Different bioactive molecules, such as CGRP-like peptides, can be found in fish protein hydrolysates. Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a neuropeptide known to act as a potent arterial and venous vasodilator in humans. This study focuses on the industrial obtaining of CGRP-like molecules from saithe (Pollachius virens) byproduct, derived from the filleting process. Protein from P. virens was primarily hydrolyzed with Alcalase and later treated with Saccharomyces cerevisiae live cells. Treatment with Saccharomyces doubled the quantity of bioactive molecules obtained. The CGRP-like molecules were partially purified by chromatography, and the immunoreactive material was further analyzed for its CGRP-like bioactivity, using a specific radioreceptor assay. The concentration of CGRP-like molecules increased over 100-fold after purification. The bioactive molecules were able to induce cyclic AMP stimulation in rat liver membranes. This study presents new sample preparation and analytical procedures for the quantification of pesticides on processed tea leaves. The new method includes tea extraction and dispersive solid phase extraction (d-SPE) to prepare gas chromatography (GC) and ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC)-ready samples, providing a fast and cost-effective solution for time-sensitive industrial analysis to fulfill regulatory requirements. Both GC-negative chemical ionization mass spectrometry (GC-NCI-MS) and UHPLC-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) were employed to produce highly sensitive and reproducible data. Excellent limits of detection (typically below 1 μg/kg for GC and 10 μg/kg for UHPLC), wide linearity ranges, and good recoveries (mostly >70%) were achieved on the selected pesticides. Twenty-seven tea samples purchased from local grocery stores were analyzed using the newly developed methods. Among the pesticides analyzed, endosulfan sulfate and kelthane were the most frequently detected by GC-NCI-MS and imidacloprid and acetamiprid by UHPLC-MS/MS in these teas. The samples were found to be relatively clean, with <1 mg/kg of total pesticide residues. The organic-labeled teas were significantly cleaner than nonorganic ones. High molecular weight glutenin subunits (HMW‐GS) were isolated from wheat flour and polymerized in vitro at pH 3.0 with different oxidizing agents (KBrO3, KIO3, H2O2). An oxidation protocol with single addition of oxidant (single‐step oxidation) was compared with a set‐up in which the oxidant was added in multiple steps (stepwise oxidation). Changes in size distribution were evaluated with size‐exclusion HPLC, multilayer SDS‐PAGE, and flow‐field flow fractionation (flow‐FFF). Flow‐FFF is particularly suitable for measuring changes in glutenin size in the very high size ranges. In order of increasing sizes of the resulting polymers, the different oxidizing agents could be ranked as KBrO3 < KIO3 < H2O2. However, none of the oxidation conditions allowed for a complete polymerization of HMW‐GS. Interestingly, it was found that high concentrations of KIO3 negatively affect the degree of polymerization. A similar observation was not made with KBrO3 or H2O2. SDS‐PAGE showed that y‐type HMW‐GS particularly failed to incorporate in glutenin polymers. Simultaneously, these HMW‐GS displayed higher mobilities on SDS‐PAGE that can be ascribed to the formation of intrachain SS bonds.
