Serum leptin concentrations were measured in antenatal and postnatal cows housed at two different locations. The mean serum leptin concentration was 9.2 +/- 0.6 ng/m l (n=22) in one group, and was slightly lower in the other (7.4 +/- 0.4 ng/ml, n=54), probably because of the different nutritional conditions between the two groups. There was no consistent variation in relation to the menstrual cycle and the periparturient period in both groups. Moreover, serum leptin concentrations during the periparturient period were independent of the number of delivery and the incidence of mastitis and milk fever. These results are quite different from those in rodents and human, suggesting the different regulatory mechanism of circulating leptin concentration in cows. 相似文献

The aim of the present study was to examine the production efficiency of cloned pigs by serial somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) and to ascertain any changes in the telomere lengths of multiple generations of pigs. Using fetal fibroblasts as the starting nuclear donor cells, porcine salivary gland progenitor cells were collected from the resultant first-generation cloned pigs to successively produce second- and third-generation clones, with no significant differences in production efficiency, which ranged from 1.4% (2/140) to 3.3% (13/391) among the 3 generations. The average telomere lengths (terminal restriction fragment values) for the first, second and third generation clones were 16.3, 18.1 and 20.5 kb, respectively, and were comparable to those in age-matched controls. These findings suggest that third-generation cloned pigs can be produced by serial somatic cell cloning without compromising production efficiency and that the telomere lengths of cloned pigs from the first to third generations are normal. 相似文献

Isolation of Rhodococcus equi from the submaxillary lymph nodes of pigs, with or without caseous lymphadenitis, and typing of the isolates by two serological methods were carried out. The rate of isolation of the organisms from the lymph nodes of pigs was 5 times higher in the lymph nodes with caseous lymphadenitis than in those without the lesion. Of 219 isolates, 146 (66.7%) were typable by the method of Prescott, while all the 219 isolates (100%) were typable by the method of Nakazawa et al. The most frequently isolated were serotype 2 of Prescott (identical to serogroup 16 of Nakazawa et al.), and serogroup 3 of Nakazawa et al., which did not correspond with any serotypes of Prescott. Structural and physicochemical characteristics of endosperm starch from milled rice grains of seven Japanese cultivars used in sake production were examined. Amylose content was 15.2–20.2%, number-average degree of polymerization (DPn) of amylose was 900–1,400, and the ratio of short-to-long chain amylopectin was 2.7–3.5, respectively. The degree of retrogradation of purified starch stored for seven days at 4°C after gelatinization was 20–31%. The degree of retrogradation correlated negatively with the ratio of short-to-long chain amylopectin. The effect of holding time after steaming on enzyme digestibility and starch retrogradation of steamed rice grains was investigated. The longer the holding time after steaming, the greater the extent of retrogradation, and the less the degree of enzymatic digestibility. The decreased rate of enzyme digestibility correlated with amylopectin chain length distribution. Samples with short-chain amylopectin exhibited a slow decrease in enzyme digestibility. It was determined that the structure and retrogradation properties of endosperm starch in Japanese rice cultivars affect the decreasing rate of enzyme digestibility of the steamed, milled rice grains. 相似文献

The effects of low pH on upstream migratory behavior in land-locked sockeye salmon Oncorhynchus nerka were examined using 2-way flow-through channels. Homing mature salmon captured at the mouth of their native stream were used. When neutral (pH 6.7) hatchery water of the same origin as native stream water was allowed to flow through both channels, fish showed active swimming into both channels during a 48 hrs period. When water pH in one channel was lowered by the addition of sulfuric acid, salmon completely ceased upstream swimming behavior into areas of pH lower than 6.0, and swam up into only neutral areas. In the lower pond of the 2-way channels, fish also avoided acidic areas even when average pH was 6.2. Since it has been reported that extremely slight changes in pH such as in the pH 6 range inhibits spawning behavior in this species, it is suggested that land-locked sockeye salmon have a sensitive ability to perceive even slight acidity, and avoid environments which may be deleterious to their offspring. 相似文献

Interspecific hybridization is an effective method to generate a new crop that gains available functions in a short time. Interspecific hybrids (2n= 16) betweenAllium fistulosumL. (2n= 16) andAllium schoenoprasumL. (2n= 16) were produced by reciprocal crossings through ovary culture, but the hybrids were much fewer in the combination usingA. schoenoprasumas a seed plant. All the hybrids have eight long chromosomes originated fromA.fistulosumand eight short chromosomes originated fromA. schoenoprasum. In addition, the hybridity was confirmed by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis and cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence (CAPS) analysis of the rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region. The interspecific hybrids showed a vigorous growth habit; their foliage was slightly bloomy and deep green. The hybrids did not form bulbs, but rather propagated vegetatively by tillering. Carotene contents of the hybrids and both parents were quantified using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The contents of all edible parts of the hybrids were approximately seven times higher than those of either parent. These results indicate that the hybrid is a new and carotene-rich vegetable ofAlliumspecies. 相似文献

Ferulic and p‐coumaric acids were analyzed in 50 rice (Oryza sativa L.) samples from 32 cultivars harvested in Japan. In brown rice, ferulic and p‐coumaric acid levels ranged from 309 to 607 mg/kg and from 49 to 100 mg/kg, respectively. In 70% polished rice, ferulic and p‐coumaric acid levels ranged from 27 to 103 mg/kg and from 0.4 to 3.5 mg/kg, respectively. Ratios of average phenolic acid levels in the 70% polished rice to the brown rice were 13.9% for ferulic acid and 1.9% for p‐coumaric acid. The ferulic acid level was highly correlated between brown and 70% polished rice (R = 0.815; P < 0.01), but there was no clear correlation for p‐coumaric acid. Phenolic acid levels in the 70% polished rice did not show any clear correlations between the analytical index measurements for sake brewing suitability (weight of 1,000 grains, water absorption, digestibility, crude protein, and potassium content). Phenolic acid levels in the 70% polished rice directly affected levels in the rice koji enzyme digest. The results indicated that phenolic acid levels in sake were affected by the levels in ingredient rice grains, which may then influence the sensory quality of sake. 相似文献
