The distribution of chemical constituents is known not to be even within a rice kernel. To improve the eating quality of rice or to give it some special traits by adjusting the milling intensity, we investigated the distribution of amylose, nitrogen (N), and specific minerals (P, K, Mg, Ca, and Mn) in rice kernels of 11 cultivars with various characteristics cultivated under similar conditions. The distributions of these constituents were determined using flour samples prepared consecutively by abrasive milling from the outer to the inner portions of hulled rice. In all the cultivars tested, N and the minerals were found to be more abundant in the outer than in the inner portion, but amylose was rich in the inner portion. P, Mg, K, and Mn were extremely rich in the outer portion, while N and Ca were only relatively rich there. Koshihikari, which is the most popular cultivar in Japan because of its excellent eating quality, showed the highest Mg/K ratio in the outermost portion of polished rice. The color of flour samples became pure white going from outside portions toward the center of the kernel, even if the sample was from red rice or purple-black rice because only the surface of hulled rice contains pigments. These findings suggest that the outer portion contains various compounds other than starch and the inner portion contains relatively pure starch. Rice palatability and other characteristics can be improved through controlling the degree of milling using the biased distribution of chemical constituents within a rice kernel.  相似文献

To determine lignin content in triticale and wheat straws, calibration models were built using Fourier transform mid-infrared spectroscopy combined with partial least-squares regression. The best model for triticale and wheat straws was built using averaged spectra with raw spectrum in spectrum format and constant in path length as spectral pretreatments. The values of r(2), root-mean-square error of prediction (RMSEP), and residual predictive deviation (RPD) for the triticale straw model were 0.935, 0.305, and 3.89, respectively. The r(2), RMSEP, and RPD values for the wheat straw model were 0.985, 0.163, and 8.50, respectively. Both models showed good predictive ability. A model built using both triticale and wheat straws indicated that the values of r(2), RMSEP, and RPD were 0.952, 0.27, and 4.63, respectively. This model also showed good predictive ability and could predict lignin contents in triticale and wheat straws with the same high accuracy.  相似文献

Summary

Free and conjugated abscisic acid (ABA) and phaseic acid (PA) concentrations in the seed and pulp of apples (Malus pumila Mill. cv. Tsugaru) and ABA metabolism in the fruit after cis-(+)-ABA application were investigated. In the seed, the levels of cis- and trans-ABA and conjugated cis- and trans-ABA showed a general increase towards harvest, except for the decrease of cis-ABA at 131 d after full bloom (DAFB) (harvest). PA levels reached a peak at 41 DAFB, then decreased until harvest. The levels of free ABA in the seed were higher than those in the pulp. In the pulp, the levels of cis-ABA increased gradually from 20 DAFB and rapidly from 111 DAFB towards harvest. The levels of trans-ABA and conjugated trans-ABA also showed similar changes to cis-ABA, i.e. increased steeply from 111 DAFB. In contrast, the level of conjugated cis-ABA was the highest at 20 DAFB, then fell rapidly until 111 DAFB and then increased again towards harvest. PA showed the highest level at 20 DAFB, then decreased gradually until 111 DAFB and then increased again towards harvest. It is therefore assumed that not only cis-ABA but also its metabolite may be associated with the ripening of apple fruit. Cis- and trans-ABA and conjugated cis- and trans-ABA concentrations in cis-(+)-ABA treated fruit increased significantly on 11 d after ABA application (122 DAFB). However, at 20 d after cis-(+)-ABA application, only trans-ABA and conjugated trans-ABA showed higher levels than those of the untreated control, while the levels of cis-ABA and conjugated cis-ABA fell to the same levels as the untreated control. PA levels did not show significant increase on 11 and 20 d after cis-(+)-ABA application. These results suggest that cis-(+)-ABA treated exogenously to apple fruit may eventually metabolize to trans-ABA, conjugated trans-ABA and further metabolites.  相似文献

Fog chemistry was studied for four years (April 1997–March 2001) at Mt. Rokko (altitude 931 m) in Kobe, Japan. A collection of samples was obtained at a mountainous site close to a highly industrialized area. The samples were collected by an active string-fog collector. The summer fog was dense and frequent. The geography of Mt. Rokko is linked to the seasonality of the occurrence and the thickness of the fog. Among the meteorological parameters, the relative humidity was important for the occurrence of fog. The correlation of the concentrations of the components in fog water indicated that (NH4)2SO4 and/or NH4HSO4 were involved in the process of the formation of fog drops in the atmosphere. The concentration of the components decreased with an increase in the liquid water content (LWC) of the fog, and the seasonal variation of the concentration of some components depended on the seasonal variation of the LWC. The equivalent ratio of NO3 ? to non-sea salt (nss?) SO4 2? was considerably larger than that in precipitation. Ammonium ion accounted for the largest percentage of cations, which indicates that NH4 + was an important counter cation for NO3 ? and nss-SO4 2?. A unique fog event in which the air pollutants seemed to be scavenged stoichiometrically was sometimes observed. The methodology used for collecting fog water at 60 mL intervals provided detailed information.  相似文献

