ent-Pimara-8(14),15-dien-19-oic acid (PA) isolated from Viguiera arenaria (Asteraceae; Heliantheae) inhibited rat carotid rings contraction induced by phenylephrine (10(-8) mol/l) or potassium chloride (45 mmol/l) at concentration ranging from 5 to 20 microg/ml. This inhibitory effect was not reversible after the removal of this compound from the medium bath.  相似文献

Saplings of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehn. Clone 4544, irrigated with water of differing salinities (2 to 28 dS m-1) and boron concentrations (1 to 30 mg l-1), integrated the history of these stresses through the discrimination of stable isotopes of carbon in leaf and woody tissues. Carbon isotope discrimination (delta) was reduced primarily by salinity. Decreases in discrimination in response to boron stress were detected in the absence of salinity stress, but the decreases were significant only in leaf tissues with visible boron injury. Sapwood core samples indicated that salinity- and boron-induced reductions in delta increased with increasing tree age. Absolute values of delta varied with location of leaf or wood tissue, but relative effects of salinity on the relationship between delta and transpiration efficiency (W) were similar. In response to increasing salinity stress, relative decreases in delta paralleled relative decreases in biomass and both indices yielded similar salt tolerance model parameters. The strong correlations between delta, tree fresh weight, leaf area and W suggest that delta is a useful parameter for evaluating salt tolerance of eucalyptus  相似文献

ent-kaurenoic acid (KA) isolated from Viguiera robusta was tested for activity on vascular smooth muscle contactility. Cumulative concentration-response curves were obtained for a stepwise increase (10(-10)-10(-05) mol/l) in the concentration of phenylephrine (Phe), a selective alpha(1)-adrenergic agonist. The effects in the presence of KA (0.2, 2.0 and 20.0 microg/ml), and 90 min after the removal of KA from the medium bath were compared to controls. At 20.0 microg/ml, KA inhibited the in vitro contractility of rat carotid artery elicited by Phe, but had no effect at lower concentrations (0.2 and 2.0 microg/ml). The effect elicited by KA was reversible after 90 minutes.  相似文献

Seedlings of Taxodium distichum L., Quercus lyrata Walt. and Q. falcata var. pagodaefolia Ell. were grown for 22 days in a rhizotron system providing two soil redox potential regimes, +170 mV (low Eh) and +560 mV (high Eh). Leaf chlorophyll concentration and gas exchange, root alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activity, root and leaf ethylene production, and growth and biomass partitioning were measured. In response to the low Eh soil treatment, stomatal conductance was reduced in Q. falcata and Q. lyrata but not in T. distichum, whereas net photosynthesis was reduced significantly in all species; however, net photosynthesis in T. distichum began to recover within 2 weeks of treatment initiation. Within each treatment, mean stomatal conductance and net photosynthesis were significantly greater in T. distichum than in the oak species. Leaf chlorophyll concentration was not affected by the soil treatments. All species showed significant reductions in root and leaf dry weights in response to the low Eh soil condition. The low Eh soil treatment resulted in increased root ADH activity and ethylene production in T. distichum, but had no effect on root ADH activity and ethylene production in the oak species.  相似文献

Two-year field dissipation studies were conducted in three soil types in Minnesota to examine the processes affecting the dissipation of the herbicide isoxaflutole and its phytotoxic diketonitrile metabolite (DKN) under relatively cool, wet soil conditions. Plots of cuphea were treated with isoxaflutole and potassium bromide, a nonsorbed, nondegraded tracer. Replicate soil cores were collected six times during the growing season to a depth of 1 m, and the bromide or herbicide concentration was measured in each of five depth increments. The dissipation half-life (DT50) of isoxaflutole + DKN was 8-18 days in each soil. Bromide and herbicide concentrations were low at depths >40 cm throughout the study, and herbicide concentrations in soil 100 days after application were usually undetectable. Simulation modeling using Hydrus-1D for the loam soil suggested that plant uptake was an important mechanism of dissipation.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To identify the impact of body mass index (BMI) and Western advertising and media on the stage of the nutrition transition among Jordanian women, and to evaluate their impact on eating styles and body image. DESIGN: A randomised cross-sectional survey that included a variety of culturally measured Likert-type scales and body size images. In addition, BMI was calculated based on measured height and weight. SETTING: In the homes of the participants. The data were collected by female interviewers who worked for the Jordan Department of Statistics. SUBJECTS: The sample was based on a random and representative selection of 800 mostly urban Jordanian women. A pre-test sample of 100 women was also used to validate the instruments. RESULTS: Women tended to agree that they ate based on emotional cues. They had high levels of disordered eating attitudes and behaviours and 42.1% were considered restrained eaters. However, these women also had higher than expected body esteem levels and desired a healthy body size. As expected, being obese was associated with a desire to lose weight, being a restrained and emotional eater, and having more disordered eating attitudes and behaviours. Similarly, Western advertising and media were associated with restrained and emotional eating, desired weight loss, and disordered eating attitudes and behaviours. CONCLUSIONS: There is a need to develop health education materials that explain the influence of obesity on health and the negative psychological and physical consequences of restrained and emotional eating, building on the current cultural preferences of healthy body size. Further implications and suggestions for future research are discussed.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effects of 8 days of light to heavy exercise on gastric ulcer development in horses and determine the efficacy of omeprazole paste in preventing gastric ulceration. DESIGN: Randomized, controlled, multicenter clinical trial. ANIMALS: 102 horses with normal-appearing gastric mucosa on endoscopic examination that were in light to heavy training. PROCEDURES: Horses at 4 trial locations were allocated into replicates and sham dosed orally (empty syringe) or treated with a paste formulation of omeprazole (1 mg/kg [0.45 mg/ lb], PO) once daily for 8 days. Training regimens varied among locations and included early training for western performance events; walking, trotting, and cantering in a mechanical exerciser; and race training (2 locations). Prevalences of gastric ulceration at the completion of the 8-day treatment period were compared between groups. RESULTS: At the end of the 8-day treatment period, the proportion of omeprazole-treated horses free from gastric ulceration (88%) was significantly higher than the proportion of sham-dosed horses free from gastric ulceration (27%). CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Results showed that horses in light to heavy training for as short as 8 days were at risk of developing gastric ulcers and that administration of omeprazole paste decreased the incidence of gastric ulcers.  相似文献

