The glucose responses to intravenous injections of a range of doses of recombinant human insulin were determined for six mares known to be insulin sensitive and six mares known to be insulin insensitive, with the goal of better characterizing the regression lines resulting from the two categories of mares. Insulin doses between 8 and 198 mU of insulin per kg of body weight (mU/kg BW) were administered intravenously between September 13 and 26, 2010, starting with 50 mU/kg BW on the first day. Higher and lower doses were administered on alternate days to obtain percentages of decreases in blood glucose concentrations between 10% and 70%. Linear regression analysis revealed that insulin-insensitive mares have glucose response curves with higher y intercepts (P = .066), less steep slopes (P = .0003), and less goodness of fit (P = .053) in addition to the expected greater dose required to produce a 50% reduction in blood glucose concentrations (ED50; P = .006), despite the similarities between their body weights and those of insulin-sensitive mares. Linear and nonlinear regression of responses to the 32, 50, and 79 mU/kg BW insulin doses with the overall estimates of ED50 and the natural log of ED50 indicated that the 50 mU/kg BW dose had the greatest coefficient of determination (>0.95). Generally, it appears that estimates of insulin sensitivity based on a single injection of insulin or on multiple injections of insulin are least variable for insulin-sensitive mares.  相似文献

Blackleg and soft rot diseases, caused by the bacteriumErwinia carotovora, are among the diseases that cause important losses in culture and storage of potato. In this paper, we introduced bacterial resistance into potato, via genes encoding for proteins with antibacterial activity. For this purpose, potato clones were transformed either with the gene encoding the acidic attacin protein fromHyalophora cecropia, or with the gene encoding the cecropin analog peptide SB37. These clones were evaluated for soft rot and blackleg resistance, after inoculation with the bacterial strainErwinia carotovora subsp.atroseptica T7. Results reported in this paper indicate that a considerable percentage of the potato clones (15–22%) showed increased resistance to bacterial infection, revealed by reduced severity of blackleg or soft rot symptoms. Expression of the transgenes was demonstrated in some of the clones by Northern blot analysis. This is the first report indicating that expression of the gene encoding for an attacin protein and for the cecropin SB-37 peptide in transgenic potato confers increased resistance to bacterial infection.  相似文献

The in vitro activity of 10 cephalosporin antimicrobial agents against 75 isolates of methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus pseudintermedius derived from dogs was assessed. The lowest minimal inhibitory concentration for 90% of strains (MIC90) values obtained were for cephalothin, cefovecin, and cefazolin (0.12 ug/mL), followed by ceftiofur and cefoxitin (0.25 ug/mL), cefpodoxime (0.5 ug/mL), and cefaclor and cefadroxil (1 ug/mL). The highest MIC90 values were found for cephalexin and cefixime (2 ug/mL). In this in vitro study, sensitivity to cephalothin was indicative of cephalexin susceptibility, although there were marked differences in MICs. Cephalothin susceptibility was not indicative of susceptibility to all tested cephalosporins, nor was there a clear trend in susceptibility based on cephalosporin generation.  相似文献

Field trials carried out between 1982 and 1984 to evaluate potato clones and cultivars for their resistance to potato smut indicated that from a total of 179 accessions tested seven were resistant during the three-year tests. Five accessions were resistant during two consecutive trials but then there were not enough tubers available for a retest for the third time. Accessions that were resistant during the three consecutive field trials included Peruvian cultivars Cuzco, Mariva, Mi Peru, Participación and Revolución, and CIP’s clones 376181.5 and 6956.52.  相似文献

为探究不同粒径养殖底砂对方斑东风螺(Babylonia areolata)稚螺养成效果的影响,在微流水养殖系统中采用3种不同粒径养殖底砂(细砂1 mm、中砂2 mm和粗砂3 mm)进行了养殖对比试验,比较其对稚螺生长、消化、抗氧化的影响以及对底质氨氮、亚硝酸盐氮含量的影响。试验稚螺的初始体质量、壳高、壳宽分别为(0.263 3±0.0033)g、(10.67±0.11)mm、(7.06±0.15)mm,试验周期为30 d。结果显示:试验结束时,细砂组稚螺的体质量、壳高、壳宽分别为(0.560 3±0.026 3)g、(12.72±0.06)mm、(8.50±0.16)mm,存活率为(92.67±0.94)%,均显著高于中砂组和粗砂组(P<0.05);随着养殖时间的推移,中砂组和粗砂组稚螺的存活率逐步降低,试验结束时分别降至(58.22±4.57)%、(48.44±1.13)%;中砂组稚螺最终的体质量、壳高、壳宽分别为(0.452 0±0.024 6)g、(12.13±0.17)mm、(7.91±0.13)mm,粗砂组分别为(0.427 5±0.019 6)g、(12.26±0.0...  相似文献

Four different oil emulsion infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) vaccines were inoculated into four-week-old specific pathogen-free chickens. At weekly intervals for five weeks, sera were obtained from the vaccinated birds and from uninoculated control birds and examined for antibodies against IBDV by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), the quantitative agar gel precipitin (QAGP) test and the virus neutralisation (VN) test. There was a highly significant correlation between the mean responses to all tests; the highest correlation (0.818) was between VN and QAGP and the lowest (0.573) between QAGP and ELISA. Generally the ELISA detected positive sera earlier than the VN test which in turn was more sensitive than the QAGP test. The ELISA and QAGP test were less variable, more reproducible and easier to perform than the VN test.  相似文献

A study on erythrocyte distribution was performed on 10 healthy, nonstressed adult white Pekin ducks. Results indicated 2 populations of erythrocytes, with average mean corpuscular volumes of 128.37 fl/cell and 308.50 fl/cell. Variations in erythrogram patterns were evident over time, when comparing specimens from different ducks or the same duck. There were 5 patterns of cell number/volume distribution observed between the 2 cell populations when all ducks were studied. Females had a greater change than did males when population density and volume percentage comparisons were made on erythrocyte compartments.  相似文献
