This study represents an electronmicroscopic examination of seminiferous tubule epithelium of the bull, with special attention to the cell types and junctional complexes between cells which contribute to the blood-testis barrier. In general seminiferous epithelium of the bull resembles that of other animals with some alterations in supportive cell types and organization of junctional complexes between epithelial cells. These differences are illustrated and discussed in regard to their possible functional significance.  相似文献

Five young Anglo-Nubian goats were found to have developed a fluid-filled cyst in the upper neck. In each case the cyst was unilateral and after excision was found to be lined in most sites by non-ciliated, pseudostratified columnar epithelium, containing goblet cells. This epithelium closely resembled that of normal parotid salivary gland ducts. The lesions did not recur in any of the four goats followed-up after surgery.  相似文献

The normal ultrastructure of the intestinal epithelium of F. hepatica has been described in detail e. g. by Thorsell & Björk- man (1965). However, experimentally produced pathological phenomena of the epithelium have not been investigated, though such studies might yield further information on the physiological function of the epithelial cell. Light and electron microscopy of the intestinal epithelium during in vitro cultivation of the liver fluke does therefore seem to be appropriate. This preliminary report, giving an account of the cultivation procedures, deals only with light microscopy of the cultivated liver flukes.  相似文献

The surface features of the upper respiratory tract of 20 clinically normal horses of various ages and types were studied with scanning electron microscopy. In the rostral part of the nasal cavity, there was a wide zone of non-ciliated epithelium whereas, caudally, the surface was well ciliated. This latter type of epithelium extended into the nasopharynx and guttural pouches although scattered areas of non-ciliated microvillous cells were also found.  相似文献

During activities of the Sea Fisheries Research Institute at Kleinzee, lung samples from six South African fur seals were collected. The terminal airways showed pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium with numerous goblet cells and occasional brush cells. Smooth muscle, cartilage and submucosal glands were also present. The epithelium changed over a short distance, in the smaller airways, through pseudostratified columnar non-ciliated to simple cuboidal epithelium with no goblet cells. The columnar non-ciliated cells contained secretory granules, which appeared to be serous. No Clara cells were found. Cartilage and muscle were present throughout, up to the origin of the alveolar ducts, but the glands disappeared together with the goblet cells. Alveoli were lined by types one and two alveolar epithelial cells, with subepithelial capillaries. They were divided by an alveolar septum with a well developed alveolar knob. This knob contained elastic fibres and fibroblasts, but not the smooth muscle cells which are present in terrestrial mammals and in Phocidae.  相似文献

Histochemical activities of several enzymes were investigated in the olfactory epithelium (OE) and vomeronasal organ (VNO) of the golden hamster. Activities of adenosine triphosphatase, lactate dehydrogenase and succinate dehydrogenase were intense in the OE, and the sensory (VSE) and respiratory epithelium (VRE) of the VNO. The activity of acid phosphatase was intense in both the OE and the VSE, while that of non-specific esterase was intense in the VSE alone. The activity of alkaline phosphatase was detectable only in the VRE. Activities of monoamine oxidase and acetylcholine esterase were negative in all of the OE, VSE and VRE. These similarities and differences in the histochemical distribution of enzymes between OE and VSE may reflect the common olfactory function and/or functional specialization in these epithelia. On the other hand, the VRE was considerably different from the OE and VSE in the enzymatic distribution. This may reflect the non-olfactory function of this epithelium.  相似文献

Light microscopic observations revealed that in camel foetuses of 25 mm crown‐to‐rump length (CRL) the primordial tubular system of the prospective lung was formed of several tubules lined by undifferentiated columnar epithelium. Intra‐epithelial neuroendocrine cells were the first elements to be differentiated in the lining epithelium of the primordial tubular system of the prospective lung as early as 25 mm CRL. On reaching 50–67 mm CRL, the primordial tubular system started to differentiate into two systems of primordial tubules, the prospective bronchial or light tubules and the future respiratory or dark tubules. The lining epithelium of the prospective bronchial tubules revealed a clear evidence of ciliogenesis as early as 80 mm CRL. From 800 mm CRL onwards, the bronchial epithelium demonstrated ciliated and non‐ciliated secretory cells. The non‐ciliated secretory cells of the bronchial epithelium of fetal camel lung showed moderate reaction to AB/PAS technique, for the first time, in fetuses reaching 600 mm CRL.  相似文献

