Live prey used in aquaculture to feed marine larval fish – rotifer and Artemia nauplii – lack the necessary levels of n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA) which are considered essential for the development of fish larvae. Due to the high voracity, visual feeding in conditions of relatively high luminosity, and cannibalism observed in meagre larvae, a study of its nutritional requirements is needed. In this study, the effect of different enrichment products with different docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) concentrations used to enrich rotifers and Artemia metanauplii have been tested on growth, survival, and lipid composition of the larvae of meagre. The larvae fed live prey enriched with Algamac 3050 (AG) showed a significantly higher growth than the rest of the groups at the end of the larval rearing, while the larvae fed preys enriched with Multigain (MG) had a higher survival rate. DHA levels in larvae fed prey enriched with MG were significantly higher than in those fed AG‐enriched prey. High levels of DHA in Artemia metanauplii must be used to achieve optimal growth and survival of meagre larvae.  相似文献

This study evaluated the starch digestibility, physicochemical properties and cooking characteristics of polished rice (varieties IRGA417 and IAC202) subjected to the doses of 0 (as the control), 1, 2 and 5 kGy of gamma radiation. The highest dose decreased the apparent amylose content, peak viscosity, water absorption and volume expansion. Irradiation increased the solid loss by 119% and 187% for IAC202 and IRGA417, respectively, when comparing the higher dose with the control. For IAC202, irradiation decreased the rapidly digestible starch and increased the slowly digestible starch (SDS) and resistant starch (RS). IRGA417 showed an elevation of SDS and a reduction in RS. And 1 kGy dose of gamma radiation generated the highest level of RS for both the two varieties and presented the smallest changes in other physicochemical and cooking properties.  相似文献

The study of pheromones of click beetles was started with the objective of applying similar methods in IPM strategies for the control of wireworms, based on the similar experience gained from the widely used moth pheromones. A brief overview is presented on the identification of click beetle pheromones, new questions arising in the categorization of these pheromones into sex or aggregation pheromones, options for the development of female-targeted lures, and application perspectives.  相似文献

Eels (Anguilla spp.) are in decline worldwide, and the signs of reduced recruitment have been observed in continental Europe since the early 1970s. To aid recovery of the European eel, stocking is used by many European countries as a management option. In this study, tagging experiments were conducted to follow eel migration from Lake Mälaren and four sites along the Swedish east coast in the Baltic Sea. The recaptured tagged eels were retrieved from fishermen, allowing for the opportunity to investigate their origin (brackish water, stocked in freshwater or a mix in between) by otolith microchemistry and to assess for morphological differences after tagging. Several changes took place; for example, eye index increased while weight and condition decreased with migrated distance and time until recapture. In Lake Mälaren, the majority of tagged eels did not migrate out of the outlets, irrespective of their origin. Most of them were caught in the opposite direction and continued to be caught in the lake 1–3 years after tagging, with significant weight losses. Overall, overwintering is suggested to be an inferior option, but it is uncertain whether this is a natural behaviour or a result of translocation and restocking. For coastal eels, origin had no effect on migratory behaviour; a majority of the tagged eels migrated towards the outlet of the Baltic Sea. Interestingly, a minority of the recaptured eels originated from stocked fish. Instead, recaptures were dominated by natural immigrants that had spent most of their lives in brackish waters.  相似文献

Drought can drastically reduce cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.] biomass and grain yield. The application of plant growth‐promoting rhizobacteria and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi can confer resistance to plants and reduce the effects of environmental stresses, including drought. Seed coating is a technique which allows the application of minor amounts of microbial inocula. Main effects of the factors inoculation and water regime showed that: severe or moderate water deficit had a general negative impact on cowpea plants; total biomass production, seed weight and seed yield were enhanced in plants inoculated with P. putida; inoculation of R. irregularis significantly increased nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) shoot concentrations; and R. irregularis enhanced both chlorophyll b and carotenoids contents, particularly under severe water deficit. Plants inoculated with P. putida + R. irregularis had an increase in shoot P concentration of 85% and 57%, under moderate and severe water deficit, respectively. Singly inoculated P. putida improved potassium shoot concentration by 25% under moderate water deficit. Overall, in terms of agricultural productivity the inoculation of P. putida under water deficit might be promising. Seed coating has the potential to be used as a large‐scale delivery system of beneficial microbial inoculants.  相似文献

