Successful treatment of naturally occurring periocular squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in horses with photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been performed by injecting residual tumor with verteporfin and applying laser irradiation immediately following injection. This study used a murine model to evaluate the influence of time between intralesional injection of verteporfin to laser irradiation on tumor growth inhibition with PDT. Mice were randomized into six groups (n=10/group). Each tumor was injected with either 0.1mg/cm(3) of verteporfin (Tx) or 5% dextrose in water (C). Tx and C groups 1, 2, and 3 were irradiated at 1, 30, and 180min after injection. Wilcoxon-rank sum test (P< or =0.05) was performed to determine the relative change in tumor volume (RCTV) between groups. Statistical significance was demonstrated between treatment groups. Although verteporfin-PDT treated mice in Tx1 and Tx2 demonstrated a lower RCTV compared to C1 and C2 mice, the differences were not statistically significant.  相似文献

The objectives of the present study were to investigate the relationship between number of pigs born dead (PBD) and both post-farrowing performance and culling risk in sows, and to determine the repeatability of PBD within sow. The present study used 256,527 parity records of 51,907 sows on 110 commercial farms. Five groups for PBD were categorized: PBD 0, 1, 2, 3 and ≥ 4 pigs. Linear mixed-effects models were used to analyze the data. Variance components analysis was separately conducted for three groups based on parity at culling. Mean value (± SEM) of PBD was 1.1 ± 0.01 pigs. Relative frequency of PBD 0, 1, 2, 3 and ≥ 4 pigs were 44.7, 24.8, 14.6, 7.5 and 8.4%, respectively. The relative frequency of PBD ≥ 4 pigs increased from 4.2 to 14.4% as parity increased from 2 to ≥ 6, whereas the frequency of PBD ≥ 4 pigs in parity 1 was 6.0%. Sows with PBD ≥ 4 pigs had 3.4% lower subsequent farrowing rate than those with PBD 0 pigs (P < 0.01). In parities ≥ 3, sows with PBD ≥ 4 pigs had fewer pigs born alive at subsequent parity than those with PBD 1 pigs (P < 0.01). However, in parities 1 and 2, no differences were found between the PBD groups in number of pigs born alive at subsequent parity. No difference was also found between the PBD groups in their subsequent weaning-to-first-mating interval. At each farrowed parity, culling risk for sows increased as PBD increased (P < 0.01). Furthermore, the values of the repeatability of PBD in sows culled in parities 2–5, 6–7 and ≥ 8 were relatively low, 0.14, 0.16 and 0.15, respectively. In conclusion, culling for low-parity sows based on PBD is not justified as the value of repeatability of PBD is low. Additionally, assisted farrowing is recommended for high-parity sows and parity-1 sows to reduce the PBD.  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary taurine levels on growth and feeding behavior of juvenile Japanese flounder. Three different taurine level diets were prepared by supplementation of taurine (T-0%, 0.5% and 1.5%) to the basal diet. Fish meal washed with 70% ethanol to remove taurine was used as the sole protein source. Feeding experiments were carried out twice at 20 °C by using different size of fish (average body weight: 0.3 g in Experiment I and 3.7 g in Experiment II). The feeding behavior of fish was observed throughout the experimental period. At the end of experiments, fish were killed for amino acids analysis.

The final average body weight and feed efficiency of juvenile Japanese flounder fed the T-1.5% diet was significantly higher than those of fish fed the T-0% diet in Experiments I and II. Abnormal feeding behavior such as multiple feeding while swimming in the water column was observed in the T-0% group in Experiment I. These findings indicate that taurine is essential for normal growth and development of normal feeding behavior of juvenile Japanese flounder.  相似文献

Interactions between tumor and immune cells within the tumor microenvironment play an important role in tumor progression, and small extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from these tumor cells have been shown to exert immunomodulatory effects on various immune cells, including macrophages and lymphocytes. Although the immunomodulatory effects of small EVs derived from human cancer cells have been intensively investigated, few studies have investigated the effects of lymphoma-derived small EVs on macrophages in both human and veterinary medicine. Here, we evaluated the effects of canine lymphoma-derived small EVs on canine primary monocytes, which are the major source of macrophages in neoplastic tissues. Comprehensive gene expression analysis of these treated monocytes revealed their distinct activation via the Toll-like receptor (TLR) and NF-κβ signaling pathways. In addition, treatment with lymphoma small EVs increased the secretion of MCP-1, which induces the infiltration and migration of monocytes and lymphocytes in neoplastic and cancer tissues. The results of this study indicate that canine lymphoma small EVs activate monocytes, possibly through the activation of TLR and NF-κβ signaling pathways, and induce monocytes to secrete of MCP-1, which might contribute to immune cell infiltration within the tumor microenvironment.  相似文献
