The aim of the present experiment was to screen several biochemical indices in fish and their interrelations in order to select variables for future studies of growth rate and feed conversion. Several parameters [trypsin activity, chymotrypsin activity, free amino acids (FAA) in plasma and white muscle, and RNA and RNA/protein ratio in the white muscle] were measured together with specific growth rate (SGR), feed intake and feed conversion efficiency (FCE) in four groups of diploid or triploid Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) reared under different light regimes. SGR was measured on individually tagged fish, whereas feed intake and feed conversion was estimated on tank basis. A principal component analysis (PCA) explained 80.6% of the variance in the data, using all measured parameters, regardless of ploidy and light regime. Muscle free hydroxyproline showed the highest correlation, alone explaining 55% of SGR variability. The SGR also significantly correlated with trypsin activity (r=0.34), the activity ratio of trypsin to chymotrypsin (T/C) (r=0.39), plasma essential FAA (EAA) (r=0.39), plasma total FAA (TFAA) (r=0.37), the ratio of essential to non-essential FAA (EAA/NEAA) in the white muscle (r=–0.45), muscle RNA (r=–0.45) and RNA/protein ratio (r=–0.41). Tank FCE correlated positively (r=0.97) with SGR, T/C ratio and muscle free hydroxyproline, and negatively (r=–0.90) with muscle EAA/NEAA. The groups reared under continuous light (LL) regime showed significantly higher SGR than simulated natural photoperiod (SNP) groups, and with an apparently higher FCE. A higher growth rate was associated with either a higher consumption rate and/or a higher feed utilization. A negative correlation between muscle RNA concentration and SGR may indicate that increased growth rate under LL regime was not caused by an increased protein deposition rate.  相似文献

In order to investigate how seasonal variation in growth affects selected fillet quality parameters, immature Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) were reared under simulated natural photoperiod (SNP) for 12 months or continuous light (LL) from January to June followed by SNP until December. Photoperiod treatments advanced the growth rate pattern of the LL group compared with the SNP group and influenced macronutrient metabolism, evaluated both as trends in protein and lipid retention and in fillet lipid and protein levels. Good growth was associated with low fillet lipid and protein level, in addition to reduced levels of fillet tocopherol and astaxanthin, indicating increased oxidative stress. Elevated levels of thiobarbituric reactive substances (TBARs) further supported this. Slaughtering during periods of high growth may therefore reduce postmortem quality, both because of increased susceptibility to fillet lipid peroxidation and reduced astaxanthin levels, which were lowered in vivo and might consequently be depleted further after slaughter. Specialized use of antioxidant‐rich feed prior to slaughter is suggested if slaughtering is expected to occur during periods of high growth rate.  相似文献

Protein requirement of silver barb, Puntius gonionotus fingerlings   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Five iso‐energetic (15.05 MJ kg?1) semi‐purified diets with graded levels of crude protein, i.e. 200 (D‐1), 250 (D‐2), 300 (D‐3), 350 (D‐4) and 400 (D‐5) g kg?1 diet were fed to Puntius gonionotus fingerlings (average weight 0.88 ± 0.03 g) in triplicate groups (15 healthy fish per replicate) for a period of 90 days to determine the optimum protein requirement of the fish. Fifteen flow‐through cement tanks of 100‐L capacity with a flow rate of 0.5 L min?1 were used for rearing the fish. Specific growth rate (SGR), food conversion (food gain) ratio (FCR), nutrient digestibility and retention, digestive enzyme activity, RNA : DNA ratio and tissue composition were used as response parameters with respect to dietary protein levels and feed intake. The mean weight gains of fish after 90 days were 10.84 ± 0.27, 11.07 ± 0.12, 14.09 ± 0.20, 11.27 ± 0.12 and 10.91 ± 0.25 g for D‐1, D‐2, D‐3, D‐4 and D‐5, respectively. Maximum SGR (3.13 ± 0.02% per day), RNA : DNA ratio (10.09 ± 0.09), tissue protein content (160 ± 0.1 g kg?1 wet weight), protease activity (25.27 ± 0.47 μg of leucine liberated mg tissue per protein h?1 at 37 °C) and minimum FCR (1.60 ± 0.02) was found in D‐3 group fed with 300 g kg?1 protein level. All these parameters were negatively affected with the further increase in protein level in the diet. Digestibility of protein, lipid and energy was not affected because of variation in dietary protein levels and nitrogen intake of fish. Maximum energy retention (27.68 ± 0.12%) was recorded at 300 g kg?1 dietary crude protein fed group. However, using broken line regression analysis, the maximum growth was found to be at 317.7 g kg?1 dietary protein. Hence, it may be concluded that the protein requirement of P. gonionotus fingerling is 317.7 g kg?1 diet with a resultant P/E ratio of 21.1 g protein MJ?1.  相似文献

