Passive cutaneous anaphylaxis was produced in chickens with bovine serum albumin (BSA) and anti-BSA chicken serum. Colloidal carbon was then given intravenously to identify the leaky vessels. Examination of the resulting sequential changes revealed a marked increase in vascular permeability affecting the venules. A noteworthy feature of the reaction was the early participation of the basophils, which contained phagocytosed carbon particles. Eosinophils were absent.  相似文献

Twenty-four tenorrhaphies were performed at the mid-metatarsal region in 12 crossbred calves under xylazine-ketamine spinal analgesia. A 2.5-cm long gap was created in the superficial digital flexor (SDF) tendon and immediately repaired with carbon fibres in the animals of group I and with plasma-preserved tendon allografts in group II. Clinical examination revealed a slight increase (P > 0.05) in rectal temperature, heart and respiratory rate for 2-4 days postoperation in both groups. Milder pain and exudation as well as earlier restoration of tendon gliding movements and weight bearing were observed in group I as compared to group II. Air-tendogram in the carbon fibre group on day 30 revealed restoration of continuity across the defect of the tendon. whereas, in the allograft group, a dense homogeneous swelling was seen along the flexors. Regression of peritendinous adhesions and swelling at the reconstructed site at later stages was seen in both groups. Angiography showed hypervascularization at the reconstructed site on day 14 in the carbon fibre group, however, in the allograft group the site appeared to be relatively avascular. On days 30 and 90, blood vessels were normally organized in both groups.  相似文献

An 11-yr-old female cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) was diagnosed clinically with hepatic and renal disease and euthanatized after an extended illness. Postmortem examination revealed 8-10 L of milky white fluid in the abdominal cavity and markedly dilated lymphatic vessels within the intestinal mesentery. The abdominal fluid was a chylous effusion based on the cytologic predominance of lymphocytes and macrophages and comparison of cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the fluid and in serum. Gross and histopathologic lesions in the liver were consistent with a diagnosis of venoocclusive liver disease. Chylous ascites is uncommon with human chronic liver disease and is rarely identified in animals.  相似文献

Three cases of pustular psoriaform dermatitis (pityriasis rosea) in pigs were clinically and histopathologically examined. Grossly, the affected skin was characterized by multiple, circumscribed lesions. Three pigs were the descendants derived from the same Landrace boar. Skin lesions expanded centrifugally to became ring-shaped plaques. There were no abnormal values in hematological and serum biochemical profiles. Histopathologically, the epidermis showed remarkable thickening. The dermal lesions were characterized by a prominent component of superficial and deep perivascular infiltration of eosinophils. Dilatation of microvasculature was accompanied with congested vessels. These results revealed that the etiology of pustular psoriaform dermatitis in pigs was associated with a hereditary predisposition derived from the specific boars. This dermatosis is histopathologically characterized by microcirculatory disturbances with infiltration of abundant eosinophils.  相似文献

A model of chronic pancreatitis was developed and characterized in the dog. Pancreatitis was produced by infusion of oleic acid through a cannula in the accessory pancreatic duct. Biochemical changes included early and marked increases in serum amylase and lipase activities which returned to base line within 3 weeks, at which time the dogs were clinically normal. In dogs euthanatized within 2 weeks, pathologic changes included massive necrosis and hemorrhage, cystic spaces filled with fluid, and abscesses. Histologic features revealed acute exudative pancreatitis with pancreatic atrophy and fibrosis. In dogs killed between weeks 3 to 12, changes included: marked atrophy with remaining acini surrounded by remnants consisting of collapsed stroma, blood vessels, and pancreatic ducts; marked coarse fibrosis with scattered inflammatory cells and occasional acinar tissue; and large irregular pseudocysts.  相似文献

