A 12-year-old, intact male, mixed-breed dog was evaluated after surgical removal of a mast cell tumor from the shoulder. Results of laboratory tests were within the reference ranges, but examination of urinary sediment identified epithelial cells of the upper urinary tract and microscopic hematuria. Abdominal ultrasound examination performed after a 12-hour fast identified a simple cyst in the left kidney. The cyst was approximately 26 mm in diameter, was anechoic, and had a thin, slightly hyperechoic wall with distal acoustic enhancement accompanied by dilatation of the caudal papillary duct and renal pelvis (Fig 1). Excretory urography with iopamidola contrast (800 mg/kg IV) confirmed the presence of dilatation of the left renal pelvis and collecting system (Fig 2).  相似文献

Pyonephrosis refers to suppurative destruction of the parenchyma of the kidney with complete or nearly complete loss of renal function. In dogs, nephrectomy is still the most common treatment for pyonephrosis; however, in the present report, a method for percutaneous ultrasound-guided drainage of the renal pelvis in dogs with pyonephrosis that does not require local or general anesthesia was described, and results of the procedure in 2 dogs were reported. Briefly, dogs were positioned in lateral recumbency with the affected side up, and skin overlying the affected kidney was aseptically prepared. The dilated renal pelvis was punctured percutaneously, under ultrasound guidance, with a 22-gauge needle, and a sample of material was obtained for analysis. The needle was then replaced with an IV catheter, and as much pus as possible was removed from the renal collecting system. A povidone iodine solution was then used to lavage the renal pelvis. Ultrasound-guided drainage and lavage of the renal pelvis was repeated daily until the renal pelvis was so small that it could no longer be punctured. Both dogs recovered and were reported by the owners to be healthy after the procedure.  相似文献

Survey radiographs have not accurately identified renal contour or location in nonhuman primates. Excretory urography using 786 to 1193 mg iodinelkg body weight resulted in dense opacification of the renal parenchyma and pelvis. Abdominal compression improved visu- alization of the renal pelvis. Interpretation of the nonhuman primate excretory urogram was compromised by several anatomic characteristics of this animal group. Superimposition of the kidneys on the lateral radiograph limited evaluation of the renal contour. Since the renal pelvis in most species of nonhuman primates does not possess diverticula (as in the dog and cat) or a caliceal system (as in the pig and man), the diagnosis of pyelonephritis or renal mass lesions was difficult. Severe irregularities in the renal contour, size of the renal pelvis, or areas of deficient concentrating ability were identifiable in nonhuman primate excretory urograms, but the diagnosis of small cysts was not possible in smaller nonhuman primates. The presence of a caliceal collecting system in the spider monkey (Ateles sp.) suggests this animal as a potential model for the evaluation of human renal disease.  相似文献

The operative technique of pyelolithotomy for the removal of renal calculi in the dog is described. Three selected cases are used to illustrate its application. Pyelolithotomy may be a better technique than nephrolithotomy for the removal of renal calculi that have enlarged the renal pelvis and proximal ureter outside the confines of the renal parenchyma.  相似文献

Tissues from ureter and renal pelvis of 18 sows naturally (n = 15) and experimentally (n = 3) infected with Actinobaculum suis (former Actinomyces, Eubacterium suis) were studied using light and scanning as well as transmission electron microscopy. The results were compared with the findings from 11 clinically healthy sows as controls. The lesions in both the ureter and renal pelvis of naturally and experimentally infected animals were similar. In severe cases there were necrotizing ureteritis and pyelitis with accumulation of bacterial colonies in some cases. Several superficial epithelial cells were found phagocytosing necrotic debris. In mild cases the main lesions included epithelial cell hyperplasia, desquamation of the superficial epithelial cells and goblet cell metaplasia with intraepithelial cyst formation. The goblet cells were found in the superficial as well as in the intermediate cell layers. Generally, it was observed that severe purulent ureteritis and pyelitis/ pyelonephritis in sows were to be expected only in mixed infection of A. suis with other bacteria. The findings were compared and discussed with the changes in the infected urinary bladder of sows and the alterations induced by urinary tract infection in man.  相似文献

