This study investigated the effects of coconut oil as a dietary supplement on the growth, lipid metabolism and related gene expressions of juvenile orange‐spotted grouper Epinephelus coioides. Coconut oil at concentrations of 0, 10, 30 and 50 g/kg was used to replace dietary lipids in a basal diet containing 150 g/kg lipids. The four experimental diets were, respectively, fed to triplicate groups of juvenile groupers (initial weight: 8.53 ± 0.13 g) in a recirculating system for 8 weeks. Fish fed the diet containing 50 g/kg coconut oil exhibited lower (p < .05) weight gain than did fish fed the diet containing 30 g/kg coconut oil; however, no significant differences in weight gain were observed between fish fed diets containing 0 and 10 g/kg coconut oil. Hepatic carnitine palmitoyltransferase‐1, fatty acid synthase, fatty acid elongase, fatty acid desaturase and peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor gamma gene expressions were all the highest in fish fed the diet containing 10 g/kg coconut oil. Fish fed the coconut oil‐free basal diet demonstrated upregulated gene expression of neuropeptide Y. The results suggest that dietary supplementation with 10 g/kg coconut oil exerted beneficial effects on lipid metabolism by E. coioides.  相似文献

The effects of dietary medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA) on survival, growth and fatty acid composition of first-feeding carp larvae were investigated in two 21-day feeding trials. In trial 1, one diet CO was supplemented with 10% coconut oil, two diets, M1 and M2 with 1.7 or 4.2% interesterified medium-chain triacylglycerols (MCT), and two other diets T1 and T2 with 1% tricaprylin and 0.7% tricaprin, or 2.5% tricaprylin and 1.7% tricaprin. The five diets were made isolipidic (18% of dry diet) with triolein and compared to a control diet without MCFA. With a low dietary level (1% of dry diet) of caprylic acid (C8:0), final survival and mean weight of larvae fed CO, M1 and T1 were not significantly different from those of control (68 ± 6% and 62 ± 8 mg, respectively). In contrast, with a high dietary C8:0 level (2.5% of dry diet), final survival and mean weight of larvae fed M2 and T2 were markedly decreased (23 ± 2% and 40 ± 8 mg, respectively), without effect of the form of supply. In trial 2, larvae were fed six diets with graded tricaprylin contents (from 0 to 10% in diet). Survival was not significantly affected but growth was decreased by C8:0 levels higher than 2% of dry diet. Fatty acid composition of larval total lipids revealed high levels of lauric and myristic acids in larvae fed coconut oil. Deposition of C8:0 and capric acid (C10:0) was low after MCT feeding, but depended of the form of supply, being higher with pure than with interesterified MCT. Relatively high amounts of C8:0 and C10:0 were recorded in total lipids of larvae fed 10% tricaprylin. It is concluded that high levels of caprylic acid decrease growth but that low levels are well utilised by carp larvae, irrespective of the form of supply.  相似文献

