Objective – To report successful management of respiratory failure due to severe hypokalemia in a cat with hyperaldosteronism, including short‐term mechanical ventilation strategies and aspects of medical and surgical treatment. Case Summary – A cat presented with bilateral pelvic limb weakness that rapidly progressed to tetraparesis and respiratory muscle failure. Point‐of‐care testing revealed severe hypokalemia (1.9 mmol/L) and mild azotemia. Initial management included endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, and aggressive potassium supplementation. Spironolactone was started due to a high index of suspicion for hyperaldosteronism. A right adrenal mass visualized during abdominal ultrasonographic examination and a serum aldosterone level greater than 3329 pmol/L confirmed the diagnosis. The cat made a full recovery following surgical removal of a right adrenal adenoma. New or Unique Information Provided – We report successful management of respiratory failure in a cat with hyperaldosteronism using short‐term mechanical ventilation. Respiratory failure due to severe hypokalemia should be considered a complication of hyperaldosteronism in cats and may require mechanical ventilation. However, full recovery is possible.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of several drug combinations (atropine, xylazine, romifidine, methotrimeprazine, midazolam, or fentanyl) with ketamine for short term anesthesia in cats. Twelve cats were anesthetized 6 times by using a cross-over Latin square protocol: methotrimeprazine was combined with midazolam, ketamine, and fentanyl; midazolam and ketamine; romifidine and ketamine; and xylazine and ketamine. Atropine was combined with romifidine and ketamine, and xylazine and ketamine. Temperature, heart rate, and respiratory rate decreased in all groups. Apnea occurred in 1 cat treated with methotrimeprazine, romifidine, and ketamine, suggesting that ventilatory support may be necessary when this protocol is used. Emesis occurred in some cats treated with alpha 2-adrenoceptor agonists, and this side effect should be considered when these drugs are used.  相似文献

Objective: This paper characterizes the clinical findings in 5 cats with feline asthma complicated by concurrent pneumothorax. Design: Retrospective study. Medical records of cats with concurrent diagnoses of asthma and pneumothorax that were presented to the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from 1990 to 2000 were reviewed. Results: Of 421 cases of feline asthma, 5 cats fulfilled the inclusion criteria (1.2%). All 5 had respiratory distress at presentation. One cat was panting, and the other 4 cats had respiratory rates of 28, 52, 58 and 120 breaths per minute (bpm), respectively (mean RR 65±39 bpm). Historical findings included untreated chronic cough (n=3), previously treated asthma (n=1), and no previous illness (n=1). Thoracocentesis was performed in 4/5 cats, and 3 of those cats required thoracostomy tubes. Four cats required immediate oxygen supplementation, and 1 of those cats required ventilation. All 5 cats had evidence of pneumothorax on initial radiographs. Follow‐up radiographs revealed partial or complete resolution of pneumothorax in 4 cats which were discharged alive with total hospitalization of 2–7 days, but were then lost to follow‐up. One cat was euthanized because it could not be weaned off mechanical ventilation, and necropsy confirmed end‐stage feline asthma and emphysema. Conclusion: Small airway obstruction can predispose asthma patients to increased alveolar pressure, emphysema, and spontaneous pneumothorax, which can lead to dyspnea in affected cats. The short‐term outcome in these cats was good despite the severity of dyspnea at presentation.  相似文献

Objectives : To describe the surgical technique and to report outcomes in cats with coxofemoral luxation treated with open reduction and toggle rod stabilisation. Methods : Retrospective study of cats with coxofemoral luxation stabilised via the toggle rod method. Short‐term follow‐up included clinical examination and radiographs. Long‐term follow‐up was via owner questionnaire. Results : Fourteen cats were included. All of the cats had reported unilateral craniodorsal hip luxation. Nine cats (64·3%) had additional orthopaedic injuries. Luxations were stabilised with a 3·2‐mm toggle rod (2·7‐mm toggle rod in one cat) and two loops of four‐metric polydioxanone (five‐metric polydioxanone in one cat and three loops of four‐metric polydioxanone in two cats). Success rate, in terms of maintenance of reduction, was 86%. Reluxation occurred in two cats (14%), both of which had multiple limb injuries. Eleven owner questionnaires (mean follow‐up time 15·5 months) reported a functional outcome of “very good” to “excellent”. Although the diameter of the pelvic canal was reduced by the presence of the toggle rod (mean narrowing 16.2%), none of the cats had defaecatory issues. Clinical Significance : Toggle rod stabilisation is an effective method for the treatment of coxofemoral luxation in cats. Injuries to multiple limbs may be a risk factor for reluxation.  相似文献