This study examined the anatomical and histological characteristics of tubular genital organs of 51 adult female red brocket deer in the wild in different reproductive stages, collected by rural hunters in the north‐eastern Peruvian Amazon. The infundibulum was characterized by a large diameter and the presence of a highly folded and ciliated epithelium, and the isthmus has a growing secretor epithelium and a thicker muscular layer. Whereas ciliated cells are more frequent in the infundibulum, epithelial secretory cells showing abundant apical secretory blebs are more frequent in the isthmus. In non‐pregnant females in luteal phase, the endometrium transforms from a proliferative to a secretory type, showing a significant proliferation of endometrial uterine glands. The red brocket deer has four large circular folds in the cervix. The epithelium of the cervix is composed primarily of secretory cells. In pregnant females, the lumen of the endocervical canal is occupied by abundant mucous secretion. All pregnant females had one embryo or fetus, with a fetal sex ratio of 54.0% females to 46.0% males. This species has a cotyledonary, syndesmochorial and partially deciduate placenta, with 6–7 dome‐shaped caruncles per female. The red brocket deer does not present a true cornification of the vaginal epithelial cells, and no vaginal epithelial pattern was determined according the reproductive state of the female.  相似文献

Aquaporins (AQPs) are channel proteins that facilitate the transepithelial and bidirectional movement of water. AQP9 is an aquaporin that is expressed in the mammalian epididymis. This water transport contributes to epididymal sperm concentration. This study aimed to examine the morphology of epididymal epithelium in piglets and boars, as well as the expression and immunolocalization of AQP9. The piglets presented an epididymal epithelium in differentiation with principal, basal and apical cells. The cellular population of the epididymal epithelium in boars consisted of principal, basal, apical, clear and narrow cells. The migratory cells known as halo cells were observed in the epididymis of both piglets and boars. AQP9 expression presented differences between piglets and boars. Moderate intensity of AQP9 immunoreaction was observed in the apical border of the epididymal epithelium of the caput and cauda regions in the piglet epididymis. A moderate‐to‐intense reaction for AQP9 was observed in the nuclei of epithelial cells of the three epididymal regions in the boar epididymis. The region of the cauda epididymis showed reactivity for AQP9 also in the apical border of the epithelium. It is believed that the AQP9 is already functional in piglets at only 1 week of age and is more active, playing a pivotal role in the caput and cauda regions of the epididymis. Moreover, the intense AQP9 expression in the apical border of epithelial cells in the cauda region of the boar epididymis suggests a higher performance of AQP9 in this region, where sperm complete their maturation process, stored and concentrated.  相似文献

Histological findings show that various pathogenic processes are involved in the cases of clinically detected branchionecrosis. The changes in gills occurring at toxic branchionecrosis are a necrobiotic process in their nature; in gill lamellae this process manifests itself as a swelling of the respiratory epithelium and as dilation of lamellar sinuses, and in stratified epithelium of gill arch and filaments it takes on the form of the hypertrophy and hyperplasia of epithelial cells. In severe cases the swollen epithelium forms deposits filling up also the interlamellar space. Toxic branchionecrosis is a term referring to a disease when the pathological processes are caused by ammonia intoxication and autointoxication, the main role being played by pH value. At experimental ammonia intoxication the changes in gills are about the same as in toxic branchionecrosis but the symptoms are not so pronounced. Changes characteristic of spherosporosis involve severe necrotic processes in the respiratory epithelium as well as in the stratified epithelium of gills, and the epithelium harbours different developmental stages of spherospores. The spherospores are easily detected when stained with alcian blue at pH 2.5. The changes in the gills of carp naturally invaded by spherospores with additional ammonia intoxication correspond to findings characteristic of toxic branchionecrosis: degeneration of stratified and respiratory epithelium of gills combined with necrotic changes caused by the developmental stages of spherospores. When water is highly oxygenated with chlorinated lime, large cells with eosinophilic granules severely multiply mainly in the stratified epithelium of gills; this process is considered as an inflammatory process. Parasitic invasions by Trichodina and Chilodonella induce local inflammatory reactions with the swelling of the respiratory epithelium.  相似文献

