Two cats showing chronic vomiting, diarrhea and weight loss were found to have leukocytosis with marked eosinophilia. Both cats were diagnosed with hypereosinophilic syndrome by the findings of increased eosinophils and their precursors in the bone marrow, eosinophilic infiltration into multiple organs, and exclusion of other causes for eosinophilia. Although cytoreductive chemotherapy with hydroxycarbamide and prednisolone was performed, these two cats died 48 days and 91 days after the initial presentation. 相似文献
Abstract: A 1‐year‐old intact female miniature Dachshund was presented with hematochezia, vomiting, and diarrhea of more than 1‐week duration. An abdominal mass was palpated, which at exploratory surgery was found to be a 7‐cm‐long thickened section of ileum. The thickened ileum was resected. Impression smears revealed numerous small‐ to medium‐sized lymphocytes, with a smaller number of cells resembling Mott cells. The Mott‐like cells contained multiple pale vacuoles that were positive for periodic acid‐Schiff (PAS) in wet‐fixed smears, consistent with Russell bodies. Histologic evaluation of the surgically excised ileum revealed 2 populations of neoplastic lymphoid cells. The majority were uniform medium‐sized lymphocytes with hyperchromatic oval or round nuclei and inconspicuous nucleoli. The remaining cells resembled Mott cells, which contained several PAS‐positive eosinophilic globules in the cytoplasm, occasionally compressing the nucleus. The majority of neoplastic cells stained positively for vimentin, CD20, CD79a, and Pax‐5, but were negative for CD3 and lysozyme; 43.5% of cells stained positively for Ki‐67. The Mott cells were strongly positive for immunoglobulin but were negative for Pax‐5. Using electron microscopy, a homogenous substance of intermediate electron density was observed frequently in the cisternae of rough endoplasmic reticulum in the cytoplasm of the Mott cells, and rarely in the perinuclear cisternae of the lymphoid cells, corresponding to the site of immunoglobulin staining. Monoclonal rearrangement of immunoglobulin heavy‐chain (IgH) gene was observed by PCR testing for lymphocyte–antigen receptor rearrangement. The morphologic features, immunophenotype, and IgH gene rearrangement verified the lymphoid cells were neoplastic (mature cell type) and had a B‐cell phenotype, with evidence of immunoglobulin production and differentiation into Mott cells. This case was unusual because of the age of the dog and because most intestinal lymphomas are T‐cell phenotype. The Mott cell morphology also differed from typical mature B‐cell lymphoma types and may be a unique B‐cell lymphoma variant. 相似文献

Seedling ofWisteria floribunda, which belongs to the twiner type of climbing plants, were planted in nursery and the effect of support on the growth of
the seedlings was tested. The seedlings were grown with 240 cm-height and 120 cm-height supports (the culms of a dwarf bamboo),
and without support. Positive effect of the supports and its length were observed for stem length ofW. floribunda at the end of the growing season. The positive effect of support was also observed for total dry weight. Total dry weight
with 240 cm-height support reached more than the double of the seedlings without support. These effects of the support were
attributed to die-back behavior of the twining stem, which detached from the support or did not encounter the support. Diameter
of the stems without support showed a rapid decrease toward the stem tip, while that with support were relatively constant
when they were twining around the support. The existence of the support also affected the dry matter allocation in this species;
supported seedlings allocated larger proportion of biomass to current-year stems than unsupported seedlings, although the
allocation to the roots was smaller in the supported treatments. Support availability may be critical for the establishment
and further growth of the seedlings ofW. floribunda which regenerate at the forest edge and canopy gaps.

The differential hosts of Williams (1966) and the European Clubroot Differential (ECD) (Buczacki et al., 1975) have been used commonly to identify populations of Plasmodiophora brassicae, which causes clubroot disease in Brassica crops. However, some of these hosts showed intermediate and fluctuating scores to most populations from Japan. Therefore, these hosts could not be used to provide a clear classification in Japan. We have tried to clarify the genetic diversity in pathogenicity of P. brassicae in Japan using Japanese clubroot-resistant (CR) F1 hybrid (F1) cultivars and lines of Brassica rapa. The responses of some CR F1 cultivars were very clear. Four groups of field populations in Japan were recognized using the CR F1 cultivars. The clear response obtained here may depend largely on the genetic purity of the F1 cultivars. Moreover, it is possible to classify some of these Japanese populations into the same race using the Williams set and ECD 01 to ECD 05. The present differential hosts may be useful in the study of European populations of P. brassicae. The response of the differential hosts suggests that there are several major CR genes in B. rapa. It is suggested that pyramiding CR genes would be useful in breeding CR cultivars that can overcome the breakdown of the present CR cultivars of Chinese cabbage. 相似文献