Plasma growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), and insulin were measured in two groups of Salmo salar L. during a one-year study. The fish were reared under either a simulated natural photoperiod (SNP) from January to December or a regime of continuous light from January to June, followed by SNP until December (LL/SNP). Plasma GH levels during spring were low, and lower in the LL/SNP fish (< 0.9 ng ml− 1) than in the SNP fish (> 1.9 ng ml− 1), although the LL/SNP grew better (0.8% per day) than the SNP fish (0.5% per day). Plasma IGF-I levels increased transiently from January (64.7 ng ml− 1) to maximum in late September in the LL/SNP (85.8 ng ml− 1) and in November in the SNP group (87.3 ng ml− 1). The ratio GH:IGF-I was lower in the LL/SNP group during spring when this group grew better than the SNP group.  相似文献

Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) were fed with dry feed, in sea net pens from May 2003 to September 2004, under natural conditions occurring in Northern Norway, with a sea temperature varying from 3.3 ° to 16.6 °C. The fish was either fed five times or three times a week, once a day to saturation until December 2003, and after that five times or twice a week, once a day to saturation until September 2004. Fish fed five times a week had a higher FCR 1.47 compared with 1.35 for fish fed three to twice a week for the entire period. No significant differences were found in growth or chemical composition in the cod due to the feeding intervals. The best growth of the fish was in the first summer from May to September 2003 with a specific growth rate (SGR) of 0.81% per day. From June to September 2004, the SGR was 0.42% per day. From December to May, the SGR was negligible caused by low‐water temperature, darkness, and sexual maturation. The liver index increased from 7% to a maximum of 16% during the growth period except during the sexual maturation period from November to April, where it shows a slight decrease. Maturation and seasonal variation are the factors having the largest influence on the growth and chemical composition of the cod.  相似文献

Four experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of feeding frequency on growth of juvenile Atlantic halibut, Hippoglossus hippoglossus L. Fish (22–75 g) fed three (3 ×) or five times per day (5 × day?1) under constant light and temperature (13±1°C) consumed significantly more feed than fish fed 1 × day?1 but by the end of the experiment only fish fed 5 × day?1 were heavier and had greater specific growth rates (SGR). Under simulated winter conditions (9L:15D, 5±1°C), halibut (~300 g) fed every other day consumed more feed, had a greater SGR and final weight compared with fish fed every third day. Feed conversion ratios were not different among treatment groups in any of the experiments. These results suggest that growth rates may be improved by feeding juvenile halibut more than 1 × day?1.  相似文献