State‐of‐the‐art health care includes genome sequencing of the patient to identify genetic variants that contribute to either the cause of their malady or variants that can be targeted to improve treatment. The goal was to introduce state‐of‐the‐art health care to cats using genomics and a precision medicine approach. To test the feasibility of a precision medicine approach in domestic cats, a single cat that presented to the University of Missouri, Veterinary Health Center with an undiagnosed neurologic disease was whole‐genome sequenced. The DNA variants from the cat were compared to the DNA variant database produced by the 99 Lives Cat Genome Sequencing Consortium. Approximately 25× genomic coverage was produced for the cat. A predicted p.H441P missense mutation was identified in NPC1, the gene causing Niemann‐Pick type C1 on cat chromosome D3.47456793 caused by an adenine‐to‐cytosine transversion, c.1322A>C. The cat was homozygous for the variant. The variant was not identified in any other 73 domestic and 9 wild felids in the sequence database or 190 additionally genotyped cats of various breeds. The successful effort suggested precision medicine is feasible for cats and other undiagnosed cats may benefit from a genomic analysis approach. The 99 Lives DNA variant database was sufficient but would benefit from additional cat sequences. Other cats with the mutation may be identified and could be introduced as a new biomedical model for NPC1. A genetic test could eliminate the disease variant from the population.  相似文献

J. vet. Pharmacol. Therap.  35 , 580–587. The pharmacokinetics of the extemporaneous combination of low doses of ketamine and propofol, known as ‘ketofol’, frequently used for emergency procedures in humans to achieve safe sedation and analgesia was studied in cats. The study was performed to assess propofol, ketamine and norketamine kinetics in six female cats that received ketamine and propofol (1:1 ratio) as a loading dose (2 mg/kg each, IV) followed by a continuous infusion (10 mg/kg/h each, IV, 25 min of length). Blood samples were collected during the infusion period and up to 24 h afterwards. Drug quantification was achieved by HPLC analysis using UV‐visible detection for ketamine and fluorimetric detection for propofol. The pharmacokinetic parameters were deduced by a two‐compartment bolus plus infusion model for propofol and ketamine and a monocompartmental model for norketamine. Additional data were derived by a noncompartmental analysis. Propofol and ketamine were quantifiable in most animals until 24 and 8 h after the end of infusion, respectively. Propofol showed a long elimination half‐life (t1/2λ2 7.55 ± 9.86 h), whereas ketamine was characterized by shorter half‐life (t1/2λ2 4 ± 3.4 h) owing to its rapid biotransformation into norketamine. The clinical significance of propofol’s long elimination half‐life and low clearance is negligible when the drug is administered as short‐term and low‐dosage infusion. The concurrent administration of ketamine and propofol in cats did not produce adverse effects although it was not possible to exclude interference in the metabolism.  相似文献

Objective – The primary objective of this study was to assess the feasibility of noninvasive mechanical ventilation (NIV) in cats. The secondary objective was to determine whether cardiovascular parameters and anesthetic drug requirements associated with noninvasive ventilation differ from those associated with invasive ventilation. Design – Randomized, cross‐over design. Setting – A research laboratory in a veterinary teaching hospital. Animals – Eight healthy adult cats, 3 intact females and 5 intact males, weighing between 3 and 6 kg, were used. Interventions – Each cat was randomly assigned to NIV via nasal mask, or invasive ventilation using an endotracheal tube. Mechanical ventilation was performed for 6 hours. Anesthesia was provided using continuous infusions of propofol and butorphanol. After a minimum 9‐day washout period, the procedure was repeated using the alternate ventilation interface. Measurements and Main Results – Cardiovascular parameters (heart rate, rectal temperature, direct arterial blood pressure), arterial blood gases, drug requirements, sedation score, and ventilation parameters, were monitored throughout the procedures. These values were evaluated using ANCOVA for repeated measures. All cats were effectively ventilated using NIV. There were no significant differences in cardiovascular parameters, drug requirements, or sedation scores between groups. Although PaCO2 values did not differ, PaO2 values were significantly higher in the invasively ventilated group. Inspiratory tidal volumes were similar between groups, whereas expiratory tidal volumes were significantly lower in the NIV group. Inspiratory pressures were significantly higher in the NIV group. Respiratory frequency was significantly higher in the invasively ventilated group. Conclusions – NIV of cats is possible. However, currently it does not confer any cardiovascular benefit over invasive ventilation and drug requirements are similar. Use of a correctly fitted mask is essential for successful NIV as air leaks account for the observed discrepancy between inspiratory and expiratory volumes. Further investigation into this modality is warranted.  相似文献

