The present study was conducted to assess the effect of spraying of pesticides on the content of minerals in cabbage harvested at varying waiting periods (0, 7, 14 and 21 days) after spraying. The amounts of phosphorus and zinc in cabbage were significantly (p < 0.05) decreased while those of iron, calcium and potassium were significantly (p < 0.05) increased by the sprayings of pesticides. At varying waiting periods after the spraying of pesticides calcium, phosphorus, zinc and potassium contents of cabbage were found to be decreased remarkably (p < 0.05) while the content of iron was increased significantly (p < 0.05). Between the two pesticides, the spraying of endosulfan exerted a more pronounced effect in altering the contents of minerals than the spraying of malathion.  相似文献

The annual growth cycles of terrestrial ecosystems are related to long-term regional/global climatic patterns. Understanding vegetation phenology and its spatio-temporal variation is required to reveal and predict ongoing changes in Earth system dynamics. The study attempts to characterize the phenology of the major tropical vegetation types in India, since such information is not yet available for India. Multi-temporal Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index (MTCI) data were utilized to derive onset of greenness (OG) and end of senescence (ES) for four major tropical vegetation types. The study found that Fourier-smoothed results using the first four components revealed adequately the annual phenological variation of the natural vegetation types in India. From these smoothed data, inflection points were located iteratively through a spatio-temporal search, spanning over 18 months of 8-day composite data, per pixel such as to derive the OG and ES. The median OG and ES was extracted from the available annual results for the years 2003–04, 2004–05, 2005–06 and 2006–07. The GLC2000 land cover map (1 km spatial resolution) was utilized to determine the locations of the major vegetation types. The percentage of each vegetation type falling beneath a MTCI composite pixel (4.6 km spatial resolution) was calculated. MTCI composite pixels with homogeneity of ≥80% vegetative cover were used for examining pattern of phenology in different regions, different years and at different latitudes. The most common dates for the occurrence of OG for the tropical evergreen, semi-evergreen, moist-deciduous, and dry-deciduous vegetation types were found to be during February–April, January–April, March–May, and February–May, respectively. Similarly, for ES the most common dates were in February–April, January–April, February–April, and December–April, respectively. The phenological pattern was uniquely different for each vegetation type, as expected, and also differed with regions and latitudes. A general trend of early occurrence of OG in the lower latitudes was observed.  相似文献

Peanut plays a key role to the livelihood of millions in the world especially in Arid and Semi-Arid regions. Peanut with high oleic acid content aids to increase shelf-life of peanut oil as well as food products and extends major health benefits to the consumers. In peanut, ahFAD2 gene controls quantity of two major fatty acids viz, oleic and linoleic acids. These two fatty acids together with palmitic acid constitute 90% fat composition in peanut and regulate the quality of peanut oil. Here, two ahfad2 alleles from SunOleic 95R were introgressed into ICGV 05141 using marker-assisted selection. Marker-assisted breeding effectively increased oleic acid and oleic to linoleic acid ratio in recombinant lines up to 44% and 30%, respectively as compared to ICGV 05141. In addition to improved oil quality, the recombinant lines also had superiority in pod yield together with desired pod/seed attributes. Realizing the health benefits and ever increasing demand in domestic and international market, the high oleic peanut recombinant lines will certainly boost the economical benefits to the Indian farmers in addition to ensuring availability of high oleic peanuts to the traders and industry.  相似文献

Eight 6–9 month old calves, showing clinical signs of intermittent haemoglobinuria, even after treatment with an antipiroplasmal drug (4,4-diamidinodiazoaminobenzene diaceturate), were examined for oxidative damage to their erythrocytes and the presence of hemoprotozoa in blood smears. Four calves without signs of haemoglobinuria served as controls. The blood smears from three of the eight calves contained piroplasms for Theileria annulata. Irrespective of the presence of piroplasms in their blood smears, the calves with haemoglobinuria had significantly (p<0.01) lower haemoglobin concentrations (Hb) and packed cell volumes (PCV). The lipid peroxide level in the erythrocytes, but not in the plasma, of calves with red urine was significantly (p<0.05) higher than that for the controls. It is concluded that haemoglobinuria, irrespective of the presence of piroplasms in blood smears, is associated with oxidative stress to erythrocytes and peroxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids of cell membrane.  相似文献

The effect of 5 insect growth regulators (IGRs): 3 juvenile hormone analogues (JHAs), fenoxycarb, CGA 29-170 and Pro-Drone and two moult inhibiting compunds, Dawco 439 and R-20458 in addition to the organophosphate isoxathion was evaluated on the Florida wax scale. Treatment with 100 ppm induced good reduction in the population when the compounds were applied to the first generation. The effect extended to the following generation up to 8 months posttreatment and the juvenile hormone analogues showed superior effect over the moult inhibiting compounds and also the organophosphate. The influence of the IGRs on the oviposition was clearly obvious with both the JHA, fenoxycarb and the IGR, Dawco 439 since they completly prevented the scale maturity and oviposition.  相似文献

Exploration of novel genetic resources against root-knot nematode (RKN) is necessary to strengthen the resistance breeding program in cultivated rice, and investigations on the role of genotype-specific root anatomy in conferring a structural barrier against nematode invasion are largely underexplored. Here, we reported a highly-resistant rice germplasm Phule Radha that conferred remarkably lower RKN parasitic fitness in terms of reduced penetration and delayed development and reproduction when compared with susceptible cultivar PB1121. Using histological and biochemical analyses, we demonstrated that an enhanced suberin deposition in the exodermal root tip tissue of Phule Radha compared to PB1121 can effectively form a penetrative barrier against RKN infection, and this preformed barrier in the control tissue did not necessarily alter to a greater extent when challenged with RKN stress. Using qRT-PCR analysis, we showed that a number of suberin biosynthesis genes were greatly expressed in the exodermis of Phule Radha compared to PB1121. In sum, the present study established the role of rice exodermal barrier system in defense against an important soil-borne pathogen.  相似文献
