Japanese horse chestnut seed extract (HCSE) dose-dependently inhibited the autooxidation of linoleic acid (IC(50): 0.2 mg/ml), and the inhibition was almost complete at a concentration of 1 mg/ml. The HCSE scavenged DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radicals and superoxide anions with EC(50)s of 0.65 and 0.21 mg/ml, respectively. However, it had no effect on hydrogen peroxide. The HCSE inhibited the genotoxicities of furylfuramide, N-methyl-N-nitrosourea, methyl methanesulfonate, mitomycin C, 2-aminoanthracene and aflatoxin B1 at a concentration of 1 mg/ml or more. Total polyphenol content of the HCSE was 21 mg/g (13 mg/g-seeds). These results indicate that the Japanese horse chestnut seed is an antioxidative and antimutagenic botanical resource. 相似文献

It is well-known that there are considerable strain differences in the relative copulation rates between male and superovulated female mice. In particular, the C57BL/6J strain of mice has a lower rate of successful copulation. We examined the effect of exposure to an electric field on sexual behavior in C57BL/6J male mice. When C57BL/6J males were exposed to a 50 Hz, 45 kV/m electric field for 30 min per day for 11 days and placed in a cage with a superovulated female of the same strain, the successful copulation rates of males was significantly improved compared with unexposed males (P<0.05). These results suggest that the exposure of C57BL/6J male mice to an electric field improves their sub-fertility activity in mating with superovulated females. 相似文献

Esophageal carcinoma was observed in an eight-year-old, castrated male, Japanese domestic cat. Histologically, this neoplasm consisted of two different growth patterns, squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. The results of immunohistochemical examination supported the fact that the two kinds of neoplastic cells have different characteristics. The tumor was, therefore, diagnosed as adenosquamous carcinoma. Esophageal tumors in the cat are very rare and, if any, neither adenocarcinoma nor adenosquamous carcinoma has been reported up to the present. 相似文献

The effectiveness of 6 antitumor agents has been evaluated for canine mammary gland tumor (CMG-6) serially transplanted into severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) mice. CMG-6 diagnosed as a solid carcinoma was subcutaneously transplanted into SCID mice and six antitumor agents were intravenously given to the mice as a single injection. The effectiveness was evaluated by Treatment group/Control group percent (T/C %) and statistical significance determined by Mann-Whitney's U-test in tumor volume. The minimum effective doses (MEDs; mg/kg) of mice were as follows; cyclophosphamide (CPM) 65, doxorubicin (DXR) 6, cisplatin (CDDP) 5, vincristine (VCR) 1.6, vinblastine (VLB) more than 5.5, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) 105. Clinical effects of the drugs were predicted based on area under the curve (AUC) of dogs given a clinical dose (AUCdog)/AUC of mice given a MED (AUCmouse) ratios from published references. The AUC ratios were as follows; CPM 2.24, DXR 0.19, CDDP 1.20, VCR 0.04, VLB <1.24 and 5-FU 1.15. Drugs indicating more than 1.0 in AUCdog/AUCmouse ratio were CPM, CDDP and 5-FU, and would be suggested as effective in the original patient with CMG-6. The combination chemotherapy using clinically equivalent doses in CDDP and CPM, which were the two highest values in AUCdog/AUCmouse ratio by single agent therapy, was performed and shown to have additional effects as compared to the responsiveness of each agent against CMG-6. 相似文献

To study the luteal and placental function of pinnipeds, we analyzed the localization of steroidogenic enzymes (P450scc, 3 beta HSD and P450arom) in the corpus luteum and the placenta of ribbon seals (Phoca fasciata) and Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) immunohistochemically. P450scc and 3 beta HSD were present in all luteal cells of both species. Almost all of the luteal cells were immunostained for P450arom, while P450scc and 3 beta HSD were negatively immunostained in placentae and P450arom was present in the syncytiotrophoblast of placentae. These findings suggest that 1) corpora lutea of both species synthesize pregnenolone, progesterone and estrogen during the entire pregnancy period, and 2) like other terrestrial carnivores in the suborder Caniformia, placentae of both species do not have the capability for synthesizing progesterone in the latter half of active pregnancy period. 相似文献
