This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary probiotic supplementation on growth performance, fish welfare, sensory evaluation, freshness during ice storage and changes in intestinal microbiota of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The 9‐week feeding trial was conducted in cages under commercial conditions during the winter season, when water temperature decreased from 14°C to 7°C. Fish were fed either a diet without probiotic supplementation (control) or with 0.2% (2 × 109 CFU kg?1 diet) of multi‐strain probiotic bacteria (Bacillus sp., Pediococcus sp., Enterococcus sp., Lactobacillus sp.). Fish weight was recorded at 0, 2, 4, 6 and 9 weeks. Growth performance was not affected by dietary probiotic supplementation. Alternative complement activity (ACH50) was significantly higher in fish fed the diet with probiotic (58.4 ± 3.7 units mL?1) than in the control group (46.9 ± 3.1 units mL?1) (= 0.03). Several biochemical markers were altered by the dietary treatment. 7‐ethoxyresorufin‐O‐deethylase (EROD) (< 0.01), glutathione S‐transferase (GST) (< 0.001), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) (< 0.05) increased and lipid peroxidation (LP) (< 0.01) decreased with dietary probiotic supplementation. Flesh quality and shelf‐life of fish stored on ice was not affected by dietary probiotic supplementation. Probiotic supplementation had a limited effect on the intestinal microbiota. Signal strength of the observed operational taxonomic units (OTUs) differed between the control and treatment samples and could indicate variations in the abundance of certain OTUs. Microbiota adhering to the intestinal mucus varied between sampling points, indicating that changes were associated with water temperature.  相似文献

The trade of live Cancer pagurus in Portugal is totally dependent on imports, mainly from UK. Animals are transported for 48–58 h in conditions that promote high mortalities (40–60%) due to cumulative stressors. The present work aimed to optimize transport, by comparing the physiological responses of edible crab during different simulated live shipment systems for 48 h and recovery conditions: (a) immersed crabs at 12°C; and (b) air‐exposed crabs at 4°C and subsequent recovery at 16°C with and without pre‐acclimation. Both simulated transport systems induced physiological stress, culminating in 25% mortality in immersed conditions and only 4% in air‐exposed conditions. Both systems elicited anaerobic responses marked by hyperglycaemia and increased l ‐lactate concentration in haemolymph. At the end of the recovery period only air‐exposed animals resumed to l ‐lactate and pH control values, the lowest mortality was achieved with crabs acclimated at the lowest temperature (from 6 to 16°C at 1.5°C/h). Overall, results showed that crabs can be transported in air‐exposed conditions at 4°C and acclimated from 6 to 16°C and reach similar physiological conditions than the traditional transport in immersed conditions at 12°C.  相似文献

The current study aimed to determine the effects of dietary probiotic supplementation on growth, gut morphology and non‐specific immune parameters in Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis) juveniles during a 1‐month trial. Fish were fed for 1‐month two diets with 1.0 or 4.6 × 106 CFU kg?1) of probiotic A (Bacillus sp., Pediococcus sp., Enterococcus sp. and Lactobacillus sp.) and two diets with 3.5 or 8.6 × 105 CFU kg?1 of probiotic B (Pediococcus acidilactici) and tested against an unsupplemented diet (control). Growth performance, as well as respiratory burst activity, nitric oxide (NO), alternative complement pathway (ACH50), lysozyme and peroxidase activities, was not affected by the dietary treatments. Probiotic supplementation tended to increased growth homogeneity between tanks having diet A1 the best possible alternative to decrease costs associated to size grading. Villous length and number of goblet cells of the anterior intestine did not vary among treatments. Muscle duodenal layer was significantly thicker in fish fed probiotic A compared to probiotic B, when included at the lowest level (A2 versus B2). The current study indicate that the use of the multispecies probiotic at 1.0 × 106 CFU kg?1 might enhance protection against pathogen outbreak and increase nutrient absorption, whereas at the highest concentration could reduced size dispersion among tanks.  相似文献

Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, which includes Mycobacterium bovis, infrequently causes severe or lethal disease in captive wildlife populations. A dead coati from a wildlife triage center showing pulmonary lesions compatible with tuberculosis had raised suspicion of a potential disease caused by mycobacteria species and was further investigated. Four native coatis (Nasua nasua) with suspected mycobacterial infection were sedated, and bronchoalveolar lavages and tuberculin skin tests (TSTs) were performed. All animals tested positive upon TST. Mycobacterial culturing, Ziehl-Neelsen staining, and genetic testing were performed on postmortem samples and the etiologic agent was identified as M. bovis. Molecular genetic identification using a polymerase chain reaction panel was crucial to achieving a definitive diagnosis.  相似文献

Purpose

Brazilian soils that present extremely hard sub-superficial horizons when dry and friable when humid are similar to the Australian and South African hardsetting horizons whose hardness can be mainly related to low crystallinity. Studies involving refinement by the Rietveld method with X-ray diffraction (RM-XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and their relation have not been carried out in hardsetting horizon soils. Thus, the objective of this study is to obtain information about the kaolinite in the hardsetting horizon of a Yellow Argisol clay fraction, taking into consideration the results of isomorphic substitution, crystallite average size, and microstrains, relating them to particle image analysis regarding their morphology and size.

Materials and methods

Soil samples were collected in the hardsetting horizon of a Yellow Argisol in the Coastal Tablelands region, which covers the whole Brazilian Northeast coast and part of the Southeast region. The sample was powdered, sieved, and submitted to dispersion and physical fractioning process by sedimentation. The clay fraction was analyzed by RM-XRD, AFM, and SEM techniques.

Results and discussion

The RM-XRD provided improvement of indices with isomorphic substitutions in the goethite [Fe0.70Al0.30O(OH)], kaolinite [Al1.44Fe0.56Si2O5(OH)4], and halloysite [Al1.42Fe0.58Si2O5(OH)4]; 29 nm crystallite average size; 5 × 10?3 microstrain; and 49.5% kaolinite. AFM analyses indicated particle average size from 80 to 250 nm and average height from 60 to 80 nm. By relating this data, it was possible to estimate that the particles under analysis are kaolinite composed of 3 to 9 crystallites and stacking of 88 to 112 layers.

Conclusions

The process, analyses, and comparisons such as crystallographic and morphologic information about the kaolinite mineral particles contribute to the comprehension of the hardsetting horizon soil nature as well as other soils that present minerals with a high degree of isomorphic substitution.

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of diets containing pearl millet silage ammoniated with urea on the intake, digestibility, production performance, and nitrogen metabolism of lambs. Thirty‐two uncastrated mixed‐breed lambs at 4 to 5 months of age, with an average initial body weight of 17.39 ± 2.16 kg, were distributed into four treatments in a randomized block experimental design with eight replicates. Experimental diets consisted of pearl millet silage ammoniated with urea during ensiling at the levels of 0, 20, 40, and 60 g/kg dry matter (DM). Increasing urea levels in the pearl millet silage led to a linear decrease (p < .05) in the intakes of DM, organic matter, and total digestible nutrients by the lambs. Total and average daily weight gains decreased linearly (p < .05) with the addition of urea to the silage. Intake and digestibility of crude protein, nitrogen intake, urine urea nitrogen, plasma urea nitrogen, microbial synthesis, and microbial efficiency had a quadratic response (p < .05) to the urea levels in the silage. Pearl millet silage ammoniated with urea reduces dry‐matter intake and daily weight gain in lambs. Urea is not recommended for use in the ensiling of pearl millet.  相似文献
