[目的] 评价杜蒙羊的肉用性能、屠宰性能及肉品质。[方法] 选取60只杜蒙羊,公母各半,于5月龄时利用超声波背膘检测仪对羊只进行活体肉用性能检测,于6月龄时对羊只进行屠宰,测定主要屠宰性能指标以及肉品质和安全性评价指标;对杜蒙羊公羊和母羊的活体肉用性能指标、主要屠宰性能指标、肉品质和安全性评价指标进行统计学分析和比较。[结果] 杜蒙羊活体肉用性能指标检测结果表明,公羊的腰肌厚度和眼肌面积显著(P<0.05)大于母羊,背膘厚度与母羊差异不显著(P>0.05);屠宰后肉用性能指标测定结果表明,公羊的背脂厚和眼肌面积显著(P<0.05)大于母羊。屠宰性能指标测定结果表明,杜蒙羊公羊的胴体重、净肉重、宰前活重均显著(P<0.05)高于母羊,公羊的屠宰率、胴体净肉率高于母羊,但无显著(P>0.05)差异;母羊的大腿骨重、小腿骨重、大腿骨长、小腿骨长均显著(P<0.05)低于公羊,公羊和母羊的4个骨指标两两之间呈正相关,大腿骨重和小腿骨重更接近线性相关。肉品质和安全性评价指标测定结果表明,杜蒙羊公羊的肌内脂肪含量显著(P<0.05)低于母羊;公羊的胴体肌肉水分含量与母羊差异不显著(P>0.05);公羊和母羊肌肉中的铅、铬、汞、砷元素含量均符合《农产品安全质量 无公害畜禽肉安全要求》(GB 18406.3—2001),母羊肌肉中的铬含量和汞含量显著(P<0.05)低于公羊。[结论] 杜蒙羊公羊的活体肉用性能和屠宰性能优于母羊,母羊的肉品质优于公羊。  相似文献

The purpose of this experiment was to study the effect of gender on the slaughter performance and meat quality of Sunite sheep.Twelve 6-month-old Sunite rams and ewes at the same body condition were selected from the grazing herds of the Sunite Zuoqi Improvement Station Breeding Farm to determine their slaughter performance and meat quality.The slaughter test results showed that the bone quality and bone-meat ratio of the rams were significantly higher than that of the ewes (P<0.05),and the net meat quality and net meat rate of the ewes were significantly higher than that of the rams (P<0.05).The results of meat quality traits showed that the drip loss of ewes were significantly lower than that of rams (P<0.05),and the other indicators were not significantly different (P>0.05).The results of conventional nutrient composition of muscles showed that the intramuscular moisture content of the rams were significantly higher than that of the ewes (P<0.05),and the intramuscular fat content of the ewes were significantly higher than that of the rams (P<0.05),while the other indicators were not significantly different (P>0.05).The results of amino acid determination showed that the essential amino acid ratio in muscle of sunite ewes were significantly higher than that of rams (P<0.05),but there was no significant difference between the rams and ewes that formed the precursor amino acid content of meat flavor (P>0.05).Fatty acid measurement results showed that the saturated fatty acid ratio in the subcutaneous fat of rams was significantly lower than that of ewes (P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the ratio of saturated fatty acids in muscle fat and tail fat (P>0.05);The ratio of monounsaturated fatty acids in ewes tail fat was significantly higher than that of rams (P<0.05).The ratio of monounsaturated fatty acids in subcutaneous fat and intermuscular fat was not significantly different between rams and ewes (P>0.05).The ratio of polyunsaturated fatty acids in intermuscular fat of rams was significantly higher than that of ewes (P<0.05),and there was no significant difference in the content of polyunsaturated fatty acids in subcutaneous fat and tail fat (P>0.05).In summary,it showed that gender had a certain influence on the slaughter performance and meat quality of 6-month-old Sunite sheep.  相似文献