A 6‐wk feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of different dietary lipid levels and feeding frequencies on the growth performance, feed utilization, and body composition of juvenile spotted seabass, Lateolabrax maculatus. Two experimental diets were prepared with two different dietary lipid contents, low lipid (7%; LL) and high lipid (14%; HL). Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of fish (5.5 ± 0.01 g) to apparent satiation at three meals per day, two meals per day, one meal per day, and one meal every 2 d, respectively, for 6 wk. Fish growth performance in terms of weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) was significantly affected by frequency of feeding, with increasing values as feeding frequency increased up to twice daily, regardless of dietary lipid content. In addition, fish fed the diet with the HL level (14%) showed significantly higher WG and SGR than those fed the LL diet (7%) at all the feeding frequencies tested. Feed efficiency (FE) and protein efficiency ratio (PER) were affected by both dietary lipid level and feeding frequency. FE and PER values were significantly higher in fish fed the HL diet and/or when fish were fed twice or thrice a day. However, daily feed intake and daily energy intake were significantly affected only by feeding frequency and were significantly reduced when the fish were fed only once every 2 d compared with those fed more frequently. Whole‐body moisture content of fish tended to decrease with increasing dietary lipid level and frequency of feeding. In contrast, whole‐body lipid content increased in fish as dietary lipid level and feeding frequency increased. Consequently, we can conclude that feeding spotted seabass twice daily to apparent satiation is acceptable and sufficient to achieve good growth and FE, as fish performance was not significantly enhanced when feeding was increased from two to three times daily.  相似文献

This study investigates the effects of dietary lipid and protein levels in the growth, feed utilization and body composition of meagre (Argyrosomus regius). Triplicate groups of juvenile fish (23.4 ± 4.9 g average weight ± SD) were fed four isolipidic diets (17.5% crude lipids) containing 40, 45, 50 and 54% of protein, while in a separate experiment, fish (21.8 ± 3.7 g average weight ± SD) were fed four isonitrogenous (50% crude protein, dry matter) each containing 12, 15, 17 or 20% of crude lipids. In the protein requirement experiment, the increase in crude protein in the diet from 40 up to 50% positively affected SGR (Specific growth rate) and FCR (Feed conversion ratio). The increase in crude lipids in the diet from 12 up to 17% showed a tendency for improvement in SGR and FCR. In both experiments, the fastest growing fish exhibited higher lipid depots. Overall, the present investigation showed that juvenile meagre has an estimated protein requirement of 50% and it does not seem to require high dietary lipid levels.  相似文献

Raw undehulled pigeon pea, Cajanus cajan, seeds were processed by toasting, boiling, and soaking before milling to produce pigeon pea meals (PPMs). African catfish, Clarias gariepinus, were fed eight diets formulated with these meals at two dietary inclusion levels of 600 and 650 g/kg in combination with fish waste meal levels of 350 and 330 g/kg, respectively, to yield a protein and energy contents of 35.96 ± 2.1% dry matter and 18.04 ± 0.2 kJ/g. Fish (mean weight 0.46 g) were weighed and distributed to 24 experimental tanks (seven fish per tank). Triplicate fish groups were fed restricted ration (5% of biomass) per day in two portions for 56 d in static water. Results showed that fish groups fed raw PPM diets had low body weight gain (BWG), inferior specific growth rate (SGR), and high feed conversion ratio (FCR) when compared to other feeding groups. The hematocrit, hemoglobin concentration, and red blood cell and white blood cell counts decreased significantly (P < 0.05) with raw PPM diets. Slight decrease also was recorded among groups fed diets of other processing methods when compared with initial fish. However, soaking for 16 h enhanced best fish BWG, SGR, FCR, and hematological values and can be recommended as a good processing method of PPM for African catfish diets.  相似文献

An experiment to determine the optimal protein requirement of grouper Epinephelus coioides juveniles was conducted in floating net cages (1.5 m × 1 m × 1.5 m). Six isoenergetic fishmeal–casein‐based experimental diets containing 350–600 g kg?1 crude protein (CP) were fed to triplicate groups of 20 fish (10.7 ± 0.2 g) for 56 days. Weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) increased with increasing dietary protein level from 350 to 450 g kg?1 and then plateaued above these levels. Feed intake (FI) showed no significant difference among fish fed more than 350 g kg?1 CP. Lowest feed conversion ratio (FCR) was found for fish fed 500 g kg?1 CP but this was not significantly different from that of fish fed the 450 and 600 g kg?1 CP. Lowest protein efficiency ratio (PER) was found for fish fed 550 and 600 g kg?1 CP. Fish fed the 600 g kg?1 CP had the highest body protein and moisture contents but the lowest body lipid content. Body ash content was unaffected by protein level for fish fed >400 g kg?1 CP. Dietary protein level had no significant effect on hepatosomatic index (HSI). Fish fed the 350 g kg?1 CP had significantly lower condition factor (CF) and viscerosomatic index (VSI). Based on broken‐line regression analysis of SGR the optimal dietary protein requirement for E. coioides juveniles was determined to be close to 480 g kg?1.

