The Common Vole (Microtus agrestis) and the Redbacked Vole (Clethrionomys glareolus) can cause severe damages in forest plantations. Different application techniques of rodenticides to control these harmful rodents were tested by several institutions of plant protection in the Federal Republic of Germany. The following registered baits were used: A bluestained pectin-wax pellet containing 0.0075% Chlorphacinon (Lepit®-Forstpellet), small flour-plates (Arrex®-M-Köder klein) and sunflower kernels coated with plastique-foil (Arrex®-E-Köder) both incorporated with 2% resp. 3.75% zinc-phosphide. In 1985 disperse spraying versus concentrated offering of the baits in 12 earthenware pipes/ha was tested. The density of mice and voles could be reduced nearly to the same level with both methods. However, the amount of baits needed was much less when bait stations were used. In 1986 a new and save type of bait station (Theyson-Köder-station) was tested, from which non-target animals cannot get baits. The acceptance of the bait station could be improved by aromatic compounds from apples. According to the obtained first results forest plantations can be protected during the whole wintertime against vole-damages by means of bait stations. 相似文献

Although rainbow trout fry mortality syndrome caused by the bacterium Flavobacterium psychrophilum is widespread in fish farms it is difficult to reproduce infection of rainbow trout in the laboratory using immersion exposure with bacterial suspensions. It has therefore been speculated that ectoparasites could act as enhancers of bacterial infections under natural conditions. In the present study rainbow trout fry were exposed to infections with F. psychrophilum (immersion for 30 min or 10 h) alone, exposed to the ectoparasitic monogenean Gyrodactylus derjavini alone or exposed to both pathogens in combination. Infection levels and host mortality were subsequently monitored to elucidate if the ectoparasitic monogeneans could enhance infection of fish with the bacterium. Immersion of fish in bacterial suspensions alone did not result in infection. Only one fish became infected with the bacterium and this fish belonged to the combination exposure group. The parasite populations increased differently in the various groups and it was found that host mortality was correlated to gyrodactylid infection levels (r=0.94) but not to bacterial exposure. The results emphasise the pathogenicity of the parasite G. derjavini, the relative resistance of intact fish to direct exposure to F. psychrophilum but provide only a weak indication of a possible enhancement of bacterial invasion due to ectoparasitic infections. It cannot be excluded that higher parasite burdens and/or prolonged immersion (more than 10 h) in bacterial suspensions may result in bacterial invasion. 相似文献

1. During the summer and winter of 1998 we monitored rodent infestation in the sheds of 9 poultry farms in central Argentina to estimate variation in rodent infestation within farms and its possible association with shed structure and farm design. 2. We observed great heterogeneity in rodent infestations, with a mean variation of 37% in the 'Rodent Infestation Index' (RII; an estimate of rodent density revealed by tracks) between sheds of the same farm. 3. In summer, the group of sheds that showed the highest RII had a higher chicken density than the group of sheds with the lowest RII. Sheds located between other sheds of the same farm showed a lower RII than sheds located beside the perimeter of the farm. 4. Our results support the hypothesis that rodents show habitat selection at both macro (farm) and microhabitat (shed) scales, and that the variables associated with these associations can change according to the scale. 5. Our observation that sheds located beside the perimeter of the farms are prone to rodent invasions reinforces our previous recommendation that farms with an efficient control of vegetation growth around their perimeter would have appreciably lower rodent infestations. 相似文献