Optical light, transmission, and scanning electron microscopy were used in investigations of epithelia in the glandular region of the milk cistern and greater lactiferous ducts and yielded the following findings, four and six hours from infection: degeneration and necrosis of epithelial cells, intraepithelial foreign cell infiltration (neutrophilic granulocytes, lymphocytes, macrophages), intra-epithelial oedema and locally delimited epithelial loss. The lesions differed by intensity in various regions, so that a distinction could be made among five froms of epithelial alterations. The epithelial cells revealed their capability of absorbing pathogenic material and storing it in cytoplasmic vacuoles. This was considered to reflect active involvement of epithelium in antibacterial defence, and consequently, to reflect the role played by epithelium as a defence barrier in the milk cistern and greater lactiferous ducts.  相似文献

The reticular groove mucosa of adult cattle, buffalo and sheep was investigated by histochemical and immunocytochemical techniques. Intense NADPH‐d staining was observed in the folds of the epithelium mucosa and at the bottom of the reticular groove in all domestic ruminants studied. The NADPH‐d staining showed that the innervations of the tunica muscularis of the reticular groove lip were composed of nerve corpuscles, nerve fibres and nerve cells of the mucosa epithelium. SEM analysis showed an intense nitric oxide synthase (NOS) I immunoreactivity in deep and medium cellular layers. It is interesting to note that the same morphologies were observed in samples of the mucosa epithelium, and of the tunica muscularis processed by NADPH‐d and in those processed by immunogold techniques. This study has demonstrated that nitric oxide (NO) is involved in the rumination activity and that it plays a double role in this activity in the reticular groove of all domestic ruminants studied: (1) NO plays a role similar to the one it has in the mucosa epithelium of all the other compartments of the ruminant forestomach, (2) The lip sections of the reticular groove has shown abundant innervations that may indirectly coordinate and control the forestomach motility through the direct activation of the nitrergic (nitroxidergic) nerve cells and nerve fibres.  相似文献

The postnatal testicular development and actin distribution in the seminiferous epithelium were examined by light microscopy, using the testes of the Habu (Trimeresurus flavoviridis; snake) from 0-year-old to 3-year-old. At 0-year-old (about 1 month after birth), the testis was quite small in size, and the seminiferous epithelium was composed of only Sertoli cells and large spermatogonia. Actin immunoreactivity was observed in the peritubular myoid cells, but could not be detected in the seminiferous epithelium. At 1-year-old (about 10 months after birth), the testicular size increased to a great degree. In the seminiferous epithelium, spermatocytes newly appeared. Actin could still not be detected in the seminiferous epithelium. At 2-year-old (about 1 year and 10 months after birth), the testes continued to develop in size. In the seminiferous epithelium, elongate spermatids and round spermatids were frequently seen, in addition to Sertoli cells, spermatogonia and spermatocytes. Thus, active spermatogenesis was clearly recognized at this age. Moreover, the actin distribution in the seminiferous epithelium was observed at the site between Sertoli cells and spermatids, as well as that at adult stage. The immunoreactivity of actin in the peritubular myoid cells gradually increased from 0-year-old to 2-year-old. Conclusively, it seems likely that spermatogenesis in the Habu initiates at 2-year-old, accompanying with the appearance of actin in the seminiferous epithelium.  相似文献

The study investigated seasonal changes in the morphology of the seminal vesicles of Eidolon helvum in a typical African tropical environment. Seminal vesicles of forty-eight bats were examined during the early rainy, late rainy and peak dry seasons, using gross anatomical, histological and ultrastructural techniques. The interlobular connective tissue septa from the external capsule demarcated the glandular parenchyma into numerous lobules of tubulo-alveolar glands. A simple cuboidal epithelium of mono- or bi-nucleated cuboidal cells lined the glandular mucosa during the rainy season. This was replaced by a bistratified cuboidal epithelium, whose upper layer of cells showed evidence of degeneration, during the dry season. The PAS-positive secretory products appeared to be numerous during the rainy season, but few and clumped together during the dry season. The mean gross weight, interlobular septal thickness, acini diameter and epithelial height of the glands varied significantly with season. Ultrastructural features of the secretory cells during the rainy season showed well-developed cytoplasmic organelles, numerous electron lucid secretory vesicles and electron-dense granules. Secretory epithelial cells of the seminal vesicles are very active during the rainy season, while regeneration of degenerated epithelium in preparation for the next reproductive cycle occurs during the dry season.  相似文献