Simultaneous, 6-week feeding trials were conducted in which diets containing menhaden, corn, coconut and hydrogenated menhaden oil at 7.0%, plus a diet containing 14% menhaden oil, were fed to triplicate groups of juvenile red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) at two different salinities (5 and 32%.). Weight gain was significantly (p < 0.05) affected by diet and salinity. Fish fed the diet containing 14% menhaden oil had the greatest weight gain; whereas, fish fed the diet containing coconut oil gained the least weight. Fish in brackish water had significantly greater weight gain than fish in full-strength seawater over the 6-week period, although fish fed coconut and saturated menhaden oil in brackish water had reduced survival. Dietary lipid also significantly affected muscle and liver total lipid, hepatosomatic index (HSI), and intraperitoneal fat (IPF) ratio, as fish fed the diets containing 14% menhaden oil had higher values for all of these body condition indices.After the feeding trial, fish were subjected to a chronic cold tolerance assay. In the chronic trial, where temperature was gradually reduced over a 3-week period, fish fed the diets containing menhaden oil had significantly lower median lethal temperatures (MLT) than those fish fed the diets containing coconut, corn and saturated menhaden oils. No significant effects of cold exposure were observed on muscle and liver total lipid. Cold exposure prompted a modification in lipid metabolism by lowering total saturated fatty acids and raising (n – 3) highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA) in the neutral lipid of liver. Fish with the lowest MLT in the chronic assay exhibited signs of conserving (n – 3) HUFA and depleting (n – 6) fatty acids [primarily 18:2 (n – 6)], resulting in higher (n – 3)/(n – 6) ratios in the polar lipid of liver. These data suggest that the lower lethal temperature of juvenile red drum can be reduced through dietary manipulation involving the inclusion of high levels of dietary lipid rich in (n – 3) HUFA.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the optimum phospholipids: highly unsaturated fatty acids (PL/HUFA) ratio in maturation diets for female Chinese mitten crab, Eriocheir sinensis broodstock. Five isolipidtic and isonitrogenous diets were formulated to contain different amounts of pork lard, fish oil and soy lecithin with resulting PL/HUFA levels (%dry weight) of 1.4/0.3 (Diet 1), 1.6/2.5 (Diet 2), 2.3/2.0 (Diet 3), 3.8/1.5 (Diet 4) and 5.1/0.8 (Diet 5). Diet 1 lacked supplemental fish oil and soy lecithin and served as the control. Each of the five formulated diets was fed to a total of 150 female crabs for a period of 7 months. All diet treatments were triplicated with 50 crabs stocked in a pond as a replicate. After 6 months, male crabs were introduced into the ponds where females were kept, mating, spawning and egg hatching (in seawater) occurred in the following month. The nutritional value of various formulated diets was assessed based on survival, gonadosomatic index (GSI), egg production per female, fecundity (eggs/g female weight) of the females fed those diets and egg and larval (newly hatched zoea I larvae) quality.Females fed Diet 1 had the lowest GSI, egg production per female and fecundity while no significant difference were found for survival, hepatosomatic index (HSI) and the percentage of female spawned among the diet treatments (> 0.05). Although there were no significant differences in egg diameter, egg wet or dry weights among all treatments (> 0.05), the highest and the second highest proportions of essential fatty acids (EFA), i.e. 20:5n-3 (EPA), 22:6n-3 (DHA) and HUFA were found in the eggs produced by the females fed Diet 3 and Diet 2, respectively. Statistical analysis showed that EPA, DHA and HUFA in eggs produced by females fed Diet 3 were significantly higher than those from the other treatments (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, zoea I larvae from crabs fed Diet 3 had significantly larger carapace length than those from the other four treatments (< 0.05). The zoea I larvae from crabs fed Diet 2 and Diet 3 also showed generally better tolerance to starvation and osmotic shock.In conclusion, our results indicated that diet included levels of PL/HUFA around 1.6/2.5 or 2.3/2.0 (% dry weight) fed female E. sinensis broodstock supported increased fecundity and elevated level of HUFA in egg, which in turn resulted in improved overall quality of newly hatched larvae.  相似文献

A 12‐week growth trial was conducted with gibel carp Carassius auratus gibelio (initial weight: 2.69 g) to evaluate the effects of dietary n‐3 highly unsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 HUFA) on growth performance and tissue fatty acid composition. Five diets of different n‐3 HUFA levels from 0 to 17 g kg?1 diet were supplemented at 80 g kg?1 dietary lipid by including fish oil (FO) at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of supplemental lipid. The remainder was coconut oil. The results showed that fish fed FO25 and FO50 obtained highest specific growth rate and lowest with FO0. Feed efficiency was highest at FO100 and lowest at FO0. Apparent digestibility coefficient of lipid increased with increasing dietary n‐3 HUFA. The fish fed FO0 diet had the lowest thiobarbituric acid reactive substance in serum and muscle and highest moisture and lowest lipid content in viscera. Fatty acid compositions of muscle and liver were correlated with dietary fatty acids. Fish muscle concentration of 20:5n‐3 increased with increasing dietary n‐3 HUFA while the concentration of 22:6n‐3 was distinctly reduced in FO0 group. It suggested that 4 g kg?1 n‐3 HUFA in diet could permit gibel carp normal growth performance and provide considerable n‐3 HUFA in fish muscle. Excessive n‐3 HUFA showed impact on growth performance of gibel carp.  相似文献