本试验旨在研究性别对苏尼特羊屠宰性能和肉品质的影响。从苏尼特左旗改良站种羊场放牧群中选取体况相同、6月龄苏尼特羊24只(公母各半),测定其屠宰性能和肉品质。屠宰试验结果显示,公羊骨重和骨肉比显著高于母羊(P<0.05),母羊净肉重和净肉率则显著高于公羊(P<0.05)。肉质性状测定结果表明,苏尼特母羊的滴水损失显著低于苏尼特公羊(P<0.05),其余指标则差异不显著(P>0.05)。肌肉常规营养成分结果表明,公羊肌内水分含量显著高于母羊(P<0.05),母羊粗脂肪含量则显著高于公羊(P<0.05),其他指标差异不显著(P>0.05)。氨基酸测定结果表明,苏尼特母羊肌肉必需氨基酸比率显著高于公羊(P<0.05),形成肉品香味的前体氨基酸含量在公母羊间无显著差异(P>0.05)。不同部位脂肪酸含量测定结果表明,公羊皮下脂肪中饱和脂肪酸比率显著低于母羊(P<0.05),肌内脂肪和尾脂中饱和脂肪酸比率公母羊差异不显著(P>0.05);母羊尾脂中单不饱和脂肪酸比率显著高于公羊(P<0.05),皮下脂肪和肌间脂肪中单不饱和脂肪酸比率在公母羊间差异不显著(P>0.05);公羊肌内脂肪中多不饱和脂肪酸比率显著高于母羊(P<0.05),而在皮下脂肪和尾脂中多不饱和脂肪酸含量在公母羊间差异不显著(P>0.05)。综上所述,性别对6月龄苏尼特羊屠宰性能和肉品质均有一定影响。  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the level and duration of progesterone secretion during the sequential oestrous cycles in fat-tailed Tuj ewes following tactile and visual separation of rams during the breeding season. For these purposes, rams were separated from the main flock for 50 days starting from the beginning of the breeding season and 21 ewes were randomly selected for the current experiment. In order to assess luteal activity and the length of oestrous cycles, the ewes were blood-sampled thrice or twice weekly for the measurement of progesterone in plasma. The data showed that 3 +/- 0.2 oestrous cycles were observed in this time window, and the first oestrous cycle observed was shorter (P < 0.05) than the following cycles (mean +/- SEM, 14.6 +/- 0.82, 16.5 +/- 0.48 and 17.0 +/- 0.54 days, respectively, for cycles 1, 2 and 3). Progesterone production was significantly lower in the first oestrous cycle compared with the second and third cycles on days 9, 12 and 14 of the cycles. The follicular periods of ewes showed four accumulations (maximum values using a 3-day moving average technique) throughout the study and the percentages of ewes at each accumulation (peak day +/- 1 day) were 50, 35, 65 and 80% for the first, second, third and fourth accumulations, respectively (P < 0.05). It was concluded that progesterone production was lower and the oestrous cycles were shorter during the first oestrous cycle and that tactile and visual separation of rams at the beginning of the breeding season might enhance the synchronizing effect towards the end of the breeding season in the fat-tailed Tuj ewes.  相似文献

Prevalence and distribution of caseous lymphadenitis in feral goats   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A total of 2,920 feral goats from pastoral areas of Western Australia were examined and the prevalence of caseous lymphadenitis was estimated to be 7.8 +/- 0.9% in goats presented for slaughter. Head, body and visceral lesions were present in 49.3%, 46.7% and 12.3% of affected goats, respectively. A comparison with previously reported data from sheep has been made and significant differences are discussed. Lung lesions were relatively uncommon in goats, whereas the distribution of carcase lesions was similar between the species. Multiple lesions appear to be less common in goats than in sheep.  相似文献

Crossbred ewes (1/2 Dorset, 1/4 Rambouillet, and 1/4 Finnsheep) from a flock being selected for spring fertility, defined as ability to lamb following ram exposure in May and June in Virginia (37 degrees N latitude), were used to study the duration of the seasonal anestrus. In the first 3 yr of the study (1992, 1993, and 1995), mature ewes were divergently selected based on EBV for fertility, and the duration of anestrus was measured by continuously exposing the ewes to vasectomized rams equipped with marking harnesses from mid-January until approximately August 1. Only ewes that had lambed in the previous fall were used to ensure that ewes were in a comparable physiological state, and the same rams remained with the ewes in each year to avoid induction of estrus by introduction of novel rams. The duration of anestrus in high-fertility ewes (n = 26; mean fertility EBV of 12.6%) was 28.4 d, which was significantly less than the 70.2 d of anestrus observed for low-fertility ewes (n = 15; mean fertility EBV of .3%). Five high-fertility ewes did not exhibit a period of anestrus. The regression of number of days of anestrus on fertility EBV was -2.15 +/- .72 d/%. In yr 4 (1997), 11 high-fertility and two low-fertility ewes were evaluated. None of these ewes exhibited a clear seasonal anestrus; six unequivocally cycled continuously. Between January 23 and July 31, the mean duration of anestrus for these ewes was only approximately 11 d. The duration of anestrus for high-fertility ewes seems to be the shortest reported for temperate sheep breeds.  相似文献