A 9-month-old intact male American cocker spaniel was referred because of hepatomegaly and ascites. Ultrasonographic evaluation of the liver revealed congestion and increased parenchymal echogenicity with focal and more hyperechoic nodules. Histopathology of the hepatic lesion revealed diffuse, ill-defined vascular proliferation. A single layer of endothelial cells, which showed signs of minimal cellular atypia, lined the irregular vessels. On immunohistochemistry, the proliferative endothelial cells lining the irregular vessels were positive for an antiserum to factor VIII related antigen. Based on these findings, the dog was diagnosed with hepatic lymphangiomatosis.  相似文献

A 4-year-old, neutered male domestic shorthair cat presented for evaluation of ataxia and visual deficits. Neurological examination revealed severe cerebellar ataxia with symmetrical hypermetria and spasticity, a coarse whole-body tremor, positional vertical nystagmus, and frequent loss of balance. A menace response was absent bilaterally, and the pupils were widely dilated in room light. A funduscopic examination revealed markedly attenuated to absent retinal vessels and pronounced tapetal hyperreflectivity, findings consistent with end-stage retinal degeneration. Blood work evaluation included retroviral testing, a complete blood count, serum biochemistry analysis, taurine levels, and toxoplasma immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin M titers. All were within reference ranges. The patient was euthanized, and a necropsy was performed. Microscopically, lesions of the nervous system were confined to the cerebellum and were consistent with cerebellar cortical abiotrophy. Selective photoreceptor degeneration was seen on histopathological examination of the retina with a reduction in the number of rods and cones. The combination of clinical findings and histopathological lesions seen here has not been previously reported in the cat.  相似文献

Equine blood may contain salicylic acid (SA) taken up as free acid or represents the metabolite of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA). To obtain information of SA in race horses we screened blood samples of trotting-horses routinely drawn to be analyzed for doping substances. The individual values determined followed a Gaussian distribution displaying a geometric mean of 19 ng SA per ml serum. A probit analysis revealed linear relationship (r = 0.995). Additional studies examined the antithrombotic efficacy of ASA in the horse. An oral dose of 300 mg ASA considerably elevated the bleeding time for more than 2 hours with concomitant SA serum levels between 800 and 1000 ng/ml. It is concluded that salicylate levels even below 1 microgram/ml serum bring about considerable pharmacologic effects such as prolongation of bleeding time, decrease in blood viscosity and possibly dilatation of blood vessels. These effects may improve the tissue supply with blood including oxygen.  相似文献

We investigated retrospectively the morphologic aspects of blood cysts of the atrioventricular valve in eight Beagle dogs and clarified the morphogenesis of the lesions. Study of serial sections revealed that the cysts communicate with the blood vessels; however, they showed no connection with the valve surface. Immunohistochemically, the thin endothelium of the lesions showed positive staining for factor VIII-related antigen. Histologic studies of a variety of sizes of blood cysts revealed four basic stages of blood cyst formation: 1) initially, the involved blood vessel undergoes only a slight enlargement that is not grossly detectable; 2) next, the vessel becomes moderately or markedly dilated and contains a large number of erythrocytes. The changes of this stage are macroscopically detectable; and 3) then, blood flow is arrested partly in the cystic lesion, followed by degeneration and necrosis of the cyst. At this third stage, fibrous tissue or dense collagenous connective tissue is usually seen surrounding the cyst; 4) and finally, metaplastic bone is formed within the lesion. Colloidal carbon infusion into the valves of normal canine hearts revealed the presence of an extensive, dense arrangement of blood vessels in the septal leaflet of the tricuspid valve, which usually is the recognized site to develop blood cysts.  相似文献

The distribution of retinal blood vessels in the eye of buffalo was studied macroscopically and microscopically in twenty-two eyes of healthy animals. After macroscopic observation, 12 of 22 eyes were used for histological study. Ten eyes were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and two eyes with PAS stain. The present findings revealed that the eye of the buffalo was characterized by the complex network of retinal blood vessels (holangiotic or euangiotic). The central retinal artery and vein pierced the eye through the optic disc and gave off several branches. There were four pairs of primary vessels that were named dorsal, ventral, nasal and temporal retinal arteries and veins. The veins anastmosed with each other at the optic disc to form a somewhat circle. Three patterns of the distribution of blood vessels were described. The distribution of the arteries and veins was the same.  相似文献

