试期,试验最后7d全收集粪样和尿样。饲料样及粪样均测定其中磷和干物质含量,计算粪磷排泄量与日粮磷进食量的回归关系。结果表明,不同日粮处理间消化道磷的表观消化量和表观消化率有显著差异(P<0.05),并随进食磷量的增加而增加,但消化道表观消化的磷量与磷的进食不是直线关系,而是呈现抛物线关系,在日粮磷水平为0.42%时,消化量和消化率达最大,即分别为10.5g/d和40.8%。  相似文献

Observations of 3,029 matings over 17 yr on an Ozark upland range were used to estimate heritability of pregnancy rate in Angus, Hereford and Polled Hereford cows. Pregnancy rate, the percentage of cows exposed that produced a live calf in the spring, was transformed using the empirical logit transformation and then analyzed for each breed separately by weighted least squares using a mixed model procedure. A numerator relationship matrix for sires of cows was incorporated into the sire model to account for relationships among sires. Variation among years significantly affected pregnancy rate in all three breeds. Age of dam significantly affected pregnancy rate in the Angus and Hereford groups. Paternal half-sib estimates of heritability from the observed binary data (h2b) for pregnancy rate were calculated on first-calf heifers and mature cows for each breed. Respective h2b estimates for heifers and mature cows were .17 and .09 in the Angus group, .04 and .01 in the Hereford group and .05 and .05 in the Polled Hereford group. The heritability estimates when binary records were transformed to the probit scale (h2) were .04 +/- .003 and .02 +/- .001 for Angus, .01 +/- .002 and 0 for Hereford and .01 +/- .001 and .02 +/- .001 for Polled Hereford for heifers and mature cows, respectively. Heritability estimates in this study are in agreement with the literature, indicating little opportunity for improvement in pregnancy rate by selection within a breed.  相似文献

The hepatic portal veins of cockerels were catheterised to study the effects of 3-h infusions of nutrient solutions on voluntary food intake. An amino acid mixture, infused at rates up to 800 mg N/3 h, depressed intake of a standard diet in a significant linear manner (intakes with the highest dose and control: 1.6 g and 22.6 g/3 h respectively). Infusion of the highest dose into the jugular vein had a smaller and nonsignificant effect (17.2 and 25.3 g/3 h). The effects of combined infusion of amino acids and glucose into the portal vein on food intake were approximately additive.  相似文献

Seven Meat Animal Research Center (MARC) III heifers (410+/-25 kg) fitted with hepatic portal, mesenteric venous, carotid catheters, and an abomasal cannula were used in a 7 x 5 incomplete Latin square design experiment. The objective was to evaluate the effects of increasing levels of ruminally degradable N (RDN) with or without the addition of abomasally infused casein on portal-drained visceral (PDV) flux of nutrients. Treatments consisted of dietary CP percentage levels of 9.5 (control), control plus .72% dietary urea (11.5U), control plus 1.44% dietary urea (13.5U), control plus abomasally infused casein (250 g/d; 11.5C), or control plus .72% dietary urea and abomasally infused casein (250 g/d; 13.5UC). All diets contained (DM basis) 80% ground corn, 15% corn silage, and 5% dry supplement and were provided for ad libitum consumption. Nitrogen intake increased (linear, P < .001) as CP increased from 9.5 to 13.5%. Portal-drained visceral release of ammonia N increased (linear, P < .10) as RDN increased, and was greater (P < .05) when protein was fed compared with heifers fed control (P < .10). Urea N removal by PDV was not affected ( P > . 10) by level of RDN but was greatest when 11.5C was fed and least when 13.5UC was fed. Net alpha-amino N (AAN) release by PDV was greatest when 13.5UC was fed (309 mmol/h), least when 9.5% CP was fed (112 mmol/h), and intermediate for the other groups (205 to 252 mmol/h). These data suggest that removal of N by the PDV may promote microbial protein synthesis when dietary RDN is low. When RDN needs have been met and amino acids are deficient for the host, escape protein should be fed to increase amino acid absorption.  相似文献