The administration of melatonin via intravaginal sponges is an effective method of advancing the breeding season in ewes. In the present study the fertility of melatonin-treated ewes has been compared with that of ewes induced to ovulate by conventional treatment. On June 25, 15, 15-month-old ewes (group 1) were given intravaginal implants containing melatonin in silastic tubing. On August 8, 13 similar ewes (group 2) were given Veramix sponges which were removed 12 days later, when they were given 500 iu pregnant mare's serum gonadotrophin (PMSG). Two intact raddled rams were introduced to the combined groups on August 21. The mean date of mating was September 3 +/- 1.5 for group 1 and August 21 +/- 0.2 for group 2 ewes. All the ewes in group 1 and 10 in group 2 (77 per cent) were mated. All the ewes were slaughtered approximately 50 days after mating and their reproductive tracts removed. The mean ovulation rates were 2.1 and 2.3 in groups 1 and 2, respectively. The results indicate that conception rates of 87 per cent and 61.5 per cent of ewes put to the ram were obtained in the melatonin-treated and PMSG-treated groups, respectively. At slaughter the melatonin-treated group were found to have a mean of 1.47 live fetuses per ewe put to the ram and the PMSG-treated group a mean of 1.08. It can therefore be concluded that melatonin implantation is an effective method for the advancement of seasonal breeding in anoestrous sheep, and that the fertility achieved is at least as good as that given by conventional progestogen-PMSG treatment.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine prevalence of foot lesions, dermatitis, shoulder lesions, mammary gland abnormalities, and visceral lesions, and body condition scores among culled female swine at slaughter. DESIGN: Observational study. ANIMALS: Culled gilts and sows killed during a 1-week period at a Midwest slaughterhouse. PROCEDURE: Carcasses were examined, and lesions were recorded. Body condition was scored on the basis of standard criteria. RESULTS: 58.9% (1,029/1,747) of the carcasses had foot lesions, 67.3% (1,178/1,751) had dermatitis, and 4.6% (80/1,751) had shoulder lesions. Body condition score was significantly associated with detection of dermatitis and shoulder lesions. Mean +/- SE number of teats (n = 1,432 carcasses) was 13.86 +/- 0.02. Mean numbers of normal-appearing teats in the left and right mammary chains were 6.57 +/- 0.02 and 6.58 +/- 0.02, respectively. Feet from 48% (688/1,433) of the carcasses were condemned. Visceral lesions were found in 48.8% (624/1,278) of the carcasses; of the carcasses with lesions, 412 (66%) had liver spots, and 268 (42.9%) had pneumonia. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: Lesions that potentially could have adversely affected production were found in a large percentage of culled gilts and sows at slaughter. Knowledge of lesions commonly found at slaughter may help direct changes in herd health programs.  相似文献

