Summary Heritabilities and responses to selection for cut flower yield were estimated for a population of gerbera. Broad-sense heritabilities averaged 42 percent, but may be as high as 66 percent. Narrow sense heritabilities averaged 68 percent when based on half-sib families, and averaged 60 percent when based on parent-offspring regression. These results suggest that most genetic variance for flower yield is additive.However, estimates of realized heritability averaged only 16 percent and inbreeding depression was estimated to be at least 38 percent, suggesting a major role for non-additive genetic variance. Nonetheless, selection for cut flower yield is expected to be successful.  相似文献

本研究以57个中国大豆祖先吕系及育成品种和18个美国大豆祖先品系为DNA样品来源,通过随机引物PCR扩增基因组DNA的多态性,探索利用RAPD标记鉴定和相关种质的可能性。研究结果表明,50个10摩尔随机引物共扩增可分辩产物246个,其中82.4%的随机引物可产生多态性产物,所扩增产物的54.4%至少在两个基因毒草境存在差异。上PCR扩增产物分别以1和0记录存在与否。扩增产物间的成对比较可产生非相似  相似文献

Increased yields of some crops have resulted from indirect selection of plant architectural traits related to yield. This study examines the potential relationship between plant architecture and yield for a legume grown under intercropping, Field experiments were conducted in 1991 to examine the response of two cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) genotypes with contrasting plant habits to sole crop and intercrop with pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke), and to identify cowpea traits associated with yield under intercropping. The cultivur with a bush-type habit was higher-yielding in sole crop, whereas the cultivar with a spreading habit was higher-yielding in intercrop. For F2 cowpea populations, pod number was most highly correlated with seed yield in intercrop. The number of branches and nodes, particularly in areas with increased access to light, and increased internode length were also important in intercrop. Selection for improved yield in sole crop may not necessarily lead to improved yield in intercrop, and different plant traits may be more appropriate for cultivars intended for use in inter-crop than for those intended for use in sole crop.  相似文献

Summary Field trials were carried out in Ecuador with two indigenous communities, Ninín Cachipata and La Esperanza, to determine farmers’ preferences for quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) cultivars and to improve PPB processes. More women than men participated, reflecting that quinoa, a primarily subsistence crop, is mainly managed by women. Farmers’ field selection criteria for quinoa in the field were mostly based on yield, earliness and plant colour; however only breeders’ measurements of yield and panicle height significantly correlated to farmer selection scores. Older women gave higher scores than younger women or men, apparently due to a concept of no cultivar being without value. Working in same gender pairs improved evaluation richness. INIAP technicians were more discriminating in their evaluations than farmers. They also used additional selection criteria of disease resistance and uniformity. At seed selection, farmers from Ninín Cachipata, where food security is not assured, chose lines based on yield, while farmers from La Esperanza, where resources are less limiting, also considered seed size, colour, saponin content and marketability. Field characteristics were not taken into consideration at seed selection, signifying that farmers are less interested in those characteristics, or that it was difficult for them to correlate field data when presented in tabular form with seed characteristics. Future trials with small farmers should have fewer lines or replications to avoid farmer fatigue during evaluation. Farmers who grow primarily for subsistence in semi-arid environments have more interest in growing quinoa, and more to gain from having improved cultivars; therefore future participatory efforts should focus on them.  相似文献

The stripe (yellow) rust resistance gene Yr27 was located in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) chromosome 2B and shown to be closely linked to the leaf (brown) rust resistance genes Lr13 and Lr23 in the proximal region of the short arm. Gene Yr27 was genetically independent of Lr16, which is distally located in the same arm. While Yr27 was often difficult to score in segregating seedling populations, it is apparently quite effective in conferring resistance to avirulent cultures under field conditions. The occurrence of Yr27 in Mexican wheat germplasm and the current over-dependence on Yr27 for crop protection in Asia are discussed.  相似文献