The effect of three crude dietary lipid levels (4, 8, and 12%) on egg quality of the female redclaw crayfish, Cherax quadricarinatus, was evaluated. Three replicate groups of 40 crayfish (mean initial weight ± SD, 23.0 ± 3.0 g) per diet treatment were stocked in 15,000 ‐L tanks, at 28 C. After 75 d of culture, there were significant differences (P < 0.001) in egg area (3.52–3.90 mm2), volume (34.0–39.3 mm3), weight (4.81–5.36 mg), and diameter (2.15–2.27 mm) in response to dietary lipids in the diet. Using the quadratic equation, the maximum responses of these parameters corresponded to lipid levels from 8.60–8.84%. There were no significant differences (P > 0.05) in survival (82.1–86.9%), final weight (41.0–43.7 g), number of spawning females (18.12–27.38%), and fecundity (9.07–10.31 eggs/g female). Additionally, there were no significant differences (P > 0.05) in egg mean protein (2306.87 ± 440.08 μg/egg), lipid (441.95 ± 83.23 μg/egg) and carbohydrate (74.81 ± 10.12 μg/egg) contents, and energy (13.49 ± 2.25 kcal/egg). The optimum overall response was obtained for dietary lipid content of 8.7%, which we recommend to optimize egg quality of this freshwater crayfish.  相似文献

We investigated the effect of high levels of n−3 highly unsaturated fatty acids (n−3 HUFA) in broodstock diet on egg quality and chemical composition of eggs of Japanese flounder. The broodstock were fed diets containing three levels of n−3 HUFA (2.1%, 4.8% or 6.2%) 2 months before and during the spawning period. No significant difference was found for weight gain of broodstock among the treatments. Egg production was highest in fish fed the highest level of n−3 HUFA. However, egg quality parameters, such as percentage of buoyant eggs, hatching rate and percentage of normal larvae, were significantly higher in the group fed the lowest n−3 HUFA diet. The fatty acid composition of eggs was influenced more markedly in the neutral lipid fraction than in the polar lipid fraction by dietary n−3 HUFA levels. Arachidonic acid (AA; 20:4n−6) and egg quality parameters both decreased with increasing dietary n−3 HUFA levels. The results suggest that a high level of n−3 HUFA in broodstock diet negatively affects egg quality of Japanese flounder.  相似文献

Two experiments addressed the spontaneous spawning of red snapper, Lutjanus campechanus , under controlled temperatures and photoperiods and the effect of broodstock diets supplemented with oils rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids. In Experiment 1, broodfish were fed a standard diet (ST1) and one enriched with menhaden oil (ER1) over a 355-d period. ER1-influenced egg fatty acid profile, however, did not positively influence egg production. Both diets produced highly viable eggs and larvae but results varied within treatments. In Experiment 2, broodfish were fed either a standard diet (ST2) or one supplemented with oils (ER2) rich in docosahexaenoic and arachidonic acid using a 203-d cycle. Both treatments produced eggs but fertilization rates ranged 0–10%. There was no clear influence of the diets on egg fatty acid profiles. These results indicate that red snapper can spawn spontaneously in tanks under controlled environmental conditions and produce viable eggs and larvae when fed diets based on squid, shrimp, and fish. The fatty acid composition of the diets was reflected in the eggs to some degree, but the oil enrichments did not further enhance the reproductive performance and egg quality under the conditions of this study.  相似文献

A 309 days feeding experiment was carried out on gilthead sea bream fingerlings (initial weight 14.7±4.4 g) to evaluate effects of substitution of fish oil with soybean oil in diets on growth and sensory characteristics and muscle fatty acid composition. Duplicate groups of fish were hand fed with four isoenergetic and isonitrogenous diets (46% protein, 14% lipid and 22 MJ kg−1) in which 0%, 24%, 48% or 72% of the fish oil was replaced by soybean oil. Fish fed diet 72% reached a lower final weight (324 g) than fish fed diets 0%, 24% and 48% (349, 343 and 338 g respectively). Feed intake, protein efficiency ratio, body composition and economic profitability were not influenced by the amount of soybean oil in the diets, but muscle fatty acid composition differed with diets. Panellists observed significant sensory differences between fish fed diet 0% and diet 72%. These results verified the possibility of feeding sea bream until they reached commercial weight with a 48% dietary substitution of fish oil for soybean oil.  相似文献

