Manipulation of quantum interference requires that the system under control remains coherent, avoiding (or at least postponing) the phase randomization that can ensue from coupling to an uncontrolled environment. We show that closed-loop coherent control can be used to mitigate the rate of quantum dephasing in a gas-phase ensemble of potassium dimers (K2), which acts as a model system for testing the general concepts of controlling decoherence. Specifically, we adaptively shaped the light pulse used to prepare a vibrational wave packet in electronically excited K2, with the amplitude of quantum beats in the fluorescence signal used as an easily measured surrogate for the purpose of optimizing coherence. The optimal pulse increased the beat amplitude from below the noise level to well above it, and thereby increased the coherence life time as compared with the beats produced by a transform-limited pulse. Closed-loop methods can thus effectively identify states that are robust against dephasing without any previous information about the system-environment interaction.  相似文献

BACKGROUND

Chloris virgata is a troublesome weed in tropical regions. With the evolution of glyphosate resistance in key grass species, acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACCase) inhibitors have become a commonly used tool in soybean production areas in Brazil. We assessed if suspected resistant populations exhibited cross resistance to the different classes of ACCase inhibitors and investigated the resistance mechanisms in C. virgata.

RESULTS

Dose–response experiments revealed resistance to haloxyfop-methyl and pinoxaden, with 432- and 3-fold resistance, respectively, compared to susceptible populations. Due to the lack of genetic resources for C. virgata, we sequenced, assembled, and annotated the genome using short-read Illumina technology. The k-mer analysis estimated a genome size of approximately 336 Mbp, with BUSCO completeness of 97%, and over 36 000 gene models were annotated. We examined if ACCase copy number variation and increased gene expression were involved in the resistance phenotype and found no difference when compared to a susceptible population. A mutation was detected in ACCase that encodes for amino acid position 2027, resulting in a tryptophan-to-cysteine (Trp2027Cys) substitution. We found the resistant population absorbed 11.4% less herbicide and retained 21% more herbicide on the treated leaf compared to the susceptible population. We developed a genotyping assay targeting the resistance-endowing Trp2027Cys substitution for quick resistance diagnosis.

CONCLUSION

A Trp2027Cys amino acid substitution in ACCase confers resistance to haloxyfop and pinoxaden in C. virgata. We provide important insights into the evolutionary history of C. virgata and a draft genome as a useful resource to further our understanding of the biology in the genus Chloris. © 2023 The Authors. Previous studies comparing cultivars of different maturity groups in different soils demonstrated that early maturity group cultivars were more sensitive to glyphosate injury than those of other maturity groups. In this work, we evaluated the effect of increasing rates of glyphosate on water absorption and photosynthetic parameters in early maturity group cultivar BRS 242 GR soybean. Plants were grown in a complete nutrient solution and subjected to a range of glyphosate rates either as a single or sequential leaf application. Net photosynthesis, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, sub-stomatal CO2, carboxylation efficiency, fluorescence, maximal fluorescence and chlorophyll content were monitored right before and at different stages after herbicide application; water absorption was measured daily. All photosynthetic parameters were affected by glyphosate. Total water absorbed and biomass production by plants were also decreased as glyphosate rates increased, with the affect being more intense with a single full rate than half the rate applied in two sequential applications. Water use efficiency (WUE) was significantly reduced with increasing rates of glyphosate.  相似文献

Laboratory tests were conducted to assess the insecticidal and residual effects of three diatomaceous earth (DE) formulations, Insecto, PyriSec and SilicoSec, against Tribolium confusum Jacquelin du Val on wheat and maize. Quantities of wheat and maize were treated with the above formulations at 500, 1000 and 1500 mg kg(-1) and stored at 25 degrees C and 55% relative humidity (RH). Samples were taken on the day of storage and every 30 days until completion of a 360 day period of storage. Adults of T. confusum were exposed to these samples at 25 degrees C and 55% RH and the mortality was measured after 24 and 48 h and 7 and 14 days of exposure. Adult mortality was higher on wheat than on maize. At the beginning of the storage period, mortalities after 14 day exposure on maize treated with the highest rate were 60, 63 and 81% for Insecto, PyriSec and SilicoSec respectively, while on wheat the mortality was 100% for all DEs. On the same commodities 360 days after treatment the respective mortality figures for wheat were 99, 98 and 100%, while in the case of maize they did not exceed 7%. Generally, mortality at exposures < or =48 h decreased with increasing storage time. Furthermore, although mortality on wheat increased with dose, the increase in DE dose from 1000 to 1500 mg kg(-1) resulted in only a small increase in mortality. Thus a DE treatment of 1000 mg kg(-1) was shown to provide long-term protection of wheat against T. confusum, although higher DE application rates and exposure intervals are needed for a satisfactory level of protection of maize against this pest.  相似文献

Fisheries management in the Mediterranean is planned on the basis of fishing effort allocation, gear technical characteristics and minimum landing sizes (MLSs), the latter being a measure recently updated in the EU Mediterranean fisheries policy. Very few elements on the evaluation of the MLS in regard to the catch and landings of the small-scale fisheries in the Mediterranean exist and this is due to both the great heterogeneity of the sector and the lack of systematic monitoring. The catch length composition of five species (Merluccius merluccius, Diplodus annularis, Mullus barbatus, Sepia officinalis and Squilla mantis) from a yearly record of small-scale fishing operations in the Patraikos Gulf (w. Greece, e. Mediterranean) was associated with temporal (season), spatial (depth of fishing, substrate type) and fishery (métier) characteristics by means of general linear models. Smaller individuals appeared in the catch in autumn for all five species indicating this season as suitable if a seasonal fishery closure was established. When length was found to be significantly different between different métiers this was either due to smaller mesh sizes (M. barbatus) or due to gear type (M. merluccius). For all species except S. officinalis, depth significantly affected length of individuals in the catch providing in the case of M. merluccius a clear association of bigger individuals with deeper fishing grounds. Substrate types also affected the length for the species D. annularis, M. barbatus. In relation to MLSs, the sizes of Mullus surmuletus and Scomber japonicus were fully legal, M. merluccius, M. barbatus, Solea vulgaris, Trachurus mediterraneus, Pagellus erythrinus had higher than 80% of the catch over MLS, while D. annularis, Diplodus sargus, Sparus aurata and Pagellus acarne had high fractions of the total catch below MLS. The métiers where undersized individuals appear were identified. Further management implications of the findings are discussed taking into account the current management scheme and the discarding practices in the area.  相似文献

