Immunity-related genes and gene families in Anopheles gambiae   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
We have identified 242 Anopheles gambiae genes from 18 gene families implicated in innate immunity and have detected marked diversification relative to Drosophila melanogaster. Immune-related gene families involved in recognition, signal modulation, and effector systems show a marked deficit of orthologs and excessive gene expansions, possibly reflecting selection pressures from different pathogens encountered in these insects' very different life-styles. In contrast, the multifunctional Toll signal transduction pathway is substantially conserved, presumably because of counterselection for developmental stability. Representative expression profiles confirm that sequence diversification is accompanied by specific responses to different immune challenges. Alternative RNA splicing may also contribute to expansion of the immune repertoire.  相似文献

High-resolution spectra of the CN B2 summation operator +-X2 summation operator + (0,0) band at 390 nanometers yield isotopic ratios for comets C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp) and C/2000 WM1 (LINEAR) as follows: 165 +/- 40 and 115 +/- 20 for 12C/13C, 140 +/- 35 and 140 +/- 30 for 14N/15N. Our N isotopic measurements are lower than the terrestrial 14N/15N = 272 and the ratio for Hale-Bopp from measurements of HCN, the presumed parent species of CN. This isotopic anomaly suggests the existence of other parent(s) of CN, with an even lower N isotopic ratio. Organic compounds like those found in interplanetary dust particles are good candidates.  相似文献

From the comparison of interstellar gas tracers in the solar neighborhood (HI and CO lines from the atomic and molecular gas, dust thermal emission, and g rays from cosmic-ray interactions with gas), we unveil vast clouds of cold dust and dark gas, invisible in HI and CO but detected in gamma rays. They surround all the nearby CO clouds and bridge the dense cores to broader atomic clouds, thus providing a key link in the evolution of interstellar clouds. The relation between the masses in the molecular, dark, and atomic phases in the local clouds implies a dark gas mass in the Milky Way comparable to the molecular one.  相似文献

Changes in use of both stored and newly synthesized sources of carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) were investigated during rooting of leafy cuttings of Larix x eurolepis A. Henry. We used dual (13)C and (15)N long-term labeling of reserves of stock plants and followed isotope dilution of the labels in the cuttings to determine the respective proportions of C and N derived from stock plant reserves (Q(C,old), Q(N,old)) and from newly synthesized sources (Q(C,new), Q(N,new)). We also assessed their partitioning into the growing needles and roots. Because rooting development occurred over several months, destructive harvests were made during three periods (t(0): April 9; t(1): May 15 to June 5; t(2): June 12 to June 26). Total C content (Q(C)) of cuttings did not change with time, whereas total N content (Q(N)) decreased significantly between t(0) and t(2). In rooted cuttings, unlike unrooted cuttings, total N concentration decreased less markedly in needles and in the lower stem component between t(1) and t(2) than between t(0) and t(2). The lower stem of rooted cuttings contained more Q(N,old) than that of unrooted cuttings and showed lower C:N and (13)C:(15)N ratios. The increase in Q(N,new) in the lower stem was positively correlated with rooting status. At t(1), new roots appeared and grew mainly at the expense of Q(C,new) and Q(N,old). By t(2), root growth was mainly dependent on new assimilates. We conclude that in leafy cuttings the initial amount of N reserves, rather than C reserves, may constitute a limiting factor for rooting.  相似文献

To monitor seasonal water consumption of agricultural fields at large scale, spatially averaged surface fluxes of sensible heat (H) and latent heat (LvE) are required. The scintillation method is shown to be a promising device for obtaining the area-averaged sensible heat fluxes, on a scale of up to 10 km. These fluxes, when combined with a simple available energy model, can be used to derive area-averaged latent heat fluxes. For this purpose, a Large Aperture Scintillometer (LAS) was operated continuously for more than one year over a tall and sparse irrigated oliveyard located in south-central Marrakesh (Morocco). Due to the flood irrigation method used in the site, which induces irregular pattern of soil moisture both in space and time, the comparison between scintillometer-based estimates of daily sensible heat flux (HLAS) and those measured by the classical eddy covariance (EC) method (HEC) showed a large scatter during the irrigation events, while a good correspondence was found during homogenous conditions (dry conditions and days following the rain events). We found, that combining a simple available energy model and the LAS measurements, the latent heat can be reliably predicted at large scale in spite of the large scatter (R2 = 0.72 and RMSE = 18.25 W m−2) that is obtained when comparing the LAS against the EC. This scatter is explained by different factors: the difference in terms of the source areas of the LAS and EC, the closure failure of the energy balance of the EC, and the error in available energy estimates. Additionally, the irrigation efficiency was investigated by comparing measured seasonal evapotranspiration values to those recommended by the FAO. It was found that the visual observation of the physical conditions of the plant is not sufficient to efficiently manage the irrigation, a large quantity of water is lost (≈37% of total irrigation). Consequently, the LAS can be considered as a potentially useful tool to monitor the water consumption in complex conditions.  相似文献

