Selectively working cation exchangers (® Lewatit OC 1029, OC 1030 and OC 1034, Bayer AG, Leverkusen) are very effective for the immobilization of ions of heavy metals (Zn2+, Cu2+, Pb2+). Applied at the calculated doses in a soil and/or substrate contaminated with ions of heavy metals, these cation exchangers withdraw the contaminants from the existing equilibrium system, which results in a neutralization of the fraction of the undesired phytotoxic identities. This method not only offers many possibilities in common peat and leaf mould soils, but gives a guarantee for plant-production in contaminated autochthonous areas and heterochthonous substrates. Ornamental plants and nursery trees developed well, especially in a terminated emission atmosphere, even in very strongly contaminated soils.  相似文献

ANIMAL STUDIED: A tumor of the left eye with involvement of the brain and kidney was diagnosed in a 4-year-old Neapolitan mastiff. PROCEDURE: The dog presented with acute glaucoma of the left eye. Peripheral corneal vascularization and severe corneal edema obscured examination of deeper structures. Because of concurrent progressive neurologic signs the dog was euthanized and a postmortem examination was performed. The eyes, brain and samples from the lung, heart, liver and kidneys were fixed in 4% neutral buffered formalin and embedded in paraffin wax. Sections were examined by light microscopy including histochemical and immunohistochemical staining. RESULTS: The ocular tumor originated from the ciliary body and was composed of small islets and cords of poorly differentiated, oval to polyhedral cells surrounded by abundant ground substance. Areas with chondroid differentiation were observed. Rosettes were not found. Metastases with the same morphology were present in the brain and in one kidney. CONCLUSION: An intraocular malignant teratoid medulloepithelioma with metastases to the brain and kidney is presented.  相似文献

Ten isolates of Trypanosoma evansi from the Pantanal region of Brazil, recently derived from coati (Nasua nasua, carnivora, Procyonidae), horses and dogs, were characterized on the basis of biological (experimental infections in Wistar rats) and biochemical (multilocus enzyme eletrophoresis) data. Biological data were analyzed by Nested analysis of variance and Kruskal-Wallis. Marked heterogeneity in virulence was observed in the isolates. Some of the isolates showed an undulating parasitaemia, typical for African trypanosomes. This biological heterogeneity did not correspond with the biochemical homogeneity observed in the T. evansi isolates. T. evansi has one of the widest distributions and greatest range of mammalian hosts and is widely recognized to have evolved from Trypanosoma brucei. Adaptability of T. evansi was not reflected in the variability of biochemical and molecular parameters studied to date. The variability in virulence was very significant, but not correlated with the host from which it was derived. These data suggested that, in the region studied, T. evansi is transmitted among both domestic and sylvatic animals in one single transmission cycle.  相似文献

Bio-nanotechnology employing bio-sourced nanomaterial is an emerging avenue serving the field of fish medicine. Marine-sourced chitosan nanoparticles (CSNPs) is a well-known antimicrobial and immunomodulatory reagent with low or no harm side effects on fish or their human consumers. In this study, in vitro skin mucus and serum antibacterial activity assays along with intestinal histology, histochemical, and gene expression analyses were performed to evaluate the impact of dietary CSNPs (5 g kg−1 dry feed) on rainbow trout resistance against ‘enteric redmouth’ disease. Two treatment conditions were included; short-term prophylactic-regimen for 21 days before the bacterial challenge, and long-term therapeutic-regimen for 21 days before the challenge and extended for 28 days after the challenge. Our results revealed higher antibacterial defense ability and positive intestinal histochemical and molecular traits of rainbow trout after dietary CSNPs. The prophylactic-regimen improved trout health while the therapeutic regimen improved their disease resistance and lowered their morbidity. Therefore, it is anticipated that CSNPs is an effective antibacterial and immunomodulatory fish feed supplement against the infectious threats. However, the CSNPs seem to be more effective in the therapeutic application rather than being used for short-term prophylactic applications.  相似文献

Two groups of extant plants, lycopsids and psilopsids, alternatively have been suggested to be the living representatives of the earliest diverging lineage in vascular plant evolution. The chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) gene order is known to contain an inversion in bryophytes and tracheophytes relative to one another. Characterization of tracheophyte cpDNAs shows that lycopsids share the gene order with bryophytes, whereas all other vascular plants share the inverted gene order. The distribution of this character provides strong support for the fundamental nature of the phylogenetic separation of lycopsids and marks the ancient evolutionary split in early vascular land plants.  相似文献

Abstract

A laboratory experiment was carried out to evaluate the impact of the nanoparticles of water treatment residuals (nWTRs) and salt stress on germination and growth parameters of cucumber seedling. The interaction between three nWTRs treatments (0, 500, and 1000 mgL?1) nWTRs and five saline solution (fresh water: sea water) treatments had 0.70, 2, 3, 6, and 11?dSm?1 were studied. The results revealed that increasing salinity levels significantly reduced the percentage of germination (GP) for the primed seeds treated in fresh water and nWTRs. The GP reduction was higher in seeds primed in fresh water compared to which primed in nWTRs. Salt stress negatively affected radicle length of cucumber seedling for both priming treatments. However, this impact was more pronounced for the primed seeds treated in fresh water than which treated in nWTRs at high salinity stress. Priming in nWTRs significantly decreased the root radius of cucumber seedlings, and the1000 mgL?1 priming treatment obtained a lowest value of radicle radius. Increasing salt concentration in culture medium reduced total biomass of cucumber seedling, however for the primed seeds treated in nWTRs, the total biomass was increased in comparison with which treated in fresh water. Salt tolerance and vigor indices were significantly (p?<?0.01) affected by salinity levels, nWTRs treatments and their interaction. It can be concluded that nWTRs are ameliorating materials for plant growth under salt stress conditions.  相似文献
