We studied 34 chondrosarcomas and 17 osteosarcomas among 285 sinonasal neoplasms in the dog. Mesenchymal chondrosarcomas (24) were more common than ordinary chondrosarcomas. Ultrastructural studies done in one case confirmed mesenchymal chondrosarcoma. Of the osteosarcomas, fibroblastic osteosarcoma (7) was the most common. In contrast to non-sinonasal skeletal neoplasms which are composed mostly (80%) of osteosarcomas, chondrosarcomas (66%) and mesenchymal chondrosarcomas (47%) were predominant among the sinonasal skeletal neoplasms of this study. The average age (ten years) of the dogs with sinonasal osteosarcoma was higher than that of dogs with non-sinonasal skeletal osteosarcoma, and there was a distinct male predominance in the dogs with osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma. Large breed dogs and boxers, frequently affected with skeletal neoplasms, were not affected commonly with sinonasal osteosarcoma. The frequency of metastasis in the dogs with chondrosarcoma and osteosarcoma was much lower than that seen in dogs with nonsinonasal skeletal neoplasms. 相似文献

Extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma (paraganglioma) arising from periadrenal tissue was diagnosed in an 18-year-old spayed domestic shorthair cat. The tumor was palpable on physical examination, but not apparent on plain radiographs. The cat developed temporary cardiac arrhythmia while the mass was being handled during excision, suggesting that the tumor was functional. The tumor was characterized histologically by nests and sheets of neoplastic cells separated by thin, vascular stroma. The cells had abundant eosinophilic granular cytoplasm and prominent nuclei. Diffuse, dark, intracytoplasmic granules were seen in sections stained with Grimelius stain. Ultrastructurally, the cells contained round and oblong, membrane-limited, dense core neurosecretory-type granules. Serotonin was detected in the cytoplasm of the neoplastic cells by use of immunocytochemical analysis. 相似文献

Osteosarcoma was diagnosed in 22 cats. Diagnosis was based on results of physical, radiographic, and histologic findings. Fifteen tumors arose from the appendicular skeleton, 4 from the skull, 2 from the pelvis, and 1 from a rib. Radiography revealed that in 14 of 15 cats (93%) with appendicular tumors, the lesion was metaphyseal, primarily lytic, with a "moth-eaten" appearance; absence and presence of periosteal new bone formation were associated with the tumors in 12 and 3 cats, respectively. The remaining 7 cats had axial tumors that were characterized by the presence of periosteal new bone formation in addition to bony lysis. Of the 15 cats with appendicular tumors, 12 were treated by amputation and 3 were euthanatized at the time of diagnosis. Of the cats undergoing amputation for treatment of their appendicular tumors, 6 cats were still alive 64 months after surgery (range, 13 to 64 months); the median survival time of the 5 cats (1 cat was lost to follow-up evaluation) that died was 49.2 months (range, 1 to 122 months). Four of 12 cats (33%) survived greater than or equal to 5 years after diagnosis. Of the cats with axial tumors that were not euthanatized at the time of diagnosis (6 of 7), the median survival time was 5.5 months. Based on these findings, we concluded that cats with appendicular osteosarcoma have a better prognosis than those with axial osteosarcoma, and that amputation is a viable treatment for cats with appendicular osteosarcoma. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate completeness of excision and clinical outcome in dogs with cutaneous mast cell tumors (MCTs) excised with a lateral margin of 2 cm and a deep margin of 1 fascial plane. DESIGN: Prospective study. ANIMALS: 16 client-owned dogs with 1 or more cutaneous MCTs. PROCEDURE: Excision of MCTs was performed with a 2-cm lateral margin and a deep margin of 1 fascial plane. Histologic tumor grading was performed; surgical margins were categorized as complete or incomplete. Follow-up information was obtained via repeat examination of the dogs by veterinarians or client-completed questionnaires. RESULTS: 4 grade I and 19 grade II cutaneous MCTs were evaluated. Overall, 21 (91%) MCTs were completely excised; 2 grade II tumors had foci of mast cells at the 2-cm margin. Two dogs received adjunctive treatments following surgery. Follow-up information was available for all dogs (median follow-up period, 379 days; range, 51 to 538 days); no local recurrence was detected during this time. De novo MCTs were detected in 3 of 16 dogs at 37, 54, and 154 days after surgery. Via Kaplan-Meier analysis, median survival time and disease-free interval were both > 538 days (medians not yet reached). No prognostic variables were identified. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Excision with a 2-cm lateral margin and a deep margin of 1 fascial plane may result in satisfactory excision of grades I and II MCTs in dogs, with recurrence rates similar to those reported previously. Use of these margins may minimize complications associated with larger local tumor resection. 相似文献