Changes in proanthocyanidin chain length in winelike model solutions   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Reactions of seed and skin proanthocyanidins in the presence or absence of (-)-epicatechin were followed in winelike solutions over 53 days at 30 degrees C. Proanthocyanidins were separated from flavanol monomers by sequential elution from a Sep Pak cartridge, and changes in proanthocyanidin composition were monitored by thiolysis analysis of the proanthocyanidin fraction. In solutions containing no free (-)-epicatechin, trace amounts of monomers were released and important losses of proanthocyanidins were measured, but their average composition and mean degree of polymerization (mDP) were hardly modified. In the presence of (-)-epicatechin, the mDP value decreased and oligomeric proanthocyanidins accumulated throughout the incubation while losses of total units were dramatically reduced. Our data indicate that interflavanic bond cleavage of proanthocyanidins occurred under mild acidic conditions such as encountered in wine and that the resulting carbocation proceeded to unknown species. The latter reaction did not take place in the presence of (-)-epicatechin. Epicatechin added to the intermediate carbocation, thus being incorporated as the end unit of a shorter proanthocyanidin chain. The results of this study are discussed in relation to the loss of astringency reported during wine aging.  相似文献

Three diploid citrus somatic hybrids (cybrids) were produced by fusions combining nucellar callus-derived protoplasts of Willow Leaf mandarin (Citrus deliciosa Ten.) and Commune clementine (Citrus clementina Hort. ex Tan.) with, respectively, leaf protoplasts of Eureka lemon [Citrus limon (L.) Burm.] and Marumi kumquat [Fortunella japonica (Thunb.) Swing.] and leaf protoplasts of Marumi kumquat. Ploidy and origins of the nuclear, chloroplastic, and mitochondrial genomes were investigated by flow cytometry and nuclear and cytoplasmic simple sequence repeat analyses. Volatile compounds were extracted from the leaves of the three cybrids by a pentane/ether (1:1) mixture, analyzed by GC-MS, and compared to those of their parents. The cybrids were found to be very close to their nucleus-giving parent, suggesting that the main information for volatile compounds biosynthesis is contained in the nucleus. However, nucleo-cytoplasmic interactions occurred: the (mandarin + lemon) cybrid, possessing nucleus and chloroplasts of lemon and mitochondria from mandarin, synthesizes more monoterpene alcohols and esters than its nucleus-giving parent; the (clementine + kumquat) cybrid, possessing nucleus from kumquat and organelles from mandarin, synthesizes more monoterpene and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons and sesquiterpene alcohols than its nucleus-giving parent.  相似文献

The adhesion of methyl ricinoleate droplets to cells of the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica was investigated. A new cytometric method, relying on the double staining of fatty globules with Nile Red and of cells with Calcofluor, enabled us to quantify methyl ricinoleate droplet adhesion to cells precultured on a hydrophilic or on a hydrophobic carbon source. In this last case, droplet adsorption was enhanced and a MATS (microbial adhesion to solvents) test revealed that this increase was due to Lewis acid-base interactions and not to an increase in the hydrophobic properties of the cell surface. These preliminary results demonstrate that the developed cytometric method is promising for various applications concerning the study of interactions between microorganisms and an emulsified hydrophobic substrates.  相似文献

Information gains from the seed of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana (Brassicaceae) have greatly contributed to a better understanding of flavonoid synthesis and may be used for crop improvement. However, exhaustive identification of the flavonoid accumulated in Arabidopsis seed was still lacking. Complementary investigations of seed flavonoids by LC-ESI-MS, LC-ESI-MS-MS, and NMR spectroscopy in Arabidopsis led to full characterization of monoglycosides, namely, quercetin 3-O-alpha-rhamnopyranoside and kaempferol 3-O-alpha-rhamnopyranoside, and diglycosides, namely, quercetin and kaempferol 3-O-beta-glucopyranoside-7-O-alpha-rhamnopyranoside and quercetin and kaempferol 3,7-di-O-alpha-rhamnopyranoside. Interestingly, the tt7 mutant that lacks flavonoid-3'-hydroxylase and consequently accumulates only kaempferol derivatives was shown to contain three additional products, kaempferol 3-O-beta-glucopyranoside, kaempferol 3-O-alpha-rhamnopyranoside-7-O-beta-glucopyranoside, and the triglycoside kaempferol 3-O-beta-[alpha-rhamnopyranosyl(1-->2)-glucopyranoside]-7-O-alpha-rhamnopyranoside. Taken together these results allow a scheme for flavonol glycosylation to be proposed.  相似文献
