Soil hydraulic parameters are essential inputs to agricultural and hydrologic models for simulating soil moisture. These parameters however are difficult to obtain especially when the application is aimed at the regional scale. Laboratory and field methods have been used for quantifying soil hydraulic parameters but they are proved to be laborious and expensive. An emerging alternative of estimating soil hydraulic parameters is soil moisture model inversion using remote sensing (RS) data. Although soil hydraulic parameters could not be derived directly from remote sensing, they could be quantified by the inverse modeling of RS data. In this study, we conducted a multi-criteria inverse modeling approach to estimate the rootzone soil hydraulic parameters in a rainfed rice field at depths 3, 12, 28 and 60 cm, respectively. The conditioning data used in the inverse modeling are leaf area index (LAI) and actual evapotranspiration (ETa) from satellite imageries, and soil moisture (SM) data from in situ measurements. The performances of all the model inversion experiments were evaluated against observed soil moisture in the field, and measured LAI during the growing season. The results showed that using remotely sensed LAI and ETa in the inverse modeling provided a good matching between observed and simulated soil moisture down to 28 cm depth from the soil surface. With the addition of soil moisture information from the site, the model inversion significantly improved the soil moisture simulation up to a depth of 60 cm.  相似文献

This study was conducted on an irrigated area of southern Italy to analyze the current operation of a large-scale irrigation delivery system and the effects of the operation procedures on crop irrigation management and aquifer salinity increase. The area is characterized by relatively high levels of groundwater salinity in the summer that are probably due to intensive groundwater pumping by farmers during periods of peak irrigation demand, with the resulting seawater intrusion. Two alternative delivery schedules, namely the rotation delivery schedule and the flexible delivery schedule, referred to as RDS and FDS, respectively, were simulated using a soil-water balance model under different combinations of crop, soil and climatic conditions. The first set of simulations concerned the farm irrigation management constrained by the rotational delivery used by the local water management organization. The second scenario simulated the farm irrigation schedule most commonly used by growers in the area for maximizing crop yields. Based on crop irrigation management under RDS and FDS, two alternative operational scenarios were also developed at the scheme level and then compared for evaluation. Winter and summer salinity maps of the aquifer were developed by interpolating salinity measurements of the groundwater samples collected during the 2006 irrigation season. From these maps, a close relationship can be inferred among delivery schedule, aquifer exploitation and salinity increase, which justifies the need for implementing FDS that might reduce the groundwater demand for irrigation.  相似文献

This study describes a detailed and systematic investigation on the effect of thermal processing in terms of temperature and time (kinetic study) on β-carotene in vitro bioaccessibility in carrots. β-Carotene in vitro bioaccessibility increased with increasing processing temperature and time until steady-state conditions were reached after prolonged heating. The bioaccessibility values in steady-state conditions were temperature dependent. The experimental bioaccessibility data could adequately be modeled with a fractional conversion model. For the first time, modeling of processing-induced bioaccessibility changes is reported in literature. The results of the present kinetic study were used to estimate the impact of industrially relevant thermal processes on β-carotene bioaccessibility in carrots by simulation. It was shown that, to achieve a high β-carotene bioaccessibility, processing of carrots is essential (i.e., on the one hand, intense thermal processing or, on the other hand, mild thermal processing combined with intense mechanical processing).  相似文献

The quality of development in intensive or mesocosm hatchery‐reared Dicentrarchus labrax larvae was investigated using physiological indicators assessing ontogeny. Larvae were reared in intensive (120 L tanks) and in mesocosm systems (20 m3 enclosures) with the same feeding sequence, excluding the wild zooplankton naturally available in mesocosms. Faster growth was recorded since early development [16 day after hatching (DAH)] in the mesocosm. Maturation of the digestive system also occurred earlier as indicated by the higher amylase secretion ratios, the intestinal maturation index (alkaline phosphatase/leucine–alanine peptidase and aminopeptidase‐N/leucine–alanine peptidase ratios) and the more developed intestinal epithelium at 23 DAH. Nevertheless, the delay in digestive maturation in the intensive system seemed retrieved within few days. In both the groups, the number of vertebrae ranged between 24 and 26, with the dominant class being 25 vertebrae. However, the distributions differed between treatments for meristic characteristics, ossification stages and incidence of malformation types. Loss of a vertebra was more frequent in the intensive system, while the appearance of an additional vertebra was more frequent in the mesocosm. Ossification at 37 DAH was also more advanced in the mesocosm in addition to a lesser rate and severity of skeletal malformations. It is suggested that the early nutritional contribution of mesocosm wild zooplankton, yet at densities of 0.2–0.7 prey mL?1, had key effects on larvae development since the early stages.  相似文献

