Two environmental relief compartments from Sinos Valley, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, interpreted in the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) images, are contaminated, in different ways, by two industrial landfills. One of the landfills is located in a fluvial plain with thin superficial sediments made of expansive clays. In this landfill, metals like Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Pb, Zn, and Ba, have concentrated more than that of other landfill, which is located on a low hill in a sedimentary arenitic terrain. The metals have also accumulated in plant tissues in the investigated areas. Plants have accumulated more Mn, Zn, Ba, and Cu. 相似文献

The consolidation of meagre (Argyrosomus regius) in aquaculture requires an understanding and optimization of larval rearing and nutritional conditions. The aim of this study was to analyse the effects of an early introduction of inert diets during larval rearing, on growth performance, digestive enzymes activity and development of skeletal anomalies. This study evaluated the effects of three different timings for the introduction of inert diet during larval rearing: a control group (CTRL) where inert diet was initiated at 14 days after hatching (DAH) and two treatment groups that had an earlier introduction of inert diet at 8 DAH (T1) and 11 DAH (T2). Meagre larvae exhibited similar pancreatic and intestinal enzymatic activities among the different dietary treatments. No differences in the overall prevalence of anomalies were observed between treatments at 25 or 50 DAH, however, a significant reduction was observed in all groups with the transition from larval to juvenile stage. The precocious introduction of inert diet shifted the distribution of vertebral anomalies to a more anterior vertebral column region. Altogether, this study shows that earlier introduction of inert diets in meagre hatcheries can be beneficial for meagre production in aquaculture. 相似文献

Bacterial diseases cause tilapia's high‐mortality outbreak. This study investigated the toxicity of azithromycin (AZT), a macrolide antibiotic that has been considered a possible therapeutic drug for tilapia aquacultural use. The 48‐h acute toxicity (50% lethal concentration, LC50; 48 h) of AZT was determined for Oreochromis niloticus. Thereafter, fish were exposed to 0, 1, 50 and 100 mg L?1 AZT during 14 days (chronic exposure) and measured the haematological variables, the activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione‐S‐transferase (GST) and the concentration of glutathione (GSH), protein carbonyl and lipid peroxidation in the liver; histopathology was analysed the liver, gills and kidneys. The LC50; 48 h was >100 mg L?1. No fish died during chronic exposure. Haematocrit and haemoglobin concentration increased in fish exposed to 50 and 100 mg L?1, and the total number of leucocyte and thrombocyte increased after exposure to 100 mg L?1 AZT, suggesting a stimulation of defence cell production. In the liver, the antioxidant enzyme activities did not change, but GST activity and the GSH level increased in fish exposed to 100 mg L?1 AZT. Oxidative stress did not occur. Histopathological index (HIL) indicates moderate liver damage; minor histological changes in the gill and no change in the kidneys. AZT was considered non‐toxic for O. niloticus after acute exposure and, although it causes moderated histopathology in the liver after chronic exposure, this antibiotic may be an alternative against bacterial infections, depending on its efficacy to control bacterial disease in fish. 相似文献

Purpose
The fairly high amounts of sediments dredged in coastal or internal water bodies for navigational and/or environmental purposes claims for the identification of appropriate management strategies. Dredged sediments are frequently affected by organic and inorganic contamination, so that their reuse, as an alternative to final landfill disposal, could need remediation. Purpose
Millions of cubic meters of sediments are dredged every year in the world. About 10–20% on weight basis of this material is contaminated by organic and/or inorganic pollutants. This work presents the laboratory tests performed to study a system for the remediation and reuse of mercury-contaminated sediments. The treatment is based on a cement-based granulation step (solidification/stabilization (S/S)), followed by a thermal process under vacuum during which volatile and semi-volatile compounds are removed. The experiments focused on: (1) cement hydration reactions; (2) pollutant removal efficiencies; and (3) leaching behavior, in relation to temperature and duration of the thermal process. Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), rice (Oryza sativa) and maize (Zea mays L.) are the most important cereals worldwide. However, in the last few years, soil has been submitted to both use and handling pressures due to the increase in agricultural practices, which are leading to its degradation. The use of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) as inoculants constitutes a biological alternative for sustainable production. Pseudomonas aurantiaca SR1 was formulated as an inoculant in order to evaluate its growth promotion effect in the field when applied on maize and wheat seeds at the sowing time. P and N fertilization treatments were also included in the assays. P. aurantiaca SR1 colonized the root system of both crops and it persisted at appropriate population densities. It also showed a significant plant growth-promoting effect that was reflected in the yield. Another relevant finding was that both crops, when inoculated with P. aurantiaca SR1, presented higher yields with fertilization doses lower than those conventionally applied. This indicated its potential use as a reasonable alternative for crop production, with a minimization of the ecological impact. 相似文献

Allfalfa and soybean are the most important leguminous plants in the agricultural system of the semiarid pampas of Argentina. The possible action of phosphate solubilizing bacteria on the leguminous-rhizobia symbiosis was studied since in this region the available phosphorus distribution is not uniform. The strains used were Sinorhizobium meliloti 3DOh13, a good solubilizer of iron and phosphorus for alfalfa, Bradyrhizobium japonicum TIIIB for soybean and two phosphorus-solubilizing strains of Pseudomonas putida (SP21 and SP22) for growth promotion treatments. Modification of shoot and root system dry weights occured in soybean but not in alfalfa in presence of Pseudomonas strains. 相似文献

Wild blueberries are a rich source of polyphenols and other compounds that are highly metabolized by the intestinal microbiota and may, at the same time, affect the intestinal environment itself. A repeated-measure, crossover dietary intervention on human volunteers was designed to study the effect of six week consumption of a wild blueberry ( Vaccinium angustifolium ) drink, versus a placebo drink, in modulating the intestinal microbiota. Relative to total eubacteria, Bifidobacterium spp. significantly increased following blueberry treatment (P ≤ 0.05), while Lactobacillus acidophilus increased after both treatments (P ≤ 0.05). No significant differences were observed for Bacteroides spp., Prevotella spp., Enterococcus spp., and Clostridium coccoides . Bifidobacteria, which have been largely proposed to be of benefit for the host, appeared to be selectively favored suggesting an important role for the polyphenols and fiber present in wild blueberries. Results obtained suggest that regular consumption of a wild blueberry drink can positively modulate the composition of the intestinal microbiota. 相似文献

East and Southeast Asia are important pig- and poultry-producing areas, where the majority of production takes place on small-scale farms with low biosecurity levels. This systematic review synthesizes data on swine influenza virology, serology and epidemiology in East and Southeast Asia. A total of 77 research articles, literature reviews and conference papers were selected and analyzed from 510 references retrieved from PubMed and ISI Web of KnowledgeSM. The number of published articles increased in the last 3 years, which may be attributed to improvement in monitoring and/or a better promotion of surveillance data. Nevertheless, large inequalities in surveillance and research among countries are underlined. Virological results represent the largest part of published data, while the serological and epidemiological features of swine influenza in East and Southeast Asia remain poorly described. The literature shows that there have been several emergences of swine influenza in the region, and also considerable evidence of multiple introductions of North American and avian-like European strains. Furthermore, several avian-origin strains are isolated from pigs, including H5 and H9 subtypes. However, their low seroprevalence in swine also shows that pigs remain poorly infected by these subtypes. We conclude that sero-epidemioligical investigations have been neglected, and that they may help to improve virological surveillance. Inter- and intra-continental surveillance of gene flows will benefit the region. Greater investment is needed in swine influenza surveillance, to improve our knowledge of circulating strains as well as the epidemiology and disease burden in the region. 相似文献