Based on the law of animal welfare and on the EU-rule about keeping of wild animals in zoological gardens 15 zoological gardens in Brandenburg were inspected by a temporary team consisting of one veterinarian from the state office of feeds and agriculture, the local authorized veterinarian and one director of the zoogardens. Data of every zoological garden at first were recorded by special lists of queries. So it was possible to estimate the keeping conditions and to realize deficiencies and the main problems. During the local inspection these data were controlled and the structure of keeping units as well as the conditions and behaviour of the animals were evaluated. Every unit was evaluated taking into consideration all points of view. If necessary proposals for improvements were made which were to enforce by the local authority. Furthermore the documentation and the economic areas were inspected. The number of kept species and animals was relatively low. Only two zoological gardens were to classify as mean ones. The majority of the fences and aviaries corresponded with the minimal demands of the today rules resp. was larger in the dimension and space. There were very nice keeping units, but also some deficiently in the structure or in the quality of the ground. By some photographs positive and negative examples are demonstrated. The feeding and also the veterinary service were on high level. The team found out that staffs of the zoogardens had a positive position to animal welfare. Step by step they improved the keeping conditions. The central inspection by a multi-professional team was estimated positively and should be repeated in certain intervals. Severe lameness attributed to osteochondrosis is described in an extensively managed Brahman herd grazing on improved native pasture. Clinical signs were observed in five animals, three of which were necropsied. The most prominent lesions were in the elbow and stifle joints. There was multiple fissuring and ulceration of thickened articular cartilage with numerous osteochondral bodies present in the joint spaces. All affected animals were entire males sharing a common ancestral sire. Inheritance and gender were suspected to be contributing factors in the development of the disease. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate if blastocysts arising from in vitro culture of Grade 3 bovine morulae produced in vivo can promote acceptable pregnancy rates when transferred into recipients. Embryos of different stages and qualities were recovered from superovulated Bos taurus and B. indicus donors. Grade 3 morulae were cultured in either Holding Plus® or TCM‐199 (supplemented with 10% bovine fetal serum) media for 24 h at 38.5°C. After this culture period, the resulting blastocysts were morphologically classified (Grades 1, 2 and 3) and transferred into recipients previously synchronized with the donors. Non‐cultured Grades 1 and 3 morulae were used as control. Pregnancy diagnosis was carried out 60 days after embryo transfer and the data were analysed by logistic regression, considering variables, such as embryo quality (Grade), donor breed, culture medium, donor‐recipient synchrony and seasonality. Embryo quality was the only variable, showing significant effect on the pregnancy rate. Pregnancy rates for non‐cultured Grade 1 and 3 morulae, and blastocysts arising from cultured Grade 3 morulae were 58.1% (n = 31), 17.1% (n = 35) and 51.1% (n = 47), respectively (p < 0.05). There were no statistical differences between non‐cultured Grade 1 morulae and cultured blastocysts. Pregnancy rates for Grades 1 (65.0%) and 2 (60.0%) were higher than Grade 3 (29.4%) cultured blastocysts (p < 0.05). It was concluded that short‐term in vitro culture is a very convenient method of identifying morphologically low quality morulae with higher chances of continuing development after the transfer into recipients. 相似文献

Histiocytic proliferative diseases are uncommon in cats, although recently a progressive histiocytosis of the skin with terminal involvement of internal organs has been described in cats. Here we describe 3 cats (2 males and 1 female) with pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis (PLCH). The cats were euthanized due to progressive respiratory clinical symptoms and deterioration. Macroscopically, extensive, multifocal to confluent, pulmonary masses were evident. Infiltration of pancreas (2 cats), kidneys (1 cat), liver (1 cat), as well as tracheobronchial, hepatosplenic, or mesenteric lymph nodes (2 cats) was observed by gross or microscopic examination. The infiltrating cells had histiocytic morphology with cytologic atypia characterized by anisokaryosis and hyperchromasia regionally within infiltrated tissues. Lesional histiocytes expressed vimentin, CD18, and E-cadherin. Expression of E-cadherin was usually markedly reduced in extra-pulmonary lesions, which is consistent with possible down-regulation of E-cadherin associated with distant migration from the lung. Transmission electron microscopy demonstrated intracytoplasmic organelles consistent with Birbeck's granules of Langerhans cells in the lesional histiocytes in all cats, except in the pancreas of one cat. These findings were compatible PLCH with limited organ involvement of humans. It remains unproven whether feline PLCH represents a reactive or neoplastic cell proliferation. 相似文献
