The purpose of this note is to propose a variance estimator under non-measurable designs that exploits the existence of an auxiliary variable well correlated with the survey variable of interest. Under non-measurable designs, the Sen–Yates–Grundy variance estimator generates a downward bias that can be reduced using a calibration weighting based on the auxiliary variable. Conditions of approximate unbiasedness for the resulting calibration estimator are given. The application to systematic sampling is considered. The proposal proves to be effective for estimating the variance of the forest cover estimator in remote sensing-based surveys, owing to the strong correlation between the reference data, available from a systematic sample, and the satellite map data, available for the whole population and hence exploited as an auxiliary variable. The historical changes in European Black Pine population size across the whole natural distribution in Europe and Asia Minor were analyzed facing the Plio-Pleistocene climatic fluctuations. Thirteen chloroplast SSRs and SNPs markers have been studied under the assumptions of “neutral evolution.” Populations and meta-populations had different histories of migration routes, and they were strongly affected by complex patterns of isolation, fragmentation, speciation, expansion (1.88–4.28 Ma), purification selection (2.09–21.41 Ma) and bottleneck (1.85–21.76 Ma). A significant number of populations (min. 29–41%) were in equilibrium for very long periods. Generally, the bottleneck revealed by chloroplast DNA is weaker than the bottleneck revealed by nuclear DNA. The N e immediately after the bottleneck reaches between 1820 and 3640 individuals. Generally, the historical effective population sizes shrink significantly for the Tertiary period from 10–15 up to 2.5 Ma in Western Europe (by 82%), followed by Asia Minor (69%) and the Balkan Peninsula (28%), likely resulting from important climatic changes. The rates and frequencies of stepwise westwards migration waves have been not sufficient to prevent isolation between the meta-populations and to suppress “sympatric speciation.” The migration was weak for the Pliocene, but was maximal for the Pleistocene, and finally silent for the present interglacial period, namely the Holocene. 相似文献

Extra virgin olive oils from drupes of three Sicilian varieties (Biancolilla, Cerasuola, and Nocellara del Belice) collected at three different harvesting periods were analyzed upon heating by means of DSC, and thermal properties were related to the chemical composition of the samples. All thermograms exhibited multiple transitions with a minor exothermic peak, followed by a major endothermic event. Cerasuola samples showed higher overall enthalpy and narrower range of transition at all harvesting periods, as compared to the other oils. A more ordered crystal structure originating from a more uniform chemical composition, with higher triolein content, in Cerasuola may be hypothesized. At different harvesting periods, thermal transitions started at lower temperatures and developed over a narrower range in all cultivars, probably due to the insertion of molecules derived from triacylglycerol lysis (diacylglycerols and free fatty acids) and lipid oxidation products into the triacylglycerol crystal lattice. All heating thermograms were deconvoluted into one exothermic and five endothermic constituent peaks, and the effect of chemical components on thermal properties of the peaks was evaluated. DSC application upon heating appears to be very promising in discriminating among oil samples from olives of different cultivars and/or harvesting periods. 相似文献

We conducted a study in a spruce forest, grown on a sub-acidic bedrock, in the Italian Alps in order to assess whether (1) forest dynamics influences animal communities, and in particular whether the richness of zoological groups peaks during the regeneration phase, (2) the diversity of zoological groups is correlated to C mineralization, considered as a measurement of soil functioning, (3) aspect influences the above relationships. We compared soil animal communities, soil physico-chemical features and nutrient mineralization in three developmental phases of spruce, with increasing tree cover (clearing, regeneration and mature trees) and two sun exposures (North, South). Animal communities changed with spruce dynamics. Mature spruce stands were characterized by higher densities of Acari, while regeneration stands and clearings were mainly characterized by higher densities of Collembola and most groups of macrofauna. As hypothesized, the richness of zoological groups was highest in regeneration stands, especially in the south facing site, probably because of the simultaneous occurrence of a dense herbaceous cover and spruce litter, leading to higher local soil heterogeneity. However, zoological group diversity (Shannon index), which was lowest in mature stands, was better explained by the herbaceous cover, i.e., by the quality of food resources, in both south and north facing sites. Variations of soil characteristics with the developmental phase of trees, reflecting a higher litter input and slower litter decomposition rate beneath mature trees, are in line with the distribution of zoological groups. As expected, the diversity of zoological groups was positively correlated to C mineralization. Changes in animal communities with phases of the forest cycle were much more pronounced in the south compared to the north facing site. In light of previously published results, we discuss how the diversity and composition of soil animal communities are plant driven. 相似文献