The effect of two dietary electrolyte balance (dEB, Na+ + K+ - Cl-) levels on arterial and portal blood oxygen content, blood pH, and acid-base status in pigs was studied during a 9-h period after a meal, using a crossover experimental design. The dEB levels were established by changing the Cl- level in the diets. Four pigs with a mean weight of 45 kg were surgically fitted with catheters in the carotid artery and portal vein. Two dEB levels (-100 and 200 mEq/kg) were evaluated in two periods of 1 wk each. Feed was given at 2.6 times the maintenance requirement for energy in two meals per day. Water was freely available. Blood samples were taken at 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 9 h after feeding. Blood hemoglobin; O2 pressure; O2 saturation; O2 content; pH; PCO2; HCO3-; base excess; and Na+, K+, and Cl- contents were measured. Oxygen contents in arterial and portal blood were lower (P < 0.008) in the -100 mEq/kg group (5.78 and 4.82 mmol/L respectively) compared to the 200 mEq/kg group (6.18 and 4.99 mmol/L respectively). This was related to the lower hemoglobin content in the blood of animals in the -100 mEq/kg group. Arterial and portal blood pH were lower (P < 0.003) at -100 mEq/kg (7.46 and 7.37) than at 200 mEq/kg (7.49 and 7.43). The difference in blood pH between the two groups was sustained throughout the sampling period. The average values of arterial and portal blood for base excess and HCO3- content were higher (P < 0.001) at high dEB (6.96 and 31.0 mmol/L, respectively, for -100 mEq/kg and 12.54 and 35.9 mmol/ L, respectively, for 200 mEq/kg). The Na+ concentration in the blood was increased and K+ and Cl- concentrations were decreased (P < 0.02) by increasing dEB from -100 mEq/kg to 200 mEq/kg. Blood electrolyte balance level was higher (P < 0.001) in the 200 mEq/kg dEB group than in the -100 mEq/kg dEB group. In conclusion, dEB changed blood oxygen content and pH, and influenced the acid-base buffer system in pigs. Also, within each group, pigs maintained a relatively constant blood pH level during the 9-h period after feeding.  相似文献

Effects of increased ammonia and/or arginine absorption across the portal-drained viscera (PDV) on net splanchnic (PDV and liver) metabolism of nitrogenous compounds and urinary N excretion were investigated in six catheterized Hereford x Angus steers (501 +/- 1 kg BW) fed a 75% alfalfa:25% (as-fed basis) corn-soybean meal diet (0.523 MJ of ME/[kg BW(0.75).d]) every 2 h without (27.0 g of N/kg of dietary DM) and with 20 g of urea/kg of dietary DM (35.7 g of N/kg of dietary DM) in a split-plot design. Net splanchnic flux measurements were obtained immediately before beginning and ending a 72-h mesenteric vein infusion of L-arginine (15 mmol/h). For 3 d before and during arginine infusion, daily urine voided was measured and analyzed for N composition. Feeding urea increased PDV absorption (P < 0.01) and hepatic removal (P < 0.01) of ammonia N, accounting for 80% of increased hepatic urea N output (P < 0.01). Numerical increases in net hepatic removal of AA N could account for the remaining portion of increased hepatic urea N output. Arginine infusion increased hepatic arginine removal (P < 0.01) and hepatic urea N output (P < 0.03) and switched hepatic ornithine flux from net uptake to net output (P < 0.01), but numerical changes in net hepatic removal of ammonia and AA N could not account fully for the increase in hepatic urea N output. Increases in urine N excretion equaled quantities of N fed as urea or infused as arginine. Estimated salivary urea N excretion was not changed by either treatment. Urea cycle regulation occurs via a complex interaction of mechanisms and requires N sources other than ammonia, but the effect of increased ammonia absorption on hepatic catabolism of individual AA in the present study was not significant.  相似文献