A 2-yr experiment was conducted to determine whether isolation of ewes from rams is necessary to achieve a high response to the ram effect and whether ewes respond as well in May as in June. The experiment was conducted at two locations, with the same four treatments at each location. The four treatments differed with respect to ewe proximity to rams before mating (isolated vs adjacent) and date of joining with novel breeding rams (May 15 vs June 15). The proximity treatment at one location was changed in the 2nd yr; teaser rams were joined with the ewes instead of being adjacent to them. Overall, 86% of the eligible ewes were judged to have responded to the ram effect. A period of isolation before mating did not increase response compared with ewes that remained adjacent to, or in contact with, rams (86 vs 85%). Response was greater (P less than .05) in June and in the 2nd yr (P = .05). A physiological response, different from that generally described, was identified. Ewes ovulated approximately 8 d (8.0 +/- .19 d) after joining with breeding rams. The subsequent ovulation, accompanied by estrus, occurred approximately 15 d later (15.3 +/- .29 d). Eighty-five percent (87/102) of the ewes sampled responded in this manner. However, 82% (31/38) of a sample of these ewes had at least one morphologically normal corpus luteum when examined by laparoscopy 4 d after joining. It seems that these corpora lutea were not completely functional with respect to progesterone production. The objectives of this study were to determine whether a new progesterone (P4)-releasing intravaginal insert would induce fertile estrus and whether FSH combined with the insert would increase prolificacy in anestrous ewes introduced to rams. Ewes of mixed breeding on six farms were assigned to four randomized treatments: control (C), n = 73; 12 d P4 (polycapralactone [PCL] insert with 0.82 g P4), (P12), n = 73; 12 d P4 plus i.m. FSH (Folltropin, 55 mg NIH-FSH-P1 equivalent) in propylene glycol, 24 h before insert removal, (P12F), n = 71; and 5 d P4 plus FSH (P5F), n = 77. Growth and ovulation of follicles were observed ultrasonographically in 20 ewes at four farms (five/treatment) at insert removal and 36, 48, 72, and 96 h later. Intact rams (1:15 ewes in multiple-sire groups) were joined at insert removal, and raddle marks were observed every 12 h for 5 d. On d 26 to 30, rams were removed; ewes were examined for pregnancy then and 20 d later. Percentage of ewes marked by rams was greater in P4-treated (66 to 79%) than in C (12%; P < 0.01) ewes and in P5F (79%) than in P12F (66%; P < 0.05). Diameters of largest follicles at insert removal were greater (P < 0.05) in P4-treated (5.5 +/- 0.2) than in C ewes (4.8 +/- 0.2). Progesterone increased numbers of follicles > 3 mm (P < 0.01) or ovulated (P < 0.05; 2.6 +/- 0.6 vs 1.3 +/- 0.6 in C ewes) and FSH increased number of follicles > 3 mm (P < 0.05). In FSH-treated ewes, ovulation rate tended to be greater after treatment with P4 for 5 than for 12 d (P = 0.09, 3.3 +/- 0.6 and 2.2 +/- 0.4, respectively). More P4-treated than C ewes lambed (P < 0.01) to the first (38 to 45 vs 0%) or both (63 to 66 vs 41%) service periods. Prolificacy (first service) did not differ between FSH-treated ewes (P12F + P5F; 1.8 +/- 0.1) and ewes treated with P4 only (P12; 1.6 +/- 0.1). However, FSH increased prolificacy to first service (1.8 +/- 0.1) over prolificacy to second service (C ewes 1.5 +/- 0.1; P < 0.05, and all ewes 1.4 +/- 0.1; P < 0.01). Pregnancy retention did not differ among treatments but was greater (P < 0.01) in ewes that conceived at the first (90.9 +/- 3.7) than at the second (72.5 +/- 3.3) service period. In conclusion, a PCL insert in combination with ram introduction at insert removal was more effective than ram introduction alone to induce synchronized estrus and ovulation and to yield pregnancy after one or two service periods. Treatment with P4 for 5 d was as effective as for 12 d to induce fertile estrus in FSH-treated anestrous ewes.  相似文献

Detailed postmortem examinations were conducted to evaluate the efficiency of meat inspection procedures and to determine the distribution of lesions in Mycobacterium bovis-infected cattle. The study involved routine inspection at slaughter, collection of tissues for detailed examination in the laboratory, and bacteriological examination to identify M. bovis. Additionally, a 10-year (1992--2001) meat inspection record was analysed to determine tuberculosis trends in the past decade. chi2-Test and simple regression were used to analyse the data. Out of 1350 cattle examined, 1.5% were found with tuberculous lesions. Routine abattoir inspection detected only 55% of cattle with confirmed lesions. Fifty-four per cent of tuberculous lesions were found in the lungs and thoracic lymph nodes, 23% in the lymph nodes of the head, and the remaining 23% in the mesenteric and other lymph nodes of the carcase. M. bovis was additionally isolated from an animal that had no gross lesions of tuberculosis. On average, the annual rate of whole-carcase condemnation due to generalized tuberculosis was 0.024% and it has increased annually by 0.34% over the past decade. The rate of whole-carcase condemnation indicates a high degree of TB transmission and requires immediate attention from both the economic and public health points of view. The lower sensitivity of routine abattoir inspection confirms the importance of improving necropsy procedures.  相似文献

