The effects of an organophosphate pesticide phorate on cytoplasmic malate dehydrogenase (cMDH), mitochondrial malate dehydrogenase (mMDH), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), supernatant and mitochondrial proteins of an epigeic (Perionyx sansibaricus), anecic (Lampito mauritii) and endogeic (Metaphire posthuma) earthworms were studied. The treatment of different concentrations (20, 40, 80 and 160 ppm) of phorate for 16 days gradually decreased the specific activities of cMDH, mMDH and LDH as well as cytoplasmic and mitochondrial protein contents. This showed the inhibitory effect of phorate on metabolic enzymes and proteins in tropical earthworms. The inhibition was dose- and time-dependent. The inhibitory response in mitochondrial enzyme (mMDH) and protein was somewhat earlier and more as compared to the inhibitory effect of phorate on cytoplasmic enzymes (cMDH, LDH) and protein. This indicates a greater interference of phorate in cellular respiration of earthworms. The phorate related decreases in enzyme and protein profiles were about 60% and 58% in P. sansibaricus, 54% and 49% in L. mauritii and 47% and 42% in M. posthuma, respectively. It reflects phorate-induced substantial decline in protein synthesis and aerobic and anaerobic capacity of earthworms. The maximum effect of phorate was on epigeic earthworm followed by anecic and endogeic species. The present findings suggest the differential sensitivity of different earthworm species in enzymatic and protein responses to phorate and the sensitivity was associated with the ecophysiological categories of earthworms. 相似文献

Litterfall, leaf litter decomposition and N and P release were studied in four tree species (Dalbergia sissoo, Azadirachta indica, Pongamia pinnata and Shorea robusta) planted on a mine spoil habitat. Annual litterfall varied from 1220 kg ha–1 in the S. robusta stand to 3620 kg ha–1 in the A. indica stand. The fast-growing species A. indica and D. sissoo exhibited higher litter production in comparison to the other two slow-growing species. The total N returned to the soil
through litterfall ranged from 8.6 kg ha–1 year–1 in the S. robusta stand to 36.5 kg ha–1 year–1 in the D. sissoo stand. The annual percent leaf litter mass loss was distinctly greater in A. indica (73%) and D. sissoo (69%) in comparison to P. pinatta (59%) and S. robusta (47%). The mean relative decomposition rates of leaf litter material were maximum in the rainy season and minimum in summer.
Rainfall and its associated variables exhibited greater control over litter docomposition than temperature. Lignin and water-soluble
compounds were better predictors of annual mass loss rates accounting for 90% variability. Mass loss was positively correlated
with N and P mineralization rates. Lignin was the best predictor of annual N and P mineralization rates. Nutrient release
pattern differed; constant release occurred in A. indica, initial release followed by delayed immobilization and release occurred in D. sissoo and P. pinnata, and initial immobilization followed by gradual release was noticed in S. robusta. A. indica and D. sissoo, showing high litterfall and rapid litter decomposition rate, hold promise for the rehabilitation of nutrient-poor coal mine
spoils. On the other hand, S. robusta with less litterfall and a slow decomposition rate may prove disadvantageous.

The physicochemical and gel properties of myofibrillar protein (MFP) from sin croaker fish were studied during ice storage for 18 days. Significant changes in the trends of solubility, Ca2+ ATPase enzyme activity, surface hydrophobicity, and water holding capacity of extracted MFP were observed by the 6th day of storage. The Ca2+ ATPase enzyme activity reduced significantly (p < 0.05) by the 6th day of storage. However, sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) did not show a remarkable change in the concentration of myosin heavy chain. Surface hydrophobicity increased almost four times from its original value of 18.98 µg; whereas, water holding capacity showed a fluctuating trend during storage. The emulsion capacity of the MFP was in the range of 0.89- to 1.92-mL oil/mg protein during storage. The gel strength value (313.45 g.cm) of heat-induced gel prepared from fresh minced meat decreased significantly (p < 0.05) by the 6th day of ice storage. Texture profile analysis revealed that changes in hardness and gumminess were concurrent to steeply reducing breaking force up to the 6th day. The histological observation showed gradually increasing gaps between muscle fibers. The histological observations and physicochemical quality indicated that the sin croaker fish can be used for producing good quality surimi when stored for up to 6 days in ice. 相似文献

AbstractPoor productivity of rice in rainfed lowlands is due to complete submergence as it is a major abiotic stress of these regions. For enhancing the rice productivity of these areas, better nutrient management options are required and results may even better when combined with stress tolerant cultivars, even when tested under natural conditions of farmers’ field. For supporting the above statement, the effect of nitrogen and phosphorus in graded doses was evaluated for submergence tolerance in controlled conditions and the results obtained were tested and validated at farmers’ field in Cuttack, Odisha, India. Shoot elongation, leaf senescence and lodging were lowest with the application of higher phosphorus (60?kg ha?1). Highest dose i.e. 100-60-40 NPK kg ha?1 resulted in higher plant survival of all the varieties by 90–170% over no nutrient application, it was also reflected in the higher growth after recovery, leaf greenness, leaf and stem growth, chlorophyll and carbohydrate concentrations and ultimately higher grain yield. At farmers’ field, application of basal P, K and post-flood N management practice resulted in overall better performance of Swarna and Swarna-Sub1 showing higher yield attributes leading to 65.7 and 37.9% higher grain yield, over conventional practices followed by farmers. Apart from that results were more positive if post-flood nitrogen was applied as urea foliar spray might be due to quick absorption of N by plant leaves and also spraying helps in removing the silt of flood water sticking to the leaf surface and facilitated the plants to photosynthesize and survive after desubmergence. These cost-effective management options may enhance the productivity and profitability of rice in the flood-prone areas where farmers hesitate to apply nutrients. 相似文献

The dynamics of meteorological drought and its relationship with block level rice productivity over the Eastern Indian state of Odisha was assessed during the wet season (June to November) using the standardized precipitation index (SPI). The time series of rainfall data (1983–2008) from 168 rain gauge stations was used to derive the 1- and 3-month SPI of different wet season months. The 1- and 3-month SPI data were interpolated to map spatial patterns of meteorological drought and its severity, and the maps of a drought (2008) and normal (2007) year were discussed in detail. Further, the time series of SPI was exploited to assess the drought risk in Odisha. Correlation analysis of 1- and 3-month SPI with rice productivity index (RPI) showed that the SPI of 1-month time scale particularly in July (r = 0.49) and October (r = 0.33) had significantly stronger relationship with RPI than any of the 3-month SPI individually during wet season. The cumulative degree of severity of drought could be better explained by 3-month SPI map when drought events are well spread in the preceding months. Regression models were developed using 1- and 3-month SPI for forecasting rice productivity of blocks with varying proportion of rainfed area in Odisha. SummaryRandom amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers were used to screen for clonal fidelity in in vitro-propagated plantlets of Spondias mangifera produced through direct organogenesis. One micropropagated plantlet was selected at random after each sub-cultural passage (six sub-cultures), along with the donor plant, for RAPD marker analysis. Twenty-five RAPD primers were used to study genetic similarities or dissimilarities with the mother plant as well as among the regenerated plants. Individual primers showed that the same pattern of RAPD markers was shared by all in vitro-propagated plantlets and the mother plant. No variation was observed among the micropropagated progenies. Thus, in vitro-regenerated plantlets of S. mangifera were clonally uniform and genetically stable. 相似文献
