Poly ion complexes of anionic lignosulfonic acid (LSA) with cationic poly(2-vinyl pyridine) or poly(4-vinyl pyridine) were
prepared by mixing the polymer solutions in dimethyl sulfoxide or dilute hydrochloric acid. The complexes were formed as soon
as the polymer solutions were mixed. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) measurements for the complexes revealed the presence
of strong ionic interactions between sulfonate anions of LSA and pyridinium cations of the vinyl pyridine (VPy) polymers.
The strong interaction was supported by detection of a glass transition temperature (T
g) much higher than pristine T
g values of VPy polymers in differential scanning calorimetry. By using the ionic complexation, a coating of LSA onto VPy polymer
films was undertaken to modify their original surface property. Formation of a thin complex film was confirmed by observation
of absorption bands that are characteristic of the pyridinium cation in reflection FTIR spectra measurements, and by visualization
of the attached LSA component in atomic force microscopy. This treatment resulted in the surface of the VPy polymer films
becoming hydrophobic. An adhesion test was also conducted by pasting two veneered woods with the polymer complex, followed
by shear-tearing them off. The adhesive strength of the complex was estimated to be 1.1 MPa.

We have previously reported that the scallop shell extract possesses free radical scavenging activity. In this study, we isolated a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of approximately 90 kDa (named 90-kDa protein) which showed 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and superoxide anion radical scavenging, reducing, and ferrous ion-chelating activities. Amino acid composition analysis showed that the 90-kDa protein was rich in Asx (Asp or Asn), Ser and Gly residues. A BLAST search of partial amino acid sequences determined by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization tandem time-of-flight mass spectrometry revealed that the 90-kDa protein is a novel protein. The 90-kDa protein is a yellow protein that contains fluorescent substances. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a radical scavenging protein from the scallop shell. 相似文献

The inhibitory effects on liver microsomal carboxylesterases and erythrocyte membrane esterases produced by an impurity of malathion was investigated. Treatment of rats with an impurity of malathion, O,O,S-trimethyl phosphorothioate (OOS-Me), and its structural analog O,O-dimethyl S-ethyl phosphorothioate (OOS-Et) inhibited liver microsomal malathion and phenthoate carboxylesterases. The inhibition lasted for at least 7 days following a single oral administration of OOS-Me. These treatments inhibited acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and (Na+ + K+)-dependent ATPase of erythrocyte membranes which persisted at least 3 days. OOS-Et was a more potent inhibitor of all the esterases examined than OOS-Me. Pretreatment of rats with a metabolic inducer, phenobarbital, or a metabolic inhibitor, piperonyl butoxide, had no effect on such inhibitory effects on liver microsomal carboxylesterases produced by OOS-Me or OOS-Et. 相似文献

The culture supernatant of peritoneal exudate cells (PEC) from cats with effusive feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) was chemotactic for peripheral blood neutrophils (PBN) from healthy cats, magnitude of the chemotactic activity being approximately 10-fold lower than that in zymosan-activated fresh serum of healthy cats (ZAS). The migration profile of PBN from healthy cats was slightly different between the PEC culture supernatant and ZAS. These findings suggest that the chemotactic activity detected in the PEC culture supernatant is distinct from that in ZAS. The chemotactic responses of PBN from FIP cats to ZAS were reduced, as compared with that from healthy controls. In contrast, the neutrophil chemotactic response and sensitivity to the PEC culture supernatant in FIP cats were not remarkably different from those in healthy controls. Furthermore, the chemotactic responsiveness of PEC from FIP cats to ZAS was slightly different from that of PEC to the PEC culture supernatant. Changes in activities of hepatic lipogenic enzymes, ATP citrate lyase and acetyl-CoA carboxylase, were measured in voles and C57BL mice following neonatal administration of monosodium aspartate (MSA). Hepatic lipogenic enzyme activities in voles were considerably lower than those in mice; these low activities were considered to be one of the characteristics of voles as a herbivore. In the MSA-treated voles and mice, the plasma insulin concentrations increased significantly. The MSA-treated mice showed remarkable obesity and increased lipogenic enzyme activities. In the MSA-treated voles, signs of obesity were not observed and hepatic ATP citrate lyase activity increased significantly; acetyl-CoA carboxylase activity did not increase. 相似文献

In 100 dogs autopsied, glomerular IgA deposition was examined by the immunofluorescence technique and the histopathological features of glomeruli with IgA deposition were examined by light and electron microscopy. The incidence of the IgA deposition was age-related but there were no sex and breed predisposition. Deposition of IgA was observed mainly in mesangial areas in approximately a half (47%) of dogs examined. IgG, IgM and C3 often co-deposited. Histopathology of the glomeruli with IgA deposition indicated increase of mesangial cells, crescent formation, hemispherical deposits in paramesangial areas and glomerular sclerosis. Ultrastructurally electron dense substances positive for IgA deposited in mesangial and paramesangial areas. The examination to know the relation between the severity of IgA deposition and the number of mesangial cells or percent of the cells to total glomerular cells indicated that mesangial cells increased at the early stage of the disease and subsequently epithelial and endothelial cells proliferated as the increasing amount of IgA. Dogs suffering from enteritis or liver diseases showed high incidence of glomerular IgA deposition. 相似文献

Tree retention is understood as a key practice in creating complexity, leading to heterogeneity in resources and habitats in managed stands. In this article, we clarify the long-term effects of tree retention on stand structure and tree-species composition in a 60-year-old Larix kaempferi plantation in central Japan. In our study plot (1.5 ha) there were 18 stems/ha of retained trees (determined by tree-ring analysis), mostly Quercus crispula. We conducted spatial analyses and tested the hypothesis that tree abundance, size structure, and species composition and diversity change with distance from the retained trees. Near the retained trees, L. kaempferi showed a reduction of 40%–60% in basal area, due presumably to the shading effect. In contrast, the nearby area showed greater species diversity in the canopy layer. The retained trees created patches of different species composition in the understory. The spatial gradient of shade and colonization opportunity provided by retained trees greatly affect the distribution of the colonized species, according to their shade tolerance and seed-dispersal ability, which resulted in the stand structure with a heterogeneous shrub-layer vegetation. Retention proved particularly important for the enhancement and long-term maintenance of structural and compositional complexity in L. kaempferi plantations. 相似文献
