The application of pig slurry to soil can result in the accumulation of soil Cu and Zn, alter soil Cu and Zn fractions, and result in soil, surface water, and subsurface water contamination. This study evaluated the accumulation and distribution of Cu and Zn in soil profiles from 10 areas treated with pig slurry for 3–30 yr. A microwatershed within the municipality of Braço do Norte in the state of Santa Catarina and in the southern region of Brazil was studied. Hapludalf soil samples were collected at depths of 0.0–0.05, 0.05–0.10, 0.10–0.20, 0.20–0.30, and 0.30–0.40 m from 10 areas where pig slurry had been applied for 3–30 yr. The soil samples were dried, prepared, and analyzed to determine their chemical characteristics, particularly to quantify their Cu and Zn fractions. Although long-term pig slurry application resulted in greater available Cu and Zn concentrations in the surface soil layer, the migration of available Cu in the soil profile only occurred in areas that were subjected to more than 17 yr of slurry application. The application of pig slurry increased the available Cu and Zn contents in the surface soil layer; however, the available Cu in the soil profile increased in the areas with more than 17 yr of slurry application. Cu accumulation mainly occurred in the organic and mineral soil fractions, and Zn accumulation mainly occurred in the mineral fraction. Overall, Cu posed a greater risk for surface water contamination than Zn, especially in areas with more than 17 yr of pig slurry application. 相似文献

Background
Annotation of proteins with gene ontology (GO) terms is ongoing work and a complex task. Manual GO annotation is precise and precious, but it is time-consuming. Therefore, instead of curated annotations most of the proteins come with uncurated annotations, which have been generated automatically. Text-mining systems that use literature for automatic annotation have been proposed but they do not satisfy the high quality expectations of curators. Results
In this paper we describe an approach that links uncurated annotations to text extracted from literature. The selection of the text is based on the similarity of the text to the term from the uncurated annotation. Besides substantiating the uncurated annotations, the extracted texts also lead to novel annotations. In addition, the approach uses the GO hierarchy to achieve high precision. Our approach is integrated into GOAnnotator, a tool that assists the curation process for GO annotation of UniProt proteins. Conclusion
The GO curators assessed GOAnnotator with a set of 66 distinct UniProt/SwissProt proteins with uncurated annotations. GOAnnotator provided correct evidence text at 93% precision. This high precision results from using the GO hierarchy to only select GO terms similar to GO terms from uncurated annotations in GOA. Our approach is the first one to achieve high precision, which is crucial for the efficient support of GO curators. GOAnnotator was implemented as a web tool that is freely available at http://xldb.di.fc.ul.pt/rebil/tools/goa/.83.

BACKGROUND
Aedes aegypti is an important mosquito species that can transmit several arboviruses such as dengue fever, yellow fever, chikungunya and zika. Because these mosquitoes are becoming resistant to most chemical insecticides used around the world, studies with new larvicides should be prioritized. Based on the known biological profile of imidazolium salts (IS), the objective of this study was to evaluate the potential of six IS as larvicides against Ae. aegypti, as tested against Ae. aegypti larvae. Larval mortality was measured after 24 and 48 h, and residual larvicidal activity was also evaluated.RESULTS
Promising results were obtained with aqueous solutions of two IS: 1‐n‐octadecyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride ( C 18 MImCl ) and 1‐n‐hexadecyl‐3‐methylimidazolium methanesulfonate ( C 16 MImMeS ), showing up to 90% larval mortality after 48 h exposure. C 18 MImCl was more effective than C 16 mIMeS , causing mortality until day 15 after exposure. An application of C 18 MImCl left to dry under ambient conditions for at least 2 months and then dissolved in water showed a more pronounced residual effect (36 days with 95% mortality and 80% mortality up to 78 days).CONCLUSION
This is the first study to show the potential of IS in the control of Ae. aegypti. Further studies are needed to understand the mode of action of these compounds in the biological development of this mosquito species. © 2017 Society of Chemical Industry85.
Gut microbiota and gut morphology of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) juveniles are not affected by chromic oxide as digestibility marker 下载免费PDF全文

The present work aimed to evaluate whether the use of chromic oxide (Cr2O3) as dietary inert marker in fish digestibility studies interferes with gut microbial community modulation and gut morphology. To assess the effects of Cr2O3 under potential diverse microbiota populations, dietary Cr2O3 was tested using challenging plant feedstuffs (PF)‐based diets supplemented or not with prebiotics, as prebiotics are expected to modify gut microbiota populations. For that purpose, three diets were formulated to include circa 20:80 fish meal and PF as protein sources, without (CTR) or with prebiotic supplementation (10 g/kg XOS or GOS). These diets did not include Cr2O3 (?Cr2O3 diets). Three similar additional diets were formulated to include 5 g/kg Cr2O3 (+Cr2O3 diets). Cr2O3 effects on gut microbiota were assessed for the first time in the allochthonous (digesta) and autochthonous (mucosa) community by a culture‐independent molecular approach, using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). No differences in gut bacterial profiles (number of operational taxonomic units, microbiota richness, diversity and similarity indices) were observed between dietary treatments. No significant alterations in submucosa layer structure, enterocytes and eosinophilic granular cells structure, goblet cells and leucocytes quantity were detected in the distal intestine among diets. In conclusion, data indicate that dietary inclusion of 5 g/kg Cr2O3 does not interfere with gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) gut microbiota and gut morphology, suggesting that a dietary incorporation level of 5 g/kg Cr2O3 can safely be used as inert marker in digestibility studies. 相似文献