Summary The phenotypes of seed progeny (R2 generation) of Oryza sativa L. cv. Taipei 309, which carried the neomycin phosphotransferase II (npt II) gene, were compared with those of non-transformed, protoplast-derived plants of the same generation and non-transformed, seed-derived plants under field and glasshouse conditions. Under both conditions the transgenic plants were generally smaller, took longer to flower and had reduced fertility. Significant differences were observed between individuals within the group of transgenic plants. The npt II gene was present in most of the transgenic plants, but NPT II activity was only detected in a minority of individuals.  相似文献

ABSTRACT Both economic and demographic contexts influence aggregate migration streams at the regional scale. The influence of demographic and economic context on aggregate migration at the nonmetropolitan scale, however, remains unstudied. This paper presents analysis based on 1980 and 1990 Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) data related to age cohort effects on nonmetropolitan population change. The analysis provides enhanced understanding of how demographic factors like the baby boom might influence population movements into and out of nonmetropolitan regions. Using modified age‐cohort decomposition techniques, the analysis demonstrates how the fluctuations in nonmetropolitan population growth between 1975 and 1990 are tied to the differential migration flows of the peak baby boom years (those born between 1955 and 1964). The analysis further demonstrates how fluctuations in nonmetropolitan population growth across regions are tied to migration flows of these baby boomers. Management of crocodilians is often based on source-sink dynamics, protecting breeding habitat and concentrating hunting in other areas. Nest distributions shed light on habitat use by breeding populations, which might be used as a basis for monitoring and management. The heterogeneous spatial distribution of Melanosuchus niger and Caiman crocodilus in Amazonia has been suggested to reflect past hunting pressure, often underestimating the natural ecological peculiarities of these species. Ground nest surveys combined with satellite imagery allowed us to evaluate whether nest-site use by M. niger and C. crocodilus reflects environmental constraints or is a result of hunting pressure. Our results indicate that there is little evidence that hunting pressure shapes nest-site use of these species in our study areas. M. niger nests mainly on the shores of stable, temporally impounded floodplain lakes isolated from the early stages of the annual rising water of main rivers. This behavior facilitates the identification of suitable nesting sites using moderate-resolution remote-sensing tools and should guide monitoring efforts and the protection of these areas. In contrast, C. crocodilus is a generalist species, able to nest hundreds of meters inside the forest far from permanent water. This makes the occurrence and distribution of nesting-sites unpredictable using Landsat images. Although nests of this species can be found around lakes where nests of M. niger also occur, the protection of these sites might help to preserve only a small portion of C. crocodilus nesting females. Thus, conservation strategies for C. crocodilus should probably be based on different approaches.  相似文献

Background: Diaphragmatic paralysis is a relatively uncommon medical condition in animals not reported in alpacas. Objectives: Describe the signalment, physical examination, diagnostic testing, clinical, and histopathologic findings related to diaphragmatic paralysis in alpacas. Animals: Eleven alpacas with spontaneous diaphragmatic paralysis. Methods: A retrospective study examined medical records from a 10‐year period and identified 11 alpacas with confirmed diaphragmatic paralysis admitted to Washington State University and Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospitals between September 2003 and October 2009. Results: The 11 alpacas ranged in age from 2 to 12 months. Fluoroscopic imaging confirmed the presence of bilateral diaphragmatic paralysis in the 7 alpacas that were imaged. Arterial blood gas analyses showed hypercapnea, hypoxemia, and low oxygen saturation. Seven alpacas died or were euthanized between 2 and 60 days after onset of respiratory signs. Histopathologic examination of tissues found phrenic nerve degeneration in the 6 alpacas that were necropsied and additional long nerves examined demonstrated degeneration in 2 of these animals. Two animals had spinal cord lesions and 2 had diaphragm muscle abnormalities. No etiologic agent was identified in the alpacas. Conclusions and Clinical Importance: The etiology for diaphragmatic paralysis in these alpacas is unknown. A variety of medical treatments did not appear to alter the outcome.  相似文献
