A decline in public sector extension services in developing countries has led to an increasing emphasis on alternative extension approaches that are participatory, demand-driven, client-oriented, and farmer centered. One such approach is the volunteer farmer-trainer (VFT) approach, a form of farmer-to-farmer extension where VFTs host demonstration plots and share information on improved agricultural practices within their community. VFTs are trained by extension staff and they in turn train other farmers. A study was conducted to understand the rationale behind the decisions of smallholder farmers to volunteer their time and resources to train other farmers without pay and to continue volunteering. Data were gathered through focus group discussions and individual interviews involving 99 VFTs. Findings of the study showed that VFTs were motivated by a combination of personal and community interests that were influenced by religious beliefs, cultural norms, and social and economic incentives. Altruism, gaining knowledge and skills, and social benefits were the most frequently mentioned motivating factors for becoming VFTs.3 years after starting, the income earned from selling associated inputs and services was also a main motivating factor. There were no significant differences between motivating factors for men and women VFTs. The findings point to the fact that VFTs work effectively without being paid, but investments in human, social, and financial capital are crucial to keeping them motivated. These factors are key to ensuring the sustainability of farmer-to-farmer extension programs beyond the projects’ lifespan.  相似文献

[目的]总结广西县(市)科技工作成效和经验做法,以进一步推动广西县(市)科技工作,并使之更好地为发展生产、改善民生服务.[方法]在文献分析和调查分析的基础上,系统总结广西县(市)科技工作的成效及主要做法,分析当前广西县(市)科技工作存在的主要问题,提出进一步推动广西县市科技进步的建议.[结果]广西县(市)科技工作推动了县(市)科技进步、带动农民致富和财政增收、促进县域优势特色农业产业发展、增强了县域科技管理服务能力.主要做法包括加强科技兴县(市)工作的组织领导、构建县域科技创新体系、增强并拓展县(市)自身科技服务能力、营造基层科技进步工作环境等.但仍存在科技投入明显低于全国平均水平、管理机构不够健全和队伍不够稳定、地级市通过考核率较低、市(县)党政领导科技进步目标责任制考核尚未完全到位、县(市)参加科技进步考核的动力不足等问题.[建议]广西县(市)科技进步工作可从着力提升科技促进县(市)特色优势产业发展能力和县(市)科技成果转化推广能力、提高企业技术创新能力和农村科技服务能力、大力推进科技特派员农村科技创业行动、进一步提升县(市)科技管理能力以及强化组织管理、加大支持投入、加强宣传、建立健全激励机制等方面进行推动.  相似文献

农业产业化龙头企业在带动农民就业增收方面作用显著,为寻找影响农业企业带动农户的最终关键因子,利用福建省87家农业龙头企业2007—2011年的面板数据,首先运用随机前沿函数法(SFA)对影响福建省农业产业化龙头企业带动农户的内部因素和数值型的外部因素进行分析,然后再利用测算出的农业企业带动农户效率,运用方差分析法对其品质型的外部因素进行差异化分析,进而找到了关键影响因素。  相似文献

Parabiont rat pairs with a skin-vascular anastomosis were used to test for a radiation-induced transferable humoral factor which would motivate aversive conditioning in a nonirradiated (shielded) recipient. The shielded partner, by tasting saccharinflavored fluid shortly after its partner was x-irradiated (360 roentgens), was aversively conditioned to saccharin. Technology adoption in precision agriculture has received considerable attention, while abandonment has received little. Survey data are now available to evaluate adoption and abandonment decisions. Understanding the factors motivating technology adoption and abandonment has implications for educational efforts directed toward improving the efficiency of production inputs and for research and development to improve the value of precision agriculture technologies. The objective of this research was to identify factors motivating the adoption and abandonment of grid soil sampling in precision cotton production. These decisions were evaluated assuming a random utility model. Data were obtained from a 2005 survey of cotton producers in 11 Southeastern states in the USA. Results from limited dependent variable regressions indicate that younger producers who farmed more cotton area, owned more of their cropland, planted larger amounts of non-cotton area, used a computer for farm management and used a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) in the field were more likely to adopt grid soil sampling for cotton precision farming. Results also suggest that producers with more cotton area who owned livestock and adopted management zone soil sampling were more likely to abandon grid soil sampling, while those who used a PDA in the field, used grid soil sampling for more years and followed up grid soil sampling with variable-rate fertilizer application were less likely to abandon grid soil sampling for cotton production.  相似文献

Xenopus laevis is a prime system for the study of embryogenesis in vertebrates. Both prelocalized information in the egg and inductive interactions between cells contribute to the ordered increase in complexity during development. Embryonic induction, discovered in amphibians, is being studied intensely in Xenopus; recent work suggests a role for growth factors in this process. Contributions of the Xenopus system to the analysis of ribosomal and 5S RNA genes, and the diverse and highly productive applications of the oocyte injection technology, are also summarized.  相似文献

生态系统物种多样性与生态系统的稳定性是不是正相关,多样性怎样导致稳定性。从生态系统抗拒外界环境因子振荡,保持能流物流稳定的功能角度来看,其多样性与稳定性的关系,可以用系统工程学关于技术设备系统复杂性与可靠性的关系原理加以说明。这时要进行结构分析,区分串连结构和并连结构。串连结构中,复杂性与可靠性呈负相关。并连结构中,复杂性导致冗余储备的增加,与可靠性呈正相关。生态系统物种的复杂性和多样性,大部分表现为构成并连结构,提高系统冗余度,因而能增强系统可靠工作的稳定性。从生态系统内部诸要素相互关系涨落的内激稳定性角度来看,则完善负反馈调节控制机制以及通过遗传反馈实现协同进化,能够把复杂性转变为稳定性。  相似文献