Lamb growth, survival and carcass characteristics were compared for progeny of either 1/2-Suffolk, 1/2-Rambouillet (Western) ewes or 1/2-Suffolk, 1/4-Rambouillet, 1/4-Finnsheep (1/4-Finn) ewes produced over 3 yr in three different management systems. System 1 lambs were born in late fall and fed to slaughter on a concentrate diet. System 2 lambs were born in January and February and grazed pure stands of alfalfa or ladino clover after weaning. System 3 lambs were born in March and April and remained with their dams on native bluegrass-white clover pasture throughout the grazing season. Lambs were slaughtered as males reached 55 kg and as females reached 50 kg. One-half of the males in System 1 were left intact; all males in Systems 2 and 3 were castrated. Lamb survival did not differ among systems. Lambs from yearling 1/4-Finn ewes had higher survival rates than lambs from yearling Western ewes, but at older ewe ages, progeny of the ewe groups did not differ in survival. Lambs in System 1 grew fastest (mean lifetime gains of 310 +/- 4 g/d) and were youngest at slaughter (156 +/- 3 d), and lambs in System 3 were oldest at slaughter (234 +/- 2 d). System 2 lambs differed considerably among years in growth rate and slaughter age (mean slaughter ages of 191, 230 and 193 d across years), primarily in response to differences in rainfall. Lifetime gains and slaughter ages of lambs did not differ between ewe breeds. Ram lambs grew 15% faster than wethers and were leaner. Differences among systems in carcass traits were small. System 1 lambs tended to be fattest and System 2 lambs leanest. Progeny of 1/4-Finn ewes had higher subjective scores for carcass fatness (e.g., feathering, flank fatness) and conformation but did not differ from progeny of Western ewes in objective measures of fatness (e.g., backfat, yield grade).  相似文献

Data were obtained from a population consisting of 160 Merino ewes, as well as 64 male and 75 female progeny of these ewes at the 2-tooth age. The age and sex groups were maintained in separate flocks. The population has been divergently selected from the same base since 1986, either for (high or H line) or against (low or L line) maternal multiple rearing ability. All animals were inspected for sheep lice (Bovicola ovis) during September/October 2002 after a wool growth period of at least 4 months. When expressed relative to mean L-line performance, the advantage in lambs weaned per ewe during the lambing season amounted to approximately 110% in the H line (1.01 vs 0.48; P < 0.01). The proportion of animals on which 1 or more lice were observed were markedly lower in 2-tooth replacement ewes than in replacement rams and mature breeding ewes (0.053 vs 0.625 and 0.531, respectively; P < 0.01). One or more lice were observed on a lower proportion of H-line ewes than on those of the L line (0.413 vs 0.571, respectively; P < 0.10), while a similar tendency was observed in 2-tooth ewe hoggets (0.033 vs 0.143, respectively; P = 0.16). When the mean number of lice on individuals on which 1 or more lice were observed was compared between lines, the average number of lice observed on H-line young rams was lower than in the L line (4.36 +/- 0.85 vs 9.71 +/- 1.84 lice, respectively; P < 0.01). A similar tendency was observed in mature breeding ewes (2.15 +/- 0.38 vs 3.22 +/- 0.42 lice, respectively; P < 0.20). The more highly reproductive H-line ewes were not more susceptible to infestation with B. ovis than ewes of the L line. In fact, available evidence suggest that H-line animals could be more tolerant of B. ovis than those of the L line.  相似文献

为研究萨福克羊×杜泊羊×湖羊杂交羊(萨杜湖杂交羊)生长发育情况及其对当地生态环境的适应能力,采用生产性能常规测定、显微测定和全自动血液生理生化分析仪分别测定了不同年龄阶段萨杜湖杂交羊的体重、体尺指标、羊毛品质(包括不同部位羊毛的净毛率、细度、有髓毛和无髓毛占比、自然长度和伸直长度等指标)和成年羊血液生理生化指标。结果表明:萨杜湖杂交羊早期生长速度较快,初生阶段及周岁时公羊体斜长均显著高于母羊(P<0.05);3月龄时公羊体高、体斜长和胸围均显著高于母羊(P<0.05);6月龄时母羊体重极显著高于公羊(P<0.01),成年时期公羊体重和体高均显著高于母羊(P<0.05);其余各生长阶段内,公母羊间体重及体尺差异不显著(P>0.05)。其成年时平均净毛率较低,为45.21%;长度适中:平均自然长度为4.55cm,伸直长度为6.22cm;细度良好,为17.60μm。公母羊血液生理生化指标及其同国内绵羊参考值相比存在一定的差异,其中母羊血小板总数(PLT)和血小板压积(PCT)均极显著高于公羊(P<0.01),公羊甘油三酯(TG)和白蛋白(ALB)含量显著高于母羊(P<0.05),其余各项指标均无显著差异(P>0.05)。综上所述,萨杜湖杂交羊在生长发育等方面都有不同程度的改进和提高,本试验结果可为该品种杂交羊进一步开发利用提供参考依据。  相似文献