Abstract Objective: To report a life‐threatening complication (airway collapse) associated with a common procedure (anesthesia) and to describe its successful management. Case Summary: A dog without pre‐existing signs of respiratory disease developed hypoxemia and severe atelectasis in the post‐anesthetic recovery period and was demonstrated, by bronchoscopic examination, to have severe airway collapse. Mechanical ventilation was used to re‐expand collapsed lung units and to prevent re‐collapse. A ventilation strategy designed to minimize airway and alveolar trauma was used. The dog was successfully weaned from the ventilator and made a full recovery. Unique Information Provided: Acute, severe hypoxemia due to airway collapse occurred in the post‐operative period in a dog with no signs of pre‐existing respiratory disease. The dog was successfully managed with short‐term mechanical ventilation. High frequency jet ventilation was used for a diagnostic bronchoscopy.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Orotracheal intubation is a commonly performed procedure in the cat, but it is not without complications. Tracheal rupture has been reported in cats, but trauma to the arytenoids from intubation has not been documented. OBSERVATIONS: An otherwise healthy, 5-year-old male domestic shorthair cat presented for total ear canal ablation to resolve intractable otitis media and externa. The cat was premedicated with glycopyrrolate, hydromorphone, and acepromazine. Anesthesia was induced with diazepam and ketamine, and maintained with isoflurane in oxygen. During orotracheal intubation, the larynx was poorly visualized and excessive force was used to perform intubation. Subsequently, blood was observed in the larynx and laryngoscopy revealed a tear lateral to the patient's right arytenoid which had been created during intubation. The larynx was re-intubated normally and the cat suffered no obvious ill effects from the trauma to the larynx. CONCLUSIONS: Direct observation and proper technique must be employed during orotracheal intubation in cats in an attempt to avoid laryngeal trauma.  相似文献

Animals provide benefits to elderly and chronically ill people by decreasing loneliness, increasing social interactions, and improving mental health. As a result, many hospitals and long‐term care facilities allow family pets to visit ill or convalescing patients or support animal‐assisted therapy programs. These include programs that have resident animals in long‐term care facilities. Despite the benefits, there are concerns about disease transmission between pets and patients. Antibiotic‐resistant bacteria, such as methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), are a recognized problem in healthcare settings leading to refractory infections and potentially life‐threatening illnesses. MRSA has been isolated from numerous animal species, yet few studies are available on the carriage of this pathogen in animals residing in long‐term care facilities. Our objective was to characterize MRSA carriage among resident animals in a long‐term care facility. Methods: To document MRSA colonization, nasal swabs from 12 resident animals (one dogs and 11 cats) of a long‐term care facility were collected weekly for 8 weeks. Staphylococcus isolates were characterized by antimicrobial susceptibility and MRSA isolates were further characterized by pulsed‐field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). PFGE isolate patterns were compared with an existing database of MRSA isolate patterns at the Minnesota Department of Health. Results: Two of 11 cats were colonized with MRSA. MRSA was recovered from five of eight weekly samples in one cat and two of eight weekly samples in the other cat. All isolates were classified as USA100 (healthcare‐associated strains). Discussion: Long‐term care resident animals may acquire MRSA. Clonally related strains were identified over the 8‐week sampling period. It is unclear if pets serve as an on‐going source of infection to their human companions in long‐term care facilities.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the use of the anesthetic combination tiletamine, zolazepam, ketamine, and xylazine (TKX) for anesthesia of feral cats at large-scale neutering clinics. DESIGN: Original study. ANIMALS: 7,502 feral cats. PROCEDURE: Cats were trapped by their caretakers for a feral cat neutering program from July 1996 to August 2000. The anesthetic combination TKX was injected IM into cats while they remained in their traps. Each milliliter of TKX contained 50 mg of tiletamine, 50 mg of zolazepam, 80 mg of ketamine, and 20 mg of xylazine. Females were spayed by veterinarians, whereas males were castrated by veterinarians or veterinary students. Yohimbine (0.5 mg, IV) was administered at the end of the procedure. Logs were kept of the individual drug doses, signalment of the cats, and any complications encountered. These data were analyzed retrospectively (1996 to 1999) and prospectively (2000). RESULTS: Of the 5,766 cats for which dosing records were complete, 4,584 (79.5%) received a single dose of TKX. The mean initial dose of TKX was 0.24 +/- 0.04 ml/cat, and the total mean dose of TKX was 0.27 +/- 0.09 ml. Overall mortality rate was 0.35% (26/7,502) cats, and the death rate attributable solely to potential anesthetic deaths was 0.23% (17/7,502) cats. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The use of TKX for large-scale feral cat neutering clinics has several benefits. The TKX combination is inexpensive, provides predictable results, can be administered quickly and easily in a small volume, and is associated with a low mortality rate in feral cats.  相似文献

