Intravascular lymphoma is a rare presentation of lymphoma with a predilection to the central nervous system (CNS). A 9-year-old male-neutered Collie presented with a 3-month history of lymphadenopathy and a 6-day history of an acute onset, progressive, painful, symmetrical L4-S3 myelopathy. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed multifocal extradural spinal cord compressions from L3 to L6 secondary to a bilaterally enlarged and occluded ventral vertebral venous plexus (VVVP). Histopathology revealed low-grade lymphoma within the venous plexus in the lumbar vertebral column, tracheobronchial lymph nodes, and tonsils. Intravascular lymphoma should be considered a differential diagnosis for enlarged VVVP causing compression of the spinal cord.  相似文献

Dairy records from the Dairy Recording Service of Kenya were classified into low, medium and high production systems based on mean 305-day milk yield using the K-means clustering method. Milk and fertility records were then analysed to develop genetic evaluation systems accounting for genotype-by-environment interaction between the production systems. Data comprised 26,638 lactation yield, 3,505 fat yield, 9,235 age at first calving and 17,870 calving interval records from 12,631 cows which were descendants of 2,554 sires and 8,433 dams. An animal model was used to estimate variance components, genetic correlations and breeding values for the production systems. Variance components increased with production means, apart from genetic group variances, which decreased from the low to the high production system. Moderate heritabilities were estimated for milk traits (0.21–0.27) and fat traits (0.11–0.38). Low heritabilities were estimated for lactation length (0.04–0.10) and calving interval (0.03–0.06). Moderate heritabilities (0.25–0.26) were estimated for age at first calving, except under the high production system (0.05). Within production systems, lactation milk yield, 305-day milk yield and lactation length had high positive genetic correlations (0.52–0.96), while lactation milk yield and lactation length with age at first calving had negative genetic correlations. Milk yield and calving interval were positively correlated except under the low production system. The genetic correlations for lactation milk yield and 305-day milk yield between low and medium (0.48 ± 0.20 and 0.46 ± 0.21) and low and high production systems’ (0.74 ± 0.15 and 0.62 ± 0.17) were significantly lower than one. Milk yield in the low production system is, therefore, a genetically different trait. The low genetic correlations between the three production systems for most milk production and fertility traits suggested that sires should be selected based on progeny performance in the targeted production system.  相似文献

This paper sets forth the accomplishments to date of the international collaborative study program on efficient and equitable transfer of water from agriculture to other uses. The research consists of several components. First a bibliographical review was prepared of literature available on the practice of inter-sector water transfer. Second, nine case studies have been prepared that illustrate inter-sector water transfer under a variety of physical and economic and political environments. Third, a framework has been developed for characterizing and comparing water transfer options and compensation among case studies. We discuss the pricing of irrigation water in determining compensation. We develop a decision tree that traces the paths to the various sector water transfer options. Finally, we discuss water transfer policy options with specific reference to Taiwan, though they have more general relevance. Three options are identified which reflect different objectives for government intervention.  相似文献

  1. Reservoirs and associated river fragments are novel ecosystems not experienced by fishes in their evolutionary history, yet they are now commonplace across the globe. Understanding how fishes use these novel habitats is vital to conservation efforts in contemporary riverscapes.
  2. Movement patterns of the endangered razorback sucker (Xyrauchen texanus) synthesized from tagging efforts in the upper Colorado River basin, USA, illustrate the applications of tagging technology and data sharing by multiple agencies to better understand the spatial ecology of large river fishes.
  3. Tagging studies between 2014 and 2018 in Lake Powell and its two main tributary rivers, the Colorado (unfragmented) and San Juan (waterfall‐fragmented), were used to quantify movement of razorback sucker within this river–reservoir habitat complex. In addition, facilitated translocations of fish upstream of a waterfall barrier in the San Juan River were assessed in 2016–2017.
  4. Extensive movement of fish occurred within and across river and reservoir habitats. Of 722 fish captured in the Colorado River arm of Lake Powell, 36% of re‐encounters occurred upstream in the Colorado or Green rivers, or fish dispersed through the reservoir and were detected in the San Juan River arm. Fourteen fish moved more than 600 km. In the San Juan arm of the reservoir, 29% and 20% of fish in 2017 and 2018, respectively, had moved ~30–40 km upstream below the waterfall in the San Juan River within a year. In 2016–2017, 303 fish were translocated upstream of the waterfall into the San Juan River, but 80% were re‐encountered downstream of the waterfall within a year.
  5. Long‐distance movements by razorback sucker were common within and among rivers and reservoirs illustrating how large river fish, in general, might maintain population connectivity in highly altered ecosystems.