Cloud water deposition to canopies of Cryptomeria japonica at Mt.Rokko, Kobe, Japan, was estimated from throughfall measurements and fog water collections carried out during a full year. Annual cloud frequency was 11.5–15.5% and liquid water content (LWC) was 0.059 g/m3. Since cloud water deposition on to forest canopies was significantly correlated with the amount of fog water collected, the former parameter could be quantitatively derived from throughfall measurements. Annual cloud water deposition on to Cryptomeria canopies was 1420–2860 mm (Av. 2140 mm), corresponding to 90–180% (Av. 122%) of annual rainfall. The rate of deposition was higher at the mountain ridge and the forest edge than at the mountain side and the forest interior. Annual deposition of SO4 2?, NO3 ?, H+ and NH4 + from cloud water was estimated as 204, 153, 2.5 and 58 kg/ha, respectively, equivalent to 5.8–11.7 times the corresponding deposition via rain. The values are equal to, or exceed, the maximum deposition reported for Appalachian forests in the eastern United States. Multiple regression analyses indicate that cloud water deposition on to Cryptomeria canopies was significantly correlated with the following three parameters: cloud frequency, LWC, and wind speed. Thus, these three factors apparently control cloud water deposition on to forest canopies.  相似文献

In Tanzania,the phenology and seasonal variations of the yields of different rice cultivars have rarely been studied,especially under fully-irrigated conditions. A trial was conducted to identify the most suitable calendar for rice production in Tanzania under fully-irrigated conditions. Four popular rice cultivars,NERICA1,Wahiwahi,IR64 and TXD306,were transplanted monthly from January to December 2011. The four cultivars recorded similarly higher or lower yields than the annual means when transplanted in July(0.50–0.57 kg/m2) and April(0.07–0.31 kg/m2). A yield-ranking analysis showed that plants transplanted in July was the most productive while those transplanted in April was the least productive,and also revealed a yield-seasonality for irrigated rice in Tanzania,a low-yield season(April–May),a high-yield season(June–August),and an unstable-yield season(September–March). These yield seasons would appear to be closely linked to seasonal temperature variations. When transplanted in April–May,plants were exposed to very low temperatures between panicle initiation and flowering,apparently reducing yield through cold-induced sterility. Those transplanted in June–August prolonged their growth under relatively low temperatures and increased yield through increasing biomass production. In September–March,yield levels varied greatly due to the shortened phenological growth durations at higher temperatures. We conclude that under fully-irrigated conditions in Tanzania,rice should be transplanted in July to ensure the maximum production and yield stability. The yield-seasonality suggests that implementing measures to protect plants from low and high temperature stress at critical phenological stages may allow year-round rice production under fully-irrigated conditions in Tanzania.  相似文献

We developed a microplate assay method for determining the contents of triacylglycerols(TAGs), phosphatidylcholines(PCs), and free fatty acids(FFAs) in the rice bran of one grain using enzymatic reactions. In this method, enzymes from commercially available kits were used. Optimum reaction conditions were established. It was found that Nonidet P-40 was the optimal among the three surfactants used(Triton X-100, Tween 40, and Nonidet P-40) when lipid was dissolved in a reaction solution. Using this method, it was possible to quantify TAGs, PCs, and FFAs in concentration ranges of 7–150, 5–70, and 8–200 mg L~(–1), respectively. Furthermore, when the TAG contents in the rice bran were measured, the values closely corresponded to those obtained by extracting from large amounts of rice bran. However, sufficient data on the PC and FFA contents in rice bran are not available for valid comparisons. Although this method can accurately quantify the TAG contents in the rice bran of one grain, the accuracy of the PC and FFA contents has not been verified. Hence, future study is necessary.  相似文献

Flowering time is a key trait for geographical and seasonal adaptation of plants and is an important consideration for rice breeders. Recently identified genetic factors provide new insights into this complex trait. The list of genes involved in flowering and their functions tells us that the molecular basis of day-length measurement includes both of the evolution of unique factors and the regulatory adaptation of conserved factors in rice. This information helped identify rice florigen, a mobile flowering signal. Our current view of flowering time regulation incorporates the presence of complex layers of gene networks integrated with the synthesis of florigen protein and its subsequent transport and perception.  相似文献

To search for plant foodstuffs with potent anti-obese activity, we conducted a large scale screening based on the inhibitory activity on adipogenesis and the facilitating activity on adipolysis in vitro. That is, inhibition of intracellular lipid accumulation and facilitation of lipid degradation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes were extensively screened from ethanol and hexane extracts of approximately 100 kinds of plant foodstuffs marketed in Okinawa prefecture, which has been famous for the highest prevalence of exceptionally long-lived individuals in the world. Among them thirty one foodstuffs showed potent inhibitory activity on intracellular lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes, whereas only four foodstuffs showed clear facilitating effect on lipid degradation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Although further study to examine the in vivo effects on adipogenesis and adipolysis is required, this is the first study to investigate anti-obese characteristics of wide range of traditional Okinawa foodstuffs so that the results give useful information to take another look at Okinawa food culture.  相似文献