The effects of four pre-packaging UV-C illumination doses (1.6, 2.8, 4.8 and 7.2 kJ m?2) on quality changes of watermelon cubes stored up to 11 days at 5 °C were studied. Non-treated cubes were used as a control. Higher UV-C doses induced slightly higher CO2 production throughout the storage period, while no changes in C2H4 production were monitored. However, UV-C did not significantly affect the final gas partial pressures within modified atmosphere packages where levels of 3–6 kPa O2 and 13–17 kPa CO2 were reached for all treatments. UV-C decreased microbial counts just after illumination. After 11 days at 5 °C, mesophilic, psycrophilic and enterobacteria populations were significantly lower in UV-C treated watermelon. Slight changes in CIE colour parameters were observed. According to sensory quality attributes, control and low UV-C treated cubes (1.6 and 2.8 kJ m?2) can be stored for up to 11 days at 5 °C while the maximum shelf-life of moderate to high UV-C treated fruit was 8 days at 5 °C. Control cubes showed a 16% decrease in lycopene content after 11 days at 5 °C similar to that found for the high UV-C treatment. However low UV-C treated watermelon cubes preserved their initial lycopene content (2.8 kJ m?2) or it was slightly decreased (1.6 kJ m?2). UV-C radiation did not significantly affect the vitamin C content while catalase activity and total polyphenols content considerably declined throughout the storage period. However, total antioxidant capacity markedly increased, independently of UV-C doses. As a main conclusion, UV-C radiation can be considered a promising tool for keeping overall quality of fresh-cut watermelon.  相似文献

Abstract

Pea root rot disease caused by the pathogen Aphanomyces euteiches deserves increased attention, since peas are an important cash crop and also improve the N balance in temperate agriculture. However, due to pea root rot it is difficult to cultivate peas as frequently and successfully as desired. In the search for biological measures to overcome this problem, attention has been drawn to the use of Brassicaceae plants as cover crops between main crops, since these can be effective catch crops for nutrients and also exert allelopathic effects. Many species within the Brassicaceae contain glucosinolates (GSLs). Their hydrolysis products, the volatile isothiocyanates (ITCs), have been shown to suppress soil-borne plant pathogens such as A. euteiches. In addition, Brassicaceae biomass releases water-soluble toxic substances such as oxazolidine-2-thione and supplies nutrients and organic matter. Overall, this influences the soil microbial community and the final suppression of pathogens. Due to the unpredictability of the control effect of Brassicaceae biomass incorporation into soil on the pathogen, there is a need to define the mechanisms behind suppression in the field situation. This review focuses on how incorporation of Brassicaceae biomass suppresses A. euteiches under field conditions and the effect on the emerging pea. Different factors influencing the severity of field pea (Pisum sativum L.) root rot disease are also discussed. One conclusion is that suppression of pea root rot depends on the quality and quantity of incorporated Brassicaceae biomass.  相似文献

Continuous increase in glyphosate use in Sweden has caused concern about resistance development, not least in connection with the possible introduction of crops resistant to glyphosate. In Sweden, the main weed targeted by glyphosate is Elymus repens (L.) Gould. We sampled 69 clones of E. repens to assess the magnitude and geographical distribution of variation in susceptibility to glyphosate. Clones originated from four habitat types: intensively and extensively used arable lands, field vicinities and other habitats, including natural vegetation. Susceptibility varied greatly among clones with GR50 (50% of untreated growth reduction) spanning over at least one order of magnitude, 17–278 active ingredient ha?1 in a pot experiment setting. There was a strong covariance between geographic and genetic distance, but there was no evidence of geographic or genetic differentiation in GR50. Nor did GR50 vary consistently between habitat types. We conclude that no indication of past selection was found towards the resistance to glyphosate in E. repens clones in Sweden. The great variability in susceptibility suggests that there might be a potential for such selection.  相似文献

The area of short-rotation willow coppice energy plantations on Swedish farmland increased quickly in the early 1990s because of subsidies for energy crop production, an increased CO2 tax on fossil fuel and an already existing biofuel market in the country. In this study farm-related determinants for the adoption of short-rotation willow coppice production among Swedish farmers are identified and estimated. A Tobit model is applied to cross-sectional data on Swedish farmers in 1995. The results show that the decision to plant willow and the areas planted depend positively on arable land area, forest land area, the area of other land types, leasing out of arable land and tractor ownership. Negative factors are pasture area, tenancy and animal production. Differences in willow growing between ownership types, age groups and geographical regions are also important. The policy implications of the results are discussed.  相似文献