A 6-year-old female neutered Burmese cat received a 10 times overdose (5mg/m(2)) of vincristine, administered in error. Supportive therapy, including administration of calcium folinate, was instigated within 8h. Despite treatment, the patient exhibited deterioration in renal and respiratory function and died 72 h after overdose. Necropsy was performed within 24h of death. Gross examination revealed pulmonary oedema and a pale brown liver with a prominent lobular pattern. Histological examination revealed marked apoptosis and necrosis of the bone marrow myeloid series, and mild to moderate apoptosis and necrosis of the erythroid and megakaryocyte series. Multifocal necrosis of the renal tubules, hepatocytes, and small intestinal crypt epithelium was also observed. Use of calcium folinate as a rescue therapy following vincristine overdose in humans has been previously documented. If treatment is to be successful in cases of vincristine overdose in cats, then a more complete understanding of the pathogenesis of vincristine toxicity in companion animal species is required.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To determine the minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) of isoflurane during the infusion of ketamine. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective, experimental trial. ANIMALS: Twelve adult spayed female cats weighing 5.1 +/- 0.9 kg. METHODS: Six cats were anesthetized with isoflurane in oxygen, intubated and attached to a circle-breathing system with mechanical ventilation. Catheters were placed in a peripheral vein for the infusion of fluids and ketamine, and the jugular vein for blood sampling for the measurement of ketamine concentrations. An arterial catheter was placed to allow blood pressure measurement and sampling for the measurement of PaCO2, PaO2 and pH. PaCO2 was maintained between 29 and 41 mmHg (3.9-5.5 kPa) and body temperature was kept between 37.8 and 39.3 degrees C. Following instrumentation, the MAC of isoflurane was determined in triplicate using a tail clamp method. A loading dose (2 mg kg(-1) over 5 minutes) and an infusion (23 microg kg(-1) minute(-1)) of ketamine was started and MAC was redetermined starting 30 minutes later. Two further loading doses and infusions were used, 2 mg kg(-1) and 6 mg kg(-1) with 46 and 115 microg kg(-1) minute(-1), respectively and MAC was redetermined. Cardiopulmonary measurements were taken before application of the noxious stimulus. The second group of six cats was used for the measurement of steady state plasma ketamine concentrations at each of the three infusion rates used in the initial study and the appropriate MAC value determined from the first study. RESULTS: The MAC decreased by 45 +/- 17%, 63 +/- 18%, and 75 +/- 17% at the infusion rates of 23, 46, and 115 microg kg(-1) minute(-1). These infusion rates corresponded to ketamine plasma concentrations of 1.75 +/- 0.21, 2.69 +/- 0.40, and 5.36 +/- 1.19 microg mL(-1). Arterial blood pressure and heart rate increased significantly with ketamine. Recovery was protracted. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The MAC of isoflurane was significantly decreased by an infusion of ketamine and this was accompanied by an increase in heart rate and blood pressure. Because of the prolonged recovery in our cats, further work needs to be performed before using this in patients.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo determine the thermal and mechanical antinociceptive effects of two different subanesthetic constant rate infusions of racemic ketamine in cats.Study designProspective, randomized, blinded, experimental study.AnimalsEight healthy adult domestic shorthair cats (two intact females and six neutered males).MethodsThe thorax and the lower thoracic limbs of each cat were shaved for thermal (TT) and mechanical threshold (MT) testing and a cephalic catheter was placed. Three intravenous treatments of equivalent volume were given as loading dose (LD) followed by an infusion for 2 hours: (K5) 0.5 mg kg?1 ketamine followed by 5 μg kg?1 minute?1 ketamine infusion, (K23) 0.5 mg kg?1 ketamine followed by 23 μg kg?1 minute?1 ketamine infusion or (S) 0.9% saline solution. Effects on behavior, sedation scores, MT and TT were obtained prior to drug treatment and 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.25, 2.5 2.75, 3 hours then every 0.5 hours for 7 hours and 10, 12, 14 and 26 hours after loading dose administration.ResultsKetamine induced mild sedation for the period of the infusion, no adverse behavioral effects were observed. Thermal threshold was significantly higher than baseline (K5: 44.5 ± 0.7 °C; K23: 44.5 ± 0.5 °C) at 15 minutes in the K5 group (46.8 ± 3.5 °C) and at 45 minutes in the K23 group (47.1 ± 4.1 °C). In the K23 group TT was significantly increased compared to S and K5 at 45 minutes. In K5 at 15 minutes MT (9.6 ± 4.0 N) was different to baseline (6.1 ± 0.8 N) and to the S group (5.9 ± 2.3 N).Conclusion and clinical relevanceLow dose rate ketamine infusions minimally affect thermal and mechanical antinociception in cats. Further studies with different nociceptive testing methods are necessary to assess whether ketamine could be a useful analgesic in cats.  相似文献

