SUMMARY: This is another report from a series of studies aimed at determining the energy and protein requirements based on the optimum feeding frequency of yellowtail during the winter season. Experiments were conducted at Mie and Oita Prefectures, Japan, employing extruded pellets of known digestible energy (DE) and digestible protein (DP) values. Four groups of fish were fed at frequencies of five, three, two, and one time(s) per week. The most efficient feed performance was obtained for the feeding frequenecy of three times per week. The DE and DP requirements calculated based on the feeding rate at this frequency were 38.7 kcal and 2.8 g/kgBW per day (14.3–17.3°C) in Mie and 30.4 kcal and 2.2 g/kgBW per day (13.8–17.5°C) in Oita, respectively. The present results and the observations on the changes of the contents in digestive tracts tallied with our previous work, confirming that the optimum feeding frequency was three times per week. 相似文献

A 4-year-old female Miniature Dachshund was referred with a chief complaint of right periorbital swelling that had not responded to antibiotic therapy. Ultrasonography and fine-needle aspiration revealed that the periorbital lesion had a cystic structure without any inflammatory or neoplastic cells. Computed tomography (CT) showed that the cyst occupied a defect in the periorbital maxillary, lacrimal, and frontal bones and had invaded the nasal cavity. The lesion was histologically suspected by incisional biopsy as an epithelial cyst. 相似文献

Miniature Ping (mPing) is the first active miniature inverted-repeat transposable element to be identified in rice, and its mobilization is activated by stress treatments. We have examined the mobilization of mPing in four NERICA (New Rice for Africa) lines and 13 interspecific lines. All 17 lines are inbred progenies derived from crosses between Oryza sativa variety WAB56-104 as the recurrent parent and the O. glaberrima variety CG14 as the donor parent. We found that 16 of the 17 lines studied inherited mPing together with its autonomous partner, Pong, from WAB56-104. Transposon display of mPing disclosed polymorphic banding patterns among these lines. Most importantly, seven of the lines displayed clear polymorphic banding patterns for mPing, indicating that mPing might have been mobilized in these lines. Locus-specific PCR analysis also confirmed the mobilization of mPing. These results signify that interspecific hybridization may activate the transposition of mPing. Based on these results, we discuss the potential use of the mPing system as an efficient tool for gene tagging in interspecific hybrid rice. 相似文献

Genetic improvement of resistance to infectious diseases is a challenging goal in animal breeding. Infection resistance involves multiple immunological characteristics, including natural and acquired immunity. In the present study, we developed an experimental model based on genetic selection, to improve immunological phenotypes. We selectively established three mouse lines based on phagocytic activity, antibody production and the combination of these two phenotypes. We analyzed the immunological characteristics of these lines using a lipopolysaccharide (LPS), which is one of the main components of Gram‐negative bacteria. An intense immunological reaction was induced in each of the three mouse lines. Severe loss of body weight and liver damage were observed, and a high level of cytokine messenger RNA was detected in the liver tissue. The mouse line established using a combination of the two selection standards showed unique characteristics relative to the mouse lines selected on the basis of a single phenotype. Our results indicate that genetic selection and breeding is effective, even for immunological phenotypes with a relatively low heritability. Thus, it may be possible to improve resistance to infectious diseases by means of genetic selection. 相似文献

Factors associated with the carriage of antimicrobial-resistant Escherichia coli isolates were analysed among zoo animals. An association was observed between selection of amoxicillin as the first-line therapy and a significantly higher percentage of resistance to ampicillin (54.5%) from 11 animals treated with antimicrobials, compared with isolates from 32 untreated animals (9.4%). In addition, the percentage resistance to kanamycin (36.4%), gentamicin (27.3%), trimethoprim (27.3%) and tetracycline (63.6%) from 11 treated animals was significantly higher than those from 32 untreated animals (3.1%, 3.1%, 3.1% and 25%, respectively), although these antimicrobials were rarely used. All kanamycin-, gentamicin- and trimethoprim-resistant isolates and more than half of the tetracycline-resistant isolates from treated animals were also resistant to ampicillin. Co-resistance to other antimicrobials with ampicillin was suggested to contribute to an increasing of resistance towards antimicrobials that were rarely administered. The present investigation revealed an association of antimicrobial treatment with the spread of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria among zoo animals. 相似文献

Fecal samples were collected from 325 adult cattle and 108 pigs in a slaughterhouse in Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan. Five adult cattle were found to be positive for oocysts of Cryptopsoridium (1.5%). The oocysts were morphologically similar to those of Cryptosporidium andersoni. The partial sequence of the 18S rRNA gene of the isolate was 100% identical with that of the C. andersoni Kawatabi strain. SCID mice were infected after oral administration. Based on the morphology of the oocysts, the sequence of the 18S rRNA gene and the infectivity to SCID mice, the isolate was concluded to be of the same type as the C. andersoni Kawatabi strain that has been isolated in Honshu, the main island of Japan. 相似文献

We examined the 12 antimicrobial susceptibilities of 175 E. coli isolates from sick cattle and pigs by an agar dilution method. Resistance was found in 78.3% of isolates for oxytetracycline, 70.3% of isolates for dihydrostreptomycin, and 49.1% of isolates for ampicillin. When compared with healthy animals reported by Kijima-Tanaka et al., resistance rates for 11 antimicrobial agents were higher in sick cattle than in healthy cattle, and resistance rates for all antimicrobial agents were higher in sick pigs than in healthy pigs. Comparing cattle and pigs, resistance rates to colistin was higher in porcine isolates than in bovine isolates, but was lower in porcine isolates than in bovine isolates for cefazolin. With regard to the association of virulence factors, higher resistance rates to colistin and enrofloxacin were observed in STEC (61 strains) than in non-STEC (57 strains) among porcine isolates, while there were no significant differences in bovine isolates. In conclusion, these results can be considered helpful for adequate selection and prudent use of antimicrobial agents for several types of colibacillosis. 相似文献
