Factors influencing the serum concentrations of gamma-globulin (gamma-G) during the neonatal period were studied in Shorthorn x Hereford (SH), Africander x SH and Brahman x SH calves born to cows grazing in a tropical environment. There were no significant effects of age of dam, sex or breed of calf on the gamma-G concentrations of calves from birth to 48 hours of age. Concentrations of gamma-G fell within two ranges: group A, 10 to 20 g/l and group B, 35 to 70 g/l. The number of calves in each group was not significantly different between breeds and overall 30% of calves were in group A. Body weight gain from birth to 10-day-old was greater (P less than 0.01) in calves in group B than in group A. Plasma cholesterol concentrations in 10-day-old calves were higher in group B than in group A calves supporting the interpretation that group B calves had higher milk intakes. Identification of calves receiving adequate amounts of colostrum has fundamental significance for the efficient production of cattle in the tropics. 相似文献

Commercially prepared mixtures of dry feed for trout were supplemented with sunflower oil, cod liver oil or emulsions of fish oil in amount of about 5% and were fed to hatchery rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) for an experimental period of 112 days at water temperatures ranging from 13 degrees to 20 degrees C. The fish receiving the fatted pellets were clearly superior to the controls in regard of rate of gain, food utilization and protein utilization. The best results were obtained with additions of sunflower oil. In this case, the rate of gain was 382% as compared with 262% (for the controls), food consumption per weight gain of fish was 1.28 compared with 1.98, PER 2.04 compared with 1.26 and PPW (productive protein value) 34.5 relative to 22.4. Additions of fat to the feed increased the fat content of the experimental fish by about 3%, raising it to an average total of 11.5%. Isoflavones are the most common phytoestrogens found in human diets. However, it is still not clear whether isoflavones have effects on the reproductive and the endocrine systems under normal dietary intake and overdose. The aim of this study was to determine how the most important isoflavones, genistein and daidzein, affect androgen and glucorticoid levels on male prepuberal rats. A hundred and seventy‐five 30‐day‐old male Wistar rats were dosed orally by stomach tube every day for 35 days, with saline solution, low and high doses of genistein, daidzein and a mixture of both. Serum samples were analysed by an enzyme immunoassay for hormone determinations. In control group, there was a peak of testosterone (T) and dihydrotestosterone levels associated to the onset of puberty, at the third week. However, in low‐dose groups, the same peak was found at the fourth week (p < 0.05), indicating a delay in the onset of puberty in these groups. Moreover, high doses groups serum androgen levels were significantly lower (p < 0.05) than the control group from the first week until fifth week. This fact was supported by a epididymal histological analysis that indicate in low doses there were several content of spermatozoa at fourth week and in high doses there were few content of spermatozoa. Besides, corticosterone levels followed the same pattern of androgens in all groups. We can conclude that oral administration of isoflavones in male rats decreased the secretion of androgens and glucocorticoids causing a delay in the onset of puberty and may cause physiological and developmental problems. 相似文献

Mobility and availability of phosphorus from organic and inorganic forms in the rhizosphere of Lolium perenne 1.) In pots (sandwich-technique according to Helal and Sauerbeck), where the soil (Ap-horizon of an Alfisol-Udalf from loess) was separated into a root chamber and an outer chamber (up to 10 mm away from the root chamber), the phosphorus (P) availability of super-P, rock-P (Hyper-P) and organic P [myo-inositol-2-mono-P di(cyclohexylammonium) salt] was studied. P was applied at a rate of 50 mg P kg?1 soil only in the outer chamber. This P fertilization resulted in significant increase of CAL- and water-extractable P in the treatment with organic P and super-P compared to the P0 treatment. During 6 cuts of Lolium perenne organic P showed the same effect on the P-uptake of plants as super-P. Compared to the treatment without P, rock-P had no effect on the P-uptake. The higher P-uptake of Lolium perenne both in the super-P- and organic P-treatment was reflected at the end of the experiment only by the CAL-P content differences between root chamber and outer chamber. The highest activity of acid phosphatase, measured in air dried soil was found in the root chamber of the organic P treatment The content of EUF extractable organic P was significantly higher in the root chamber of the treatments with super-P and organic P than in the P0- and rock-P-treatment. 2.) The P elution was studied with 2 soils (Ap-horizon of an Alfisol-Udalf from loess pH: 6.4; Ah-horizon of a basaltic brown soil pH: 5.4) under lab conditions in columns. In the super-P-and organic P-treatment leached P was mainly inorganic. In the soil with low pH value (5.4), P was leached in the treatment with super-P or organic P in a higher amount of organic P than in the soil with pH 6.4.