A previously developed multiple regression algorithm was used as the basis of a stochastic model to simulate worm burdens in sheep naturally infected with Haemonchus contortus over five consecutive Haemonchus seasons (November to January/February) on a farm in the summer rainfall region in South Africa, although only one season is discussed. The algorithm associates haemoglobin levels with worm counts in individual animals. Variables were represented by distributions based on FAMACHA(?) scores and body weights of sheep, and Monte Carlo sampling was used to simulate worm burdens. Under conditions of high disease risk, defined as the sampling event during the worm season with the lowest relative mean haemoglobin level for a class of sheep, the model provided a distribution function for mean class H. contortus burdens and the probability of these occurring. A mean H. contortus burden for ewes (n=130 per sample) of approximately 1000 (range 51-28,768) and 2933 (range 78-44,175) for rams (n=120 per sample) was predicted under these conditions. At the beginning of the worm season when the risk of disease was lowest (i.e. when both classes had their highest estimated mean haemoglobin levels), a mean worm burden of 525 (range 39-4910) for ewes and 651 (range 37-17,260) for rams was predicted. Model indications were that despite being selectively drenched according to FAMACHA(?) evaluation, 72% of the ewes would maintain their mean worm burden below an arbitrarily selected threshold of 1000 even when risk of disease was at its highest. In contrast, far fewer rams (27%) remained below this threshold, especially towards the end of the worm season. The model was most sensitive to changes in haemoglobin value, and thus by extrapolation, the haematocrit, which is used as the gold standard for validating the FAMACHA(?) system. The mean class haemoglobin level at which there was a 50% probability of worm burdens being ≤ 1000 worms was 7.05 g/dl in ewes and 7.92 g/dl in rams.  相似文献

The morphology and distribution of supraependymal structures in the ventricular system of sheep of both sexes were studied by common histological methods. Seven forms of supraependymal structures were distinguished according to shape; they are most frequent and most variable in the infundibular region of the third cerebral ventricle. In the ewes their occurrence in this region depends on the status of the ovarian cycle and in the rams it depends on the year season. The most frequent forms are hemi-spherical to spherical light-coloured protrusions and the so-called blebs: in the ewes they occur during anoestrus and, to a minor extent, during proestrus, and in rams in the "rest" period. In the winter reason (the rest period) the rams have button-like formations on ependyma surface in the infundibular region, and in summer there are finger-like protrusions. No such structures occur in the ewes. A larger part of the supraependymal structures are believed to be products of ependyma secretion which, in the infundibular region but nowhere else, is associated with sex: with the ovarian cycle in the ewes and with the year season in the rams.  相似文献

