Cyanophytes are the most ancient photosynthetic organisms. During its evolution, they have developed various ecophysiological adaptation strategies to survive in extreme conditions. The environment prevailing under biofloc cultures provides various conditions appropriate for cyanobacterial proliferation. An outdoor experiment (7 weeks) was performed with a simple random design consisting of four inoculation levels (by triplicate) of Oscillatoria sp. (0.0, 0.1, 0.5 and 1 mg L?1) in saltwater biofloc. The objective was to evaluate the effect of the cyanobacteria inoculation on water quality and tilapia production parameters. The results indicated that the amount of Oscillatoria sp. inoculated significantly affected water quality (pH, chlorophyll a, TSS and NO3‐N) and tilapia parameters (final weight, feed conversion ratio, specific growth rate and survival). No significant effects on dissolved oxygen, total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) or NO2‐N were observed. We recommend identifying the cyanobacteria species that are able to grow in a biofloc system and their possible adverse effects on the system. 相似文献
In wine making, the bacteriolytic activity of lysozyme has primarily been used to control the malolactic fermentation in wines. The use of lysozyme in musts before settling and the beginning of the alcoholic fermentation to inhibit the growth of lactic acid bacteria could be very beneficial. In a resistance test carried out in MT/b broth, lysozyme had greater antimicrobial activity toward Oenococcus oeni than Lactobacillus species. Several strains of wine bacteria belonging to Oenococcus proved sensitive to the bacteriolytic activity of lysozyme at low concentrations in both synthetic medium (MT/b) (50 mg/L), white must, or red must made with or without the skins (100 mg/L). Lactobacillus and Pediococcus strains survived at lysozyme concentrations of 200-500 and 500 mg/L, respectively, in MT/b and musts. Suspended solids in unclarified musts may strongly bind to lysozyme thereby causing its removal by filtration or centrifugation. One hour after lysozyme was added to musts, it was quantified by HPLC and found after centrifugation to be 40-50% and only 10% in musts made with or without the skins, respectively. Although appreciable amounts of lysozyme were bound to wine components, this did not appear to be a serious hindrance to lysozyme activity. 相似文献
Intensive culture of the hybrid surubim (Pseudoplatystoma corruscans × Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum) in Brazil is responsible for the occurrence of diseases and consequent economic losses. However, the causative agents are not well known. The objective of this study was to isolate and to characterize the pathogenic agent responsible for mortalities in cultured surubim and to demonstrate its virulence. Ten fish from a fish farm located in the Mato Grosso do Sul State (Brazil) were collected and 14 haemolytic bacteria characterized as Aeromonas hydrophila were isolated from the kidneys (eight) and brain (six). As an experimental challenge, fish weighing 98.1±23.6 g were injected with 1 mL of saline solution and 2 × 102, 2 × 104, 2 × 106 and 2 × 108 CFU A. hydrophila mL?1. Fish infected with 2 × 108 CFU showed increased external and internal symptoms and mortality of 50±12.5% after 96 h. Increased A. hydrophila concentration was responsible for a decrease in haematocrit percentage and erythrocyte number, lymphocytes and eosinophils, as well as an increase in monocytes, neutrophils, serum agglutination titre and serum antimicrobial activity. It was concluded that A. hydrophila was responsible for characteristic symptoms of bacterial haemorrhagic septicaemia as well as important haematological and immunological alterations, which led to surubim mortality. 相似文献
Pistil abortion is considered to be an evolutionary adaptation to save resources in andromonoecious species, balancing the number of pistils with the resources available. It follows that large-fruited species/cultivars should have greater levels of pistil abortion. Working in olive, we found that pistil abortion, expressed as percentage of staminate flowers, was positively correlated to the average ovary mass at bloom, across cultivars with different ovary/fruit mass. Since ovary mass correlated with fruit mass, pistil abortion also correlated with fruit mass. The absolute number of perfect flowers per inflorescence was negatively correlated with both ovary mass and pistil abortion, while the number of staminate flowers per inflorescence increased with both parameters. The total number of flowers (i.e. staminate + perfect) was not correlated to ovary mass or pistil abortion, suggesting that male function was not affected. The results support the hypothesis that pistil abortion is related to competition for resources among ovaries, and suggest that genetic differences in pistil abortion among olive cultivars may be explained by their different pistil mass and sink strength. 相似文献
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of four levels of molasses on chemical composition, in vitro digestibility, methane production and fatty acid profile of canola silages. A canola (Brassica napus var. Monty) crop was established in a small-scale agricultural farm and harvested 148 days after sowing. Four levels of molasses were tested with respect to the fresh weight (1.5 kg); these were 1% (CS-1), 2% (CS-2), 3% (CS-3) and 4% (CS-4) molasses, and 0% molasses (CS-0) was included as a control. A total of 45 microsilages were prepared using PVC pipes (4 in. of diameter × 20 cm of length), and the forage was compressed using a manual press. The effects of control and treatments were tested using the general linear model Y?=?μ?+?Ti?+?Eij. The linolenic acid (C18:3n3), palmitic acid (C16:0) and linoleic acid methyl ester (C18:2n6c) accounted for 30%, 21% and 10.5% of total fatty acids, respectively; the fermentation parameters and in vitro methane production were not affected (P?>?0.05) by treatments; in vitro digestibility decreased significantly (P?<?0.05) as the level of molasses increased. It was concluded that CS-4 improved the DM content by 9% and showed high content of linolenic acid methyl ester. The gross energy of canola silages could favour the oleic acid methyl ester.
The dichloromethane and ethanol extracts of Olea europaea wood (picual olive cultivar) were screened for antioxidant activity, determined by the DPPH free radical scavenging assay. The ethanol extract displayed potent antioxidant activity. 相似文献