Introduction: STI571 (Gleevec, imatinib mesylate) is a receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor with selectivity for Bcr‐Abl, platelet‐derived growth factor (PDGF), stem cell factor (SCF), and c‐Kit. Side effects with use in humans include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, myalgia, edema, and cutaneous reactions. Renal and hepatic toxicity have also been reported. In dogs, there is significant hepatic toxicity at sub‐clinical doses. The purpose of this prospective study was to determine the toxicity level and potential treatment protocol in tumor bearing cats. Methods: A phase I clinical trial was performed in client owned cats using an escalating dose of STI571 in tumor bearing cats. Cats included in the study had a histologic diagnosis of fibrosarcoma or other tumors and were staged with CBC, biochemical profile, thoracic radiographs, and abdominal ultrasound. None of the cats received concurrent chemotherapy, but those previously treated with surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy, were not excluded. The initial starting dose was 5 mg/cat PO SID and was gradually increased to 10 and 20 mg/cat PO SID at a 2–6 week interval depending on laboratory work and disease progression. A repeat physical examination, CBC, and biochemical profile, were performed every 2 weeks for 2 rechecks, then every 4 weeks. Results: Six cats were enrolled in the study. Four cats had oral squamous cell carcinoma, and two cats had cutaneous fibrosarcoma. One cat demonstrated leukocytosis, increased liver enzymes, and signs of acute renal failure two weeks after initiating therapy (5 mg PO SID). No dose escalation was made in this cat. Five cats endured dose escalations of 10 mg PO SID in two cats and 20 mg PO SID in three cats and were treated for 2–4 months. None of these cats experienced any signs of toxicity as measured by CBC and biochemical profile. Conclusions: Only one cat experienced toxicity that may have been associated with low dose administration of STI571. As most cats tolerated the drug without an adverse effect, further evaluation of STI571 in a phase II clinical trial is warranted.  相似文献