This is one of the first characterizations of channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) leukocytes by enzyme cytochemistry. Leukocytes demonstrated cytoplasmic staining patterns very similar to mammalian leukocytes when stained with acid phosphatase, alpha-naphthyl butyrate esterase, beta-glucuronidase, alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase, Sudan Black B and anti-immunoglobulin specific immunohistochemistry. Lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, and surface immunoglobulin positive (surface Ig+) cells were present in channel catfish renal hematopoietic tissue and spleen and demonstrated distinctive cytoplasmic foci staining patterns, cytoplasmic blushing or cell membrane staining. Monocytes, macrophages, lymphocytes and surface Ig+ cells were present in the thymus. Thymic and splenic cellular organization appeared very similar to these same mammalian tissues. In the thymus, acid phosphatase positive cells were distributed throughout the parenchyma, while alpha-naphthyl butyrate esterase and beta-glucuronidase positive cells were concentrated in the cortex and the medulla, respectively. Surface immunoglobulin positive cells occurred in the cortex. In the spleen, acid phosphatase positive cells were scattered throughout the parenchyma, while alpha-naphthyl butyrate esterase positive cells were scattered throughout the parenchyma and adjacent to splenic arterioles. Beta-glucuronidase and surface immunoglobulin positive cells were restricted to immediately adjacent to splenic arterioles. Sudan Black B positive cells were scattered throughout the parenchyma, while alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase positive cells occurred adjacent to peri-arteriole lymphoid sheaths and appear very similar to mammalian metallophils.  相似文献

Pyelonephritis, in which Staphylococcus intermedius was isolated, was diagnosed in a 4-year-old female Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris altaica). At necropsy, the renal pelvis was dilated with a large amount of purulent exudates. Microscopically, the lesions of renal pelvis and medulla consisted of necrotic foci intermingled primarily with numerous degenerative neutrophils and a few lymphocytes, plasma cells and macrophages. Bacteriology showed the presence of S. intermedius. This is the first report on pyelonephritis associated with S. intermedius in wild felidae.  相似文献

The applicability of ultrasonography was studied in the diagnosis of lesions of the renal pelvis and ureter in 10 dogs. Ultrasonographic findings of processes associated with dilatation and concretion formation in the renal pelvis were described and the differential diagnosis of the lesions was discussed. The authors propose a new classification system for judging processes characterized by dilatation of the renal pelvis. Experience suggests that ultrasonography is an effective procedure in the diagnosis of certain diseases of the upper urinary tract in dogs.  相似文献

An intramedullary space-occupying lesion in the form of an epidermoid cyst was diagnosed in a one-and-a-half-year-old flat-coated retriever. Dorsal laminectomy and durotomy were performed in order to establish the diagnosis followed by excision of one third of the cyst. The remaining cystic tissue that was intimately attached to the spinal cord parenchyma was left in place in order to avoid further damage to the nervous tissue. The dog's neurological status improved dramatically after the surgery, but deteriorated four months later due to recurrence of the cyst.  相似文献

The histology and ultrastructure of the urothelium lining the ureter and renal pelvis in sows was examined using light microscopy, and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The epithelium of both the ureter and the renal pelvis were similar and consisted of the basal, the intermediate and the superficial cells. The luminal surface of the superficial cells was characterized by microplicae. Transmission electron microscopy showed that the luminal membrane of these cells showed trilaminar asymmetric unit membrane. Tight junctions linked the lateral parts of the superficial cells, while the intermediate and the basal cells were connected to each other and the basal cells with the basal membrane through desmosomes and hemidesmosomes, respectively. Clusters of mitochondria were observed throughout the urothelium. Unlike that of the basal cells, the Golgi complex and the endoplasmic reticulum were well developed in the superficial and intermediate cells. Lysosomes and vesicles were observed only in the superficial and the intermediate cells. Fine cytoplasmic filaments, although very few in the basal cells, were observed throughout the epithelium. The results are compared and discussed with the findings reported on the urotherlium of other mammalian species and humans.  相似文献