The present study was undertaken to examine the long-term effect of continuous light and constant temperature and their interaction on growth, feed intake, gill Na+, K+-ATPase (NKA) activity and early sexual maturation in Atlantic salmon pre- and post-smolts. The fish (mean initial weight = 15.9 g ± 0.4 SE) were reared on two photoperiods (continuous light, LL and simulated natural photoperiod, LDN, 60°25′N) and on two constant temperatures (average 8.3 and 12.7 °C) from June to July the following year. This resulted in four experimental groups abbreviated as LL8, LL12, LDN8 and LDN12. Growth in freshwater was highest in the LL12 group and final weight of this group was 70–330 % higher than in the other experimental groups, and our findings further demonstrate that the growth-enhancing effect of continuous light alone corresponds to a 4.5° increase in temperature. Overall, the highest feed intake was registered in the LL12 group, whereas no differences in feed intake or growth were observed between the LL8 and LDN12 groups, and the lowest feed intake and growth in the LDN8 group. Both temperature groups on LL developed peak levels in gill NKA activity in October–November, 4–5 months prior to the natural season for the parr–smolt transformation. Fish at 12 °C showed peak levels in NKA activity 4–6 weeks before the fish on 8 °C. The proportion of mature males was higher at 12.7 °C (66 %) compared to 8.3 °C (11 %). Highest maturation was seen at LL12 (82 %). For the salmon industry, this means that long-term rearing at LL and 12.7 °C will improve growth but also leads to higher maturation proportion. By rearing fish at LL8, it is, however, possible to achieve high growth and low maturation simultaneously.  相似文献

In this experimentation, corn gluten (CG) and pea meal (PM) were tested as potential protein sources in hybrid sturgeon ‘AL’. One hundred and twenty‐eight hybrid sturgeons ‘AL’ (Acipenser naccarii × Acipenser baeri) (initial body weight 364.8 ± 4.5 g) were utilized with four experimental diets and four replicates each; the experimental design was 4 × 4. Four isonitrogenous [crude protein=40% dry matter (DM)] and isoenergetic (gross energy=20 MJ kg?1 DM) diets were formulated containing different levels of CG with or without PM and tested against a control diet that was fish meal (FM) based. Diets were as follows: CG55 contained 55% of corn gluten; diet CG55PM25 contained 55% CG and 25% PM; diet CG45PM25 contained 45% of corn meal and 25% of PM; and diet FM was control, based on FM. Fish fed with the PM diet showed lower values of feed conversion ratio (FCR) and specific growth rate (SGR) (FCR=4.53 ± 2.51 in the CG55PM25 diet; FCR=4.09 ± 1.45 in the CG45PM25 diet; SGR=0.20 ± 0.07 in the CG55PM25 diet; SGR=0.19 ± 0.11 in the CG55PM25 diet). The results of tissue proximate composition confirmed the results obtained from productive traits. This study indicates that CG meal but not PM could be utilized as a substitute of FM in hybrid sturgeon ‘AL’ nutrition.  相似文献