The quality and duration of anaesthesia, cardiorespiratory effects and recovery characteristics of a morphine, medetomidine, ketamine (MMK) drug combination were determined in cats. Six healthy, adult female cats were administered 0.2 mg/kg morphine sulphate, 60 microg/kg medetomidine hydrochloride, and 5 mg/kg ketamine hydrochloride intramuscularly. Atipamezole was administered intramuscularly at 120 min after MMK administration. Time to lateral recumbency, intubation, extubation and sternal recumbency were recorded. Cardiorespiratory variables and response to a noxious stimulus were recorded before and at 3 min and 10 min increments after drug administration until sternal recumbency. The time to lateral recumbency and intubation were 1.9+/-1.2 and 4.3+/-1.2 min, respectively. Body temperature and haemoglobin saturation with oxygen remained unchanged compared to baseline values throughout anaesthesia. Respiratory rate, tidal volume, minute volume, heart rate, and blood pressure were significantly decreased during anaesthesia compared to baseline values. One cat met criteria for hypotension (systolic blood pressure <90 mmHg). End tidal carbon dioxide increased during anaesthesia compared to baseline values. All but one cat remained non-responsive to noxious stimuli from 3 to 120 min. Time to extubation and sternal recumbency following atipamezole were 2.9+/-1.1 and 4.7+/-1.0 min, respectively. MMK drug combination produced excellent short-term anaesthesia and analgesia with minimal cardiopulmonary depression. Anaesthesia lasted for at least 120 min in all but one cat and was effectively reversed by atipamezole.  相似文献

Four outbreaks of leukoencephalomyelopathy in colonies of SPF cats on a long‐term diet of irradiated dry cat food were observed in the Netherlands between 1989 and 2001. As a primary defect in myelin formation was suspected to be the cause of the disease and myelin consists mainly of lipids and their fatty acids, we investigated the fatty acid composition of the white matter of the spinal cord of affected and control cats and of irradiated and non‐irradiated food. The irradiated food had low levels of alpha‐linolenic acid compared to linoleic acid as well as a high total omega‐6:omega‐3 ratio of 7:1 in the irradiated and of 2:1 in the non‐irradiated food. The white matter of the spinal cord showed low levels of linoleic acid and absence of alpha‐linolenic acid in affected cats as well as absence of lignoceric and nervonic acid in both affected and control cats. These abnormalities in fatty acid composition of the white matter of the spinal cord may reflect an increased need for alpha‐linolenic acid as a substrate for longer chain omega‐3 fatty acids to compose myelin and thus indicate a particular species sensitivity to dietary deficiency in omega‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly alpha‐linolenic acid in cats. Our findings indicate that abnormalities in fatty acid metabolism in myelin play an essential role in the pathogenesis of this acquired form of leukoencephalomyelopathy in cats.  相似文献

Objective: To describe surgical repair of a large atrial septal defect (ASD) in a cat. Study Design: Clinical report. Animal: A 3‐year‐old, 3.3 kg, intact male Japanese domestic short‐haired cat. Methods: A 10.2‐mm‐diameter ASD detected by echocardiography was surgically corrected because pulmonary vascular resistance‐to‐systemic vascular resistance ratio (Qp/Qs) was 3.2. Using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), open surgical repair was achieved with an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (e‐PTFE) graft. The priming volume of the CPB circuit was minimized by cutting the CPB tubing, and partially replacing the priming fluid with whole cat blood. To prevent hemodilution associated with use of cardioprotective agents, surgery was performed on the beating heart. Results: At 1‐year echocardiographic evaluation, the repair was intact, and at 3 years, the cat was alive without need of medication. Two non‐pedigreed male castrated cats had persistent cyanosis over a 3‐year observation period. Clinical cardiopulmonary evaluations did not reveal abnormalities, but the blood remained dark after exposure to air. Erythrocytic methemoglobin concentrations were high (~40% of hemoglobin) and cytochrome b5 reductase (CYB5R) activities in erythrocytes were low (≤15% of control). One cat remained intolerant of exertion, and the other cat developed anemia and died due to an unidentified comorbidity. Whole‐genome sequencing revealed a homozygous c.625G>A missense variant (B4:137967506) and a c.232‐1G>C splice acceptor variant (B4:137970815) in CYB5R3, respectively, which were absent in 193 unaffected additional cats. The p.Gly209Ser missense variant likely disrupts a nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH)‐binding domain, while the splicing error occurs at the acceptor site for exon 4, which likely affects downstream translation of the protein. The 2 novel CYB5R3 variants were associated with methemoglobinemia using clinical, biochemical, genomics, and in silico protein studies. The variant prevalence is unknown in the cat population.  相似文献