The kinetics of appearance of various nutrients in the portal vein during the postprandial period was studied in conscious pigs by means of a technique based on measurement of the porto-arterial differences in nutrient concentrations simultaneously with that of the portal blood flow rate. The rate and level of appearance of sugars in the portal vein varied with the carbohydrate ingested. It was very rapid after intake of glucose and sucrose, slower after that of maize starch and very slow after that of lactose. The absorption of the latter became very rapid again if it was hydrolysed prior to its ingestion. During absorption, some sugars (fructose or galactose) released from the corresponding sucrose and lactose, respectively during digestion, were partly metabolized into glucose by the enterocyte. The rate of absorption of amino acids released in the digestive tract varied according to the origin of the food ingested, i.e. it was more rapid after intake of wheat or fish proteins than after that of barley. In the case of barley the absorption rate of amino acids differed from that of glucose of the starch. The profile of the amino acid mixtures appearing in the portal vein during absorption differed a little from the profiles of those present in the ingested proteins in the case of essential amino acids and differed much in the case of non essential amino acids. Some essential amino acids (histidine, aromatic amino acids) appeared more rapidly and others more slowly, (lysine, sulphur amino acids, arginine). Because of transaminations, only small amounts of glutamic acid occurred in the portal vein whereas the amounts of alanine as compared to those ingested, were very large. The hierarchy of amino acid absorption was the same whatever the protein studied (fish, wheat, barley). The appearance in the portal vein of alpha-amino nitrogen from enzyme hydrolysates perfused through the duodenum was more rapid than after perfusion of a mixture of free amino acids. During digestion of diets containing 6% cellulose, large amounts of volatile fatty acids (about 2200 mmol/24 h, i.e. 2500 kJ/24h) and lactic acid (60-85 g/24 h) appeared in the portal vein.  相似文献

Three multiparous Holstein cows (607 kg of BW) were surgically prepared with an elevated carotid artery and indwelling catheters in the hepatic, portal, and two mesenteric veins to study the effects of methionine supplementation on amino acid metabolism during the last 2 wk of pregnancy. The study began 15 d before the expected calving date. Dietary treatments were Control (1.53 Mcal NE(l)/kg, 15.6% CP, and 40% ruminally undegradable protein) and Control supplemented with 60 g/d of ruminally protected methionine (MET, supplying 39 g/d of DL-methionine and approximately 18 g/d of methionine available for intestinal absorption). Each cow received both dietary treatments in a crossover design. Cows were fed once daily. After 5 d on treatment, a blood flow marker (para-aminohippurate) was infused into a mesenteric vein, and arterial, portal, and hepatic blood samples were obtained at 0, 2, 6, 12, and 18 h after feeding. Net flux of methionine was calculated as the plasma arteriovenous difference multiplied by plasma flow. Dry matter intake (10.8 kg/d) and portal (824 L/h) and hepatic (995 L/h) plasma flows were not affected (P > .10) by treatment. Arterial plasma concentration of methionine was greater (P = .10) with MET (27.67 microM) than with Control (16.42 microM). Net portal absorption of methionine increased (P = .10) with MET (26.2 g/d) compared with Control (9.5 g/d). The net portal methionine flux was negatively correlated (r = -.59; P < .001) with arterial urea concentrations. Net flux of methionine across splanchnic tissues shifted (P = .06) from a net uptake with Control (4 g/d) to a net output with MET (11 g/d). Therefore, MET increased by 15 g/d the methionine supply to the rest of the body. The net uptake of methionine by splanchnic tissues observed with Control indicated a net mobilization of methionine by peripheral tissues. Results indicate that methionine was the limiting amino acid with Control and that MET was beneficial because it increased methionine supply to peripheral tissues and reduced arterial urea concentrations.  相似文献
