The detection and mapping of genetic markers linked to quantitative trait loci (QTL) can be utilized to enhance genetic improvement of livestock populations. With the completion of the bovine genome sequence assembly, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) assays spanning the whole bovine genome and research work on large scale identification, validation and analysis of genotypic variation in cattle has become possible. The objective of the present study was to perform a whole genome scan to identify and map QTL affecting milk production traits and somatic cell scores using linkage disequilibrium (LD) regression and 1536 SNP markers. Three and 18 SNP were found to be associated with only milk yield (MY) at a genome and chromosome wise significance (p < 0.05) level respectively. Among the 21 significant SNP, 16 were in a region reported to have QTL for MY in other dairy cattle populations and while the rest five were new QTL finding. Four SNP out of 21 are significant for the milk production traits (MY, fat yield, protein yield (PY), and milk contents) in the present study. Six and nine SNP were associated with PY at a genome and chromosome wise significant (p < 0.05) level respectively. Three and 17 SNP were found to be associated with FY at a genome and chromosome wise significant (p < 0.05) level. Five and seven SNP were mapped with somatic cell score at a genome and chromosome wise significant (p < 0.05) level respectively. The results of this study have revealed QTL for MY, PY, protein percentage, FY, fat percentage, somatic cell score and persistency of milk in the Canadian dairy cattle population. The chromosome regions identified in this study should be further investigated to potentially identify the causative mutations underlying the QTL. 相似文献

The relationships between strains of Pseudomonas savastanoi pv. phaseolicola (P. sav. phaseolicola), P. syringae pv. tabaci (P. syr. tabaci) and P. syr. syringae which all cause disease on bean; the related species P. sav. glycinea and P. syr. actinidiae, and reference bacteria, were evaluated by studying the phenotypic and genetic diversity of a collection of 62 strains. All the P. sav. phaseolicola strains tested produced characteristic watersoaked lesions on bean pods. Other pathovars produced varying combinations of symptoms including necrotic lesions, with or without watersoaked centres and sunken tissue collapse of the lesion (P. syr. tabaci) and necrotic lesions with or without sunken collapse (P. syr. syringae). At the genomospecies level, all the strains of P. sav. phaseolicola, P. sav. glycinea and P. syr. tabaci, belonging to genomospecies 2, could be separated from P. syr. syringae strains (genomospecies 1) and P. syr. actinidiae strains (unknown genomospecies) by BOX-PCR and DNA/DNA hybridisation. To distinguish P. sav. phaseolicola, within genomospecies 2, from P. sav. glycinea and P. syr. tabaci, it was necessary to perform nutritional characterisations myo-inositol negative and p-hydroxy benzoate positive for P. sav. phaseolicola strains), PCR with specific primers designed from the tox region (positive for all of the P. sav. phaseolicola strains) and serotyping, as 71% of the P. sav. phaseolicola strains reacted as O-serogroup PHA1. Important intrapathovar variation was seen by genomic fingerprinting with REP and ERIC primers, as well as with RAPD primers (AE7 and AE10) and esterase profilings. While RAPD fingerprinting detected variability correlated with two race-associated evolutionary lines, REP, ERIC and esterase profiles revealed intrapathovar variation linked to some host origins, that separated the kudzu isolates, and the mungbean isolates, from the other P. sav. phaseolicola strains. 相似文献

Wheat germ (WG) is a by‐product of the flour milling industry and could be a sustainable ingredient to replace a fair average quality fishmeal (FM) in aquafeeds. Subsequently, three diets were tested in European seabass juveniles (IBW: 16.7 ± 2.8 g): control diet without WG (CTRL); two diets with 75 g/kg and 155 g/kg WG (WG8 and WG16, respectively) at the expense of FM. Diets were isoproteic (500 g/kg dry matter, DM) and isoenergetic (21 MJ/kg, DM). After 18 weeks of feeding, apparent digestibility coefficients (ADCs) were determined and growth performance evaluated. Intestine and muscle were collected for histology and fatty acid profile, respectively. Innate immune parameters were evaluated in plasma. DM, protein and phosphorous ADCs increased concomitantly with the inclusion of WG; WG16 reached significantly higher values (p < 0.05) than CTRL. Feed conversion ratio was lower in fish fed WG16 than in those fed CTRL (1.5 vs. 1.6), while protein efficiency ratio increased with WG inclusion (1.4 vs. 1.2). Results demonstrate WG's potential to partially replace a fair average quality FM in diets for European seabass juveniles without impairing growth and body composition. WG inclusion at 16% (WG16) improved protein ADC and feed utilization, resulting in the lowest economic efficiency ratio, ECR (€/kg fish). 相似文献

Seaweeds are considered healthy and sustainable food. Although their consumption is modest in Western countries, the demand for seaweed in food markets is increasing in Europe. Each seaweed species has unique nutritional and functional features. The preparation of blends, obtained by mixing several seaweeds species, allows the obtaining of maximum benefits and ingredients with single characteristics. In this work, five seaweed blends, commercially available and produced under organic conditions in Europe, were characterized. The proximal composition included contents of ash (20.28–28.68% DW), proteins (17.79–26.61% DW), lipids (0.55–1.50% DW), and total carbohydrates (39.47–47.37% DW). Fatty acid profiles were determined by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), allowing quantification of healthy fatty acids, namely n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), and calculation of lipid quality indices. Each blend showed a characteristic PUFA content in the lipid pool (35.77–49.43% of total fatty acids) and the content in essential and healthy n-3 PUFA is highlighted. The atherogenicity (0.54–0.72) and thrombogenicity (0.23–0.45) indices evidenced a good nutritional value of lipid fractions. As nutritional and environmentally attractive products, the consumption of the studied seaweed blends can contribute to a healthy lifestyle. 相似文献

Carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) dynamics in agro-systems can be altered as a consequence of treated sewage effluent (TSE) irrigation. The present study evaluated the effects of TSE irrigation over 16 months on N concentrations in sugarcane (leaves, stalks and juice), total soil carbon (TC), total soil nitrogen (TN), NO3−-N in soil and nitrate (NO3−) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in soil solution. The soil was classified as an Oxisol and samplings were carried out during the first productive crop cycle, from February 2005 (before planting) to September 2006 (after sugarcane harvest and 16 months of TSE irrigation). The experiment was arranged in a complete block design with five treatments and four replicates. Irrigated plots received 50% of the recommended mineral N fertilization and 100% (T100), 125% (T125), 150% (T150) and 200% (T200) of crop water demand. No mineral N and irrigation were applied to the control plots. TSE irrigation enhanced sugarcane yield but resulted in total-N inputs (804-1622 kg N ha−1) greater than exported N (463-597 kg N ha−1). Hence, throughout the irrigation period, high NO3− concentrations (up to 388 mg L−1 at T200) and DOC (up to 142 mg L−1 at T100) were measured in soil solution below the root zone, indicating the potential of groundwater contamination.
