Rice, one of the most important staple food crops of the world, suffers a major setback nutritionally, because it is deficient in bioavailable zinc. In an attempt to answer this problem a field study was performed for two years during 2010 and 2011. Rice plants were treated with selected plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR; P. putida, P. fluorescens, A. lipoferum, B 15, B 17, B 19, BN 17, and BN 30) and plant growth, zinc (Zn) content in different plant parts and grains was analyzed. The data obtained showed enhancement in rice growth and hence, increased rice yield in response to PGPR application. All isolates resulted in almost 1.5- to 2-fold increase in Zn content in roots, shoots as well as grains in comparison to the control. The bacterial isolates B 17, B 19, and BN 17 were of particular interest as they induced the movement of Zn from roots to shoots as well as from husk to the grains, thus making grains enriched in Zn (around 25% higher Zn content). Therefore, it can be concluded that application of PGPR strains is an important strategy to combat the problem of zinc deficiency in rice and consecutively in human masses. 相似文献

One hundred and twenty school girls in the age group of 13–15 years from four Government schools of Ludhiana city were selected for the study. On the basis of their family income they were divided into three experimental groups i.e. income group I (IgI), income group II (IgII) and income group III (IgIII). The results showed that the intake was low for all the foods. However, the consumption of fruits, milk and milk-products, sugar and jaggery, fats and oils by the subjects of IgII and IgIII was significantly higher (p<0.05) than IgI. The mean daily intake of energy, protein, iron, calcium, vitamin A & vitamin C was inadequate while the intake of fibre was adequate by the subjects as compared to ICMR recommendations. There was no significant difference in energy, protein and iron intakes among the subjects of three groups. However, the fibre intake by the subjects of IgI was significantly higher (p<0.05) than the subjects of IgIII, whereas the intake of calcium, vitamin A and ascorbic acid by the subjects of IgII & IgIII was significantly higher (p<0.05) than those of IgI. The average body weights and heights of the subjects were normal. The haemoglobin (Hb) level of the subjects ranged from 8.5–12.5 g/dl with a mean value of 10.73+0.07 and reported that only 23 percent of the subjects had acceptable level. 相似文献

Veterinarians working under remote field conditions are routinely presented with variety of surgical interventions in equines like castrations, management of wound, traumatic and congenital hernias and musculoskeletal disorders thus necessitating the use of general anaesthesia for management of these conditions. The present study was carried out to evaluate and recommend the suitable short term anaesthetic technique for Spiti ponies under field conditions. Seven clinically healthy male Spiti ponies presented for castration were evaluated for short term Total Intravenous Anaesthesia (TIVA) using detomidine (0.02 mg kg(-1)), butorphanol (0.01 mg kg(-1)), 5% guaifenesin (20 mg kg(-1)) and ketamine (2.0 mg kg(-1)). The studies conducted were open label trials and all the animals received same treatment. After proper tetanus prophylaxis and preanesthetic fasting, detomidine was administered intravenously. Subsequently at head down position the animals received butorphanol intravenously. Thereafter, guaifenesin was administered intravenously. As soon as the signs of ataxia developed, the induction of surgical anaesthesia was achieved by intravenous administration of ketamine hydrochloride. The onset of sedation was observed in 2.43 +/- 0.53 min following detomidine administration and the animals were ataxic in 1.43 +/- 0.43 min after butorphanol and guaifenesin administration when ketamine was injected. The ponies were in surgical plane of anaesthesia within 2.28 +/- 0.42 min following ketamine administration. During recovery the limb/head movement and sternal recumbency were attained in 18.71 +/- 1.98 and 26.14 +/- 1.62 min, respectively whereas standing ataxia and normal gait were seen at 29.42 +/- 3.21 and 71.14 +/- 4.74 min, respectively. There was excellent to good muscle relaxation. The surgical anaesthesia remained for 22.57 +/- 1.48 min. The recovery was smooth. Moderate to good suppression of palpebral and corneal reflexes were observed immediately after induction and during anaesthesia. The analgesia was excellent. A highly significant (p < 0.01) to significant (p < 0.05) decrease in respiration rate was observed after induction, during anaesthesia and after recovery. The mean SpO2 value in equines of this group was 76.50 +/- 4.14 and 83.33 +/- 4.18% after induction and during anaesthesia, respectively. Some of the blood biochemical parameters like plasma alanine amino transferase (ALT), total proteins and glucose showed significant increase without clinical consequence. It was concluded that detomidine (0.02 mg kg(-1)), butorphanol (0.01 mg kg(-1)), guaifenesin 5% (20 mg kg(-1)) and ketamine (2.0 mg kg(-1)) combination can safely be used for short term total intravenous anaesthesia in equines under field conditions where the monitoring facilities are meager. 相似文献