A 16-yr-old, captive-born, female California sea lion (Zalophus californianus) was evaluated for intermittent lethargy, partial anorexia, and polydipsia of 2 wk duration. The animal was immobilized for physical examination. It was in thin body condition, with multifocal mucosal ulcerations over the caudal and ventral tongue. Blood was collected for hematology, serum chemistry, and leptospirosis serology. Serum chemistry revealed severe azotemia, mild hyperglycemia, and severe hyperphosphatemia. The animal went into cardiac arrest during recovery from anesthesia and died. On histopathology, abundant amorphous, finely fibrillar, eosinophilic material was deposited in the kidneys, and smaller amounts of the same material were found in the splenic and pancreatic vessels; these findings are consistent with systemic secondary amyloidosis. The animal also had chronic nephritis, which, coupled with renal amyloidosis, resulted in renal failure and death. Systemic amyloidosis should be considered as an additional differential diagnosis for renal failure in California sea lions.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of administration of commercially available sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) on carbon 13 (13C) isotopic enrichment of carbon dioxide (CO2) in serum of horses. ANIMALS: 7 healthy Thoroughbreds. PROCEDURES: Sodium bicarbonate (450 g) was administered via nasogastric intubation to horses. Horses had been fed a diet obtained from the same source and had access to water from the same source for 3 months before the study. Blood samples were collected immediately before and at 2, 4, 6, and 24 hours after administration of NaHCO3. The concentration of total CO2 in serum was measured by use of a commercial analyzer. The 13C enrichment of bicarbonate in serum was estimated by measurement of 13C enrichment of CO2 released by acidification of the serum. The 13C enrichment of commercially available NaHCO3 was also determined and compared with that of CO2 in serum of horses before administration of NaHCO3. RESULTS: Commercially available NaHCO3 had a 13C enrichment significantly different from that of carbon dioxide in serum of horses before treatment. Administration of NaHCO3 increased the concentration of total CO2 from pretreatment values. The 13C enrichment of CO2 in serum was only transiently and minimally affected after administration of NaHCO3. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Administration of NaHCO3 was not detected by measuring 13C enrichment of CO2 in serum of horses.  相似文献

This study was investigated the cause of death of two captive adult Arabian tahrs (Arabitragus jayakari) died within 2–3 days after onset of fever and neurologic signs in a private farm in northern Batinah Region of Oman. Blood counting revealed leukocytosis attributed to neutrophilia and serum chemistry showed hypoproteinemia, increased creatine kinase and BUN. Upon autopsy, the animals exhibited mild ascites and hydrothorax, prominent hydropericardium, with large pale-yellow clear fluid coagulum, prominent epicardial petechiation, as well as severe pulmonary edema associated with frothy fluid in airways. Brain edema with congestion of meningeal and parenchymal vessels was prominent. Histopathology revealed severe congestion and edema of both lung and brain as well as cardiac myopathy. Ehrlichia ruminantium colonies (the causative organism of cowdriosis; OIE-listed disease) were demonstrated in the capillary endothelium of fresh brain squash and lung macrophages. This is the first report of natural E. ruminantium infection in Arabian tahr, the highly endangered species, based on typical clinical signs of acute cowdriosis and demonstration of E. ruminantium colonies in the brain capillary endothelial cells.