A tumor sized in 2.0x2.0x2.5 cm developed in the cerebellum of a female Beagle was pathologically investigated. Histopathologically, the tumor grew by compression and partially by infiltration into the adjacent cerebellar parenchyma. There were a large number of necrotic lesions and proliferation of collagen fibers. The tumor cells had oval nucleus showing cellular atypia and a high mitotic index. The tumor cells were reacted with vimentin antibody on immunostain. Electron microscopic examination revealed the tumor cells interdigitated with cytoplasmic processus where the desmosomes developed on cell junction. This tumor was diagnosed as anaplastic meningioma, which is rarely observed in dogs.  相似文献

The various parts of the bovine urinary tract, the renal pelvis, the ureter, the urinary bladder, the urethra, the vaginal vestibule and the vulva, were examined for the capacity of the epithelial cells to bind Corynebacterium renale and C. pilosum. C. renale adhered best to the epithelial cells of the vulva, and then to those of the ureter and renal pelvis. C. pilosum also adhered best to the epithelial cells of the vulva, followed by those of the vaginal vestibule. The results indicate that the most important target tissue for these bacteria may be the vulva, and the results correlate with the fact that C. renale frequently causes pyelonephritis and ureteritis, while C. pilosum causes the same diseases less frequently and behaves like normal flora of the vaginal vestibule.  相似文献

Laparoscopic-assisted serial biopsy of the bovine kidney   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A serial renal biopsy with endoscopy was done, using 10 calves and a cow. In 8 of the calves, biopsy materials were collected 3 to 5 times over a period of 15 to 41 days. A laparoscope was inserted into the peritoneal cavity from the center of the right paralumbar fossa through the outer cannula of the trocar. Under laparoscopic observation, the renal parenchyma was collected with the cutting prong of a biopsy needle. Of 34 biopsy attempts, 32 were successful; in 2, there was incomplete penetration of the trocar assembly into the peritoneal cavity. In one instance, the trocar was misguided to the small intestine which was closely adherent to the peritoneum. The error may have been the result of the presence of a persistent blood clot resulting from the preceding biopsy. An immediate saline rinse of the blood clot attached to kidney and the surrounding tissues was effective in preventing such adhesions. The size of the average sample obtained was 1.5 mm in diameter and 16 mm (2 to 40 mm) long. The tissues were collected in 61 times from the 72 insertions of the biopsy needle to the renal tissue. The 11 unsuccessful attempts were caused by bluntness of the cutting parts of the needle. Adverse clinical signs were no observed after the serial biopsy of kidney, except for the presence of blood in he urine persisting for 1 to 5 days. Although a dehydrated blood clot was found in the renal pelvis of one animal at necropsy, any complication such as obstruction of urinary flow was not observed.  相似文献

Stem cell therapy is being special premise for various renal diseases. However, there is limited literature on localization and pathologic and functional effects of allogenic mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in healthy dogs. Two healthy dogs were included in this study. Canine MSCs (cMSCs) were cultured from canine bone marrow and incubated with superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) for in vivo cell tracking via MR imaging. The dogs were given the MSC (3 × 10(6) cells) into a renal artery via femoral artery catheterization. Follow-up serial renal assessments included ultrasonography and MRI, serum chemistry, urine analysis, and renal clearance tests. The dogs were euthanized at days 8 and 35 respectively for histopathologic evaluation of kidney. Strong hypointensity in MRI was detected in the treated renal cortex the day after cMSCs infusion. However they disappeared from MR image by the 8th day. Of the serum chemistry tests, serum hepatic enzymes (ALT, AST) were significantly elevated for one week after cMSCs treatment. Histopathological findings also revealed infiltration of SPIO-containing cells into the parenchyma of kidney. On 35th day, histopathology, glomerular atrophy, tubular necrosis, and mineralization were found in the subcapsular cortex, with fibrosis of the interstitial tissues. In vivo MRI studies of stem cells were useful in determining the sequential location of stem cells in the renal parenchyma of healthy dogs. Allogenic stem cells administered via renal artery caused inflammation, tubular necrosis, mineralization, and fibrosis without functional complications.  相似文献

