The low-temperature relaxation dynamics of supercooled liquids are a long-standing theoretical problem of considerable interest. The vast amount of experimental data on such liquids indicates that viscosity and diffusion in supercooled liquids are non-Arrhenius over a wide range of temperatures. The non-Arrhenius temperature dependence of the relaxation time of the slow modes in glass-forming liquids is investigated in connection with the topology of the potential energy landscape in configuration space. CH4 production in an alluvial soil, unamended or amended with rice straw (1% w/w), was examined under nonflooded [–1.5 MPa, –0.01
MPa and 0 MPa (saturated) and flooded (1 : 1.25 soil to water ratio)] conditions during a 40-day incubation in closed Vacutainer
tubes. CH4 production was negligible at –1.5 MPa, but increased with an increase in the moisture level. Addition of rice straw distinctly
increased CH4 production in the soil at all moisture levels including –1.5 MPa. Evidence, in terms of the drop in redox potential and Fe2+ accumulated, suggested that the addition of rice straw hastened the reduction of the soil, even under nonflooded conditions;
thus its addition stimulated even the nonflooded soil to produce CH4 in substantial amounts. Our results indicate that many currently unidentified sources of CH4, possibly including organic-amended nonflooded soils, may make a significant contribution to the global CH4 budget.

The Genus Edwardsiella comprises of bacteria differing strongly in their biochemical characteristics, physiological features, natural habitat and pathogenic properties. The most common species of the genus is Edwardsiella tarda, recovered from a variety of environmental and animal sources. In this study 51 isolates including one reference strain obtained from freshwater culture systems were analyzed for their genomic diversity by BOX-PCR and PCR-ribotyping. By comparison of fingerprint of different isolates 27 and 32 genotypes were obtained by PCR-ribotyping and BOX-PCR respectively. Cluster analysis of genetic profile obtained by BOX-PCR and ribotyping clearly showed 9 and 8 clusters respectively. Some correlation between BOX-PCR and ribotyping was observed. Several clusters delineated on the basis of source of isolation in the dendrogram by BOX-PCR with 70% cut off value had corresponding clusters in the ribotyping with 50% cut off value. Some of the genotypes were found to be habitat specific. However, there was mixing and dispersal of most of the genotypes obtained from water, sediment and fish samples. Phenotypic and genetic parameters were estimated for three body traits (harvest weight, carapace length and standard length) and for adult male morphotypes of the giant freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii in a fully pedigreed synthetic population in India. The data set included 9,173 progeny produced over four generations from 162 sires and 234 dams. Variance components and genetic parameters were estimated fitting an animal model using the residual maximum‐likelihood methodology. The heritabilities for harvest body weight (HW), carapace length (CL) and standard length (SL) were moderate (0.22 ± 0.056, 0.22 ± 0.055 and 0.25 ± 0.059 respectively). The common environmental effects for HW, CL and SL were 0.10 ± 0.020, 0.08 ± 0.018 and 0.10 ± 0.021 respectively. As M. rosenbergii is sexually dimorphic, we estimated heritabilities within each sex. Heritability of HW in females (0.27 ± 0.068) was greater than that in males (0.15 ± 0.057). CL and SL followed the same pattern. The occurrence of male morphotypes is a unique characteristic of adult populations of M. rosenbergii. Populations from culture ponds exhibit a wide range of sizes. To examine whether there was a heritable component in male morphotype frequencies, we treated male morphotypes as traits. The additive genetic variance (and hence the heritability) was zero for male morphotype, indicating that selective breeding to increase the proportion of desirable male morphotypes would not be effective. The genetic correlations among body traits were all positive, high and approaching unity. The results are discussed in relation to selection plans for the giant freshwater prawn. 相似文献

Five iso-nitrogenous (300 g crude protein kg−1 diet) semi-purified diets with graded levels of carbohydrate at 220 (D-1), 260 (D-2), 300 (D-3), 340 (D-4) and 380 (D-5) g kg−1 diet were fed ad libitum to Puntius gonionotus fingerlings (average weight 0.59±0.01 g) in triplicate groups (20 fish replicate−1 ) for a period of 90 days to determine the effect of the dietary carbohydrate level on the growth, nutrient utilization, digestibility, gut enzyme activity and whole-body composition of fish. Fifteen flow-through cement tanks of 100 L capacity with a flow rate of 0.5 L min−1 were used for rearing the fish. The maximum weight gain, specific growth rate, protein efficiency ratio, RNA:DNA ratio, whole-body protein content, protease activity, protein and energy digestibility and minimum feed conversion ratio (FCR) were found in the D-2 group fed with 260 g carbohydrate kg−1 diet. The highest protein and energy retention was also recorded in the same group. However, from the second-order polynomial regression analysis, the maximum growth and nutrient utilization of P. gonionotus fingerlings was 291.3–298.3 g carbohydrate kg−1 diet at a dietary protein level of 300 g kg−1 with a protein/energy (P/E) ratio of 20.58 −20.75 g protein MJ−1 . 相似文献

Canine venereal tumor cells were grown in monolayer and tumor tissue fragments were maintained in vitro for 56 days in medium-199. Attachment and cell replication were evident within 17 hours and monolayer was obtained by the tenth day. Growth at first comprised mainly round cells with abundance of cytoplasm and vesicular nuclei, and a few spindle-shaped cells. Later cells became more elongated and like fibroblasts. Cell degeneration started by the 17th day and most were degenerated by the 24th day. Necrosis and depletion of cell population were prominent in tumor explants during the first 2 weeks. Distinct cell multiplication was evident by the 21st day and tumor fragments were repopulated with cells resembling the original tumor by the 56th day. Two distinct morphological cell types were seen: small cells with vesicular, round to oval nuclei and acidophilic cytoplasm; and the large cells with large hyperchromatic nuclei and acidophilic cytoplasm. 相似文献