通过投喂添加或不添加VE、VC和HUFA的四组实验饲料,经198d饲养实验,以雌蟹的性腺系数、产卵力、孵化率、各组织超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)活性和过氧化产物丙二醛(MDA)含量等为指标,研究这两类营养素交互作用对其生殖性能的影响。结果表明,VE、VC和HUFA对雌蟹生殖性能有显著的影响(P<0.05):在产卵力方面,1组为3790个卵细胞·g-1体重,极显著高于2组(为2317个卵细胞·g-1体重)和3组(为2129个卵细胞·g-1体重)(P<0.01),显著高于4组(为3050个卵细胞·g-1体重)和5组(对照组)(为3010个卵细胞·g-1体重)(P<0.05);而孵化率方面,1组(86.17%)极显著高于2组(36.06%)、3组(29.18%)和4组(25.73%)(P<0.01),也显著高于5组(71.12%)(P<0.05)。1组和2组雌蟹性腺中SOD活性分别为40.09Nu·mL-1和39.87Nu·mL-1,相应地,MDA含量分别为6.87nmol·mL-1和3.33nmol·mL-1;而3组和4组雌蟹,尽管其性腺中SOD活性较高,分别为79.21Nu·mL-1和85.2Nu·mL-1,但由于饲料中抗氧化性VE、VC的缺乏,导致脂质过氧化发生,其MDA含量显著增加(P<0.05),分别为12.65nmol·mL-1和25.18nmol·mL-1。4组雌蟹的产卵力较大,但因VE、VC的缺乏发生脂质过氧化,导致所产的卵质低下,从而影响了卵子的孵化率。结果表明,VE、VC和HUFA都是河蟹保持良好的生殖性能的必需营  相似文献

A study was undertaken to investigate the effects of graded dietary levels and different types of carnitine on hybrid striped bass (Morone chrysops × M. saxatilis %) fed different levels of lipid. An incomplete factorial design was utilized in which diets containing lipid at either 5 or 10% were supplemented with l-carnitine at 0, 500, or 1000 mg kg–1 diet, dl-carnitine at 1000 mg kg–1 diet, or carnitine chloride to provide 1000 mg carnitine kg–1 diet. Juvenile hybrid striped bass (3.3 g fish–1) were stocked into individual 38-l aquaria connected as a brackish water (6), recirculating system and fed each diet in triplicate for 9 weeks.Supplementation of the diet with 1000 mg carnitine kg–1 increased muscle carnitine from 35.5 to 47.7 g g–1 tissue. Carnitine supplementation did not result in increased weight gain regardless of carnitine level or type; however, weight gain showed a significant (p<0.05) response to dietary lipid with fish fed diets containing 10% lipid growing 34% more than fish fed diets with 5% lipid. The hepatosomatic index also was unaffected by diet, but the intraperitoneal fat (IPF) ratio was significantly elevated (5.1 vs 3.2%) in fish fed diets with 10% lipid compared to those fed diets with 5% lipid. Fish fed diets containing 1000 mg carnitine kg–1 had increased IPF ratio values at 4.7% compared to 3.9% for fish fed the basal diet. Liver lipid also was responsive to dietary treatment, increasing from 6.7 to 8.8% of wet weight as dietary lipid increased from 5 to 10%. The relative quantities of triglycerides, free fatty acids and phospholipids in muscle and liver were not influenced by carnitine level, carnitine type or dietary lipid level. Supplementation of carnitine does not appear to be beneficial to hybrid striped bass based on either growth performance or body composition.  相似文献

Rainbow trout were fed either a commercial diet or semi-purified diets containing 8% by weight of either cod liver oil, grape seed oil or hydrogenated coconut oil. Important changes in the fatty acid composition of erythrocyte membrane phospholipids were induced by these dietary fats. No changes were seen in the cholesterol/phospholipid ratio and in the cellular ATP level. Shape changes (crenation of cell margin and shrinkage) were only seen in trout fed hydrogenated coconut oil in connection with an accumulation of high amounts of (n-9) fatty acids including 20:3 (n-9) phospholipids. The compositional changes affect the stability of the erythrocyte membrane. An increased rate of osmotic hemolysis appeared to be associated with an increased unsaturated fatty acid content of the membranes.  相似文献