Six ewe genotypes, generated by mating Coopworth (C), Polypay (P), and Suffolk (S) rams to P and Coopworth-type (Ct) ewes, were exposed to Hampshire rams for spring lambing from 1987 through 1990. Data from 1,013 exposures and 973 resultant lambings were used to analyze reproductive traits and cumulative ewe productivity over 4 yr. Ewe body and fleece weights were also analyzed. Ewes from S sires weaned the heaviest lambs and ewes from P sires weaned the largest number of lambs, resulting in similar total weight of lamb weaned per ewe mated. Coopworth-sired ewes weaned the least total weight of lamb per ewe mated. Ewes weaning twins produced 54% more total litter weight per ewe than those weaning singles. Annual ewe survival averaged 95%, ranging from 93% for S x P and C x P ewes to 97% for P x Ct and C x Ct ewes. When cumulative number and weight of lamb produced was assessed on the basis of all ewes starting the trial, P-sired ewes were highest, followed in order by daughters of S and C sires. Suffolk-sired ewes (67 kg) were 13% heavier than daughters of P rams and 19% heavier than daughters of C rams. Adjustment of lamb production for ewe metabolic body size resulted in C-sired ewes being more efficient than the heavier S-sired ewes. Coopworth-sired ewes produced 32% more wool than ewes sired by the other two breeds. We determined the prevalence of lung and mammary gland lesions associated with maedi-visna (MV) infection, the prevalence of paratuberculosis (PTB), and the prevalence and lesions distribution of caseous lymphadenitis (CL) in culled sheep. Total of 451 ewes and 34 rams were selected randomly from two slaughterhouses in Quebec, Canada. MV serostatus was determined by recombinant ELISA test. PTB diagnosis was based on characteristic histological lesions in the terminal ileum, ileocecal lymph node and/or ileocecal valve and CL by gross detection of abscesses and isolation of Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis. Seroprevalence of MV was 44% (95% CI: 40, 48). Seropositivity increased with age and was higher in ewes than in rams. The percentages of lung and mammary gland lesions in seropositive sheep were 14 and 40%, respectively, but mammary gland lesions lack specificity. The prevalence of PTB was 3% (95% CI: 2, 5). PTB increased with age and was lower among sheep with abscesses. The prevalence of CL was >/=21% (95% CI: 17, 24). The most-prevalent site of caseous lymphadenitis lesions was the thoracic cavity. The risk of carcass condemnation was significantly associated with region, body score and abscesses. Only the presence of abscesses was associated with an increase in trimming of carcasses.  相似文献

In a field trial, 9174 lambs from seven commercial sheep flocks with a history of subclinical pneumonia were either vaccinated with Ovipast Plus (Intervet) or given a placebo by systematic random allocation; they were vaccinated twice at an interval of four to six weeks and grazed on pasture in the same paddocks. They were weighed at the first vaccination, 11 and 23 weeks later, and one to three days before they were slaughtered. The extent of the pneumonic lesions in their lungs was scored visually postmortem. A subset of pneumonic lung samples was examined bacteriologically and histopathologically. There were no statistically significant differences between the pneumonic lesions at slaughter or the mean average daily weight gains of the vaccinated and placebo-treated lambs between 11 and 23 weeks or between first vaccination and slaughter. The vaccinated lambs had a lower mean daily gain between first vaccination and 11 weeks. The extent of pneumonic lesions at slaughter was negatively correlated with the mean daily gain between first vaccination and slaughter. There were no significant differences between the frequency of isolation of Mannheimia (Pasteurella) haemolytica and Pasteurella trehalosi or the histopathological classification of disease between pneumonic lung samples from the placebo-treated and vaccinated lambs.  相似文献

Fine-wool ewes received for 2 yr a complete pelleted basal diet (11% protein) or the basal diet fortified with 3.5% cottonseed meal (CSM; 12% protein) or gamma-irradiated (1 megarad) dried solids (SS; 12% protein) from primary (undigested) sewage (Las Cruces, New Mexico, municipal sewage). Five ewes fed each diet were sampled to determine Ag, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, P, Pb and Zn in blood, milk and tissues. Tissues and blood were sampled at slaughter 40 d after weaning of lambs. Mean whole blood mineral concentrations were similar (P less than .05) among treatments 3 d postpartum; however, at 42 d after lambing (mean +/- SE) both basal- (54 +/- 2 micrograms/ml) and sewage-fed (54 +/- 2 micrograms/ml) ewes had elevated (P less than .05) blood Ca compared with ewes fed CSM (46 +/- 2 micrograms/ml). No biologically important differences were detected in the concentrations of elements in milk. Ewes fed SS had lower (P less than .05) blood Fe than animals in the other groups. Sewage-fed ewes also had higher (P less than .05) liver Fe (1,092 +/- 100 micrograms/g) than basal-fed ewes (626 +/- 100 micrograms/g); whereas Fe in CSM-fed ewes (873 +/- 100 micrograms/g) was similar to both. Basal-fed animals had 1.1- to 1.3 times more (P less than .05) liver Mg and two- to threefold higher liver Na than CSM or SS. Livers from SS-fed ewes had higher concentrations (P less than .05) of Cd (1.5- to 1.6-times) and Pb (1.4- to 1.9-times) than livers from CSM- or basal-fed ewes.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