Sound and sprouted flours (24 and 48 hr) from bread wheat (WL-1562), durum wheat (PBW-34) and triticale (TL-1210) were stored at room temperature (34.8°C) and relative humidity (66.7%) for 0, 45, 90 and 135 days to assess the changes in physico-chemical and baking properties. Protein, gluten, sedimentation value, starch and crude fat decreased during storage in all the samples; however, the decrease was more in sprouted flours. Free amino acids, proteolytic activity, diastatic activity and damaged starch decreased with increase in storage period. Total sugars and free fatty acids increased more rapidly in the flours of sprouted wheats during 135 days of storage. Loaf volume of breads decreased during storage in both sound and sprouted flour but the mean percent decrease in loaf volume was more in stored sound flours. Aging of sprouted flour for 45 days improved the cookie and cake making properties but further storage was of no value for these baked products.Chapati making properties of stored sound and sprouted flour were inferior to that of fresh counterparts. 相似文献

The present investigation was carried out to study the hypolipidemic effect of dietary fibre from cornbran and blackgram seedcoat in rats. Isoproteinous diet having one percent cholesterol and ten percent dietary fibre from cornbran and blackgram seedcoat was fed to four groups of albino rats for six weeks. With consumption of both the grain husks, total lipids, cholesterol and tryglycerides were lowered while HDL-cholesterol was found to be significantly increased. However, serum phospholipids were not affected significantly by grain husks. Cornbran was observed to be more hypolipidemic than blackgram seedcoat. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate how dietary data collected from 24-hour dietary recalls were incorporated into the development of a quantitative food-frequency questionnaire (QFFQ) for the Apache in Arizona. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study was first conducted using 24-hour dietary recalls to identify foods for inclusion on a QFFQ that would be used to evaluate a nutrition intervention. SETTING: The White Mountain and San Carlos Apache reservations in East-central Arizona. SUBJECTS: The 24-hour dietary recalls were collected from a random sample of 53 adults (34 women and 19 men). RESULTS: A QFFQ was developed that included all foods reported by two or more respondents, plus traditional and seasonal foods. Portion size was assessed using familiar household units and culturally appropriate food models. The final instrument contains 155 foods. Frequency of consumption is assessed using eight categories ranking from 'never or less than once a month' to '2 or more times a day'. Nutrient intakes and the five major food sources of energy, fat and sugar are presented. CONCLUSION: The QFFQ developed is complete and up-to-date for assessing usual food and nutrient intake for the Apache in Arizona. The emergence of NDM‐producing Escherichia coli has considerably threatened human and animal health worldwide. This study describes for the first time in Egypt, the draft genome sequences of emerging NDM‐5‐producing E. coli from humans and dogs, and investigates genetic relatedness between isolates from both sources. Two E. coli from human urine and seven from environmental clinical samples of dogs exhibited resistance to carbapenems and harbouring blaNDM were subjected to Illumina Miseq whole‐genome sequencing (WGS). Assembly and analysis of the reads were performed to identify resistance genes, multilocus sequence types (MLST), plasmid replicon types (Inc) and insertion sequences (IS) of the blaNDM region; core genome MLST (cgMLST) analysis was also performed. Two different NDM alleles were identified; blaNDM‐5 in E. coli HR119 from the urine of a healthy person and environmental samples of dogs, and blaNDM‐1 in E. coli HR135 from a human patient's urine. Multiple mobilizable resistance genes to different antimicrobial classes were identified except the colistin resistance gene, mcr. E. coli isolates from humans and dogs were assigned to different sequence types (STs). Using cgMLST, dog isolates clustered together with only 1–2 allellic differences; however, human E. coli showed 1,978 different allelles compared with dog isolates. Plasmidfinder results indicated the presence of an IncX3 replicon in blaNDM‐5‐producing E. coli; however, blaNDM‐1 was linked to IncCoIKP3. Notably, the NDM region (3 Kb) in all isolates from humans and dogs was highly similar with variable flanking sequences that represented different IS elements. This study reports the first emergence of NDM‐5‐producing E. coli from dogs in Egypt that shared some genetic features with human isolates and could be considered potential public health threats. 相似文献