Two 40-day feeding trials using extruded diets were conducted to assess the effect of a dietary phospholipid (PL) supplementation on growth, survival and fatty acid composition of European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) and turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) from weaning onwards. Two dietary treatments (FO and PL) were tested; both had an identical extruded basis (92.5% total diet weight) coated with a different lipid fraction (7.5% total diet weight). Diet PL contained 2% egg yolk PL (69% pure). In diet FO the PL was replaced by hydrogenated coconut oil. The isolipidic diets contained an equal amount of fish oil ethyl esters providing 1.6% (% diet dry weight) of n-3 highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA). A diet water stability test showed no effect of the PL supplementation on the leaching of the dietary fatty acids. In both fish species weight, but not survival, significantly increased as a result of PL supplementation. Weaning onto the experimental diets resulted in similar changes in the relative percent levels of fatty acids in both species. In general, the percentage of saturated fatty acids levelled off after a rapid increase, while monoenes increased after an initial decrease. Total n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) decreased and total n-6 PUFA remained almost constant. The major effect of the dietary PL on fish fatty acid composition was a 50% increase in n-6 and n-3 HUFAs compared to the PL-free FO diet. The rise in n-6 HUFA may have reflected the higher moiety in the dietary PL. On the other hand this was not the case for the n-3 HUFA since they represented only low levels in the PL fraction (0.1%) compared to that provided by the ethyl esters (1.6%) suggesting a more efficient incorporation of the PL n-3 HUFA than of the ethyl ester n-3 HUFA. A second hypothesis is that the dietary PL may have favored the incorporation of the dietary ethyl ester n-3 HUFA.  相似文献

This study assessed the suitability and cost efficacy of an equal blend of canola oil (CO) and poultry fat (PF) as a supplemental dietary lipid source for juvenile Atlantic salmon. Quadruplicate groups of Atlantic salmon (~400 g) held in 4000 L outdoor fibreglass tanks supplied with running (35–40 L min?1), aerated (dissolved oxygen, 7.88–10.4 mg L?1), ambient temperature (8.6–10.9°C) sea water (salinity, 26–35 g L?1) were fed twice daily to satiation one of three extruded dry pelleted diets of equivalent protein (488–493 g kg?1 dry matter) and lipid (267–274 g kg?1 dry matter) content for 84 days. The diets were identical in composition except for the supplemental lipid (234.7 g kg?1) source viz., 100% anchovy oil (AO; diet COPF‐0), 70.2% AO and 29.8% CO and PF (diet COPF‐30), and 40.3% AO and 59.7% CO and PF (diet COPF‐60). Atlantic salmon growth rate, feed intake, feed efficiency, protein and gross energy utilization, percent survival and whole body and fillet proximate compositions were not affected by diet treatment. Cost per kilogram weight gain was about 10% less for fish fed diet COPF‐60 than for diet COPF‐0. Percentages of saturated fatty acids in dietary and fillet lipids varied narrowly. Moreover, percentages of 18:1n‐9, monounsaturated fatty acids, 18:2n‐6, n‐6 fatty acids, 18:3n‐3, and ratios of n‐6 to n‐3 fatty acids in the flesh lipids were directly related to the dietary level of CO and PF whereas 22:6n‐3, the total of 20:5n‐3 (eicosapentaenoic acid; EPA) and 22:6n‐3 (docosahexaenoic acid; DHA), and n‐3 fatty acids revealed the opposite trend. Percentages of 22:6n‐3, EPA and DHA, and n‐3 fatty acids were significantly depressed in fish fed diet COPF‐60 versus diet COPF‐0. We conclude that a 1:1 blend of CO and PF is an excellent cost‐effective dietary source of supplemental lipid for Atlantic salmon in sea water.  相似文献