An acute stress response can be provoked by abrupt social, nutritional, and environmental changes associated with weaning, and this may disrupt homeostasis and thus compromise well-being. Manipulating environmental factors, such as photoperiod, might provide a simple way to reduce the physiological consequences that piglets experience due to weaning stress. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impacts of photoperiod manipulation across various weaning ages on leukocyte populations, lymphocyte proliferation, natural killer cytotoxicity (NK), chemotaxis, phagocytosis, and immunoglobulin G, cortisol, and BW of piglets during the nursery phase. Sixty-eight crossbred piglets were obtained from sows kept on a short-day (8 h of light/d) photoperiod from d 90 of gestation until weaning. Piglets were weaned at 14, 21, or 28 d of age and kept on a short or long (16 h of light/d) photoperiod until 10 wk of age. Piglet BW and blood samples were collected at weaning and at 6, 8, and 10 wk of age. Pigs weaned at 28 d had reduced neutrophil counts (P < 0.001), phagocytosis (P < 0.001), and lymphocyte proliferation (P < 0.05) at weaning compared with those weaned at 14 and 21 d. Pigs weaned at 21 d tended to have lower (P = 0.08) lymphocyte counts than did pigs weaned at 14 or 28 d. Pigs weaned at 14 d had reduced (P < 0.01) NK relative to those weaned at 21 or 28 d. Photoperiod also influenced pig BW and immune status. Generally, those pigs on the long-day photoperiod and weaned at 28 d were heavier (P < 0.001) than their counterparts weaned at 14 or 21 d. At 6 wk of age, NK was greater (P = 0.002) in pigs kept on a long day and weaned at 14 or 21 d than in pigs weaned at 28 d. Phagocytosis was less (P = 0.005) at 6 wk of age, but was greater at 8 wk, in piglets kept on the long day and weaned at 28 d than in long-day pigs weaned at 14 or 21 d. These results suggest that photoperiod differentially influences immune responses in piglets weaned at different ages and indicate an inverse relationship between growth and immune status. Here, weaning at 28 d and a long-day photoperiod was the treatment combination that was most physiologically beneficial to piglets, whereas a 14-d weaning and short-day photoperiod was least physiologically beneficial.  相似文献

本文根据田间采样分析资料,探讨了土壤有机质含量的空间变异性,在一定置信水平和估值精度条件下,确定了合理的取样数目,根据半方差分析结果,得出中等变异程度的有机质分布结构,并求出了取样点距之间的最大相关距离。最后讨论了土壤有机质含量的半方函数模型,提出了研究地区土壤有机质采样的间距应增加到20米,以节省人力物力,提高样本分析结果的代表性。  相似文献

To optimize the extraction of sorghum proteins, several variables were examined: sample-to-solvent ratio, detergent type and concentration, reducing agent type and concentration, extraction time, and buffer pH and concentration. Samples were quantified and characterized by RP-HPLC, FZCE, and nitrogen analysis. These studies revealed that pH, detergent type, reducing agent type, and sample-to-solvent ratio all had significant effects on the levels of protein extracted. Increasing SDS concentration (2%) and solvent-to-flour ratio (20:1) with multiple 5 min extracts reduced extraction time by 35-80% while still extracting the same levels of total protein relative to the control methodology. Reproducibility using the multiple extractions was found to be excellent with relative standard deviations of <2% for consecutive extractions.  相似文献
