Die gr?sste F?uleausbreitung zeigte sich bei Knollen von der ungedüngten Parzelle, gefolgt von der NPK-Variante. Key message

Trees with otherwise equal dimensions have different leaf areas if they are located in different stand types. While leaf area of European larch is affected by mixture proportion, leaf area of Norway spruce is affected by stand density.

Context

Leaf area is a key parameter for evaluating growth efficiency of trees, and therefore needs to be measured as consistently and accurately as possible. This is even more important when comparing monospecific and mixed stands.

Aims

The aim of the study is to find combinations of parameters and allometric relationships that can be used to estimate accurately the leaf area of individual trees.

Methods

Allometries of the measured leaf area of 194 trees in 12 stands were analysed in order to find variables affecting leaf area. Existing functions from the literature were validated. Finally, models were fitted to find the most appropriate method for estimating leaf area of mixed and monospecific stands of Norway spruce and European larch.

Results

Allometric relationships of leaf area to other measurable characteristics of trees vary in different stand types. Besides individual tree dimensions such as diameter and crown surface area, leaf area of Norway spruce is related to stand density, whereas the leaf area of European larch is dependent on the admixture of Norway spruce in the stand.

Conclusion

In contrast to models for estimating individual tree leaf area of Norway spruce, models for leaf area of European larch have to consider mixture proportions in order to correctly interpret the growth efficiency of mixed stands.

LiDAR sensors are widely used in many areas and, in recent years, that includes agricultural tasks. In this work, a self-developed mobile terrestrial laser scanner based on a 2D light detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensor was used to scan an intensive olive orchard, and different algorithms were developed to estimate canopy volume. Canopy volume estimations derived from LiDAR sensor readings were compared to conventional estimations used in fruticulture/horticulture research and the results prove that they are equivalent with coefficients of correlation ranging from r = 0.56 to r = 0.82 depending on the algorithms used. Additionally, tools related to analysis of point cloud data from the LiDAR-based system are proposed to extract further geometrical and structural information from tree row crop canopies to be offered to farmers and technical advisors as digital raster maps. Having high spatial resolution information on canopy geometry (i.e., height, width and volume) and on canopy structure (i.e., light penetrability, leafiness and porosity) may result in better orchard management decisions. Easily obtainable, reliable information on canopy geometry and structure may favour the development of decision support systems either for irrigation, fertilization or canopy management, as well as for variable rate application of agricultural inputs in the framework of precision fruticulture/horticulture.  相似文献

Roots under the load of heavy machinery in spruce trees   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The effects of the passage of forwarders on soil and damage to spruce root systems along an experimental trail were studied. The site was characterized by medium-textured soil of the pseudogley type under favorable moisture conditions. Due to the passages, the soil was compacted down to a depth of 20 cm, soil porosity was decreased by 5% (volume) and soil aeration was decreased by more than 5%. Substantially higher values of mechanical soil resistance occurred (estimated by penetrometric measurements) in a soil pit situated in a rut after passages. Pressure measured by sensors placed at a depth of 10 cm below the soil surface reached values ranging from 0.09 to 0.11 MPa in plots uncovered with slash and 0.03–0.07 MPa in plots covered with slash after two to four passages, and 0.06–0.07 after six to ten passages. Soil surface deformations occurred in the upper soil layers through tire impression. This resulted in the origin of ruts, whose depth and width was dependent on the type of tires, their load, surface conditions, type and texture of soil, soil moisture and number of passages. Pressure in the soil layers imposed by the tire of a given type, inflation and load changed in relation to depth, ground cover, soil properties and reinforcing components on the soil surface. Sap flow in coarse roots actually treated by a moving heavy load clearly and immediately responded with a sharp increase followed by a similar decrease (peak flow) after several minutes. On average, the flow rate decreased by about 8% after the first treatment compared to the untreated state, and remained the same after passing the peak during the second pass when the maximum load was applied. However, this decrease amounted to about 40%, when compared to the “relative zero flow” after root severing. This indicates serious local damage to the conducting system. Even when loading directly damaged rather small fractions of the total root systems, it opened tree tissues to subsequent fungal infection, whose impact could be very serious in future years. Flow in stem sections oriented in the opposite direction to the trail and the flow in stem sections and root buttresses oriented toward the trail (but where roots were not actually growing below the trail or grew deeper in the soil), neither responded to the treatment or responded insignificantly. Sap flow responded only in surface roots below trails, occurring down to a depth of about 10 cm below the original soil (litter) surface. This occurred only when a significant part of the roots (with the total projected area of treated root branches more then 500 cm2) were under the tires. This indicates the protective ability of soils and also, a possible method of artificial root protection.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Die Anwendung von Virusfangpflanzen — gewächshausgezogene Sämlinge, die für eine begrenzte Zeit dem Blattlausflug ausgesetzt werden — für epidemiologische Untersuchungen blattlausübertragbarer Viren wird anhand von Untersuchungen in Berliner Unkraut- und Ruderalbeständen und Untersuchungen in Citrus-Pflanzungen in Nelspruit, Südafrika, diskutiert. Mit dieser Methode kann die jahreszeitliche Ausbreitung von blattlausübertragbaren Viren an einem Standort festgestellt und in Beziehung zur Flugaktivität der Blattlausüberträger gesetzt werden.
Summary The use of virus trap plants — glasshouse-raised seedlings that are exposed to the aphid flight for limited periods — for epidemiological investigations of aphid-borne virus diseases is dicussed in relation to investigations in weed communities at Berlin and in citrus groves at Nelspruit, South Africa. By using this method, the annual spread of aphid-borne virus diseases at a site can be determined and related to the flight activity of the aphid vectors.

Efforts are being made to identify sources of starches with unique end-use properties, such as thermal properties, within a wide array of maize germplasm. Because redundancy may exist when evaluating these traits, it would be useful to know the pattern of correlation among traits involved to focus the expensive stage of evaluation of germplasm on traits that do not provide redundant information. The objectives of this study were to analyze the pattern of correlations between starch gelatinization and retrogradation-associated traits in a group of 12 Argentine maize inbred lines and to develop predictive models among traits when possible. Traits measured by differential scanning calorimetry included gelatinization and retrogradation properties. Pearson correlation coefficients among starch thermal properties were determined from univariate analyses, and canonical correlations were determined from multivariate analyses. Canonical correlation analyses were more sensitive in detecting associations between starch gelatinization and retrogradation parameters than univariate analyses. Multiple regression equations to estimate the change in enthalpy of starch gelatinization and retrogradation traits, especially for change in enthalpy and percentage of retrogradation, were obtained and validated with an independent data set.  相似文献

Two pineapple varieties differing in resistance to fusariose were examined for the phytotoxic effect of Fusarium subglutinans culture filtrate. The cultivars were Perolera (more resistant to pathovars of Fusarium subglutinans) and Smooth Cayenne (more susceptible). The phytotoxic effect of culture filtrate was assessed in tissue culture pineapple plantlets (by electrolyte leakage and placing the culture filtrate on wound leaf segments) and callus (inhibition of growth). Smooth Cayenne proved to be the most sensitive cultivar in each test, whereas Perolera showed resistance to the culture filtrate and its callus grew in the presence of high concentrations of culture filtrate that were completely toxic to Smooth Cayenne. These results show that plants can display cellular resistance to the culture filtrate. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献
