Gynoecious is an important economic trait of cucumber for determinant of earliness and yield, yet genetic mechanism is not well understood for this trait. The experiment was conducted using F2 mapping population by crossing of PPC-2, a gynoecious and parthenocarpic line with Pusa Uday (monoecious and non-parthenocarpic cultivar). Out of 179 SSR markers screened, 39 markers differentiated the gynoecious and monoecious parents. However, only 17 markers were segregating with F2 mapping population, those were used for genotyping and linkage map analysis and these markers were placed along with F locus on chromosome 6 covering a total distance of 100.4cM. The SSR markers, SSR13251 and UW020605 were found to be closely linked to gynoecious (F) locus at 1.0 and 4.5 cM, respectively. The segregation of F2 population of PPC-2 × Pusa Uday and GPC-1 × Punjab Naveen and test crosses for sex type herein suggested that single dominant gene controlled the gynoecious sex expression in cucumber particularly in gynoecious genotypes PPC-2 and GPC-1. Therefore, the monogenic dominant nature of gynoecious sex identified in the present experiment and SSR markers closely linked to the F locus will be useful in marker-assisted backcross breeding for transfering gynoecious trait into horticulturally desirable varieties.  相似文献

The interactive effects of moisture and organic amendments (farmyard manure (FYM), crop residue (CR) and green manure (GM) (Sesbania aculeata) on gaseous carbon (C) emission, soil labile C fractions, enzymatic activities and microbial diversity in tropical, flooded rice soil were investigated. The amendments were applied on equal C basis in two moisture regimes, that is, aerobic and submergence conditions. The CO2 production was significantly higher by 22% in aerobic than in submergence condition; on the contrary, the CH4 production was 27% higher under submergence condition. The labile C fractions were significantly higher in GM by 26% under aerobic and 30% under submergence conditions, respectively, than control (without any kind of fertilizer or amendments). Eubacterial diversity identified by PCR-DGGE method (polymerase chain reaction coupled with denaturant gradient gel electrophoresis) was higher under GM followed by FYM, CR, and control and it is pronounced in submerged condition. GM favored the labile C accumulation and biological activities under both submergence and aerobic conditions, which makes it most active for soil–plant interactions compared to other organic amendments. Considering environmental sustainability, the use of GM is the better adoptable option, which could enhance labile C pools, microbial diversities in soil and keep soil biologically more active.  相似文献

Whole and intact wheat grains or those broken into 2 or 8 equal pieces and supplemented with yeast provided as adult food to individuals ofTribolium castaneum considerably reduced the egg output in these beetles although their larvae were reared on finely powdered yeast-supplemented whole wheat flour. Summary The development and localization of phenolic compounds in sapwood and heartwood of Abies alba Mill. have been studied using cytological and UV-microspectrophotometric methods. The synthesis of phenolic substances was apparently initiated in vesicles developing from rough ER of the ray parenchyma cells in sapwood. They are different from the phenolic material in the pit membrane and cell wall of heartwood. A study using two high-performance broiler lines, a synthetic male line (SML) and a synthetic dam line (SDL), was undertaken to investigate the pattern of mortality due to induced liver tumours (LT) and the immune response to subgroup A virus inoculated via the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) route. The distribution patterns of the four possible phenotypes were similar in both sire and dam lines. The occurrence of conversely associated phenotypes was about 30% in both the lines. The percentages of CAM(+) LT(–) and CAM(–) LT(+) were 14.26% and 14.46% in the dam line and 20.0% and 9.57% in the male line. The LT mortality was 30–50% in the birds with low pock counts, whereas it was 80–93% in the birds with high pock counts. The group specific antigen shedding status did not influence death due to LT. In birds in the high pock count group, 98% of deaths due to LT were completed by the sixth week, whereas in those in the low pock count group, death due to LT was spread over 24 weeks. The SDL birds survived better than SML birds in the high pock count groups. In both lines, about 20% of deaths occurred owing to non-specific causes. The average survival time after hatching before death from LT was 26 days, whereas that for non-specific death was 81 days.  相似文献

1. Two control populations of quail of different origin were maintained by cyclical mating, one for 4 and the other for 6 generations. Means, heritabilities, genetic and phenotypic correlations of body weights at 1, 14 and 35 d and rates of gain from 1 to 14 d and from 14 to 35 d did not show any trend of change with generation.

1. The effects of hatch date, location and sex on the body weight and rate of gain in Coturnix coturnix japonica were examined.

2. The data conformed to a mixed model and adjustments were made for the fixed effects sex, hatch date and location. Adjustment improved the precision of the estimates by reducing the error variances significantly.

3. Rearing equal numbers of birds from each family at different locations made the interactions negligible.

4. Weight gain was greater if illumination intensity up to 35 d was less.

5. Females were not heavier on the 1st day but were heavier on the 14th and 35th days than males.

The present communication is a continuation of our earlier study on the natural serum haemagglutinin/lectins of Cirrhina mrigala, Clarias batrachus and Heteropneustes fossilis. Sera of Cirrhina mrigala, belonging to the major carp family, could not only agglutinate heterologous rabbit erythrocytes, but also lyse them spontaneously. This lysis of rabbit RBC by Cirrhina mrigala sera was calcium ion dependent and heat sensitive, indicating thereby that the haemolysis was mediated by the fish serum complement system via the classical pathway. Quantification of CH50 and APCH50 levels in the sera of Clarias batrachus and Heteropneustes fossilis as well as in the sera of amphibia, aves and mammals showed that lower vertebrates predominantly possessed an alternative pathway of the complement system, while on the other hand, in the higher vertebrates the major pathway of complement activation was classical. Furthermore sera of Clarias batrachus and Heteropneustes fossilis had opsonins, which could stimulate heterologous rat peritoneal macrophages to engulf Staphylococcus aureus with the production of superoxide anion. From this study we concluded that fishes have been armed with various powerful natural humoral defense systems for their protection against environmental pathogens.  相似文献