A nutrition trial was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary lipid levels and supplemental Ulva meal on growth performance, feed efficiency, nutrient utilization, and body composition of juvenile Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. Four isonitrogenous (CP 40%) diets containing 0% and 5% Ulva meal were formulated to contain 10% (low-lipid; LL) and 20% (high-lipid; HL) crude lipid. Triplicate groups of fish (~10 g) were fed to apparent satiation three times daily for 16 weeks. Fish fed 5% Ulva meal showed an increased growth performance (P < 0.05) compared with fish fed non-Ulva supplemented diets, irrespective of dietary lipid level. In particular, the incorporation of Ulva meal improved specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), and protein efficiency ratio (PER). Feeding fish 5% Ulva meal diets resulted in significantly lower carcass lipid content. The results indicate that 5% inclusion of Ulva meal at both dietary lipid levels improves growth performance, feed efficiency, nutrient utilization, and body composition of Nile tilapia.  相似文献

The potential of rapeseed protein concentrate as fish meal alternative in diets for rainbow trout (initial average weight 37.8?±?1.4?g) was evaluated. Nine experimental tanks of a freshwater flow-through system were stocked with 12 fish each. Triplicate groups of fish received isonitrogenous (47.9?±?0.5% CP) and isoenergetic (22.4?±?0.2?kJ?g?1) experimental diets with 0, 66 and 100% of fish meal substituted with rapeseed protein concentrate (71.2% CP), thereby providing 0, 29 and 43% of dietary protein. As the amino acid profile of rapeseed protein concentrate was comparable to fish meal, there was no need to supplement experimental diets with synthetic amino acids. At the end of the 84?days of feeding period, fish growth performance, feed intake and feed efficiencies were not compromised, when 100% of fish meal in the control diet was replaced with rapeseed protein concentrate, revealing a SGR of 1.19 or 1.10, a FCR of 1.09 or 1.18 and a feed intake of 78.5 or 74.7?g in fish fed on the control diet or fed the diet devoid of fish meal, respectively. Intestinal morphology did not reveal any histological abnormalities in all dietary groups. Blood parameters including haematocrit and haemoglobin as well as glucose, triglycerides and total protein in the plasma were not different between treatment groups. Thus, the rapeseed protein concentrate tested here has great potential as an alternative to fish meal in rainbow trout diets.  相似文献

A 12‐week feeding trial was conducted using Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.) to evaluate the interactive effects of fishmeal replacement and salinity on growth, feed utilization efficiencies and relative expression of growth related genes. Two iso‐nitrogenous and iso‐energetic diets were prepared (32% protein). The control diet included 15% fishmeal (FM diet) and fishmeal component in non‐fishmeal diet (NFM) was eliminated by a mixture of poultry by‐product meal, high protein distillers dried grains and distillers dried grains with soluble. The NFM diet was supplemented with DL‐methionine and L‐lysine. Duplicated group of fish with initial mean weight of 6 g, reared in four salinity levels (0, 4, 8 and 12 g/L) were fed one of the two diets twice a day to near satiety. At the end of the experiment, growth, feed utilization efficiency and expression of growth related genes were compared. The specific growth rate (SGR), mean feed intake (MFI) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were not affected by the diets while salinity effects were significant. The fish in the 4 g/L salinity showed the highest SGR and MFI while fish in the 0 g/L treatment showed the lowest FCR. Relative expression of hepatic IGF‐I and IGF‐II was regulated by salinity but not by the diet. Expression of growth hormone receptor gene was not affected by either diet or salinity. The present findings provide evidence for the possibility of total fishmeal replacement in saline waters (0–12 g/L) without compromising growth, feed utilization and body composition of Nile tilapia.  相似文献