Swine slurry is a common agricultural fertilizer in many countries. However, its long‐term use in large amounts can cause excess nutrient accumulation, alter soil compounds, and potentially influence critical microbial populations such as arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, which have important roles in plant nutrition and soil sustainability. This work determined if arbuscular mycorrhizal status, external mycelium, and glomalin‐related soil protein content were affected by long‐term swine slurry application to different soil tillage systems. The experiment was conducted on a clayey oxisol, in southern Brazil. Swine slurry (0, 30, 60, 90, and 120 m3 ha−1 y−1) was applied for 15 years to conventional tillage and no tillage soil prior to the summer (soybean or maize) and winter (wheat or oats) crop seasons. Swine slurry decreased mycorrhizal root colonization, spore number, and total external mycelium. Swine slurry increased active external mycelium and both easily extractable and total glomalin‐related soil protein. No‐tillage soil had more glomalin‐related soil protein than conventional tillage soil. The most significant response variables were root colonization, easily extractable glomalin‐related soil protein, and total external arbuscular mycorrhizal mycelia. Long‐term application of swine slurry in this environment, even at high rates, did not adversely affect crop yield but did influence arbuscular mycorrhizae fungi and their products in the soil environment. Benefits of swine slurry application for crop nutrition must be weighed against potential adverse consequences for the size, activity, and benefits of the mycorrhizal community to subsequent annual crops. The ever-increasing interest in keeping a young appearance and healthy skin has leveraged the skincare industry. This, coupled together with the increased concern regarding the safety of synthetic products, has boosted the demand for new and safer natural ingredients. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to evaluate the dermatological potential of the brown seaweed Carpomitra costata. The antioxidant, anti-enzymatic, antimicrobial, photoprotective and anti-inflammatory properties of five C. costata fractions (F1–F5) were evaluated. The ethyl acetate fraction (F3) demonstrated the most promising results, with the best ability to scavenge 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals (EC50 of 140.1 µg/mL) and the capacity to reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) production promoted by UVA and UVB radiation in 3T3 cells, revealing its antioxidant and photoprotective potential. This fraction also exhibited the highest anti-enzymatic capacity, inhibiting the activities of collagenase, elastase and tyrosinase (IC50 of 7.2, 4.8 and 85.9 µg/mL, respectively). Moreover, F3 showed anti-inflammatory potential, reducing TNF-α and IL-6 release induced by LPS treatment in RAW 264.7 cells. These bioactivities may be related to the presence of phenolic compounds, such as phlorotannins, as demonstrated by NMR analysis. The results highlight the potential of C. costata as a source of bioactive ingredients for further dermatological applications.  相似文献

Scintigraphy is currently the reference standard for diagnosing feline hyperthyroidism; however, computed tomography (CT) is more widely available in veterinary practice. The purposes of this prospective study were to describe the CT appearance of thyroid glands in cats with hyperthyroidism and compare CT findings with findings from 99mTc–pertechnetate scintigraphy. Twenty‐five adult hyperthyroid cats were included. Plain CT images were acquired for each cat and the following characteristics recorded for each thyroid lobe: visibility, delineation, position, attenuation, shape, and subjective size. Scintigraphic images were also acquired and the following characteristics recorded: radiopharmaceutical uptake, delineation, ectopic foci, shape, and subjective size. In CT images, thyroid lobes were most commonly found between the second and fourth cervical vertebrae, dorsolateral to the trachea. Affected thyroid lobes (based on scintigraphy reference standard) were most commonly oval and moderately enlarged in CT images. A heterogeneous attenuation pattern (isoattenuating to adjacent soft tissues with hypo‐ and hyperattenuating foci) was most commonly found in affected thyroid lobes. A positive correlation (P < 0.01) was identified between CT and scintigraphy for left‐to‐right thyroid lobe size relationship and subjective size of the larger thyroid lobe. The CT estimated mass was significantly higher (median = 148.8; range = [0;357.6]) for the more active thyroid lobe compared to the less active thyroid lobe (median = 84.6; range = [0;312.3]); (W = 154; P < 0.01). Findings indicated that CT may not reliably differentiate unilateral vs. bilateral hyperthyroidism in cats; however, CT may be a reliable alternative test for correctly identifying the more active thyroid lobe.  相似文献

In order to determine whether the high level of inbreeding of the Retuertas endangered Horses may increase the vulnerability to oxidative stress of the sperm, the susceptibility to lipid peroxidation (LPO) of sperm membranes was evaluated in cooled extended ejaculates. Extended ejaculates (INRA 96) from four Retuertas horses and nine ejaculates from pure Spanish horses were received within 24 hours of collection at our laboratory. An aliquot was analyzed and served as time 0 control. The rest of the ejaculates were split into two additional aliquots: the first aliquot served as an incubation control and the second aliquot received an oxidative insult (Fe2SO4). Membrane LPO, motility parameters, membrane integrity, and mitochondrial membrane potential were evaluated. The oxidative insult induced a significant increase in the percentage of sperm with LPO in the Retuertas horses (P < .05). Total and progressive motility were not affected by the oxidative insult in both groups. However, curvilinear velocity (VCL), average velocity (VAP), straightness index (STR), and amplitude of lateral head displacement (ALH) were significantly affected by the treatment (P < .05) in the Retuertas horse population. The membrane integrity of sperm in this group was also affected: the percentage of sperm with intact membranes decreased (57.31% ± 7.76% vs. 47.52% ± 8.28%); and the percentage of necrotic sperm increased (33.27% ± 7.83% vs. 44.85% ± 9.16%) (P < .05). Finally, the oxidative insult increased the population with low mitochondrial membrane potential in these wild horses. We concluded that the high level of inbreeding of this particular breed apparently leads to a higher susceptibility to lipid peroxidation.  相似文献