A neutered female cat presented with a 9-day history of hyporexia and depression. The referring veterinarian had identified moderate non-regenerative anaemia, haematuria and suspected unilateral obstructive ureterolithiasis. Subsequent ultrasonography revealed moderate distension of the left renal pelvis with echogenic material, ureteral distension and ureterolithiasis. A partial ureteral obstruction was suspected. After 4 days of medical management, there was further distension of the renal pelvis with well-delineated echogenic material and an accumulation of perinephric fluid. A left nephroureterectomy was performed. Renal pelvic rupture with intrapelvic haematoma and retroperitoneal haemorrhage was confirmed by histopathology. Eighteen months following surgery, the cat remained clinically well with normal renal values.  相似文献

A 9-year-old female spayed domestic short-haired cat presented with ureteral obstruction due to a ureteral calculus 4 cm distal to the renal pelvis. Preoperative creatinine was 844 mmol/L. A novel approach to this condition was utilised whereby a flexible endoscope was passed through a hole made in the renal capsule into the renal pelvis and ureter. The calculus was visualised, and the endoscope was removed. A 1.4 mm flexible grasping forceps was introduced into the proximal ureter through the same hole in the renal capsule and the calculus was removed. The creatinine dropped to 282 micromol/L within 2 weeks of surgery. The cat died of apparently unrelated causes several months after surgery.  相似文献

In this report we describe a patient with a solitary renal cyst treated successfully by a single injection of ethanol into the cyst. The sonographic appearance of the cyst changed from a well-defined hypoechoic structure to an ill-defined hyperechoic region. Nephroliths may obstruct the renal pelvis or ureter, predispose to pyelonephritis, or result in compressive injury of the renal parenchyma leading to progressive chronic kidney disease. Indications for removal of nephroliths in dogs include obstruction, recurrent infection, progressive nephrolith enlargement, presence of clinical signs (renal pain), and patients with nephroliths in a solitary functional kidney. The most common indication for removal of upper tract uroliths in cats is ureteral obstruction caused by ureteroliths. Nonobstructive nephroliths in cats are not usually treated unless they move into the ureter resulting in ureteral obstruction.

The treatment approach to nephroliths and ureteroliths is different for dogs versus cats. Surgical removal of nephroliths or ureteroliths by nephrotomy and ureterotomy respectively is associated with potential for complications in more than 30% of cats treated by ureterotomy; therefore, minimally invasive options should also be considered. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) treatment of nephroliths results in small “passable” stone fragments in most dogs, whereas ESWL does not work effectively in cats. Ureteral stents are effective for relief of ureteral obstruction by ureteroliths in both dogs and cats. Ureteral stents may be left in place long-term to relieve ureteral obstruction by ureteroliths. Post-operative morbidity and mortality are substantially lower for ureteral stent placement compared to open surgical ureterotomy in cats.  相似文献

对14例含有磺胺结晶的猪肾脏用10%中性福尔马林固定,常规石蜡切片技术切片染色,对肾脏进行组织病理学观察。结果显示,皮质区肾小管上皮细胞肿胀变性、髄质区肾小管破坏较为严重,大部分肾小管、集合管上皮细胞脱落、变性坏死,并引起梗阻性肾病,同时,肾小球囊腔扩张、血管球萎缩。结果证实,超剂量或长期使用磺胺类药物会严重损害肾实质,导致肾功能下降甚至肾衰竭。  相似文献
