Changes in the aroma of sake during aging were investigated by aroma extract dilution analysis (AEDA) and quantitative analysis using the stir bar sorptive extraction method. In AEDA, more odor zones were detected in aged sake than in fresh sake. The dilution factors of aldehydes, polysulfides, and some esters were greater in the aged sake, and their increase during aging was confirmed through a quantitative analysis of sake stored for 0-35 years. Among these compounds, 3-methylbutanal, methional, and dimethyltrisulfide (DMTS) were present in aged sake at concentrations exceeding their odor thresholds, and the highest odor active value was observed for DMTS. Sensory tests showed that supplementation with DMTS contributed to both the total odor intensity and the sulfury odor of aged sake aroma. 相似文献

Development of wheat cultivars that achieve high yields despite the short growing season is essential for increasing wheat production in southwestern Japan. The objectives of this study were to assess the genetic progress in grain yield and to clarify yield-attributing traits of high-yielding wheat lines in southwestern Japan. We conducted field experiments for two growing seasons (2012–2013 and 2013–2014) using three commercial wheat cultivars (Shiroganekomugi, Chikugoizumi, and Iwainodaichi) and four high-yielding wheat lines including Hakei W1380 developed in southwestern Japan. In an ancillary field experiment, we compared a commercial cultivar, Shiroganekomugi, and a high-yielding line, Hakei W1380, in the 2014–2015 season. Across the two seasons, grain yield of high-yielding lines was generally higher than commercial cultivars. Hakei W1380 achieved the highest grain yield across the two seasons, and successfully produced more than 900 g m?2 in the 2013–2014 season. Correlation analysis showed that recent yield progress of wheat lines in southwestern Japan was derived from enhanced biomass production and grain number m?2. Larger numbers of grains m?2 in high-yielding lines than in commercial cultivars were associated with higher crop growth rate at the pre-anthesis stage, and therefore higher spike dry weight m?2 at anthesis. Genotypic differences in crop growth rate from jointing to anthesis resulted mainly from differences in leaf area index. These results indicate that further improvements in grain yield in southwestern Japan could be achieved by increasing the amount of radiation intercepted at the pre-anthesis stage and grain number m?2. 相似文献

Wind erosion is a major contributor to desertification in the Sahel. Although three effective countermeasures for wind erosion (i.e. ridging, mulching with post-harvest crop residue, and windbreaks) have been proposed, they are not practical for Sahelian farmers. Therefore, we designed a new land management practice, termed the “Fallow Band System,” which can be used for both controlling wind erosion and improving soil fertility and crop production. This method does not impose additional expense and labor requirements on Sahelian farmers who are economically challenged and have limited manpower. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of this system on wind-erosion control and soil-fertility improvement. We conducted field experiments at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics West and Central Africa and showed that (i) a fallow band can capture 74% of wind-blown soil particles and 58% of wind-blown coarse organic matter, which suggests that it can effectively control wind erosion, (ii) the amount of soil nutrients available for crops in a former fallow band was increased by the decomposition of trapped soil materials containing considerable amounts of nutrients, and (iii) the amount of soil water available for crops in a former fallow band was increased by the trapped wind-blown soil materials through improvement of rainwater infiltration into surface soil. These results lead to the conclusion that the “Fallow Band System” can be useful for preventing desertification and improving soil fertility in the Sahel, West Africa. 相似文献

Abstract A solution culture study was conducted to determine the genotypic difference in the effects of cadmium (Cd) addition on growth and on the uptake and distribution of Cd and other 11 nutrients in wheat plants. Cadmium addition at a rate of 1 mg L?1 significantly reduced root and shoot dry matter production, shoot height, root length, chlorophyll content, and tillers per plant. On the average of 16 wheat genotypes used in study, Cd concentrations of Cd‐treated plants were 48.1 and 459 μg g?1 dry weight (DW) in shoots and roots, respectively, and retained 77.91% of total Cd taken up in the roots. On the whole, Cd addition reduced the concentration of sulfur (S), phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg), molybdenum (Mo), manganese (Mn), and boron (B), and increased iron (Fe), irrespective of the plant parts. The effect of Cd on the concentration of potassium (K), calcium (Ca), and copper (Cu) differed in shoots and roots. The significant difference existed among 16 wheat genotypes in their response to Cd in terms of growth and nutrient concentrations. Genotype E81513, which showed relatively less inhibition in growth, had the lowest shoot Cd concentration and more Cd accumulation in roots, while Ailuyuang had the highest Cd concentration and accumulation in shoot with lower Cd concentration in root. The significant interaction was found between Cd treatment and genotype for all nutrient concentrations in both shoot and root, except S and Zn in root. 相似文献