A dog was examined because of anorexia and development of submandibular, sternal, and forelimb edema. Physical examination revealed engorged jugular veins and engorged blood vessels of the conjunctivae and nictitating membranes. Thoracic radiography revealed pleural and pericardial effusions, later identified as chyle. Aortic onchocercosis due to O. armillata was diagnosed in 45 (41%) out of 109 Sudanese camels. Although the thoracic aorta was regularly affected, involvement of other vessels such as the abdominal aorta, brachiocephalic, pulmonary and costocervical arteries was not excluded. Gross examination of the affected blood vessels revealed tortuous tunnels of parasitic tracks readily visible in the intimal surface of the vessels. Nodular lesions were more common on the adventitia. Microscopically, the lesions showed irregulary elevated intimal surfaces. The underlying tunica media contained a varying number of encapsulated and partially mineralized parasitic fragments. The inflammatory response varied in intensity and location and consisted of eosinophils, lymphocytes, macrophages and occasional giant cells.  相似文献

Hepatic coccidiosis is a frequent disease in rabbits. However, limited information is available pertaining to hematology, biochemistry, and ultrasonography of the liver in naturally infected rabbits. Two young emaciated rabbits presented with diarrhea. Microscopic fecal examination identified ellipsoidal oocysts. Eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, elevated alkaline phosphatase, alanine aminotransferase, globulin, and gamma-glutamyl transferase, and decreased serum albumin, amylase, blood urea nitrogen, and creatinine were detected. Ultrasonography showed mild ascites, an enlarged liver with heterogeneous parenchyma, dilated hepatic blood vessels, and dilated bile ducts. Despite treatment with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and toltrazuril both rabbits died. Necropsy revealed ascites and an enlarged liver with multiple yellowish nodules. Histologically, distended bile ducts almost completely replaced the hepatic parenchyma, and numerous coccidial gametocytes and oocytes were observed. Microscopic fecal examination, hematology, biochemistry, and ultrasonography of the liver can contribute to diagnose of hepatic coccidiosis.  相似文献

Nine 7-month-old Beagle dogs were inoculated with 200 third-stage larvae of Dirofilaria immitis. The development of cardiac disease secondary to heartworm infection was confirmed by thoracic radiography, echocardiography, and angiography with blood pressure measurements. The only indication of renal disease was mild-to-moderate proteinuria. The dogs were euthanatized approximately 18 months after inoculation. The mean microfilarial count in blood at the time of euthanasia was 88,700/ml, with a mean of 89 adult heartworms in the vena cavae, heart, and pulmonary arteries. The kidneys were perfused for microangiographic and correlative histologic examination of the intrarenal microvasculature and associated renal morphologic features. Angiograms of whole kidneys from 6 dogs revealed attenuation or truncation of the major renal vessels. Microangiograms of all kidney slices revealed attenuation in the microangiographic appearance of the glomerular capillaries. Histologic examination of all kidney slices revealed mild-to-intense, diffuse, chronic interstitial nephritis and generalized membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis. Microfilariae were observed within the glomerular capillaries and the medullary vessels. The microangiographic changes correlated with and were explained in part by the histologic changes in the renal parenchyma.  相似文献

A 1-year-old, spayed, female, mixed-breed dog had two reddish-purple cutaneous lesions, one on the right dorsal antebrachium and the other on the right shoulder. The lesions consisted of approximately 13 x 3 cm and 15 x 10 cm, irregular, patchy regions of 0.5-3.0 cm, circular, sometimes raised, reddish-purple swellings resembling ecchymoses. The lesion on the antebrachium had been noticed since the dog was adopted at 6 months of age and appeared to have increased in size over an 11-week period, at which time skin punch biopsy revealed an infiltrative pattern of well-differentiated blood vessels leading to an interpretation that the lesion was a well-differentiated hemangiosarcoma. The second lesion was revealed when the dog had its fur shaved in that area during surgical preparation to excise the antebrachial lesion. No other skin lesions were found on the dog. Microscopically, there was a widely disseminated and infiltrative-like pattern of benign-appearing small blood vessels, which were throughout the superficial and deep dermis and subcutis. Although the disseminated nature suggested malignancy, the histologic appearance of well-differentiated small blood vessels and nonprogressive clinical features indicate that the lesions were benign. The dog has been followed for 6 years and to date has no evidence of progression of the antebrachial lesion or shoulder lesion. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report of a congenital angiomatosis-like lesion in a young dog, with extensive involvement of the forelimb.  相似文献