为了评估饲料中花生四烯酸(arachidonic acid,ARA)水平对凡纳滨对虾免疫相关基因表达及抗菌能力的影响,分别以鱼油和混合植物油为脂肪源,设计了2个系列共9组不同ARA含量的等氮等能,且具备相同饱和脂肪酸(SFA)、单不饱和脂肪酸(MUFA)、多不饱和脂肪酸(PUFA)和n-3/n-6比例的实验饲料,投喂对虾6周后,检测各组对虾在急性感染溶藻弧菌0、24、36和42 h时鳃组织中Toll受体、IMD(immune deficiency)和溶菌酶m RNA表达量,并统计感染后96 h内对虾的死亡情况。结果表明:1对虾摄食以鱼油为脂肪源的饲料[饲料DHA(22:6n-3)和EPA(20:5n-3)含量分别为5.85和3.83 mg/g饲料],其鳃组织中Toll受体、IMD和溶菌酶m RNA表达量均随饲料中ARA含量的升高呈现先升高后下降的变化;0.56(B组)和0.87 mg ARA/g饲料组(C组)对虾溶菌酶m RNA表达量显著高于0.44(A组)、1.02(D组)和0.28 mg ARA/g饲料组(E组)(P0.05);对虾摄食以植物混合油为脂肪源的饲料(DHA和EPA含量分别为3.28和1.87 mg/g饲料),其鳃组织中Toll受体、IMD和溶菌酶m RNA表达量随饲料中ARA含量的升高而升高;1.44 mg ARA/g饲料组(I组)对虾Toll受体m RNA表达量显著高于0.19 mg ARA/g饲料组(F组)(P0.05)。2人工急性感染溶藻弧菌后,各组对虾鳃组织中Toll受体、IMD和溶菌酶m RNA的表达量随感染进程均出现显著变化。摄食以鱼油为脂肪源的饲料时,对虾鳃组织中Toll受体、IMD和溶菌酶m RNA表达量峰值均出现在0.56 mg ARA/g饲料组(B组),且峰值分别出现在感染后24、42和24 h。摄食以混合植物油为脂肪源的饲料时,对虾鳃组织中Toll受体、IMD和溶菌酶m RNA表达量峰值均出现在1.44 mg ARA/g饲料组(I组),且峰值分别出现在感染后24、42和36 h。3各实验组对虾急性感染溶藻弧菌后96 h累积死亡率无显著差异。本研究表明,饲料ARA水平影响凡纳滨对虾免疫相关基因(Toll受体、IMD和溶菌酶)的表达,且ARA调控免疫基因表达的效果受饲料EPA和DHA水平的影响。  相似文献

The effect of increasing levels of dietary phospholipids (PL) on the ovarian development and reproductive performance of Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis were investigated using four semipurified formulated diets supplemented with 0%, 1.2%, 2.4%, and 3.6% PL. Four groups of 40 females, with an average individual body weight of 95–120 g, were fed the experimental diets for a period of 7 months. Male crabs were introduced into the female rearing system in March, and mating, spawning, and egg hatching occurred in the following month. After 10 weeks of feeding, females fed the diet with 2.4% PL had a significantly higher gonadosomatic index (GSI) than females fed the diet with 0% PL, whereas females fed the diet with 1.2% PL had a significantly higher hepatic moisture content and lower hepatic lipid content than the other groups (< 0.05). After mating, the spawning rate was higher among females fed diets with 3.6% and 2.4% PL (95% and 92%, respectively) compared with females fed diets with 0% and 1.2% PL (both 81%). The results showed that egg production (total number of eggs/female) and fecundity increased with increasing dietary PL level, with females fed diets with 0% and 1.2% PL supplementation having significantly lower values than females fed the diet with 3.6% PL (< 0.05). In conclusion, our results suggest that dietary PL supplementation has a positive effect on ovarian development and reproductive performance of E. sinensis broodstock. Further study should aim to investigate the optimal PL level in the broodstock diet of E. sinensis in respect to offspring quality.  相似文献