The common marmoset (Callithrix
jacchus) is now widely used in various
research fields, including toxicology. However,
information about the background pathology of this
species is scarce. Here, we report a case of
rhabdomyosarcoma that spontaneously occurred in a
common marmoset. A 44-month-old male common
marmoset was euthanized due to bilateral hind limb
paralysis. At necropsy, a 2×2×5-cm intramuscular
mass was observed in the lower right back.
Histologically, the mass was mainly composed of
interlacing bundles of spindle-shaped tumor cells.
Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were
positive for myogenin, desmin, vimentin and
alpha-smooth muscle actin. Ultrastructurally, the
tumor cells contained bundles of myofilaments with
Z-band-like structures. Thus, the tumor was
diagnosed as a rhabdomyosarcoma. To our knowledge,
this is the first report of spontaneous
rhabdomyosarcoma that was definitely diagnosed in

Abstract: To determine effects of developmental exposure to brominated flame
retardants (BFRs), weak thyroid hormone disruptors, on white matter development, white
matter-specific global gene expression analysis was performed using microdissection
techniques and microarrays in male rats exposed maternally to decabromodiphenyl ether
(DBDE), one of the representative BFRs, at 10, 100 or 1000 ppm. Based on previous gene
expression profiles of developmental hypothyroidism and DBDE-exposed cases,
vimentin+ immature astrocytes and ret proto-oncogene (Ret)+
oligodendrocytes were immunohistochemically examined after developmental exposure to
representative BFRs, i.e., DBDE, 1,2,5,6,9,10-hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD; 100, 1000 or
10,000 ppm) and tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA; 100, 1000 or 10,000 ppm).
Vimentin+ and Ret+ cell populations increased at ≥ 100 ppm and ≥
10 ppm DBDE, respectively. Vimentin+ and Ret+ cells increased at ≥
1000 ppm HBCD, with no effect of TBBPA. The highest dose of DBDE and HBCD revealed subtle
fluctuations in serum thyroid-related hormone concentrations. Thus, DBDE and HBCD may
exert direct effects on glial cell development at ≥ middle doses. At high doses,
hypothyroidism may additionally be an inducing mechanism, although its contribution is

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grain yield is predicted to decrease in the future because of an increase in air temperature globally. To clarify the effects of the vernalization response gene in wheat to warmer winters, we compared dry matter production and grain yield between spring wheat ‘Asakazekomugi’ and its winter-type near-isogenic line (NIL) carrying different alleles of the vernalization response gene Vrn-D1 under early-, standard-, and late-sowing conditions. Under early-sowing conditions, dry matter production of the NIL carrying the winter allele of Vrn-D1, named Asa (Vrn-D1b), exceeded that of ‘Asakazekomugi’ from mid-March (after stem elongation in Asa (Vrn-D1b)) when the temperatures rose. Tiller number and leaf area index under early-sowing conditions were consistently higher in Asa (Vrn-D1b) than in ‘Asakazekomugi’ from mid-March onward. It was suggested that the early-sown ‘Asakazekomugi’ could not effectively absorb solar radiation to produce dry matter because of the acceleration of stem elongation caused by the Vrn-D1 gene during the cold season. The grain yield of Asa (Vrn-D1b) with early sowing was higher than with standard sowing. In contrast, the grain yield of ‘Asakazekomugi’ was lower in the early-sown crop than in the crop sown at the standard date. These results suggested that the higher grain yield of Asa (Vrn-D1b) than that of ‘Asakazekomugi’ under early-sown conditions could be due to Asa (Vrn-D1b) maintaining high dry matter production after the jointing stage by suppressing acceleration of growth caused by warm conditions after sowing. 相似文献

Isolation and characterization of a phenolic antioxidant from the Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas)

Using an oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay, antioxidant activity was detected in the ethanol extract of the Pacific oyster, which was purified by sequential extraction with organic solvents. The ethyl acetate fraction showed the strongest antioxidant activity and was further purified, yielding a single compound [as assessed by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)]. This compound was identified as 3,5-dihydroxy-4-methoxybenzyl alcohol on the basis of (1)H and (13)C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), heteronuclear multiple-bond correlation (HMBC), and electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) spectral analyses, a conclusion that was confirmed by chemical synthesis. The concentration of the compound was 6.7 mg/100 g of whole oyster meat wet weight. This amphiphilic antioxidant retarded the copper-mediated oxidation of low-density lipoproteins (LDLs) and the generation of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances. Furthermore, the compound showed substantial antioxidant activity using the ORAC and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assays compared to natural antioxidants. Although the same compound was previously found in brown algae, its presence in other organisms and antioxidant activity are reported here for the first time. 相似文献