The medical records of 32 cats with small intestinal adenocarcinoma were reviewed. Common clinical signs included vomiting, dehydration, weight loss, cachexia, anorexia, and lethargy. In 50% of the cats, an abdominal mass was palpated, and in 38%, a mass was seen on radiographs. Biopsy of the tumor without resection was performed in 9 cats; 8 cats were euthanatized at the time of surgery, 7 because of metastases, and 1 cat died 1 day after surgery. In 23 cats, resection was performed. Eleven of these died within 2 weeks after surgery (mean survival time, 2.6 days); 8 had lymph node metastasis. Twelve cats survived greater than 2 weeks after surgery. The mean survival of 11 of these cats was 15 months. Six cats were euthanatized because of recurrent signs; 5 of the 6 had a recurrent abdominal mass. One cat was alive 2 years after surgery. Results of this study indicated that cats with adenocarcinoma, even those cats with advanced disease, can have long-term survival after surgery. 相似文献

In a study of 110 primary hepatic neoplasms in dogs, 55 hepatocellular carcinomas and two combined hepatocellular and cholangiocarcinomas were diagnosed. These neoplasms were classified into the following 11 groups based on histo-architectural pattern: trabecular, peliod, cobblestone, peritheliomatous, anaplastic, pseudoglandular, pleomorphic, scirrhous, clear cell, solid, and combined hepatocellular and cholangiocarcinoma. The neoplastic hepatocytes varied from almost normal to highly anaplastic spindle cells. Pleomorphic and giant cells were common in some groups, rare or absent in others. Metastasis was found in 61% (35 of 57), in contrast to a much higher percent in man, indicating the possibility of a different pathogenesis in the dog. 相似文献

Hemangiosarcoma was diagnosed in 31 cats. Diagnosis was confirmed by surgical biopsy. Locations of the primary tumors were the abdominal cavity (15 cats), sc tissue (13 cats), thoracic cavity (2 cats), and nasal cavity (1 cat). Nine (60%) of the 15 cats with abdominal hemangiosarcoma had extrathoracic evidence of metastasis: this was not found in the other cats. Of the cats with tumors located in the sc tissue, 6 of 10 (60%) evaluated on a long-term basis had local recurrence of the tumor. Eleven cats were not available for follow-up evaluation, 3 cats were euthanatized at the time of surgery, and 2 others were euthanatized within the first postoperative week subsequent to histologic diagnosis of hemangiosarcoma. Of the remaining 15 cats, 4 with abdominal hemangiosarcoma and 5 with hemangiosarcoma of the sc tissue died at means of 22 and 44 weeks, respectively. 相似文献

Osteosarcoma was diagnosed in 38 dogs. Thirty-six tumors originated from the appendicular skeleton and two from the axial skeleton. Nineteen of the dogs were treated with amputation alone, and 19 were treated with amputation and adjuvant chemotherapy consisting of doxorubicin and cisplatin. The 36 dogs with appendicular osteosarcoma had complete amputation of the affected limb, whereas the two dogs with osteosarcoma of the axial skeleton had an en bloc resection. The mean survival of the 19 dogs treated with amputation alone was 218 days (median, 175 days). Ten dogs were alive at 6 months and four survived 1 year. None of the dogs survived longer than 16 months. Radiographic lesions consistent with metastatic osteosarcoma were seen after surgery in the nine dogs in which radiographs were taken. The mean survival of the 19 dogs treated with amputation and chemotherapy was 415 days (median, 300 days). Drug toxicity was not observed. Fifteen dogs were alive at 6 months, seven dogs were alive at 1 year, 5 dogs were alive at 2 years, and two dogs were alive at 3 years or longer. One dog is alive and well at 25 months. Radiographic lesions suggestive of metastatic osteosarcoma developed in the other 18 dogs. The 19 dogs treated with amputation and chemotherapy had significantly longer survival times than the dogs treated with amputation alone. 相似文献
