Gold nanoelectrodes of varied size: transition to molecule-like charging   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A transition from metal-like double-layer capacitive charging to redox-like charging was observed in electrochemical ensemble Coulomb staircase experiments on solutions of gold nanoparticles of varied core size. The monodisperse gold nanoparticles are stabilized by short-chain alkanethiolate monolayers and have 8 to 38 kilodaltons core mass (1.1 to 1.9 nanometers in diameter). Larger cores display Coulomb staircase responses consistent with double-layer charging of metal-electrolyte interfaces, whereas smaller core nanoparticles exhibit redox chemical character, including a large central gap. The change in behavior is consistent with new near-infrared spectroscopic data showing an emerging gap between the highest occupied and lowest unoccupied orbitals of 0.4 to 0.9 electron volt.  相似文献

A 5‐week experiment with 24 multiparous early lactating Brown Swiss cows was conducted to investigate the effects of supplementary rumen‐protected methionine in conjunction with dietary protein reduction on metabolism and performance after 1 week of control measurement. Three rations containing 175, 150 and 125 g of crude protein/kg feed dry matter were supplemented with methionine. The fourth ration, also only containing 125 g of crude protein/kg dry matter, remained unsupplemented. The four treatment groups had a similar metabolic supply of other essential amino acids, protein and energy, as calculated by various approaches. The two low protein rations were, however, slightly deficient in ruminally degraded protein. Treatment effects remained low on feed intake, forage meal pattern, milk yield and fat as well as lactose content. In contrast, the content and yield of milk protein significantly declined only in the unsupplemented low protein ration relative to the initial value. Compared with this ration, the decline in milk protein yield was clearly delayed in the supplemented low protein ration. Blood plasma methionine tended to be reduced without supplementation and to be increased with additional methionine. Supplementation of methionine reduced other plasma amino acids. Plasma insulin, glucose, lactate, ketone bodies and aspartate amino transferase activity indicated a certain liver stress and a somewhat elevated energy requirement with high and particularly with low protein content (when unsupplemented). Methionine improved metabolic protein utilization, followed by the lowest plasma, urine and milk urea levels in the supplemented low protein diet. In conclusion, no major adverse effects were assessed under the conditions tested. Supplementation of methionine may nevertheless be useful in rations with particularly low protein content fed to early lactating cows in order to prevent negative long‐term effects which were only visible here as trends.  相似文献

The bioavailability of orally given oxytetracycline in dependence on calcium (0.7% and 1.4% calcium, respectively) and citric acid content in feed was examined in piglets (9.9 +/- 0.9 kg body weight). In the first trial no citric acid was added to the two feeds, in the second trial 1.5% citric acid was added. In both trials each piglet received an i/v-injection of oxytetracycline (dosage 10 mg/kg body weight) and an oral dose of oxytetracycline (40 mg/kg body weight). The blood samples, taken in definite time intervals, were analysed by a microbiological assay. With these results the kinetic parameters and the bioavailability were calculated. The results of the i/v-trials were identical. The kinetic parameters C1 = 14.91 micrograms/ml, lambda 1 = 3.46 h-1, Cz = 7.49 micrograms/ml and lambda z = 0.19 h-1 describe the graph after i/v-application. The calcium content of the feed had no significant influence on the kinetic parameters after p/o-application, but the piglets receiving citric acid showed a significant higher maximum concentration (Cmax). The bioavailability of orally given oxytetracycline was significantly (26%) increased by the citric acid content. In spite of the citric acid the bioavailability only came to 4.9%.  相似文献

Plasma disposition of aditoprim, a new dihydrofolate reductase inhibitor, was studied in healthy cows and cows with endotoxin-induced mastitis. A single dose of 5 mg of aditoprim/kg of body weight was administered IV to 5 healthy cows and to the same cows 3 weeks later at 2 hours after intramammary infusion of 0.1 mg of endotoxin into the rear quarters. Mastitis developed in all endotoxin-infused quarters and cows had systemic signs of disease (fever, tachycardia, depression) from 2 to 10 hours after infusion of endotoxin. Pharmacokinetic characteristics of aditoprim in healthy cows were a large volume of distribution (6.28 L/kg), a systemic clearance of 0.82 L/h/kg, and an elimination half-life of 7.26 hours. In cows with mastitis, plasma concentrations of aditoprim were lower between 5 and 26 hours after injection. The systemic clearance (1.00 L/h/kg) and the volume of distribution (12.25 L/kg) were significantly higher in cows with mastitis, but elimination half-life was not significantly different. The lower plasma concentrations of aditoprim between 5 and 26 hours after injection in cows with mastitis are explained by fluid compartment shifts and/or blood flow changes induced by mastitis, although increased elimination of aditoprim in cows with mastitis cannot completely be ruled out. The antibacterial activity of aditoprim is nearly the same as that of trimethoprim. The longer elimination half-life time of aditoprim, however, indicates that it may have a practical pharmacotherapeutic advantage over trimethoprim.  相似文献

Ceroid lipofuscinosis was diagnosed by histopathological and histochemical findings in 17 related border collie dogs and by clinical signs in 6 of their litter mates. Behavioural changes, first hyperactivity and later aggression, commenced at 16 to 23 (mean 19.5) months of age. Motor abnormalities and blindness were observed at the mean ages of 20.8 and 21.2 months, respectively. All dogs were euthanased 1 to 6 months after the onset of clinical signs, mean age 23.1 months. Pedigree data supported an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance.  相似文献

The effects of calf age and dam breeds of different milk yield potential on turnover of energy and nutrients were followed in 16 Simmental and 16 Angus beef cows with Angus-sired calves. Calf ages investigated were 1, 4, 7, and 10 mo. The forage offered for ad libitum access consisted of hay for the calves and of a constant mixture of grass silage, meadow hay, and straw (1:0.7:0.3 on a DM basis) for the cows. Calves of 10 mo of age received an additional 2.6 kg DM/d of crushed barley. The animals were kept in groups of four cows and four calves except in the respiration chambers, where only one cow (tethered) and her calf (loose) were grouped together. Indicator techniques were applied to obtain individual data on feces and urine volumes during group housing. In the Simmental cows, heavier on average by 22 kg, voluntary DMI was higher than in the Angus cows (14.0 vs 12.3 kg/d). In calves, DMI from supplementary feeds was 1.6, 3.9, and 6.3 kg/d, on average, at 4, 7, and 10 mo of age, respectively. Dam breed had no significant effect on DMI and ADG of calves and on BW changes of cows. System retention of energy, N, and P showed a curvilinear development with calf age. System energy expenditure, which linearly increased with calf age, was higher with Simmental than with Angus dams (11%), even when adjusted for metabolic BW (8%). Energy loss through methane linearly increased with NDF intake and, consequently, with calf age from 18 to 30 MJ/d (446 to 751 L/d) for cows and calves together. Similarly, fecal and urinary N excretion and fecal P excretion steadily increased with calf age. In calves, the easily volatile N percentage of manure N rapidly decreased from very high levels in young calves. The resulting changes in inclination to gaseous N loss during manure storage for 8 wk were more than compensated by alterations in N intake of the calves, resulting in an increased total system N loss with progressing lactation. Overall, the present results indicate a difference between Angus and Simmental in efficiency of nutrient and energy utilization that might be explained by the difference in amount of delivery of nutrients to the calves via milk vs forage. Suggestions are made as to how the emissions of N, P, and methane, which were excessive in relation to productivity, could be reduced by nutritional means.  相似文献