The combined effect of temperature and photoperiod on the growth of juvenile Atlantic halibut Hippoglossus hippoglossus (initial weight 11.6 g) was investigated under different temperature (6 °C and 12 °C) and photoperiod (continuous light and simulated natural photoperiod) combinations by studying the effects on fish weight, specific growth rate (SGR), feed consumption (F%), feed conversion (FCE) and oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion under routine and fasting conditions. SGR was greater at the higher temperature, and growth was faster under continuous light than under natural photoperiod, irrespective of temperature, SGRs being 0.83% and 0.98%, and 1.61% and 1.71% at 6 °C and 12 °C respectively. The weight data revealed a significant interaction between temperature and light, and provided evidence of a stronger growth‐enhancing effect of continuous light at the lower temperature. F% increased with temperature but was independent of photoperiod, whereas FCE was higher among fish exposed to continuous light, irrespective of temperature. Independently of photoperiod, oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion increased with temperature, but the differences in these rates in relation to photoperiod became more pronounced at the lower temperature, where continuous light gave the highest rates. Higher oxygen consumption during darkness suggested that light may suppress activity in halibut. It was proposed that reduced activity and anabolic effects of photoperiod contribute to explain the increased growth and growth efficiency in fish subjected to continuous light.  相似文献

Growth, feed intake and maturation were monitored in a fast‐growing benthivore morph of European whitefish [Coregonus lavaretus (L.)] held under constant light (LD 24:0) and temperature conditions (10°C) for 415 days. Their growth was best described by polynomial regression model and no indication of seasonal patterns (e.g. winter depression) in growth rates was found. There was no significant difference in food conversion ratio (FCR) between periods during the experiment and the FCR was favourable (0.84). Furthermore, there were no differences in growth between males and females. None of the fish became sexually mature by the time the experiment was terminated, although they had reached a mean size of about 444 g. The European whitefish seems to be a promising aquaculture species as the growth rate was relatively high with a remarkable homogenous growth performance between individual fish within each experimental unit, a relatively favourable FCR, a low degree of agonistic behaviour and negligible growth depression due to internal biological rhythms or gonad maturation. These results were obtained at relatively low temperatures that should be beneficial for sustainable cost‐effective farming conditions in cold climate condition in northern Scandinavia.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to reveal possible interactive effects of temperature and photoperiod on somatic and skeletal growth, feed conversion, organ indexes and blood chemistry in Atlantic salmon postsmolts. A total of 1140 (initial mean weight 96.0 g ± 3.1 SEM) juvenile Atlantic salmon reared in seawater were in duplicates exposed to six different combinations of temperatures (4.3, 6.5 or 9.3 °C) and photoperiods (continuous light, LL or simulated natural photoperiod (69ºN), LDN) for 124 days. An interactive effect of photoperiod and temperature on somatic growth was found as the fish exposed to low temperature and continuous light regime (4LL) had a significantly higher growth (30 % gain in overall SGR) than the 4LDN group, corresponding to the effect of approx. 1.2 °C temperature increase. Fish in the 6 and 9 °C groups did not show any significant growth benefit of continuous light. Compared to the 4LDN group, the 4LL group showed higher total feed conversion efficiency, lower levels of blood Na+ and lower hepato-somatic and cardio-somatic indexes. In the skeleton, cervical vertebra were largest in the 4LL group, while the length of the head was largest in the 4LDN group, continuous light promotes growth at lower temperatures while supporting a normal development. It is suggested that a considerable growth benefit may be achieved by exposing juvenile Atlantic salmon to continuous light when reared at low (in this trial 4.3 °C) water temperature during winter.  相似文献

An 8-week growth trial was conducted to assess the effect of dietary protein on growth, feed utilization, protein retention efficiency, and body composition of young Heteropneustes fossilis (10.02 ± 0.09 g; 9.93 ± 0.07 cm). Isocaloric (4.15 kcal g−1, GE) diets with varying levels of protein (25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50% of the diet) were fed near to satiation to triplicate groups of fish. Optimum dietary protein was determined by analyzing live weight gain (LWG%), feed conversion ratio (FCR), protein efficiency ratio (PER), specific growth rate (SGR%), and protein retention efficiency (PRE%) data. Maximum LWG% (167), best FCR (1.42), PER (1.75), SGR (1.76), and PRE (31.7%) were evident in fish fed 40% protein diet (Diet 4). Body protein data also supported the above level. However, second-degree polynomial regression analysis of the above data indicated that inclusion of dietary protein in the range of 40–43% is optimum for the growth of young H. fossilis.  相似文献