本研究旨在获得体外培养状态下的猪小肠上皮细胞,研究猪小肠上皮细胞与大豆凝集素的结合情况.选取新生未哺乳健康仔猪,取小肠组织对小肠上皮细胞进行分离培养,并进行纯化.纯化后的细胞以角蛋白抗体-8为—抗进行细胞免疫化学试验鉴定,鉴定后的猪小肠上皮细胞以FITC-SBA为探针进行细胞凝集素荧光标记化学试验,对猪小肠上皮细胞大豆凝集素结合位点进行标记.结果表明:试验分离纯化的细胞经角蛋白抗体-8鉴定为阳性,所分离纯化的细胞为猪小肠上皮细胞,经检测其纯度达90%以上,猪小肠上皮细胞FITC-SBA标记结果为阳性.体外培养的猪小肠上皮细胞表面存在大量的大豆凝集素结合位点,进一步明确了猪小肠上皮细胞是大豆凝集素结合的主要细胞类型之一,为单胃动物大豆凝集索抗营养机制研究提供理论依据.  相似文献

The light microscopic appearance and ultrastructure of the nasopharyngeal tonsil (tonsilla pharyngea), collected from 12 adult buffaloes of local mixed breed, were explored for the distribution of different types of epithelia, lymphoid tissue and high endothelial venules. The tonsillar mucosa was lined by pseudostratified columnar ciliated epithelium having goblet cells. The respiratory epithelium associated with the underlying lymphoid tissue formed the lymphoepithelium. The epithelium was further modified into follicle‐associated epithelium (FAE) characterized by reduced epithelial height, presence of a few dome‐shaped cuboidal cells equivalent of the M‐cells and absence of goblet and ciliated cells. The lymphoid tissue was distributed in the form of isolated lymphoid cells, diffuse lymphoid tissue and lymphoid follicles, mainly distributed within the propria‐submucosa along with the sero‐mucous glandular tissue. The goblet cells of the respiratory epithelium and the acinar cells contained different mucopolysaccharides. Scanning electron microscopy of the surface mucosa demonstrated a dense mat of cilia, island‐like arrangement of microvillus cells, M‐cells and a few brush‐like cells. The transmission electron microscopy revealed the different cell organelles of the respiratory epithelium and the FAE. Lymphocyte migration via the high endothelial venules in the propria‐submucosa was also observed.  相似文献

Quantitative stereological study of the bursa of Fabricius in Prelux chickens was performed 3 and 6 months after neonatal gonadectomy. The different structural changes were revealed in bursal follicles, epithelium and stroma of male and female chickens. In orchidectomized animals, the weight of bursa was increased compared to the nonoperated males. Stereological analysis revealed that the absolute amount of bursal follicles was increased due to the increased mass of follicular medulla. The number of areas of follicle-associated epithelium at the bursal mucosa, which in a mature bursa corresponds to the follicle number, was decreased. The height of follicle-associated epithelium (3 months) was decreased and the diameter of the follicle-associated epithelium (6 months) was increased. No changes in the surface density of bursa] epithelium was registered 3 and 6 months after neonatal gonadectomy. In ovariectomized chickens the weight of bursa was decreased in comparison to the nonoperated females. Histoquantitative analysis showed that the bursal follicular mass was decreased due to the decreased absolute amount of follicular medulla (3 and 6 months) and cortex (6 months), whereas the number and diameter of follicles were not changed. The height of interfollicular and follicle-associated epithelium was decreased, but no changes in the surface density of bursal epithelium was registered. Relative proportion of bursal stroma was increased. The studies presented further support of the concept that the functional relation between gonads and bursa of Fabricii exists during the postnatal period in the chicken.  相似文献