Panagrellus redivivus is a nematode with a high protein content and low‐cost production. It is successfully used in the larviculture of shrimp, however, it has not yet been evaluated as feed for Betta splendens larvae. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate P. redivivus as feed for betta larvae maintained at different depths of water. The experiment was based on a completely randomized 3 × 2 factorial design, represented by two feed types and one alternating feeding regime plus two water depths (2.5 and 5.0 cm). The Artemia feed promoted the highest weight gain, followed by the alternating feeding regime. The single use of the nematode as live feed produced the poorest weight gain. The water depth and the feeding method influenced the specific growth rate (SGR). At a depth of 2.5 cm, the alternating feeding promoted similar SGR compared to fish fed with Artemia only. Furthermore, at the greater water depth an improvement in SGR was observed in fish fed Artemia only, but the similarity to alternating feeding regime remains. Thus, the inclusion of nematode is an appropriate and lower cost feed strategy for the betta larviculture independent of water depths. 相似文献

Populations of Ceratocystis fimbriata on Colocasia esculenta and other hosts in the Mata Atlântica region in Brazil 下载免费PDF全文

Ceratocystis fimbriata is native to Brazil, where it is able to cause serious diseases on numerous hosts, especially on non‐native plants. Because C. fimbriata is soilborne and not wind dispersed, highly differentiated populations are found in different regions of Brazil. The present study compared populations of C. fimbriata on taro, mango, eucalyptus and kiwifruit from the coastal Mata Atlântica region with native populations of the fungus from the Cerrado‐transition region in Brazil by using 14 SSR markers and DNA sequences of ITS and mating type genes. Microsatellite and phylogenetic analyses were performed to test the hypothesis that populations on different hosts from the Mata Atlântica region are related to each other and are native to the region. The ITS sequences varied greatly among the taro isolates, with six sequences identified, from which two had not been previously reported. For mating type genes, four sequences were identified among the isolates on taro, mango, eucalyptus and kiwifruit. Phylogenetic analyses showed that Mata Atlântica populations formed a monophyletic group distinct from Cerrado‐transition region populations, although earlier studies had shown that isolates from the two regions are interfertile and are considered as a single biological species. Microsatellite analysis revealed low gene diversity for each of the three Mata Atlântica populations on taro, mango and kiwifruit, suggesting that these populations had gone through genetic bottlenecks, probably by dispersal of select genotypes in vegetative propagation material. Also, microsatellite markers showed that two microsatellite genotypes from taro are widely spread in Brazil, probably by infected corms. 相似文献

Background: Blood groups in dogs are designated as dog erythrocyte antigen (DEA) 1.1, 1.2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and Dal. There is limited information about the frequency of different antigens in Greyhound dogs, despite their frequent use as blood donors. Objectives: The aims of this study were to determine the frequencies of DEA 1.1, 1.2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 in Greyhounds, to compare the frequencies with those of non‐Greyhound dogs, and to evaluate the presence of naturally occurring anti‐DEA antibodies. Methods: Blood was collected from 206 Greyhound and 66 non‐Greyhound dogs being screened as potential blood donors. Blood‐typing was performed at Animal Blood Resources International by tube agglutination utilizing polyclonal anti‐DEA antibodies. Results: Of the Greyhound dogs, 27/206 (13.1%) were positive for DEA 1.1, and this frequency was significantly lower (P<.0001) than for non‐Greyhound dogs of which 40/66 (60.6%) were DEA 1.1‐positive. The frequency of positivity for both DEA 1.1 and 1.2 was also lower in Greyhounds (P<.0001). There were no significant differences between Greyhounds and non‐Greyhounds for DEA 1.2, 3, 4, 5, or 7. All 137 dogs (113 Greyhounds and 24 non‐Greyhounds) that were evaluated for naturally occurring anti‐DEA antibodies in serum were negative. A higher percentage of Greyhound dogs (57.3%, 118/206) were considered “universal donors” (negative for all DEAs except DEA 4) compared with non‐Greyhound dogs (28%, 13/46). Conclusion: The frequency of positivity for DEA 1.1 in our population of Greyhounds was significantly lower than previously reported for dogs. Furthermore, a large majority of Greyhounds met the criteria for universal donors. 相似文献

To assess the effect of feeding frequency on the utilization of dietary starch by white sea bream juveniles, triplicate groups of fish were fed an experimental diet (400 g kg?1 protein, 140 g kg?1 lipids and 350 g kg?1 pregelatinized maize starch) to apparent visual satiation 2, 3 or 4 times a day for 63 days. Growth performance, feed utilization efficiency, glycaemia, cholesterolaemia, plasma triacylglycerides, liver lipids and glycogen content were unaffected by feeding frequency. α‐Amylase activity increased from the pyloric caeca to the posterior intestine and was higher in fish fed twice a day than in fish fed 3 or 4 times a day. Hepatic glucokinase (GK) activity decreased with the increase in feeding frequencies, whereas fructose‐1,6‐bisphosphatase (FBPase) activity increased. Hepatic glucose‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase and glutamate dehydrogenase activities were unaffected by feeding frequency. Overall, feeding frequency did not improve white sea bream dietary starch utilization. α‐Amylase, GK and FBPase activities responded to dietary starch consumed at each meal, denoting a good metabolic adaptation of the fish to the feeding conditions. 相似文献