  • 1. In 1996, the long‐term water quality monitoring network (WQMN) program in the Indian River Lagoon (IRL) of the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) that began in 1988 was redesigned to eliminate statistically redundant sampling and satisfy modeling requirements.
  • 2. Methods, procedures, and equipment were standardized across multi‐agency monitoring partners to produce reliable and comparable data. The redesigned strategy also included elements to determine previously unknown quantities such as differences in water quality parameters with depth and tidal cycle.
  • 3. Reduction of sampling sites from 150 to 24 resulted in a significant improvement of standard deviation (t‐test; α = 0.05) for most water quality parameters analysed. The enhancement in data quality has demonstrated a more cost‐effective and efficient monitoring tool to measure the water quality of the seagrass environment in the IRL.
  • 4. Results supported the view of a well‐mixed condition at the sampling stations on most days. Refocusing and streamlining the water quality monitoring program within the context of its mission would enable conversion of data into meaningful information regarding the interrelationship among water quality, photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), and seagrass PAR requirements.

Summary The bread wheat cultivars Pasqua and Katepwa, and durum wheat cultivars Kyle and D8257 were used to test the effects of sowing Phaeosphaeria nodorum-shrivelled seed. In a controlled environment, emergence, tillering, and dry weight of seedlings were compared at two sowing depths. Emergence, tillering and plant dry weights were also determined in field plots in 1992 and 1993, as were yield and thousand kernel weight (TKW) in plants inoculated with P. nodorum. Under controlled conditions the level of shrivelling did not affect emergence at depths of 25 mm and, except for Katepwa, 50 mm. Deeper seeding reduced emergence regardless of the level of shrivelling. Seeding depth did not affect dry weight of roots and shoots and the effect on tillering was inconsistent in the two years. Dry root weight was positively correlated with original seed size and decreased with level of shrivelling. In the field, seedling emergence of severely shrivelled seed was significantly lower in Katepwa and Pasqua. Tillers per plant appeared to increase with increased level of shrivelling, but was significant only for D8257 in one year. Dry tiller weight was inversely related to tillering and decreased consistently with level of shrivelling. Excepting Pasqua, in one year, yield and TKW did not differ between plots originating from plump or shrivelled seed. Inoculation with P. nodorum caused a significant reduction in TKW and yield in all cultivars but Kyle. Seed shrivelled due to P. nodorum was in general found to be as suitable as plump seed for growing a wheat crop.  相似文献

Embryogenic calli derived from anther cultures of the two-rowed winter barley cultivar Igri were plated on solid L3 medium containing the proline analogue hydroxyproline (Hyp), 10–20 mmol l–1. Exposure to Hyp caused severe degeneration of most of the calli. Hyp resistant calli, distinguishable by their lighter colour and higher growth rate, and control calli not exposed to Hyp were plated on L3 regeneration medium. From 22,500 anthers exposed to Hyp 46 Hyp resistant regenerates were obtained, which were transferred to soil. After cultivation for 5–10 weeks at normal growth conditions they were cold hardened at 2 C under short day conditions together with control regenerates. Frost tolerance assays with segments of fully grown leaves of unhardened and cold hardened plants revealed that Hyp resistant regenerants were significantly more frost tolerant than the control regenerants. Improved frost tolerance was found also in the progenies R1 to R9, and genotypic segregation in the R1 generation in a 1:2:1 ratio was indicated. Increased proline content was observed in the R2 generation and in subsequent generations and was significantly (P 0.001) correlated with increased frost tolerance in the Hyp lines. Comparative studies of R9 progenies from homozygous R2 plants with the wild type Igri under field conditions in winter at three locations in Europe as well as crossing experiments confirmed the heritable improvement of frost tolerance and winter survival, respectively, in the Hyp lines. The results support the hypothesis that proline accumulation in cold acclimated winter barley plants is causally related to the acquisition of frost tolerance. Moreover, the described biotechnological procedure may be applicable in breeding programs for improved winter hardiness and possibly also for other stress tolerances.  相似文献