Several studies have shown that healthy individuals with fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels at the high end of the normal range have an increased risk of mortality. To identify genetic determinants that contribute to interindividual variation in FPG, we tested 392,935 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 654 normoglycemic participants for association with FPG, and we replicated the most strongly associated SNP (rs560887, P = 4 x 10(-7)) in 9353 participants. SNP rs560887 maps to intron 3 of the G6PC2 gene, which encodes glucose-6-phosphatase catalytic subunit-related protein (also known as IGRP), a protein selectively expressed in pancreatic islets. This SNP was associated with FPG (linear regression coefficient beta = -0.06 millimoles per liter per A allele, combined P = 4 x 10(-23)) and with pancreatic beta cell function (Homa-B model, combined P = 3 x 10(-13)) in three populations; however, it was not associated with type 2 diabetes risk. We speculate that G6PC2 regulates FPG by modulating the set point for glucose-stimulated insulin secretion in pancreatic beta cells.  相似文献

Glyphosate-resistant (GR) soybeans have continuously increased; however, this expansion significantly increased the use of glyphosate and therefore, in some cases, has resulted in injury symptoms observed in GR soybean, known as “yellow flashing”. Previous reports of interference of glyphosate with nutrient availability and utilization by GR soybean may be linked to this injury symptom. Also, because glyphosate interferes with amino acid synthesis, supplementation with exogenous amino acids may help GR soybean recover from adverse effects of glyphosate. Therefore, an experiment was designed to evaluate different amino acid concentrations. Near-isogenic and GR soybean varieties were grown in the greenhouse in two soils with and without glyphosate at different rates and amino acids were foliarly applied with and without glyphosate. In general, the photosynthetic variables, nutrient contents, and shoot and root dry biomass parameters were affected by glyphosate, however, use of amino acid formulations suppressed harmful effects of glyphosate on these parameters.  相似文献

ELISA was adapted for the study of antigenic relations among important Campylobacters and for the presence of anti-campylo-bacter antibodies in 394 sheep and 265 cattle. Rabbit anti-C. jejuni, C. coli, G. fetus subsp. fetus and C. laridis heat-stable antigen sera were evaluated against 29 Campylobacter strains and 6 other bacteria. Anti-C. jejuni and G. coli reacted strongly with homologous antigens and weakly with C. fetus subsp. fetus, C. laridis and C. fecalis antigens. C. fetus subsp. fetus serum reacted mainly with its homologous antigen. C. laridis serum showed closer reactivity to C. jejuni than to C. fetus subsp. fetus, C. coli and C. fecalis. Insignificant cross-reactions were observed with Y. enterocolitica, S. dublin and E. aerogenes heat-stable antigens, Ewes vaccinated with C. fetus subsp. fetus bacterin showed higher ELISA titers against C. fetus subsp. fetus antigens than non-vaccinated ewes or rams. Twenty-five percent of the vaccinated animals showed titers as low as 95 % of the non-vaccinated animals. In cattle the lowest antibody titers against C. fetus subsp. fetus, C. jejuni, C. coli and C. laridis antigens were exhibited by the precolostrum sera followed by the postcolostrum and adult sera. These studies demonstrated the applicability of the ELISA test in seroepidemiological investigations concerning the distribution and significance of Campylobacter antibodies in food animal sera.  相似文献

More than 25% of Greek fish farms and 20% of Greek hatcheries of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) and sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) are located along the Western Hellenic coast. The part of sea bream production is about 60% of the total production of these species. During the last decade, a spectacular increase in both the number of farms and their production, accompanied by a substantial price decrease and modification of their structure and functioning, has been recorded. These changes resulted in the maintenance in cages of large individuals (more than 500 g) of gilthead sea bream which are potential spawners. The study, based on both the maturity stage and the decrease in individual mean weights during the reproductive period of the species, confirmed reproduction in cages. In parallel, during the last 5 years a remarkable increase (about 80%) in sea bream landings from the fish trap fisheries of the Messolonghi‐Etoliko lagoon, which is a typical nursery for the species, was recorded. The increase was accompanied by a decrease both in price and mean size of the 0‐group individuals. The possible influence of the rearing activities in the area, the density‐dependent mechanisms and the negative impacts of this unintentional enhancement of the traditional lagoon fisheries of the area are discussed.  相似文献

This study demonstrates how chemically interesterified hydrogenated palm oil (IHPO) and partially hydrogenated palm oil (PHPO) can be structured to have similar mechanical properties. Crystallization of IHPO at 30 degrees C for 24 h yielded a fat with a solid fat content (SFC) of 45% and a yield force of 51.5 N. On the other hand, PHPO had a SFC of 50% and a yield force of 44 N when crystallized under the same conditions. The result was opposite from what would be expected from the SFC point of view, thus suggesting that the microstructure of the fat plays a key role in determining mechanical properties. By matching crystallization behavior using the Avrami index as a guide, microstructures and material hardness were successfully matched. These results suggest that the dynamics of structure formation was a key factor influencing the macroscopic mechanical properties of palm oil-based fats.  相似文献