Pineapple is one of the most important tropical fruits and therefore intensive genetic improvement programs are being carried out in many countries, including Cuba. Our research team has previously introduced the bar gene, along with chitinase and AP24 genes, into the pineapple genome. Herein, we report on the biochemical side effects of the herbicide FINALE® on these transgenic plantlets during hardening. Levels of aldehydes and chlorophylls, and peroxidase activity were recorded. The transformed clone studied here, not sprayed with FINALE®, showed the following side effects because of transgenesis only. Levels of malondialdehyde, other aldehydes, chlorophyll b, and total chlorophyll pigments decreased. The most remarkable biochemical differences between transgenic and non-transgenic plantlets after application of FINALE® follow. Levels of malondialdehyde and other aldehydes in transgenic material were not decreased by FINALE®, perhaps because these levels were already low as a result of transformation. FINALE® increased peroxidase activity in transgenic plantlets but such increase was higher in non-transgenic material. The herbicide increased contents of chlorophyll pigments (a, b, total) in transformed plantlets. However, as expected, non-transgenic plantlets decreased levels of chlorophylls (a, b, total) after application of FINALE®. The genetic transformation of pineapple with the bar gene not only conferred resistance to the herbicide FINALE®, but also promoted other biochemical changes. 相似文献

Pigmentation capability of red porgy (Pagrus pagrus) skin reared under open sea‐cage conditions and fed an astaxanthin‐enriched diet was studied. Skin lipid peroxide levels and lipid composition were also evaluated to establish the antioxidant role of astaxanthin under these sunlight‐exposure conditions. Fish placed either in an offshore sea cage system (SC) or in an inland tank facility (T) housed inside a ‘shade‐house’ enclosure were fed a commercial diet supplemented with 22 mg kg?1 astaxanthin. No differences in growth or survival were found. Both groups displayed a red skin, but SC fish presented a darker pigmentation, which externally reflected the higher deposition of melanin, astaxanthin and tunaxanthin found in its skin. The lower level of lipid peroxides found in SC fish might be related with the higher level of astaxanthin mentioned above. Nevertheless, lipid and fatty acid profiles did not show significant differences between groups. Our results indicate that sustainable production of red porgy with a natural red hue is possible on the basis of proper adjustment of two factors illumination and dietary astaxanthin. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of two rearing conditions: outdoor environment with great volume tanks (500 m3) and low stocking density (~0.4 kg m?3); and indoor environment with smaller volume tanks (10 m3) and higher stocking density (~5 kg m?3), on muscle, liver and ovary lipid composition of Seriola dumerili broodstock born in captivity. The rearing conditions tested seem to affect the pattern of lipid body deposition in broodstock fish of S. dumerili, increasing the muscle and liver triacylglycerides (TG) accumulation of fish kept under indoor conditions, probably due to reduced energy expenditure in swimming, with some variations in the fatty acid profile that may respond to the differences in the culture conditions tested. No significant differences were found for Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) or ovary lipid deposition between groups in this study, which may suggest that the conditions tested do not have a major effect on ovary development. However, one season later the females kept under outdoor conditions released eggs spontaneously, whereas those kept under indoor conditions did not spawn, suggesting that the conditions tested actually have an effect on the broodstock's reproductive fitness. More studies are needed in order to evaluate whether the conditions tested have or not any influence on ovary development. 相似文献