This study examined the fatty acid composition of cobia Rachycentron canadum eggs and yolksac larvae, as well as the ovaries of wild caught females as an initial guide to lipid nutritional requirements. A 2-wk feeding study also was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of four dietary treatments on the growth and survival of cobia larvae. Cobia eggs in the tailbud stage contained 31.4 ± 1.3 μg lipid/egg. After hatching, the amount of lipid decreased significantly (P < 0.05) from 28.3 ± 0.3 to 23.2 ± 0.1 μg lipid/larvae during the yolksac larval stage (days 1 to 3 after hatching). Ovaries from wild caught adults and captive spawned eggs and yolksac larvae contained high levels of PUFAs with docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and arachidonic acid (ARA) accounting for approximately 80% of the total suggesting that cobia larvae may have a high dietary requirement for these fatty acids. For the feeding study, larvae were fed: 1) Artemia only; 2) enriched rotifers for 1 d only + microparticulate diet (day 313); 3) enriched rotifers for 3 d (day 3–5) + Artemia (day 3–13); and 4) enriched rotifers for 6 d (day 3–8) + Artemia (day 3–13). Cobia larvae began feeding on rotifers 3 d after hatching and on newly hatched Artemia nauplii by the fifth day following the onset of exogenous feeding (day 7). On day 7, no differences in larval growth were found among larvae fed rotifers for 3 versus 6 d, whereas larvae fed only Artemia or rotifers for I d followed by microparticulate diet were significantly smaller (P < 0.05) and did not survive beyond day 9 and 13, respectively. The results of the feeding study indicate that cobia larvae require rotifers for a minimum of 4 d following the onset of exogenous feeding.  相似文献

The influence of broodstock dietary lipids on egg quality and egg fatty acid composition throughout the spawning season of gilthead seabream was investigated. For this purpose, the fish were fed for 7 months either a control diet (diet C) or a diet deficient in n−3 highly unsaturated fatty acids (n−3 HUFA) but rich in both oleic (18:1n−9) and linolenic (18:3n−3) acids (diet D). Eggs spawned by both groups of fish were sampled at the beginning, middle and end of the spawning season and the fatty acid composition of their neutral (NL) and polar lipids (PL) determined. In the early season, percentages of fertilized and hatched eggs, relative proportions of NL and PL as well as their fatty acid compositions, were not affected by the lipid composition of the broodstock diet. However, the eggs spawned during the middle and late seasons showed marked differences among the two groups of fish, clearly reflecting the influence of dietary fatty acids. This influence was more evident in the neutral lipid fraction than in the polar lipids. No correlation was found between the number of buoyant eggs and eicosapentaenoic (20:5n−3, EPA), docosahexaenoic (22:6n−3, DHA) fatty acids or total n−3 HUFA contents in egg phospholipids. However, a negative correlation was detected when percentages of fertilized eggs were compared with the levels of 18:1n−9, 18:3n−3 and with the ratio 18:1n−9/n−3 HUFA present in the phospholipids. Our results indicate the importance of maintaining not only the level of n−3 HUFA in egg membrane phospholipids, but also the balance between n−3 HUFA and other fatty acids such as 18:1n−9 and 18:3n−3, in order to obtain a high spawning quality.  相似文献

Interest in the commercial production of cobia Rachycentron canadum continues to rise as additional insight is gained into the hardy and fast growing nature of this species. However, research regarding the biochemical composition of captive-spawned eggs and egg and larval quality remains scarce. Such data is essential as a common bottleneck to production is a steady supply of fingerlings for grow-out. This study quantified the biochemical composition and quality of cobia eggs produced over 2 spawning seasons by broodstock on a traditional ‘trash fish’ diet which is commonly fed to tank spawning cobia. Throughout the study, batch fecundity, proportion of floating eggs and percent hatch averaged > 1 million eggs,  0.8 and 70%, respectively. Batch fecundity was significantly higher during the second spawning season as a result of the increased size of the females which weighed 18/22 kg and 22/26 kg at the beginning of each season. A positive correlation was found between the proportion of floating eggs and hatch rate for both spawning seasons. No correlations were found between egg composition (total lipid (30.0 ± 1.1% dry wt), protein (25.4 ± 2.2% dry wt), carbohydrate (2.4 ± 0.3% dry wt), vitamin E (10.2 ± 0.6 μg/g wet wt) or dry weight (119.1 ± 5.5 μg/egg)) and egg quality (proportion of floating eggs, hatch rate, larval growth and larval survival). Further, no differences in egg composition were noted between seasons or over the course of each season. The fatty acid composition of cobia eggs varied between seasons possibly due to changes in the quality of frozen feed (fish, shrimp, squid) given to the broodstock. The only correlation between the fatty acid profile and egg quality was a decrease in the proportion of floating eggs as the total amount of n-3 highly unsaturated fatty acids increased. No relationship between egg quality and amino acid content was noted with the most prominent amino acids being glutamate, leucine, alanine, proline, lysine and aspartate nor were any differences detected between spawning seasons.  相似文献
