28 immature female albino mice were utilized to clarify, if hormonal agents used in the production of meat for human consumption, such as estrogen, remained in higher quantity in meat cut from carcasses of animals which had received hormones for finishing, and if those residues were harmful to the human consumer. The animals were subdivided into 4 equal groups. Group A for control were fed a normal ration. Each mouse in Group B received one daily intraperitoneal injection of 0.2 micrograms of oestradiol propionate. Group C were fed a daily normal ration of 5 g per animal mixed with imported minced meat. Group D were fed as Group C, but local minced meat was used. Sera were collected after one week. There were significant increases in both FSH and LH in Group B. A slight rise in both FSH and LH in Groups C and D. Group A exhibited lower levels of both FSH and LH. The number of Graafian follicles was significantly higher in Group B. Body weight (b.w.) of Group B increased faster than in other groups. Groups C and D were very close to each other in b.w., indicating that imported meat and our local meat were free of any estrogenic residues.  相似文献

The entomogenous nematode,Steinernema carpocapsae was applied in three forms in two fields cultivated with cotton and tomato, under each cotton seedling or tomato plant: a bait like form, a suspension and in irrigation water. High concentrations of 2000 and 1000 IJS/seedling induced 100% mortality (after 5 days), while lower concentrations showed the same result but after 15 days or later. Under all doses of nematode, bait form application was more effective than suspension or irrigated water.  相似文献

Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. masoucida (ASM) is classified as atypical A. salmonicida and brought huge economic damages to the local salmonid aquaculture in China. An ASM strain named AS‐C4 was used to investigate the colonization of ASM in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) by an immersion challenge with the control group (T0, no AS‐C4), group T1 (2.67 × 104 CFU/ml AS‐C4) and group T2 (2.67 × 107 CFU/ml AS‐C4). The numbers of AS‐C4 copies in different fish tissues (gill, intestine, skin, blood, muscle, spleen, liver and kidney) were determined at different time points post challenge using the quantitative real‐time PCR (qRT‐PCR). AS‐C4 were detected in the gill and intestine as early as 0 hr after the challenge both in T1 and T2 groups, suggesting that the gill and intestine were probably the portals of entry of AS‐C4 into salmon. Although AS‐C4 could not be detected in the skin until 24 hr after the challenge in T1 group, it could be detected in the skin as early as 0 hr after the challenge in T2 group, indicating that the skin may also be a portal of entry of AS‐C4 into salmon. AS‐C4 was immediately detected in the blood within 3 hr after it entered the host, suggesting that AS‐C4 successfully invaded the bloodstream of fish. After AS‐C4 colonized the host, it colonized the internal tissues, such as the spleen, liver, kidney and muscle. The results of this study will contribute to the understanding of the pathogenesis of the ASM strains and give a broader understanding of the infection route of ASM in it's host, providing more information for the development of new therapeutic strategies to protect against this pathogen in aquaculture.  相似文献

Effects of organic wastes (biosolids, horse manure, sawdust and neem leaf litter [NLL]), an arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungusGlomus intraradices, and a plant growth-promoting rhizobacteriumPseudomonas putida, were studied on the growth of tomato and on the reproduction ofMeloidogvne incognita. Pseudomonas putida andG. intraradices promoted tomato growth in nematode-infected and nematode-free plants but growth promotion was higher in the infected ones. WhenP. putida andG. intraradices were applied together, the increase in tomato growth was greater than when either agent was applied alone. Of the organic wastes, NLL was better in improving tomato growth of nematode-infected plants followed by biosolids, horse manure and sawdust. Combined use of NLL withP. putida plusG. intraradices was best in improving growth of the infected plants. Root colonization byP. putida was increased more when inoculated withG. intraradices than when inoculated singly. Of the organic wastes, use of sawdust withP. putida caused a greater increase in root colonization by fluorescent pseudomonads followed by NLL, horse manure and biosolids. Nematode parasitism had an adverse effect on root colonization byP. putida. Inoculation ofP. putida and organic wastes increased the root colonization caused by the AM fungus.P. putida was better in reducing galling and nematode multiplication thanG. intraradices, whereas use of the two together was better than that of either of them alone. Among organic wastes, NLL was better in reducing galling and nematode multiplication followed by biosolids, horse manure and sawdust. Combined use of NLL withP. putida plusG. intraradices was better in reducing galling and nematode multiplication than any other treatment.  相似文献

Studies were conducted into effects of Rift Valley fever virus on oestrous and vaginal cytology in non-pregnant ewes. 6 pregnant and 8 non-pregnant local Barki ewes were subcutaneously inoculated with different doses of virus isolated from Sharkia Province. Observed were irregularities in the oestrous cycle (20-28 days inoculation) and anoestrum. The anoestrum smears included large non-cornified epithelial cells with large well stains centrally located nuclei together with a large number of bacteria. Abortion and retention of placenta occurred in pregnant ewes with prolonged puerperal heat up to 70 days. Inoculation of virus was followed by thermal response. Re-isolation of virus in BHK cells was possible from aborted foetuses and placenta.  相似文献

The present work aimed to describe the normal computed tomography (CT) and cross‐sectional anatomy of the nasal and paranasal sinuses in sheep and to correlate these features with the relevant clinical practices. Twenty apparent healthy heads of Egyptian native breed of sheep (Baladi sheep) of both sexes were used for studying these sinuses. CT images and their closely identical cross sections of the same head were selected and serially labelled in a progression from the rostral nasal region to the caudal aspect of the head using cheek teeth as landmarks. The current investigation reported seven sinuses in sheep, including maxillary, frontal, lacrimal and sphenoidal as paranasal, as well as dorsal and middle conchal and ethmoidal as nasal with unnoticeable palatine and ventral nasal conchal sinuses. The boundaries, extension, structure and communications of these sinuses were fully described. The current study provided anatomical guidelines for surgical interference in the frontal and maxillary sinuses during trephination, dehorning and sinuscopy. Also, an acceptable anatomical explanation was reported in this study for the high incidence of maxillary sinusitis than other sinuses. CT and cross‐sectional anatomy could be used as helpful database for diagnosis and clinical interference of the nasal and paranasal sinuses in sheep.  相似文献

Simple, rapid, and accurate methods have been developed for determining vitamin B1 in pharmaceutical preparations without prior separation of the vitamin. The methods are based on the desulfurization reaction with potassium plumbite and measurement of the unreacted lead(II) ions at 217 nm using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), or by titration with EDTA at pH 4.5 with the lead ion selective electrode and Gran's plot. The results compare favorably with those obtained using the USP fluorometric method. Recoveries of pure vitamin B1 averaged 99.1%, with a standard deviation of 0.8%, and 99.0%, with a standard deviation of 0.7%, for the AAS and ion selective electrode procedures, respectively.  相似文献
